my problem with these remasters is that they’re PS4 games that are very accessible and run at 60 fps on PS5, I wish Sony remastered first party games stuck on the PS3

They don’t need to remaster Bloodborne. All they need to do is make it 60fps. Doubt a remaster is needed to make that happen. God of War 2018 came out at 30fps, then when the ps4 pro released they sent out an update which bumped fps to 60, and upscaled the resolution.

Ryan’s the first person I’ve heard mention the blindingly obvious fact that the PS5 faceplates are removable and thus, a whole new console is pointless. The lack of unique (and easily available) faceplates is a HUGE disappointment from Sony. But not surprising. As a 1st Gen PS5 owner, I’m not even a customer to them anymore.

The lmited pro is definitely more catered to the hardcore collectors. It would be nice if Sony did introduce plates for the OG console. Can't hold my breath though.
My thoughts too. Remasters make sense for the reasons Ryan says and in this instance a good way to get new staff up to speed. My hope would be that if the remaster did well it might finally convince Sony to greenlight a sequel, as long as they take into account the sales on a remaster will be impacted to a degree by those people that already played it on the PS4 (many of those that did so via it's inclusion in psplus essentials)

If you want standalone covers, just get the Sterling Silver ones. I just bought those a month ago, and they look very similar to the gray ones. You can also buy stickers with the colored logo. To be fair, Sony _did_ change the color of the console chassis from black to dark gray, so that technically justifies releasing a special edition console instead of just the plates.
The issue with Square is that they expect every single release of theirs to sell like 10m+ units in the first week, have perfect review scores, and generate a ton of mechandise sales. If a game is anything less than a decade defining title, then it always "does not meet expectations". It's so frustrating to listen to in the briefings. They need to fire whoever comes up with these ridiculous sales projections for their videogame department, because the dude is living in a fantasy land and he has terrible cost-value analysis skills.
Gaming industry is falling more in line with what we have come to see from the film industry. Obviously projects are expensive and take time. Its why you see remakes, remasters, or sequels. Nobody wants to make anything without a popular IP and take a risk on something new due to the cost. Also games today dont bring anything new to the table. Almost every open world game feels the same or looks the same due to the engine its on. There is no creativity anymore.
The cost is a lie. A big reason for the cost isn't the actual development itself but their horrible internal procedures that create cost. Back in the days a few blocks sat and made a game and registered a company name. People think is just because they didn't have to do as detail graphics but is not that. Is because there wasn't any waste of time. Because they just went there and sat and started working and talked about what they were making while working etc. Now you have to call special meetings upon meetings, talk to HR departments, and inclusivity advisors and even more meetings about internal procedures and go threw 5 managers etc etc. No one is actually just making the game. This companies became their own worst enemy.
Equality and Diversity ; Tlthey got the Chokehold. Games are Stale as **** because developers got walk fine line...just thinking💡 may be offensive.... minority groups, lbqufipa groups, ESG, activists, Blackrock.
You know, early this year there was rumor of a Gravity Rush 2 PS5 Remaster (as well as PC). The game is eight years old this month, and that game warrants a current gen remaster far more than Horizon Zero Dawn or Days Gone in my opinion, especially with a GR movie apparently coming too, which I definitely want to go see. I loved Gravity Rush 2 back in the day, it was one of the first PS4 games i ever played. I might get the Days Gone PS5 Remaster regardless. I really liked Days Gone, even if it's not my favorite game of all time, and want to support that IP, alongside Assassin's Creed Syndicate.
I'm depressed from PlayStation's latest announcements. No disc drive 💔 feels like they dont care about the fans at all. No plates for people who already own a PS5 and a true 30th anniversary console should have a disc drive with full backwards compatibility.

I've had a playstation premium since it came out, but for the first time, I have downgraded to Essential. I realized that Sony has been letting me down with their first party games recently, and Sony no longer deserves all that money from me. Astrobot is the first good playstation studio game in a while for me.

Very good point about Final Fantasy. I never really thought that unfamiliar gamers are going to assume that it’s one continuing story. That explains a lot. I did have a chat with someone about this who thought that the 16th entry was the 16th chapter of the same story and he thought that Sephiroth was the big bad of the whole franchise! Kinda like Marvel. You also have conversations about X-2 and you get “isn’t that the same as XI?” 🤦♂️ You got yourself a subscriber sir.
Facts. It’s one of the best looking PS4 games that only received a patch for PS5 but you could easily be fooled into thinking it’s a native PS5 app. I actually like that’s it’s still a PS4 game as I get to use my Dualsense 4. I’m not a huge fan of using the DS5 on PS4 games as the vibration feels more like a buzz than a pulse, if that makes sense.
Final Fantasy WAS the biggest JRPG franchise in the world until 12 and 13 were mid, and Miyazaki changed the industry with Dark Souls. The western market wants Lies of P and Black Myth Wukong much more than FF16.
Fromsoft are arguably the new RPG kings now. Final Fantasy I would have to imagine doesn't have the same power with younger gamers as it does with old heads. Honestly, if we want to talk about more classic style JRPGs, I'm more excited about Persona, Metaphor, and Clair Obscur.
13 was too anime. 15 was unfinished. 16 has the bones to make the 17 even better. Let players explore more, with meaning. Give players more attributes to control. (a few more stats/ gear that has purpose) Storytelling talent, don’t change a damn thing. In other words, make more of a game and less of a video.
Lies of P and Black wukong, is not as big as FF even in the west XD. Also I just finished black wukong and I'm playing FF16. Holy shit the game is good. One of my favorite action rpgs, it honestly blows lies of p and black wukong away.

Hope not. From what I heard at the dev team they hated working on the game due to the director (I think was his title) being an ass during all of production. The devs were the ones that asked Sony if they could do something else instead of a sequel and Sony said yes.

Will be interesting if PS6 availables in pure base console, equal-power handheld, AND combination of both. So the handheld is not separate system that does different thing. In fact, they're the same console. Thus, if you combine the PS6 base with the PS6 handheld, you'll have double PS6s thus exponentially increase performance.
Honestly calling anyone from Firewalk "talented" is an overstatement of the decade. If those "talentless freaks" (words of one of the character designer for concord) had any talent they would have not created such overwhelmingly ugly characters that no one (besides shills from kotaku and ign) wanted to play.
Paper clip is probably for ejecting the disc drive if a disc gets stuck or if no power but you need the disc out for some reason. This will extend drive life sometimes because the drive works but the door won't open.
I think PSSR was a great investment for Sony. The PS5 pro is set up more like an Nvidia according to digital foundry, and having the whole industry collectively working with PSSR on fixed hardware, we should see it evolve greatly over time
I do think Sony does have many first-party titles cooking. IMO, I would prefer them to release more info on these games when they are ready. Rather than a roadmap with no dates.
It's not just that it's just been remasters, it's that it's remasters of games that came out in the last decade that could run natively on the PS5 via BC. Last gen, we were getting high quality remasters of older titles like Crash, Spyro, THPS, and Shadow of the Colossus to name the best ones. What happened?

I was thinking the same. This is reminiscent to the PS3 days. The price was very high, they didn't release any major titles during the first half of the generation and people were complaining. The difference is that XBOX was doing great back then so they had to keep up and release amazing games that's how they stepped up and the second half of the PS3 life was amazing, but now XBOX is doing pretty bad, they have even less games than Sony and it's not a competition anymore. Let's just hope that they have games on their bag and are just waiting to announce them in the rest of the year, if not then we will most likely not have great games and they'd save that for the PS6. Which is crazy to think but it might be released in just a few more years.
I just started playing Final Fantasy 15 again on my PS5, man do I wish Square would release an updated PS5 version of that game. Its a beautiful game to begin with, i'm amazed it even runs on a PS4, but if it takes full advantage of the PS5, that game would look AMAZING.
I would like to see both Wipeout and Jet Moto remade with compatibility in PSVR2. Using the haptics and grips in the sense controllers to grip handle bars in Jet Moto would be wild.

I don't buy remasters if I already own the game. My backlog is too big to replay games I've already beat just because its "prettier". If I don't already own it, I'll pick it up. Like Gravity Rush Remastered I picked up. I didn't have a Vita and I'd never played it before. It was a fun game.

If you want standalone covers, just get the Sterling Silver ones. I just bought those a month ago, and they look very similar to the gray ones. You can also buy stickers with the colored logo.
To be fair, Sony _did_ change the color of the console chassis from black to dark gray, so that technically justifies releasing a special edition console instead of just the plates.

The issue with Square is that they expect every single release of theirs to sell like 10m+ units in the first week, have perfect review scores, and generate a ton of mechandise sales. If a game is anything less than a decade defining title, then it always "does not meet expectations".
It's so frustrating to listen to in the briefings. They need to fire whoever comes up with these ridiculous sales projections for their videogame department, because the dude is living in a fantasy land and he has terrible cost-value analysis skills.
Gaming industry is falling more in line with what we have come to see from the film industry. Obviously projects are expensive and take time. Its why you see remakes, remasters, or sequels. Nobody wants to make anything without a popular IP and take a risk on something new due to the cost. Also games today dont bring anything new to the table. Almost every open world game feels the same or looks the same due to the engine its on. There is no creativity anymore.
The cost is a lie. A big reason for the cost isn't the actual development itself but their horrible internal procedures that create cost.
Back in the days a few blocks sat and made a game and registered a company name.
People think is just because they didn't have to do as detail graphics but is not that.
Is because there wasn't any waste of time. Because they just went there and sat and started working and talked about what they were making while working etc.
Now you have to call special meetings upon meetings, talk to HR departments, and inclusivity advisors and even more meetings about internal procedures and go threw 5 managers etc etc.
No one is actually just making the game.
This companies became their own worst enemy.

You know, early this year there was rumor of a Gravity Rush 2 PS5 Remaster (as well as PC). The game is eight years old this month, and that game warrants a current gen remaster far more than Horizon Zero Dawn or Days Gone in my opinion, especially with a GR movie apparently coming too, which I definitely want to go see. I loved Gravity Rush 2 back in the day, it was one of the first PS4 games i ever played.
I might get the Days Gone PS5 Remaster regardless. I really liked Days Gone, even if it's not my favorite game of all time, and want to support that IP, alongside Assassin's Creed Syndicate.

I've had a playstation premium since it came out, but for the first time, I have downgraded to Essential. I realized that Sony has been letting me down with their first party games recently, and Sony no longer deserves all that money from me. Astrobot is the first good playstation studio game in a while for me.

Very good point about Final Fantasy. I never really thought that unfamiliar gamers are going to assume that it’s one continuing story. That explains a lot. I did have a chat with someone about this who thought that the 16th entry was the 16th chapter of the same story and he thought that Sephiroth was the big bad of the whole franchise! Kinda like Marvel. You also have conversations about X-2 and you get “isn’t that the same as XI?” 🤦♂️ You got yourself a subscriber sir.

Facts. It’s one of the best looking PS4 games that only received a patch for PS5 but you could easily be fooled into thinking it’s a native PS5 app.
I actually like that’s it’s still a PS4 game as I get to use my Dualsense 4. I’m not a huge fan of using the DS5 on PS4 games as the vibration feels more like a buzz than a pulse, if that makes sense.
We need more smaller budget games like Astro Bot.

Final Fantasy WAS the biggest JRPG franchise in the world until 12 and 13 were mid, and Miyazaki changed the industry with Dark Souls. The western market wants Lies of P and Black Myth Wukong much more than FF16.
I’d like to think that it was 13 and 15 that made players leave. 12 was actually decent.
Fromsoft are arguably the new RPG kings now. Final Fantasy I would have to imagine doesn't have the same power with younger gamers as it does with old heads. Honestly, if we want to talk about more classic style JRPGs, I'm more excited about Persona, Metaphor, and Clair Obscur.
13 was too anime. 15 was unfinished. 16 has the bones to make the 17 even better.
Let players explore more, with meaning. Give players more attributes to control. (a few more stats/ gear that has purpose) Storytelling talent, don’t change a damn thing.

Hope not. From what I heard at the dev team they hated working on the game due to the director (I think was his title) being an ass during all of production. The devs were the ones that asked Sony if they could do something else instead of a sequel and Sony said yes.

Sony should have shown the PS 1 themed disc drive. Nothing says PlayStation 1 more than a way to play discs.

So the handheld is not separate system that does different thing. In fact, they're the same console. Thus, if you combine the PS6 base with the PS6 handheld, you'll have double PS6s thus exponentially increase performance.

You know it's super easy to spray paint PS5 faceplates. Just buy the 30th Anniversary controller, and you have a 1/1 limited edition PS5. 😉
Paper clip is probably for ejecting the disc drive if a disc gets stuck or if no power but you need the disc out for some reason. This will extend drive life sometimes because the drive works but the door won't open.

I think PSSR was a great investment for Sony. The PS5 pro is set up more like an Nvidia according to digital foundry, and having the whole industry collectively working with PSSR on fixed hardware, we should see it evolve greatly over time
I do think Sony does have many first-party titles cooking. IMO, I would prefer them to release more info on these games when they are ready. Rather than a roadmap with no dates.
It's not just that it's just been remasters, it's that it's remasters of games that came out in the last decade that could run natively on the PS5 via BC. Last gen, we were getting high quality remasters of older titles like Crash, Spyro, THPS, and Shadow of the Colossus to name the best ones. What happened?

I was thinking the same. This is reminiscent to the PS3 days. The price was very high, they didn't release any major titles during the first half of the generation and people were complaining. The difference is that XBOX was doing great back then so they had to keep up and release amazing games that's how they stepped up and the second half of the PS3 life was amazing, but now XBOX is doing pretty bad, they have even less games than Sony and it's not a competition anymore. Let's just hope that they have games on their bag and are just waiting to announce them in the rest of the year, if not then we will most likely not have great games and they'd save that for the PS6. Which is crazy to think but it might be released in just a few more years.

I just started playing Final Fantasy 15 again on my PS5, man do I wish Square would release an updated PS5 version of that game. Its a beautiful game to begin with, i'm amazed it even runs on a PS4, but if it takes full advantage of the PS5, that game would look AMAZING.
