Do you usually open your firewall function eg on my ASUS router while using ps portable 5g tethering
I dont have start and end point on my Router. Just External and Internal spaces. Do i just put 987, 8572, 9295-9308 on both external and internal spaces? Never did port forwarding before.
Thank you I am a firefighter/paramedic who is very much a closet nerd and like to game at the station, I bought the PS portal thinking it would fix all my problems and I had a pretty strong mobile hotspot wifi. it was pretty much a paperweight till I watched this video!
Glad to hear it helped
This worked for me. Now I can finally use my portal without cursing it for the bad image. Thank you!
Glad I could help!
Finally a video that actually works for me. I finally can play my PS5 Remotely with other WiFi.
Thank you.
Glad to hear it helped
With your tutorial, I was able to connect away from home with my phone mobile hotspot with my ps portal. Keep up the good job and thanks a lot.
Glad it helped
Superb fix! Thank you! Was extremely simple on Xfinity, there’s port forward option in advanced settings. Took me 1 minute and immediately seeing no drops and less lag.
Glad it helped!
I have Xfinity too man and the performance is awful even with 700 down and like 80 up speeds
I’m wondering if this port forwarding will help

Hey would love to know what you did! I just got my portal and setting it up.
@@AloushMana wired connection and disconnecting the hdmi when using the portal seems to have helped me tremendously. I still get some stutters though. It’s not perfect. But good enough
Thanks 🎉Worked perfectly and noticing way better performance. Your video was easy to follow
Glad it helped
@@GearsAndTech the hardest part was drilling the hole through my door frame to run the lan cable !! that was the real pain in the ass 😡
Seriously i mean Se3riously thank you so so so much you dont know how much i suffered going through countless yt videos for my issues until i saw you thank uyou so much
Glad to help
Thank you for this sir! Worked for me on my Verizon 5g wifi network to allow me to remote in & play on my portal away from home through my phone hotspot and my girlfriends wifi!
Thanks for the video! I'm going to give this a try. I'm having issues where my wife and I share the portal, but have separate PSN accounts. The only way I can connect to my PS5 with Portal is by setting the PS5 to WiFi first, then going back, changing the PS5 to LAN then I can use it. When I switch PSN accounts, I've got to do the same thing all over again, by changing to Wifi, then back to LAN. I'm hoping this will fix my issue, but if you think it is something else I need to change, I'm all ears! Thanks again!
Let me know if it works
Only other thing you should try is make sure you don't have a controller plugged into the USB for the ps5. I keep getting a weird glitch where it freezes if a controller is plugged in
I had serious lag issues so I hard wired my PS5 to my router and it fixed everything instantly. Now I have zero issues and a handheld PS5 that’s amazing.
Yes, going wired helps a lot.
Mine is wired as well, but I also got a new router and it's buttery smooth at home
A good switch and cable runs is the best thing you can do for your network
Do you really get stable and smooth 60fps without any twitching?
@@hbwdino not sure what the fps is but it’s smooth as silk. Wiring worked 100%
Can confirm this. Had really good speeds and a newer router and I was still getting lag and stutter. Hardwired the PS5 and I haven't had any lag or disconnecting issues since !
This is completely tooo much just to use an app that’s designed to play away from home like wtf
It's pretty good though
I've only got 60 and it works perfectly on my WiFi 👍
Glad to hear
10:33 I’m confused do we have to do this bit or can we just stay with the ps5 way?
The moment I made the PS5 have a static IP, it gets blocked and I'm no longer able to connect to the internet 😢
At this stage, I'm starting to wonder if I'll ever be able to get this thing (Portal) usable outside of my home.
That sucks. I'm not sure how to help you beyond what I show here
I haven’t seen this problem listed anywhere yet.. but when I connect my portal to home Wi-Fi (5g and the same network my ps5 is hard wired to) everything works fine. But when I’m away and try off my iPhone 13 hotspot which is also 5g.. it’ll connect to the ps5 for about 10 seconds with awful screen tearing, then disconnect. It’ll keep connecting and disconnecting till I cancel it. Would these port forwarding or static ip tips help this issue?
I think it will help.
Thats a weird problem for sure
Been using my portal on my 5G lucky enough to live in an area where my average low speed is around 250mbps. Also have an S24 ultra so can do the wifi Tethering again had little to no issues with it that way and home network is gigabit PS5 is wired and its buttery smooth.
Glad to hear
I did everything in the video but still get the error message 8801330d whenever I try to connect via mobile data. Works fine if Im connected to my home network or even another WiFi network at a friends house. I can not figure out what the matter is. Can anyone help me out?
Well you left internal port field blank, i cant do that. I have to fill something to that field otherwise i cant apply changes. So i tried to fill same ports in, but then something is wrong because my portal wont connect to ps5. Pls help.
5ghz is good… if you don’r have walls… prefer to switch on 2.4ghz for complicated architecture. Even if the max of this frequency is around 100mb/s. At the end of the day you only need 15 to 20mb/s to make it works perfectly. So it depends of your geo situation at home ;)
Yes for sure
Hello, I have a problem with ps portal, I can't use it on two different connections only through the same network how can i fix that thx.
You need to open the ports for ps5 to get out. Your firewall is a problem
What kind of port sir,can you explain?..plss
@@anizaaziesalwanazainal1558 try this with dmz its on 15:00 minute it works for me
Thank you! It finally works!
You're welcome!
Hello my os portal only connects when the portal and Ps5 are on the SAME WiFi. I want to use my portal on a different WiFi mostly my hotspot. It connects to my hotspot and I the ps5 does turn on but can never connect. Do you feel like this is a router block? A port forward solution?
how do i make it where i can use my PS remote w/ my iphone 15 when I am not home? it only works when I am on the same network
Make sure you have the ports forwarded correctly on your router
Thanks so much for making this. This should definitely improve performance. I just hope you changed your network settings after filming. You just told us your WAP SSID, and all your IPs
As a matter of fact I did.
Hey I came across your video while trying to look up tips for the portal. I watched your whole video but I'm a little confused about something with my Verizon router. On my router I don't have internal or external ports. On mine it shows source ports and destination ports. I'm not sure about what goes where in my case. Please help
Unfortunately I can't help
Thanks for this. I’m not getting an Android phone though lol. Apple. I’ll use my hot spot in my phone.
That works
I hope you'll answer 🤞 My boyfriend can't connect with his portal to his PlayStation when he's in my place... which IP I should insert on the port forwarding? The portal's one or the PS one's?
The portals one
@@GearsAndTech Thank you! And he should do the port forwarding on his router, as the PS is in his home, right?
Would you use your pixel over a travel WiFi ? I was going to buy a travel WiFi, but have pixel 8 pro.
I'll mostly use this for hotels/international travel.
after having used it a bit, I think I have some other ideas for this that Ill outline in some new videos.
But for your specific question, Using the pixel 8 as a hotspot would work just as good
My portal can connect to the PS5 via 5G, but not through my home Wi-Fi (1Gbps) connection.
I have already forwarded ports on my office router.
That's a weird issue
How to hotspot from iPhone? Just to be clear, you stated it can’t be done from iPhone?
I think it can be done on iPhone. Just share your cell connection
Only trouble having in port forwarding is when I'm entering the number for 987 and internal automatic fills it in... when I uncheck do I want the same as external for internal and click apply won't let me apply unless I check to keep the same external for internal...
Yes
@@GearsAndTech yes what?
Can you help me figure out. Why is my ps portal cant detect my 5g network?. It can only detect my 2.4ghz network the same router wifi6 please help thank you.
Turn off your password and make sure it's not hidden
I need help connecting my internet on my portal I keep getting network additional validation step that uses a web browser on my screen 😢
If your wifi uses a web browser for validation it'll never work.
Thank you, this was exactly what I need to get it working!
Glad I could help!
I've purchased a TP-Link Archer AX55 and I have an ONT box on my internal wall as I have fibre to the property. To use my existing fibre package, I had to connect my AX55 using the PPPOE username and password from my ISP.
I noticed in IP settings for my wired LAN connection on PS5, there is a PPPOE option. Do I need to use this rather than Manual as my router is plugged into the ONT and using PPPOE to connect to my internet? Or is manual fine to use?
Excellent question. I have almost the exact same setup but didn't need to do any of the extra setup you're talking about
I just connected my router to the fiber hub and it all worked.
I ditched the extra router that came with the fiber service at that same time
Great video 🫡💯
Thanks for the visit
When I set the external port to 987, if I leave the internal port section blank, it won't let me save. What can I do?
Sent it to the same number on both
My primary DNS shows different then my default gateway. Is that an issue or would you still put the the different numbers into each or would you make them match
That's weird, but not uncommon if you're using a vpn of some sort.
You need to enter it the same as what your system showed when it auto detected your settings.
can someone help me, my portal works from my work wifi on my pc but it doesnt on my portal. it works fine when the ps5 and portal are on the same network at home but i wanna play it on my break at work and it doesn't work please help me
There is likely a acknowledgment that you need to sign to connect to wifi at work. It worked on your pc because It has a web browser.
I had to change my DNS to 8.8.8.8 which is Google's DNS and I got better speeds and no hiccups just saying
I get the message
Error port 8572 has already been used
Same with port end 9308, same error, already used
That's weird.
I still can see a delay even when you're connected via your best Wifi 5GHz home network. When you move the camera there is slight delay to response. For that delay I was talking about in reddit so many times. Somebody sees it - others dont... I think thats normal for the Portal, but playing Gran Turismo 7 is unplayable with this slight delay...
I for sure would not try to use this for anything that requires micro reactions where every ms counts
Fps are totally out
Gt7 would be tolerable, but if you're trying to play competitive it's not going to be good
This is aimed at casual gamers.
You probbaly wouldn't be using any remote play system for serious games
Do you have wifi extender? If yes, you will need to forget the wifi and reconnect it again depending where you are in your house
I got mine Portal last week and i feel what you say, I got the same Problem I have a very fast and stable connection but even at 5ghz there is still a delay. Thats why I send it back
You have to use static ip + put this ip on DMZ inside the router
Hello, my son just moved back into his college dorm and he can't get his portal to pair with his PS5 and a see a meltdown coming on 😂. Please help. Thanks
See if he can get on remote play from a laptop or cell phone on the dorm wifi
If that works then he can troubleshoot the portal connection.
@@GearsAndTech same issue here, how do i troubleshoot the portal connection???
I have a net gear Mobile hotspot serviced by AT&T. When I connect my portal to the hotspot , the portal doesn’t connect to the ps5 When I am away from home Will port forwarding make it to where the portal can access my ps5 on a network away from home?
Worth a shot

That's fine. Make the start and end the same for the first two
Then do a start and end as shown in the last one
I have opened all ports both of my routers, when i try to connect the ps5 turns blue and white without a beep but actually nothing happens :(

Does this prevent the constant disconnects?
Yes

Check the ps5 settings. Make sure it works locally first
I still have Problems it say your Internet is not fast enough but it its I Tested it, it was pretty fast or it shows the message couldn’t find linked ps5
Did you do all the port forwarding?
It seems like the portal itself is the problem. What happens when you try to use it closer to your wifi

Hey, so i have set up wired LAN cable from router to ps5, i have 200 mbit/s download and 50 mbit/s upload and i still have very laggy gameplay almost unplayable, i dont know where the problem is, can someone help? Thanks
Connect portal to 5g wifi, then go stand beside router and see if problem goes away
@@GearsAndTech i have 5ghz optic internet, i try it in same room as router and still has some lagging, it looks like frame drops
I give up I couldn’t get it to connect 😢😅 I should’ve gotten a steam deck
You're probbaly right. I'm looking at a steam deck instead as well.
Is it always the same ports we need to forward?
Yes
This is so frustrating, I know networks, streaming on my PC to my steamdeck works perfectly with 50k bandwidth. Why is only PS5 with Portal giving me this issue T__T I'm broken.
Edit: After driving myself crazy to make 5Ghz work, in a desperate attempt I disconnected the ethernet and without static IP and anything on Wi-Fi 5Ghz of my modem i connected the PS5 there... and somehow its crystal clear and "no latency". Everything I know about networks is a lie
That's crazy. Great you got it sorted, but yes, it turns out these routers are smarter than we are
The IP address of the playstation is the same as the of the router ?
No, watch the video again and follow along. The Playstation is a different ip than the router.
@@GearsAndTech do I use the IP address you’re showing or the one that my Playstation shows this is very confusing you’re not making that clear
Im wired but still lags
Check you port settings on router
Im at a hotel and i cant get it to go
That sucks
So this 100% does NOT work.
So now what, send it back?
I giess
All other sites list different ports to you
Where you seen ports for the portal?
Ports to forward are listed in the description
I don't want mine... hadn't had it a week
I just sold mine too. Video about my reasons why is coming out Friday
Man did everyone else pay for portforward?
Pay for port forwarding? I wouldn't do that
All this just to connect to my WiFi 😂😂
Right
@@GearsAndTech so if this don’t work that means I can’t connect to my WiFi
Easy way please
Easiest way is to connect your ps5 to wired ethernet. That will fix a lot of your problems
Mine is 97 mbps sad your is 600 mbps
I have really good internet
@@GearsAndTech I got attnt shit garbage!! No optic available
Too difficult
Unfortunately I can't make it any easier
Not worth the damn headache
It can be a pain
Waste of time
A lot of people like the portal. But video games in general are usually considered a waste of time
This video literally makes no sense whatsoever. If you have a wired cable, you don’t need to mess around with port forwarding it’s the wireless connection that causes the issue. If I could have my router plugged into my PlayStation via an ethernet cable I wouldn’t need to bother with port forwarding the whole point of this should be for people who cannot lan into the console
This video is for lan or wireless connection.
@@GearsAndTech but you did say in the video it needs to be specifically said you are not going to show the set up for wireless ?
What if do have LAN and still laggy on portal??? I can’t even connect to my iPhone 14 Pro Max hotspot but no issues on a 13
Yeah right man what a stupid waste time video and makes no sense

Do i have to port forward?
i have a hyperlink router, and i can't find the forward porting tutorial for it. No one is showing that specific router admin menu and it looks very different from the rest from my newbie point of view towards porting? Can anyone help?
Just came across this video, ive switched ISP's and new provider doesnt have static IP address' so hoping this will work as im constantly getting error 8801330d on remote play over mobile. Will give it a go over the weekend
For sure let us know how it goes
so im entering the external port numbers but it wont let me save because its asking for the internal port as well. what do i put here?
thank you very much. i do not have any input lag or bad quality. i think i have microlags, the fps are droping. my upload on the playstation is only 5mbs max, but on my pc it is 45mbs. i think thats the problem for me. any tips?
Wired connection to ps5 if possible
The microlags are because of the 60Hz refresh rate of the screen and PS5 output at 59.94Hz.
Hopefully Sony patches or fixes it
Has anyone been 500 miles away from home and been able to play there ps portal ?
This didn't work for me. My actual problem is that I can't connect my Portal using a iPhone carrier. I have the same ASUS router. Did the static IP instructions - PS5 and Portal worked on home LAN. Did the ASUS port forwarding instructions. Portal wouldn't wake up the PS5 from rest mode on home LAN. Only when reverting all changes on PS5 and ASUS router - and restarting everything - did things start working on home LAN. But I've still got the problem that I can't use the portal on my iPhone carrier.
Try with nothing plugged into usb port on Ps5. I have my controller plugged in and charging and it caused issues
@@GearsAndTech Actually the problem was my ISP. It was giving me a Dynamic IP that was refreshing every 2 hours. Once I asked my ISP to allocate me a Static IP - then everything worked. :)
Wussup G&T, I have a Galaxy s23 ultra so I'm able to wifi share over hotspot, my problem is..idk whether my hotspot is NAT 3 or my job internet is NAT 3. I am having no success in troubleshooting this. Is there anything I can do about this?
Try sharing your home WiFi and connecting the portal to that.
If that works then it's something with your work WiFi.
Why not just make your phone a 5g hotspot.
I hope you can help me. My portal is working great except I cannot figure out how to use my 5G phone hotspot, and theportal to connect to my ps5. I work in an area that I have great 5G cell service but no public wifi. Any help would be appreciated.Thank you.
Try sharing your 5g without a password and see if that helps.
What would be my options if I had 2x PS5s and 2x Portals? It seems I can not forward the same port to 2 IPs. I tried to open ports for 1 of the PS5s and then DMZ the IP from the 2nd PS5, but still the DMZ one doesnt connect to my portal at all.
Great question
Secound router just for ps5. Open ports to that router ip and DMZ everything on it?
Scene this happen me as result them being outdated or game had update or if not on same wi-fi network it happened me as result but that about it why hope psvita 2 which supposed replace portal true so these things wouldn’t be major problem anymore.
Yes. Psvita 2 will be cool
What if my PS5 is in the garage using its own router via ethernet but use a mesh system connected to the provider modem in the house where I play with the portal?
Should be good
wanna ask, port forwarding for ps remote play its need public ip addres? or private ip addres can tho?
Either is fine
Travel router is best when using public wifi spots. Connects to terms of service and bypasses that. I have the slate ax and it’s been great. Using it overseas and everywhere. Completely
Magic.
Thanks for the info!
Tried everything, still not able to connect my ps5 running 5ghz band with static ip and port forwarding enabled for all the port. Tried dmz method too. Router model ZTE670V9.0. But it connects just fine on being same wifi network. Mobile internet it will just refuse.
Try using the remote play app on your phone. Does it connect ok?
That will help you decide if it's the router or ps5 issue
@@GearsAndTech firstly! Thanks alot for replying. And the issue I narrated is happening on my s23 remote play app itself. While connected to home network wifi remote play works but if I try to use mobile intert on s23 and wifi on ps5 it won't connect. I have a Huawei router provided by the ISP its WiFi 6 enabled, it does have an option to mess with the ports but it looks different to yours. Im so confused how to use make it work. Ive done the first bit with the PS5 but im struggling from here on 😢

Yes
Absolute waste of time for wired connection……click bait for views
If you're not experiencing problems then this won't make much difference
But I wouldn't call it a waste of time
Can you do this with a Verizon router?
Yes. May not help due to speed limitations on it.
it doesn't work for me bro. I have Keenetic router, I guess my port forwarding is wrong. Could you help me please?
Try hard wiring ps5. That should work

Do you think you can do this for a spectrum router?
Probably
@@GearsAndTech I honestly hope you do. Since half the USA population uses it 😁

Glad to hear
Yes get the best connection at your home side for best chance

I did all of this, but I am still unable to connect to it from outside my home network. Can you please advise me on what I could have missed out on? The portal turns on the PS5 but throws an error message "can't connect to your PS5".
If you have a controller plugged into your ps5 unplug it then try again
@@GearsAndTech I have no controllers plugged in and it still doesn't work. 🥺
I believe I may have identified the issue. My PS5 console was receiving NAT type 3 because my ISP assigned me a private IP address. According to my research, port forwarding doesn't function properly with private IPs. Consequently, I've reached out to my ISP to request a public static IP address. I'm hopeful that this will resolve my problem.
