This will prevent me from going to m2. No reason if my m1 is about as fast or faster in many daily operational scenarios. Just NO
If you upgrade it to 16GB Ram and 512GB SSD you are very close to a 14" M1 Pro which is superior in so many different ways!

@@Mehwhatevr Waiting for the M2 Pro models for sure, but why?
      To get a M2 Pro/Max model or to buy a cheaper M1 Pro/Max?
Because if im right the M2 Pro/Max wont be much of a difference to the M1 Pro/Max, only if i consider the basic M2 is still 8GB Ram im sure the M2 Pro models will be standard 16GB aswell as the M1 Pro models.
In my opinion, before apple is working on faster CPU/GPU cores... apple better make 16GB Ram the "non Pro" minimum and 32GB (for M2 Pro+) the Pro Minimum.
Same for SSD.... NAND manufactureres dont even deliver less than 256GB chips anymore, mostly they deliver 512GB+ which means... APPLE, ITS TIME TO GIVE THE CUSTOMERS MORE SSD! 1TB absolute minimum (like 2x 512GB chips for fast speed), probably in the worst case a non Pro Machine with a single 512GB chip.

@@Mehwhatevr Im even thinking Apple wont even redesign the 14/16" enclosures so except for a M2 Pro/Max Upgrade we wont see much of a difference to the "old" M1 Pro/Max machines.

Quick question: Does System Report produce the exact Device Name for the SSD on Apple Silicon Macs? It would be nice if buyers could easily identify a system built with just one NAND chip without having to run a benchmark, especially in the future second-hand market.

That’s a bit of a stretch since it’s so usable. But it is a very clear example of how little regard Apple has for its user base and continually gives those seeking to save money the worst price/performance ratios they can short of getting sued for it. Anyone looking to save money should not be buying rom Apple. Used macs are the way to go and apple should be shamed for such tactics, they do this on so many models it should be a crime.

Not the worst, but the worst M series MacBook.
I think higher storage will have 2 chips and won’t suffer the same. But yeah, Apple cheaped out on this, and I’m sure it’s on purpose. This machine is simply the middle one that Apple ALWAYS use to lure you into the cheaper (more profitable) M2 Air or even better, go higher to the M1 Pro 14 or 16.
They’ve been doing this since Phil Schiller made it part of their DNA and every product release.
Look at the iPad Air. Its only purpose is to lure you into the Pro making it a better value. Same with iPhones.
