And despite being literally nothing but the embodiment of the Psychic typing in its most base form, it doesn't have enough Special Attack to be worth having the move on regardless.
The Psy weaknesses were explained to me, when I was a high schooler by a friend, as "some of the most common mental weaknesses". The typical person will usually be scared of the dark, scared of ghosts, and/or scared of bugs. Or rather - some of the most common fears since fears play into our mental strengths.
@@galarstar052 I mean, literal dark IS usually associated with evil. It's where criminals and evildoers hide and plot, it's where ghosts and monsters lie in wait, it's metaphorically the enemy of light and all that.
Actually, the reason for Psychic being weak to Dark, when you consider dark is evil type in Japan, is because the mind is prone to corruption of evil thoughts and wrongdoings. At least that's my interpretation of it.
and if you consider all the psychic weaknesses: Dark, Ghost and Bug, they're all common human fears. evil, supernatural (or fear of things you cannot explain), and just bugs (hence why terror or fear is commonly represented as a spider) with this said, Psychic should alternatively be called "mind" type instead. some moves like Instruct, Agility, Trick, and Rest all involve manipulating the mind in some way.
i always assumed it's because dark types are so evil that it's impossible for a psychic type to read their mind, and thus their dirty tactics are extra effective since they catch the normally omniscient psychic type off guard.
I think the idea behind psychic terrain is that it lets pokemon temporarily gain foresight, allowing them to evade normally faster priority moves. "nothin personell kid" style.
at least psystrike was changed from basically psyshock but for Mewtwo to a big ball of psychic, I guess since throwing balls of energy is Mewtwo's whole thing when its in the anime
In the games, too. Aura Sphere and Shadow Ball are among Mewtwo's most commonly used coverage moves and are immediately recognizable with the legend. Helps that they have perfect coverage together (Fighting and Ghost) so they're great to use in practical terms.
@@GoldStorm07 yep, even in the anime OG Mewtwo really prioritized shadow ball, and movie 16 Mewtwo (whom I consider a different Mewtwo) always used aura sphere. Mewtwo would be a good pitcher

The description of psyshock and the way it works makes me think it's like the move "tele-fury"... (or "tele-flurry" it's been a while i can't remember) from the mortal kombat 3d era games. Where kenshi would use his psychic powers to punch and kick you from afar.
I think I have an explanation for Future Sight. The user sees where the opponent will be in 2 turns and prepares an attack that will hit at this moment at this place.
I always thought of typing as the type of infinity energy a Pokémon can contain within themselves, while the quantity of energy is hp and the quality of energy as well as how the energy is used determines defenses. That's my headcanon for Pokémon defence

The target knows when, but not from where, and therefore wonders how the attack will hit. But no matter what it thinks, the hit will come unexpectedly and will only hit harder. A gap in mental defense, you could say.

Maybe Magic Powder is hypnotic suggestion, like "when this powder touches you, you henceforth are psychic type" and the opponent believes, it has the same weaknesses than the psychic type
Heal Pulse I’d assume is a very relaxing sound that is being emitted from the use of psychic abilities. Future Sight actually did happen in an anime once. It’s defined as an unavoidable attack. The text in the game “but it failed” suggested Future Sight took effect but something went wrong negating it. Though despite going over it in details, it’s surprising he didn’t catch that Celebi is also a psychic type which would be a fitting move for it.
I still love how little patience you have for the Partner Eevee moves. I don't even particularly dislike them, I just think your reactions are hilarious. I'd love to see you do a video on Synchronoise, but it's not pronounced like "Synchronize." It's sound waves, you know? It's really powerful, but it's a super weird move.
The way i see future sight is that the Pokemon foresee the opponent next actions and through this is able to plan their attack ahead, and thats why future sigth has high accuracy and is very hard to defend against.
You know the trope of someone traveling to the past to kill someone that can change the course of the future, I kind of see that but instead of traveling to the pass you are traveling to the future to attack someone. However instead of traveling to the future it’s more like being able to see into the future and since you can’t enter that since it does not exist you send a wave of energy to attack the opponent for when the time overlaps.
Ooh, another gnoggin video, can't wait, love your videos and your whole channel lockstin, learned a lot more useful information from your videos than my high school classes
So, all of the move types have pretty much been covered by now, huh? Perhaps it's time to suggest an idea for a future Pokémon series? What if Pokémon moves could be more than one type, like how Pokémon themselves could be up to 2 types? Like, for example, would Muddy Water be a Water/Ground type move if it could be more than one type?
I think "rest" as a kind of self-induced super deep sleep that has some techniques. Other moves may sleep you (hypnosis, Spore) but only rest makes you heal completely.
I always thought that Psyshock should've been, like... telekinetically hurling a solid object at the opponent, hence the physical damage. And, uh, Psystrike is just that fiery energy blast that Mewtwo does in the movie. And let Mew have something similar because it used the same blast.
Telekinetically hurling some rocks (for instance), could also be more as an explanation to the mon learning Rock Slide or a similar Rock move. Not that it could be both, depending on the specifics.
Late to the party, but if we're talking the first movie, that was actually Shadow Ball IIRC, which is actually a really good move to have on Mewtwo in Gen 2 =P
@@HellbladesFFXI It's a fairly average move in Gen II. Shadow Ball was Physical before Gen IV for... some reason, and therefore ran off Mewtwo's Attack of 110, which is good, but nothing on its Sp.Atk of 154. Mewtwo would do much better with the Elemental Punches. Also, I was referring to the attack that Mewtwo and Mew use that turns Ash to stone. They're surrounded by a fiery aura of their respective energy colours, and then it fires in a massive energy blast that explodes when they hit each other. According to the wiki this is meant to be Psychic, but Psychic doesn't look like that when any other Pokemon uses it, so I call foul. It's almost certainly the inspiration for the "Psyburn" move that appeared on a lot of Mewtwo cards in the TCG.
@@ToaArcan Hmm. I always figured that was Psybeam they were using, with the aura being an outward show of just how much power their beams had lol but different opinions is really what makes Pokemon interesting to me. I do agree it's not Psychic though, cause that has in any other bit of the anime or such, literally throwing the opponent with psychic power. And yeah, I loved that Psyburn Mewtwo lol XD Not the best Mewtwo even in it's era but still special cause I had it as a kid. Edit: I think I preferred having Shadow Ball just for having a Ghost move that actually did damage against how originally Lick was it and yeah... Ghost is my favorite type >.>;
In regards to Manaphy's Heart swap, in the Pokemon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea, Heart swap actually swaps the minds of two targets, Manaphy using it to swap Ash and the Pokemon ranger's minds, so that's probably bonus psychic type points
@@saifulmazlan4146 in some way, considering the mental manipulation powers seen with some moves, Psychic can be called "mind" type I mean it's the reason why Psychic is super effective against Fighting. Brain vs brawn, mind over matter. and also why Psychic is weak to Dark, Ghost, and Bug. (common human fears) so Rest is mind manipulation powers, albeit naturally. normal works fine, but it has the ability to override its current status condition? this is an upgrade to slack off.
The description says the user relaxes its body to lighten itself. Totally nothing psychic. But when you consider the electric signals from the brain to the muscles now move faster, then that kindof explains it. It’s neuron manipulation more than psychich power
@@TheHammerGuy94 I read it as being a "mind over matter" type deal. Like, despite the normal limitations of your body, you are doing something with your mind to go even further beyond what you're normally capable of.
Psyshock and Psystrike I assumed worked by using telekinesis to compress the air into a psychic-inclined solid that the opponent gets peppered with. Psychic moves, and the Pokemon that use them, have always been my favourite. When Fairies came out I'd wished there was a type advantage over them; trickster magic should be outright useless against Pokemon with such powerful minds, and could easily be turned against the user in the same way that is thought to be done against Poison-types.
7:42 I think I can explain this move theoretically, I like to veiw Infinity Energy as a magic version if the force, all pokemon are able to control it to some degree in certain ways based on their type, Physics maybe even more so, so possibly the Pokemon is focusing its focus on the Infinity Energy it has most of and using it to damage others, like any Pokemon would do with a move
as of typing out, i'm at the point where he talks about the move Future Sight, and i just wanted to say, Future Sight is good if you know that your pokemon will faint shortly
I have always seen future sight as by observing the future you set it in stone. There are endless futures and so one is guaranteed to be one where your opponent gets assaulted by a random bunch of physic power. So by purposely observing the future you want to occur you set it in stone and guarantee that the desired future comes about.

Me, who has a hypnosis kink: "Yeah, must be horrible..."
You just need to do a video explaining the Pokémon you haven’t talked about during the Not Type series.
Last time I was this early, the dirt of Carthage wasn't over 90 percent salt
That much? Knowing how valuable salt was, how expensive was that compared to most modern military campaigns
It took me like 8 years to realise its synchronoise not synchronise, same with bonemerang and boomerang
26:59 Get it cause echidnas have four pps and it gets rid of 3 so it’s safe from the- yeah I’m done talking about this
I still love how little patience you have for the Partner Eevee moves. I don't even particularly dislike them, I just think your reactions are hilarious.
I'd love to see you do a video on Synchronoise, but it's not pronounced like "Synchronize." It's sound waves, you know? It's really powerful, but it's a super weird move.
Ok, when they add a move that makes a target fairy type it needs to be called Fairy Dust.
Dust: makes the target ground type
@@thatguystandingbehindyou0_0 It starts out as the signature move of a dust bunny pokemon.
8:07 i kinda see it like this: the pokemon either sends an attack into the future or timed an attack that will only do damage in 2 turns
If theres anything to take away from this video, Psychic type should really be Cosmic type
Flying Press
I think "rest" as a kind of self-induced super deep sleep that has some techniques. Other moves may sleep you (hypnosis, Spore) but only rest makes you heal completely.
"You can distract a dragon with a spoon"
Have you not seen Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid?
I feel like the justification for a lot of the "not psychic type" moves are that they fall into the "behave intelligently" category
We've completed the Cycle!
Now onto the Abilities!
Sounds like Gnoggin has gotten into D&D and/or is foreshadowing possible videos about it, which I for one could 100% get behind~
@@ToaArcan Hmm. I always figured that was Psybeam they were using, with the aura being an outward show of just how much power their beams had lol but different opinions is really what makes Pokemon interesting to me.
I do agree it's not Psychic though, cause that has in any other bit of the anime or such, literally throwing the opponent with psychic power. And yeah, I loved that Psyburn Mewtwo lol XD Not the best Mewtwo even in it's era but still special cause I had it as a kid.
Edit: I think I preferred having Shadow Ball just for having a Ghost move that actually did damage against how originally Lick was it and yeah... Ghost is my favorite type >.>;
You increase my intellect knowledge in every video you make Lockstin irl when watching and listening. I'm thankful for that.
“Even the echidnas aren’t safe!” I got that reference!
In regards to Manaphy's Heart swap, in the Pokemon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea, Heart swap actually swaps the minds of two targets, Manaphy using it to swap Ash and the Pokemon ranger's minds, so that's probably bonus psychic type points
35:27 Ah yes my favorite psychic ability, sleeping.
It being Normal type would make so much sense.
Well when your sleep your mind is calmed right,so it makes sense that it is psychic type. Its like Calm Mind, but in sleeping mode
@@saifulmazlan4146 in some way, considering the mental manipulation powers seen with some moves, Psychic can be called "mind" type
I mean it's the reason why Psychic is super effective against Fighting. Brain vs brawn, mind over matter.
and also why Psychic is weak to Dark, Ghost, and Bug. (common human fears)
so Rest is mind manipulation powers, albeit naturally.
normal works fine, but it has the ability to override its current status condition? this is an upgrade to slack off.
Really love how you described Expanding Force by having it be used on a Pokemon that is even affected by psychic type moves.
I was today years old when I found out Agility was psychic-type. I always thought it was normal-type, lol
I think for me. Is SPACE became a type, I would put all the "room" moves as space type as well.
Space and spacial awareness being similar
The light that burns the sky changing between physical and special atk might be refrencing that light is both a wave and a particle
7:35 when you repeat yourself for the 3rd time
Psyshock and Psystrike I assumed worked by using telekinesis to compress the air into a psychic-inclined solid that the opponent gets peppered with.
7:35 I already heared this 20 times now xDD
XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
as of typing out, i'm at the point where he talks about the move Future Sight,
and i just wanted to say, Future Sight is good if you know that your pokemon will faint shortly
I have always seen future sight as by observing the future you set it in stone. There are endless futures and so one is guaranteed to be one where your opponent gets assaulted by a random bunch of physic power. So by purposely observing the future you want to occur you set it in stone and guarantee that the desired future comes about.
