- My attempt at comparing these two brands of brine shrimp eggs.
I don't claim to be an expert, just a fish nerd trying to figure out what is best for me.

I’ve never cultured brine shrimp before and my needs would be modest, so that’s what would steer me toward the Co op’s eggs. I would be very interested in your unbiased review of the Zyss hatchery. I am not handy and find DIY very daunting! I like plug and play things, but they should work! Keep up the great videos! Your channel is excellent!
Thank you for the unbiased review. We did extensive testing vs other eggs out there and our test team personally had better hatch rates vs other companies. We found we get the best hatch rate using marine salt with ours as you probably saw in the video. I'd be interested in hearing when you find out what is preventing the super successful hatch of our eggs for you, so we can advise any others that run into this problem. No doubt different setups and water can produce different results as shown in the video. In the future we are looking at a larger sized can as well, first we wanted to help those without a huge fish room with the smaller size first.
Thanks Cory, big fan of your products. I'm looking forward to seeing larger sizes. Agreed, this can is perfect for the vast majority of people and I tried to make that clear at the end of the video. I don't think my water is great for brine shrimp and would most likely benefit from marine salt instead of the cheap home depot salt. Keep up your amazing work and good luck with the move.

insane interesting comparison compared to cory's video did you notice the difference in colour of the hatched baby brine? just saying cory's looked like gold compared to Brine shrimp Direct's did, over here in Australia finding brine shrimp eggs is like finding gold and literally costs as much, the most i can get my hands on are 10g packs from Prestige Betta's for $10 aussy a pop
I have had really good eggs separation with the Co-op Eggs. So much so that I can feed right out of the hatchery just by turning the air off and sucking the brine up at the lowest point of the hatchery with a large dropper. If the hatched eggs are stuck to the side I just stir them up and wait for the BBS to settle.
Brine shrimp direct is a local company to me and offers a great line of products at fair prices.
Add the larger size sooner than later. Please.
Great test!!! Don't forget the EXTRA 5.5 ounces you get from brine shrimp direct. At 250,000 eggs per gram that's almost 39 million extra eggs.
Great video, I think you made the use-case of each product very clear. Since I have ~25 tanks, I’m definitely sold on getting the coop version instead of searching around.

Thanks for this video to do some sort of comparison. We uses small amount of baby brine shrimps and the brine shrimp direct 1 pound last way over a year. So keeping the can in the refrigerator do help keeping the eggs fresh and did not notice any degrading aspects after the can been opened for over a year ago.

I like your channel, good review. I decapsulate brine shrimp eggs all the time so my fish eat brine shrimp that hatch and those eggs that don't hatch too. Your fish room is wonderful.

Appreciated information based on your experiments. Could you do a tutorial on how you make the bottle hatchery especially with the control under the bottle to regulate air and bottle mouth connections..
I got the aquarium coop brand. It’s perfect to buy for 20 bucks and make a Hatcher our of a soda or water bottle, just to see if you would want to start doing it in a small fish room

The small size is a bonus for people with smaller fish rooms. It takes me quite a while to go through the one pound can with 10 tanks. One thing I didn't hear you mention is that the color of the Aquarium Co-op bbs was more yellow. I wonder if that means that those shrimp have less astaxanthin. Less astaxanthin might mean that the fish will be less colorful in the long run.
I’ve gotten similar results to you with my test. But I use saltwater aquarium salt and have for a long time. I had some left over from taking down my saltwater tank. I find that you’ve just gotta find the right recipe for you and your water

I have been doing my own side by side comparisons and I've had very similar results where I get much better hatch rate from Brine Shrimp Direct but Aquarium Coop has better egg separation. I'd say I am only getting 50% hatch rate from Aquarium Coop. I use pure rock salt + 1/8 teaspoon baking soda in my very soft tap water.

Do the math tho... A brine shrimp sieve for shell separation cost 9$ and the Brineshrimpdirect eggs cost 61$ after shipping on amazon. Thats 70$ for 2x the amount of brine shrimp
I just got the aquarium coop eggs for Christmas with a Ziss hatchery. I had bought the direct eggs prior to receiving the gift, and am happy to have stumbled across this video.

I freeze half, then keep the other have I'll use up in a week or 2 in the fridge

Have you tried other brands of brine shrimp eggs? I picked up some from your fish stuff when I ordered their product similar to fluval bug bites and have yet to try as I'm currently finishing up my bsd eggs I had on hand.
I did try san francisco bay brine shrimp when I first started brine shrimp. Worked for me as a beginner

I'm from mongolia we didn't use soda we use aquarium water. Aquarium water has right pH
Been using brine shrimp eggs from yourfishstuff.com with great results. I generally buy 100gm bag for around 15 bucks for 90% hatch rate eggs...it's a good size for hobbyists but not for a fish farm. I'm running 23 tanks right now with mostly guppies.

Salt also raises pH, is 7.4 your freshwater pH?
7.4 is the tap water
I was incorrect, salt does not raise pH. I was using a saltwater pool as an example but the pH is raised there not due to he salt but the sodium hydroxide produced when the salt is converted to chlorine.
I was trying to raise these shrimp. But my mother didn't know what they were so she thought it was piss water so she flushed it.
Oh no! When I first did it I raised them hidden in the fish stand
Thank you for your review. When I look at a product to use and eventually buy, I always look value. Value does not necessarily mean "cheap". I was looking forward to the Aquarium Coop brand brine shrimp eggs. Finally, I saw the brine shrimp eggs available for sale. I was hoping that a new player in the brine shrimp business would give Brine Shrimp Direct some competition. I was disappointed in the price for AC brine shrimp eggs. I find more value with BSD eggs. I will have to stay with BSD eggs. When I started in this hobby, a 1 pound can cost $8.00! Then there was a shortage and the price went up to $20-$25 for a 1 pound can. Do you know if AC brine shrimp eggs are domestic or imported eggs packed in AC label? Keep up the good work. I like the style of your videos. I do not see you, your videos focus on what the video is about. Unlike most the videos these days where the video maker is now part of the video.

the big advantage for people who shop from aquarium co-op is they can just order eggs at the same spot they get all there other items from.
Are u sure the prime brine shrimp doesn't just have more eggs mixed with the shrimp and that's making it look like it had a higher hatch rate?
I did exactly one tablespoon of each. Looking at the eggs with the naked eye, they look the same size.
@@fishboy1415 i think he means that the "hatched eggs" in the bottom are mixed with unhatched eggs.
Oh if that's what he meant, I'm sure that didn't happen. I should have included in the video the amount I harvested. Both were free of unhatched eggs
@@fishboy1415 that mirrors my results. At first I thought I was under estimating unhatched eggs in the BSD hatches but upon inspection I get almost twice as many hatches from BSD than Aquarium Coop.

I tried to save some money getting brine shrimp direct eggs since they are half the price of co op eggs and Jesus they where absolutely terrible. Hatch rates horrendous. Giant giant mistake not just getting coop eggs.
You get a lot of plastic (packaging wise) with the Co-Op eggs :/
What plastic? I just started hatching for the first time and am curious what you mean and if I can see it?
@@scottschillinger2623 Sorry, I meant the whole "smaller portion, in a can, in a bag" as opposed to just the can, or just the bag. Probably sells better though in a can.

Thank you for the review. I’ve been a fan of Aquarium Co-Op but they’re really losing me. Way too many sponsors they’ve bought off. Huge turn off right there. If they’re products are so great word will get around organically. They’re think way too much of themselves.
