Hi from the UK. New sub. Happy new year. I wonder if you have any use for de shelling your eggs. I used to do this years ago when breeding various marine fish. We had some problems with fry eating egg shells and getting a gut impaction and dying reducing our survival rates. We would soak the eggs in bleach until the shells dissolved then neutralise the bleach with sodium thiosulfate. Then hatch as normal. Voila no shells. Just inner membrane. Anyway, I thought I would share as the information may help some body. Or perhaps a subject for a video.
I am such a newbie I would never have the ability or have the need to do this yet, but I still enjoy watching. No wonder people get sucked into this hobby... there’s so much to learn and so many different cool aspects to fish keeping
@@fujoshii_x Amen, I actually got 4 glass bottles from hobby lobby. They are a 2 litter bottle essentials but the bottom allows for good flow and has no spot for stuff to settle. Plus got them 75 percent off. Gotta love those wacky sales they have.
Thank you so much for making this video! I just ordered some brine shrimp from the COOP and I was putting off hatching them. Thank you! Also, It's so good to see Jimmy and you back together! You guys (and Dean!) are my favorite to watch together!
Good timing. I just got up early so I could watch a instructional on how to use my new hatchery to start a load of brine for my first time. I THANK YOU so much Corey and the co op team. That was awesome.
Ordered the hatchery, easy brine shrimp salt and aquarium co-op premium brine shrimp eggs. It exceeded my expectations! Only took about 20 hours to hatch and the yield was fantastic! Hatched eggs floated on top and collection was a breeze, clean-up was simple and the second batch was ready to go in minutes. Aquarium co-op has never let me down, everything I buy from these guys is as advertised.
Ordered two after seeing the hatchers in earlier videos and have been waiting for this video. All the real user advice is great for people that haven't hatched bbs before.
Just for your information, Light is required for two reasons. Firstly its acts like a trigger to all the eggs to hatch and you will see the time range reduces for the hatch, ost of the eggs will hatch the same time, Secondly THE MOST IMPORTANT REASON WHY LIGHT IS REQUIRED is because the brine shrimp will synthesize protein when they are rehydrated and exposed to light, atleast inital six hrs of light exposure is required so that you can have the nauplii with a high protein content. Hope this helps Regards Aquadisc Oceans
You've been a huge help. I had to opt for a 25W aquarium heater (Ran into the issue of the plugin and temp adjuster not fitting, so I pulled a warranty no-no and cut the cord and rewired it...working like a charm so far... but again, I don't advise that unless you're an electrician or an electrical engineer). Was one of those pesky 7 internal wire cords, easily could have killed the unit. The one thing I have to dispute is that an incandescent lightbulb is a "cheap" heater, maybe in the cost of the lightbulb, but power costs and the annoyance of constant adjustments quickly overpowers any price advantage. With the exception of heating, fish keeping is a fairly low-power hobby for most. I came from raising tilapia in Wisconsin winters and it was ridiculous - I invested into ice fishing instead. Didn't add the little bit of line to my air tube, but I will when I clean the Ziss out (have to make minor adjustments to the heater cord so it stayed centered anyways), but luckily I did order some of your tubing and honestly, I love it just because you were smart enough to use quality black tubing with stretch, it's the best I have worked with so far. That said, I should see mine hatch in some odd hours - I learned goldfish have teeth in the back of their throats while researching brine shrimp... I never would have guessed, but it explains a lot.
Maybe one day I will have enough fish and be breeding some fish to justify setting up a brine shrink hatchery but as of right now this is just informational for me. Solid video.
I struggled so hard to hatch brine shrimp for my fish before I saw this video. Just got my equipment setup today. I can't wait for the first hatch to finish. Thanks for all of the help.
Been hatching out the coop eggs and fry are booming! The separation of shrimp and shell has been great to work with. Testing against other eggs to show the difference.
Already wanted the Ziss hatchery and your Brine Shrimp eggs from watching previous videos. Still can't quite justify the expense since I only have a few tanks. I'm very close though. Wanting to raise Daphnia too, so we'll see! Love the Forum references. Get me thinking they'll send more folks to drop in and see how great that is. A most amazing resource for information and kind fish folks. Really a Fish Folks Family. Thank you Cory for this video which was extremely well done, but a very Big Thanks for all you do to build Community! You are setting such a fine example. We appreciate you more than you know or would ever believe.
forgot to say, even if I didn't want/need brine shrimp eggs, I'd want that can! I guess it's the simple, little things. Def be more of a reuse than a recycle in my world.
I've started growing daphnia and I'm enjoying feeding live food to my fish. I've heard you and Dean discuss feeding baby brine so many times but it always seemed like too much unless you have a big fish room but this video definitely shows how it can be possible for smaller scale too. But you really need to get a sieve available for use for us small time hobbyists. If I only want to hatch a small amount of shrimp eggs I will still have 2 liters of water and all that salt mixed with it so separating the shrimp from the hatch brine would become very important if I only had a couple of tanks I want to put it in.
kudos to you Aquarium Co-op!! Here in the Philippines we usually have an outside setup. But were using a warm water that is bearable and mixed with salt and put them on cut 1.5plastic bottle and with the aerator. We hatched 18hrs to 24hrs depending on the brand of the BBS. Its simple and effective. Again kudos!
There's salt found in almost all naturally occurring water columns. A tablespoon of salt in 4 cups of water isn't even enough to mess up a 5 gallon aquarium. On top of that, it's beneficial for reducing fish stress and helping slime coat productivity.
I like how Jimmy cut up some footage and used "theme song" type of music for the intro! I'm sure people will find it silly, but I thought the best tip was the no drip turkey baster. I didn't know that was a thing to be honest.
A quality brine shrimp net. Yes, please. Coop tubing is hard to get on that tube even warmed up! Trying to use up my old eggs to try yours. Thanks Cory.
I throw the unhatched eggs and the leftover shrimp in a half barrel with a salt mixture with epsom salts, they grow into adults and multiply. Then I feed them spirulina powder and feed them to bigger fishes. I always advise to turn off sponge filtration while feeding brine, since they get caught in filters. I don't know if it's necessary. **I forgot to add, great video, i learned a lot, keep up the good work**
This is the most efficient and effective method for this process. Can't wait to get some ziss hatcheries instead of the normal plastic bottle I use. There really convenient and easy to work with.
When you showed that bit of airline tubing to extend the rigid airline all the way to the bottom was a "should've had a V8" moment for me. Thanks for always passing on your knowledge.
Me, has watched this 50 times, my mom goes what r u watching and next thing Ik she is buying the hatchery the eggs plants my own scoop so I’m not stealing hers😂 $120 later lots of stuff and not mad at all! Totally worth every penny spent! 😍

Excellent video. This is sharing information at it’s finest. Questions - if you don’t use the whole harvest, how do you preserve the leftovers? How long will the baby brine shrimp live? Please do a video on growing the babies to adulthood. My bigger fish are eager for me to learn. :-) I love your plants and products! Thank you Sir.
I have 2 of the Ziss hatcherys and really like them. I use a piece of air line tubing in the drain spout to extend it and make it easier to drain the LBB into the container.
Now that I have ordered the Ziss BBS Hatchery, I look forward to giving my fishies the best “live” food. It’s very difficult to get any kind of live food here in CA . Great video. For my first time trying brine shrimp, I'm setting up the old Dean method with the 1L Essentia bottle. If that goes well, I'll spend more money at the Co-Op...lol. It would be interesting to see you and Dean on video "discussing" rinsing vs not rinsing brine shrimp.
Just seeing this comment that I left 3 yrs ago. 3 yrs later, I have the Ziss hatchery, use the ACO eggs and the ACO brine shrimp salt. My hatch rate is amazing.

If you sell the lights, the pump , the ziss hatcheries, airline tube, no-drip baster and eggs... you should sell it all as a kit.
We don't sell the light or baster yet. Trust me, I'm working on it, just want to make sure the products are top quality ;)
Probably a silly question but do you ship overseas? Specifically, Australia?
Some people just want to buy it separately tho.

@@AquariumCoop so your comment is 7mo old just checking in; do you sell the kit yet
Not gonna lie, I only have two tanks and am tempted to give this a shot.
Go for it. I have one tank and grow brine and copopods, and rotifers. Live food is always better than frozen or dried hahha
It's super easy. I raise baby axolotls and they eat bbs
