- There are son many unused and cut characters that never made in into any Sonic games. So today I want to look at Sonic enemies and characters that were rejected by sega. We got some wierd ones like Sonic's long lost sister or even Madonna. Sonic Mania bosses

I can’t believe from Sonic’s inception,they wanted sonic to be with a human girl,but they couldn’t do that,so they did it on two other ocasions.

Tiara was basically Princess Sally Acorn.
Sonic got a sister named Sonia.

Because he already has Tails. Luigi is Mario's brother but his purpose is to be Mario's sidekick. Sonic's sidekick is Tails so yeah.
One of the possible characters to appear in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on the Genesis was a Turtle named Boomer, but was rejected in favor of Tails being introduced.
Imagine the jokes about the character's name nowday.

The creation of Madonna apparently had a significant impact on the creation of the Sonic franchise. It’s obvious that she was made to cash in on the success of Jessica Rabbit (a human woman in a relationship with a cartoony anthro animal), but SEGA of America didn’t see the appeal and requested that she’d be removed. This apparently upset the Japanese developers so much that they might’ve tried reviving the idea of a human female love interest with characters like Sara in the OVA and Princess Elise with Sonic ‘06.
Though interestingly enough, Madonna did actually appear in an official piece of Sonic media. In the Archie Sonic reboot continuity, she was featured as an agent of G.U.N. interrogating Dr. Snively’s past collaborations with Dr. Eggman - acting as sort of a substitute for Topaz from “Sonic X”. She was also given the surname of ‘Garnet’, which is a deep-cut nod to an early Japanese origin story for the character, wherein Sonic was the deceased spirit of a Cold War fighter pilot who fathered a girl named ‘Garnet’.
From what I heard, Madonna was scrapped because she seemed a bit too similar to Princess Peach/Toadstool and, of course, Sonic was meant to stand out from Mario.
@@SaiyanGamer95 Maybe, but it seems that the main cited reason for its rejection (along with the design of Sonic having fangs) was the whole human/animal relationship according to most sources.
I saw someone who was japaneese in a sonic forum a couple of years ago explain that in Japan Sonic being with a human isn't seen to be as weird...if you look at the Japaneese commercials for Sonic 06 you can see it focuses more on the relational aspect between Sonic and Elise whereas the USA commercials ignore it outright. (If you analyse the story/themes of 06 enough you could even argue Elise is supposed to be the main character...but of course Sonic fans can't wrap their head around such an idea it seems) They then said that Elise was supposed to help the Japaneese "relate to someone" in the story...given how anime tends to humanize any idea that isn't usually human and that Sonic was never super popular in Japan...this line of thinking makes a lot of sense...
@@Alienrun It’s definitely a case of cultural disagreement - what appeals to one demographic isn’t always going to work for another. And for many westerners, Sonic has always been the defecto character, with all the produced media giving him more of a defined, nuanced characterization. In Japan, on the other hand, that kind of independent character isn’t exactly mass-appealing to the more conformist population, so they opt for him being more of a vague paragon type of hero for another character to aspire to be like. Unfortunately, that often resulted in some of the most annoying characters being created - namely Chris Thorndyke in “Sonic X”, who has gone on to become probably the most widely despised character in the franchise.

I find it more fascinating that Eggman was actually originally supposed to be the protagonist of an earlier version of the game until they came up with Needle Mouse (later renamed Sonic the Hedgehog) and they used his original concept art to turn him into the villain.

Ah yes. I can't wait for a Hedgehog version of Sonic. Or a mad doctor version of Eggman.

The Sonic sister concept would've been cool to see in the comics or something. Coulda been a Mario Bros 2 kind of situation. Where the charcters from a ripped off game would become staples to the main series.
But because of Popful Mail fans, we never got it. I'm surprised that there were even enough fans to pressure Sega enough to cancel the game.

From a different video that explained the whole popful mail scenario...it actually got me to play the whole game out of curiosity, its pretty good for what it is...but that's not the point I wanna make...
The translation for the game is not "faithfully accurate" AT ALL like the video suggests. The voice actors clearly are not taking their roles seriously and there's lots of really forced humor added throughout the whole game...thankfully some of the jokes actually work (aka its not sonic lost world levels of bad) but when I compared it to the JP version it was clear the localization just gave no s**ts about making a trutly faithful adaptation...
Case in point, if they weren't even going to adapt it properly...I would have much rather gotten a sonicified version of the game instead! (At least then Popful Mail fans would have incentive to actually fan translate the game themselves lol)
Granted...the fact it didn't happen might have been a blessing in disguise. "Sister Sonic" no doubt would be flat out worshiped by the Sonic OC community and instead of arguing whether Sonamy or Sonallly is better...they'd have a 3rd love interest to argue about -and draw r34 of- .
Also have to wonder how Sonic fans would like the game if it was a Sonic game...since its a cross between platformer and RPG mechanics. Probably a mix of "its not sonic" and "this is refreshing" but it would be interesting...lol! :P
@@Alienruneh there are already is a 3rd, 4th, 5th, ect. Potential "love interests" shipper fans fight over actually... Mina Mongoose, Blaze the cat, Tangle, and practically any other character female or male. (Some want him to be with Shadow and such.) Many shippers are nuts, one more female character wouldn't of made a difference, or changed any of that.
Considering she might of been related to him "Sister Sonic" probably wouldn't be shipped as much. (Though, there are shippers that like incest fan ships too.)

The Metal Shadow may have been ditched because he bares a passing resemblance to Metal Scourge, and SEGA seems touchy about doing anything with those specific characters.
It's rumored that Ken Penders owns Scourge and all the Archie Sonic characters, and that's why Sega won't use them.
In reality, Ken Penders only owns the publishing rights to stories he wrote for Archie, and absolutely none of the characters. He can't even use these publishing rights as they can't be legally reprinted without getting the Sonic license, and there's no way in hell Sega's going to work with a man who's tried and failed to take them to court over Shade The Echidna. (There were multiple lawsuits, Archie settled out of court, Sega and EA just had their cases dismissed outright)
The real reason Sega doesn't want these old Archie characters to be used? They represent a take on Sonic created solely by the Western World and their approach to Sonic is "He needs to be American-inspired enough to appeal to Americans, but not TOO Western!"
Sadly Sega proves that their biggest enemy is Sega, as references to the "Western takes on Sonic" are generally met positively (Oh God, the fandom freakout that would ensue if Sonic just said "Mobius" a single time, regardless of context), meanwhile attempts to "Re-Japanify" the character result in mixed opinions at best (Sonic X) or flat-out negative (Sonic 06), and... well... the character simply doesn't do well in Japanese markets... so Re-Japanifying Sonic for lack of a better word doesn't really do anyone any favors.

Wouldn't Terios still technically just be Shadow? Like, an early version with a different name, but still effectively HIM. Being an early cut wouldn't necessarily make him an entirely different thing, especially considering he changed very little in both function and design.
Of all you mentioned the scrapping of Sonic's sister still pains me to this day. Sega could have just included her in a mainline game or just make her have her own game Sonic wise like shadow the hedgehog. I was really digging that blue Sonia so much i decided to make it her colour since it was canon for a very short time
I’m pretty certain that particular design of the character was a gender-bent fan design of Sonic that they used in this video for convenience, seeing as how there’s no existing conceptual art of “Sister Sonic”.

@@geoffreyrichards6079 ok if you say so, I just thought since they're siblings I gotta use the blue to make her look closely related to Sonic and at least for fans to guess the colours of both parents, I don't intend on giving them parents but I'd love people to make wild guesses. Manic would still retain his green colour, as the two colours in the family would be blue and green, Sonia's green was supposed to be lighter in comparison to Sonic to make them distinct from each other.

Metal Sonic was also set to appear in Xtreme, and if Tiara was a scrapped character, then what happened to Amy? Was Amy originally going to be a one-off character only in one game?
Tiara was probably gonna be kinda like Daisy, Peach is still the main love interest to Mario, but there was another one from another game, and they kept using her after that, but to do other stuff.
Tiara sounds better than Amy.

From what I recall reading, the idea of “Underground” revolving around Sonic’s siblings stemmed from a request by SEGA of America, which makes me wonder if “Sister Sonic” and that recently unveiled scrapped ‘90s cartoon starring Sonic’s cousins were all a result of that.
Though to be honest, I don’t see anything wrong with Sonia herself. She’s unique enough to stand out as her own character.

Fun fact: Sonic’s sister was cut in all of the Sonic games and was a part time character for the game so she had a chance of being part of the Sonic games but cut for a unknown reason
Metal Shadow may not exist, although he has 5 Epic Robot Counterparts in the form of 2P Shadow Androids in addition to the normal mass produced Shadow Androids in Shadow's Game. The Archie Comics created Ixis Naugus based on the background villain of that concept art for Sonic 1.

A Female character who was not a Relative or a Love interest and could match Sonic in terms of Speed & Personality would have been a decent idea for a new Rival, maybe some day Sega could come up with such a character, maybe even recycle something from old concept art, there certainly is no shortage of That.
That character already exists if you've played as Blaze the cat in the first Sonic Rush game on DS you would know that Blaze is actually supposed to be an alternative universe dimension version of sonic the hedgehog she even has a villain almost identical to eggman.
Also The fact that she doesn't get used because of 06 messing up her backstory in Rush gets me frustrated because she's just as fast as sonic or so it seems at least.
@@jam9852didn't they sort of sort out her backstory. Obviously her origin is as a Princess from the Sol Dimension where her archenemy is Dr. Eggman Nega. However, with Silver there's now two versions of Dr. Eggman Nega.
Not to mention if the Eggman Nega from the future is supposed to be Robotnik's descendant that would imply that Dr. Eggman eventually finds a way to make his AI daughter Sage a real girl.

Hmm. What if Sega or IDW Comics used Terios as like an antagonist evil clone of Sonic, similar to Scourge the Anti-Hedgehog from the Sonic Archie Comics?
Think about it: during one of their battles, Dr. Eggman gets hold of one sliver of Sonic's quills. Using that one quill and the technology that made Shadow, Dr. Eggman creates a powerful hedgehog clone that has both Sonic's speed and his own wicked intellect. And, to ensure that the clone doesn't turn against him, Eggman injects the clone with nanobots which will zap the clone's nervous system if it dares to disobey or betray him.
At first it looks like Sonic has finally met his match. But during the final battle on Eggman's flying fortress, with the combined strength of him and his friends, Sonic is able to deliver a powerful electric shock to the clone and send it falling unconscious into the ocean below. Sonic and the other celebrate, glad to have finally defeated Terios once and for all...or did they?
i think that eggman in a bee costume is supposed to be 'eggman nega(tive)', eggman's nephew, seen in the Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games franchise.

It'd be really cool and funni if vectors backstory was just one huge forth wall break and sonic had no memory of this and vector was a villain planing to betray the chaotics and when sonic confronts him after the betrayal this is how the conversation would play out:

*Flashback*
Vector (now): I was a young lad... Playing the drums getting ready to be a musician...
Vector (past): *playing the drums and singing to the beat of the drums*
Sonic (past): alright I think we're ready! Let's get this party started!
Vector (now): we were just about to leave to go to the concert... But then...
Sega (past): hey uh so about the concert..
Vector (past): yeah?
Sega (past): well uh... We've decided that we're just gonna cancel the concert...

Sega (past): it won't matter besides we still need him to have a backstory...
*End of flashback*
Vector (now): and that's how I ended up here...
Sonic (now): ohhhh so that's why I can't remember you... But hey at least we're back together...
Vector: yeah but what's the point...? Everyone else got eliminated... How are we gonna get through this?! We had so many good memories together... And now there gone... *Sobs* it should've been me that got eliminated! *Sob* why?! Why us?!
Espio: *looks at him with sympathy*
Vector: this is all my fault...
Charmy: *hic* that's... That's so sad... *Sobs while flying up to vector and giving him a hug* IM SO SORRY VECTOR!
Neo metal: ahem! Did you forget about me sonic?
Sonic: huh?
Neo metal: if you guys are done whining about the past then fight me! Or do I have to tell Sega about this so that they'll wipe his memory again like I did last time?
Vector: *realizes* wait a minute! So your the one that told them to cancel the game!
Neo metal: that's right! Right before the concert you guys were getting ready for I whent into Sega headquarters and told them that no one would be interested in a game where sonic was in a rock band so they went in and wiped his memory of you and eliminated your little friends!
Vector: you bastard!
Neo metal: mwahahahaha!
Vector: YOU'LL PAY FOR THIS!
Eggman: uh... What the actual fuck is happening?

And then the cutscene ends and all of the characters go and fight neo metal like normal and then the second phase happens and we fight metal overlord but instead of just team sonic fighting him it's them along with vector and he even goes super and then afterwards the cutscene just plays out like normally but team chaotics gives vector another chance

I would have been interested in Sonic having a relative. I guess we're sticking with Tails.
Still to this day, Sonic doesn't have a single biological family member. Within the series that detail alone isn't really all that special, most of the characters actually don't. Cream has a mother and Eggman has a late grandfather and cousin, but other than that there's not really anything. When you combine this tidbit with the fact that Sonic is capable of insane feats such as defeating literal ancient dieties and other things that should be literally impossible, still doesn't have any kind of canon backstory, and is one of the few characters to seemingly not have a home, Sonic quickly becomes one of the single most mysterious characters in his own franchise. He was still relatively unknown within his world by the time of Sonic Adventure, but was a world renowned hero by the time of Adventure 2, so it's evident that he hadn't been at it for long by the first Adventure game, as though he literally popped into existence out of nowhere in Sonic 1 or something.
There was "Segasonic Bros" that gave him three brothers, but Sega completely ignores that game.
Sonic Underground was the closest thing we can imagine of a family.
He also had an uncle named Chuck.

There was also an obscure game called "Segasonic Bros" that was a "Tetris"/"Puyo Puyo"-esque game. Instead of blocks, you had different colored Sonics: a blue one, a red one, a yellow one, and a white one. The implication seems to be that the unnamed red, yellow, and white Sonics were his brothers.

Okay well with Terios.... that's not a separate character from Shadow. That's just an earlier version of Shadow. And idk what "but he looks even more like Sonic this time" is supposed to mean. In the final design, he literally looks like Sonic's model but recolored and with Super Sonic's hair. Super Sonic also being a recolor of Sonic, it makes the most sense he just looks like Sonic in another form. But Terios' concept art, which I don't think is directly exclusive to the name Terios (as the name could still be applied to Shadow's final design and Shadow's name can still be tied to the concept design.) is still a portrayal of someone clearly bad in a style that I would never mistake him for Sonic. He either looks like a very different hedgehog or like.... a demon. lol
So his final design, to me, not only makes more sense for people to confuse for Sonic, and on top of that fans and casuals also confused the two for a while in real life, but also if they changed the design to be LESS identical to Sonic then they would clearly reflect it in the storytelling. Idk. The way it's explained in this video sounds more like what I'm used to hearing fans spread around, more like it was only something fans decided and everyone just ran with it.

Janken just means the game of rock paper scissors in Japanese. When you throw your hand down as rock, paper, or scissors you chant "janken PON!"
Famously the bosses in Alex Kidd played janken with you. Since Sonic Mania is just lousy with Sega lore deep cuts, this is probably what Egg Janken was a reference to.
