I received my CSR last Friday (12-21-12) and I LOVE IT! This thing is amazing! Very tight, and no dead zone. Powerful feedback and quiet. I have been using it with iRacing and it has really changed things for me. I have been driving the mx5, spec racer ford, and the new Mclaren. It has really helped with making chassis adjustments also. When the car starts hooking up the steering gets tight and forceful. This has really changed sim racing for me. Thanks again! Now its time for a rig ;)
you say serious racers a lot but ive never seen any serious racers use the 10 and 2 racing position because it sacrifices how far you can turn the wheel...... but you probably knew that
Thanks for the kind words. Yes, the CSR will give much greater feedback. You can dial in the damper and spring as well as the ForceFeedback and get a very firm wheel to turn. It makes a really nice set when matched with the CSR Elite pedals. You will be amazed! But I've found it works much better in some sims than others. RACE Injection and the other SimBin sims are incredible with this wheel, as are some mods in rFactor and iRacing of course.
FANATEC SERVICE UPDATE I ordered the CSR XL Value Pack on late Friday night (12-14-12) and on the following Monday (12-17-12) they shipped it out. I am sure they do not work weekends so this turn around time I think was pretty fast. Thanks again SimRacingReview for all the help and info!
Both the CSR and the Porsche wheels are far above the G27 in feel - a toy in comparison. The nice Alcantara rim of the Porsche wheel feels better in the hands but require gloves or care to stay nice. The CSR plastic rim doesn't feel as nice but has a bit more feedback feel thanks to it's lighter weight.
If you want to do it right you need the pedals with the load sensor braking, and that's the CSR Elites! Shoot for the CSR Value XL package with the wheel, Elite pedals and the pair of shifters.....it would be worth waiting and saving up for....
I make sure that everything is turned off. Then plug in wheel and pedals. Then turn on wheel. Then turn on PS3 and go to menu. If still doesn't work, leave everything on and unplug and replug in the wheel. You may also need to go to the control settings in GT5 and make sure you have the wheel selected and setup.
We've had both the CSR, Porsche, and CSR Elite for over a year and have had zero problems. But we don't use the wheel as non-stop as a lot of people do - or as we are using the Clubsport now......
The cheapest is the CSR value pack at 249 which is the CSR wheel and CSR pedals. But I HIGHLY recommend the CSR value pack XL that includes the CSR wheel, CSR Elite pedals (with load sensor brake and better actions) and the pair of CSR shifters the H and the sequential.
Oh that is a very, very difficult question to answer.... I personally prefer the GT simply because of the rim material. The CSR may have just a bit more feed back and may look a bit more like a formula car wheel, but for me, I love the feel of that alcantara over the plastic.
I have had the Clubsport pedals and CSR Forza Wheel for over a year and have had no issues with console gaming. However on PC racing I have had issues with F1 2012 disconnecting a lot during sessions. Although not quite as often when I play iRacing. I think it might have something to do with the pedals shorting with static build-up as I can seem to replicate it. Supposedly it needs to be grounded but I do not know how to do this so this is an issue I have with them. Other than that, no issues.
As you can tell from my reviews I'm a HUGE fan of dedicated cockpits. Yes they cost a lot and they take up space, but they really add to the realism of sim racing.
I have noticed that you use the CSR in alot of your videos. Would you prefer the CSR to the G27? Have not seen alot of info on this particular wheel except for your video. I am trying to decide between the two. I am using a gamepad at the moment so this will be my first wheel. Thanks for any wisdom you can shed on the matter!
This may be late but I have all three wheels (G27, 911 v2, CSR) and by far I like the CSR best (mainly in FM4). G27's feedback is really rubbery and soft, with the CSR I have to turn down the FF and even then it's nice and strong. I pulled off the grips though - the alcantara peeled off and now I just use gloves and with the plastic gone, it's easy to place the hands. Don't really like the 911, it's pretty clunky and it's a toss-up at least in GT5 (G27 for race cars, 911 for road cars).
I've had the wheel for around 18 months and i still works fine but the little button/ joystick on the wheel to move left & right in menus sometimes sticks when trying to use also i usually set the turning amount to 900 degrees but when i next go on it, it just goes back to 650 degrees (default setting) as its supposed to remember but other than that its great!!!
GREAT review i own a Logitech driving force gt that i am yet to use, and have never used a wheel before. Just recently got into forza and started looking around at reviews for decent wheel for the 360 and to my horror the only really good wheels and pedals seemed to be bu Fanatec. I was disappointed because of the price, but after some research it really seems worth it, think i'll sell the GT and get one of these.
Word in the garage is that SeahawksFan2 was spending lot of time with you on it ;) He was texting me on the pedal issues that day. I've got a couple rfactor tutuorials up if you need any other help. They're win 7 based though...but should provide some extra insight if you're stuck on anything :) Any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
If you get the Clubsport pedals with any of the Fanatec wheels - especially the CSR Elite you will get (what I think) is as realistic of feel (for the money) that you can get in sim racing. Then all you'll need is a cockpit with a ButtKicker ;-)
Ah-ha! I just updated it and I'm pretty sure the problem is solved. It works with the sequential shifter anyway. Will check the H shifter now. Thank you :D
It was a joke......I just think the Playseat is soo cool and I really want one, so I was expressing my opinion by saying "can u send me one" as a joke. You don't have to judge someone based off of their username. I created it when I was 8 and now i'm 14. I watch all of your videos on advice and reviews and plus I just purchased a CSR wheel with Clubsport pedals and a Porche shifter set because of u. :) thanks.
Ok SimRacing, I'm work a part time job, because I'm still in school, so I'm a little concerned with dropping $380 on the XL value pack. How has the wheel held up so far, and does this wheel still work well without being hard mounted? It will take me a while to get the money for the rennsport wheelstand, so I'll have to use a piece of plywood or a table in the meantime. Thanks in advance.
Cool. I just asked because I bought a Fanatec GT3RS V2 last june and between june and march this year I first had to get the first wheel replaced in september , then the power adaptor died on the replacement wheel in november so they sent me a used power adaptor then in march the replacement wheel broke so I sold the last replacement wheel because I didn't want to keep getting that wheel replaced. I need a good wheel because I am using a Logitech DFP with CSR Elite pedals.
He (and your video tutorials he passed along) were both big helps, but unfortunately I bigger issues with rFActor not running correctly with a Mac & Windows OSs running parallel. Finally figured out all the problems. Mac must run Windows alone. Now everything is working fantastic. Wheel & pedals respond correctly, Feel is far better, and well, it's as it should be ;-)
This package is a great way to get started! I have had zero problems....I've never tried a wheel not hard mounted so I really can't say. But you do what you have to do to race until you get the stand - and rest-assured that it will work better than not racing ;-)
I'm really interested in this wheel and the prize actually seems to be pretty competitive for the features that you get. I'd imagine it to be a huge step up from my Logitech Formula Force EX.
The CSR indeed! A gamepad - oh my! Even if you already had a G27, the CSR would make it feel like a toy....The G27 is a great wheel, but lacks the feel of the CSR. I suggest that you look into the CSR Value pack that includes the CSR Elite pedals and the pair of shifters (H pattern and sequential). The load sensor on the brake makes the pedals feel far more realistic than the typical potentiometer pedals.
On your standard CSR do you have the problem that the wheel vibrates when you turn it to the end of it's steering radius if you set it at lower than 900 degrees. I did until my CSR broke and got refunded. Do you think it was faulty when I got it?
They are expensive, but finding out what is the right gear to get and getting it first will actually save you money in the long run. But beware once you get hooked into sim racing your life will never be the same - and neither will your bank account ;-)
And that is the million dollar question.....We've tried those leather steering covers for cars, but they are all too large in diameter. I thought about wrapping it with 1/8" clothesline rope and black tape like we used to do in the 'old' days....but was concerned it might look kinda, well, old.... If you come up with any ideas please let us know......there are a lot of people looking for ideas......
I have exactly the same issue. In iRacing I am left on the grid with no connection at all. I can pull out the USB cable and re-connect but I get no FFB and that makes iRacing near-on impossible. Do you have your pedals connected to your wheel or directly to your PC?
I don't turn the feedback all the way up. What you do lack on the PS3 is the damper not as high as I like...some of the PC sims allow that to be turned up over 100% for a very forceful wheel.
I'm sure you've been asked this a million times but how do you get 270+ rotation on the Forza games whilst maintaining the ability to use the shifter? I know the trick of turning your xbox on with the wheel. This lets you use up to 900 degrees rotation without that "ice" sensation but it disables my shifter. When I recalibrate my shifter, the steering goes crazy again. Are there any wheel settings that can override this or does the Forza branded wheel simply not work properly with Forza?
Not as much. It won't feel as good in your hands because of that plastic rim, but will have more feedback because it is lighter. The next step to take (I think) would be the Elite wheel - better in every way!
by watching your reviews on the PORSCHE 911 GT3 RS V2 WHEEL and the Fanatec CSR Wheel the motors look exactly same even the SN# is the diff only in the wheel
Check out the Fanatec website for complete information. The wheel is called the Forza CSR, and I believe Forza is only for Xbox. Am I missing something in your question?
Well, I think the GT3 has far better feel to the rim with the Alcantara, but the CSR has a slight better feedback with the lighter plastic rim. I think I prefer the buttons on the CSR as well.
Hi! which wheel do you think is better the CSR or the GT2? I have a GT2 but fanatec is going to replace my wheel and I dont know if I want them to send me a new GT2 or make them send a CSR. Please help.
Well yes it work for the 360 of course but, nothing is confirmed for Fanatec gear to work with the upcoming Xbox One. That's why I was asking. It's kind of got all of us Forza fans a little uneasy with the lack of support from Microsoft. All we can do is wait for something official from MS or Fanatec.
I think it would be quite foolish for any company to produce a new sim that wasn't backward compatible to existing products so I would fully expect it to work just fine. They should bolt right on. You may have to drill new mounting holes but that shouldn't be a big deal...
i have fanatec gt2 and i wonder when fanatec gives up on these rods. My wheel case cracked because of these shifter holder rods. From the first time i know that it will make problem and it did eventually. I make myself a shifter holder and now i'm using it but i'm still mad at fanatec. I really like my wheel but those shifters need another solution..
I'm starting to lean towards buying a G27 instead. I would love to buy the CSR wheel but I am afraid of having more trouble than its worth all over again
I was going to buy that wheel when Thomas first announced that it was going to be €499 but then just before release he said that the first batch would be €549 then go down to the expected price but when they put up the new website the Elite wheel went up in price. Anyway I am unemployed so that wheel is not an option right now. It would take me a few months to save for that wheel.
hi again, do u know if they upgraded this wheel internally from the original 911 turbo s wheel, as on the 911 turbo s wheel i had a fan problem after a few months, great wheel just it was braking all the time, is there any issues that have arised from this CSR wheel thanks again
Could you tell me what would be the cheapest fanatec setup for xbox 360? Someone on a different video said they bought a CSR wheel + pedals for $249.99, that sounds way cheaper than the prices ive seen on the fanatec website.
hello i think u guys are cool but i have a question, so i bought a csr forza motorsport wheel online but i cant connect my shifters to forza 3. I saw you guys playing forza with that wheel so i cant get the setting so can u tell me how
well actually my birthday comes up in about 3 weeks or so, and I've been thinking of getting this wheel with the standard csr pedals and then maybe get the shifters later on, are the standard csr pedals decent enough?
I'm hoping someone can help me out. I am looking at purchasing this wheel however I am curious about the long term effects of high usage. Does using the wheel for hours each day cause it to overheat? Thank you in advance
Nope, never get a heat problem, in manual pdf its written that fan is in constant mode, so no need to worry ab. overheating problem. Also this wheel has great reputation (not like Elite version, already discontinued), been using it without single issue since 2012.11. Just be sure to buy from "known" person and you won't be disappointed.
I had to laugh at your sweaty hands comment! I remember when I had just gotten into racing on consoles I had the same issue (it was really bad with the Logitech DFP that I had been using back then). Now with my G25 and G27 though, the leather does feel a lot better, but I wear gloves most of the time anyway, so it's back to sweating for me!
Hey I'm a bit late but which drivers do I install for my CSR forza motorsport wheel, my CSR shifters and also my CSR elite pedals? I'm really confused right now, and don't know which to choose on Fanatecs website. Tried the 64 bit firmware but its not running right now, stuck on 'Please Wait'.
How does this wheel compare to the DFGT? My DFGT is incredibly loud and clunky and I really want to get a quieter wheel with similar or better feedback. Does this one make any gear noise at all?
Chris, is your FirmWare up to date? You can check this on the Fanatec site or ask for help from the Fanatec crew... Make a little video illustrating the problem with Xbox It'll be needed by the guys to help you resolve that! ;-)
I had to come back to this wheel because my TS-PC broke. It works and you can have fun with it, but if you want to be competitive, you arrive at the limit of detail pretty quick. I'd suggest the CSL DD.
But I've found it works much better in some sims than others. RACE Injection and the other SimBin sims are incredible with this wheel, as are some mods in rFactor and iRacing of course.
You can mount the shifter on the wheel base using the supplied rods or on the cockpit using whatever adaptor you need for that rig.
FANATEC SERVICE UPDATE

Just ordered this and csr elite pedal set and shifter set. Now i can enjoy FM4 really. Hope this works good long time.
There is a toggle-like, 4-way lever with button on the left side of the wheel that controls the views to the sides and back.
If you want to do it right you need the pedals with the load sensor braking, and that's the CSR Elites! Shoot for the CSR Value XL package with the wheel, Elite pedals and the pair of shifters.....it would be worth waiting and saving up for....

If you move the shifter in as close to the wheel as you can it get s considerably more stable.
Glad to see the issue resolved and thanks jef for the info.
There are quite a few that sell and ship from the US.

My pleasure, and it's good to hear about Fanatec's good service. Now I can't wait to hear about how much you like the stuff ;-)
If you get the Clubsport pedals with any of the Fanatec wheels - especially the CSR Elite you will get (what I think) is as realistic of feel (for the money) that you can get in sim racing. Then all you'll need is a cockpit with a ButtKicker ;-)
Now that I have the Mac-Windows issues figured out I can finally practice! Thanks for your help!
I'm gonna order it , we'll see! the plastic on the wheel isnt the end of the world though , its a beast of a steering-wheel, success!
Oh, sorry, I overlooked the 'One' part completely. All I know are the 'hopeful' rumors....
If you have the money I'd step up to the CSR Elite. It's a great deal better in performance over the CSR or GT3
Ah-ha! I just updated it and I'm pretty sure the problem is solved. It works with the sequential shifter anyway. Will check the H shifter now. Thank you :D

Actually Thomas from Fanatec said he isn't sure the current Fanatec will work with the Xbox one and PS4.
You'll only need the shifters if you want to use an H-pattern or sequential shifters when you race.
I'm really interested in this wheel and the prize actually seems to be pretty competitive for the features that you get. I'd imagine it to be a huge step up from my Logitech Formula Force EX.
@SimRacingReview Can you look around your car with a racing wheel because there only seems to be one stick and not two.
The CSR indeed! A gamepad - oh my! Even if you already had a G27, the CSR would make it feel like a toy....The G27 is a great wheel, but lacks the feel of the CSR. Thanks a lot! Just a miner detail, but I want to be able to stare at my car after I make a sick graphic!
To me it's a complete package of some of the best stuff at a great price.
thanks for the quick reply, would this CSR wheel be a good upgrade from the original porsche 911 turbo S wheel?
I'm sure you've been asked this a million times but how do you get 270+ rotation on the Forza games whilst maintaining the ability to use the shifter? I know the trick of turning your xbox on with the wheel. This lets you use up to 900 degrees rotation without that "ice" sensation but it disables my shifter. When I recalibrate my shifter, the steering goes crazy again. Are there any wheel settings that can override this or does the Forza branded wheel simply not work properly with Forza?
Do you mean for just a seat? Or for the whole cockpit?
Not as much. It won't feel as good in your hands because of that plastic rim, but will have more feedback because it is lighter. The next step to take (I think) would be the Elite wheel - better in every way!
@mancavemotorsports Always love a good laugh with a new friend ;-)
Thanks for staying tuned in to us.
Thank you so much for your reply! I will definitely do just that!
Looks like you don't have more things to review other than your CSR or this is the same video?
by watching your reviews on the PORSCHE 911 GT3 RS V2 WHEEL and the Fanatec CSR Wheel the motors look exactly same even the SN# is the diff only in the wheel

Am I missing something in your question?
Does anybody have this wheel with over six months? If so how is the reliability of the wheel?
how can you change camera angles like the right stick would do?
Hey ! i have a question.. i have got a csr wheel but i dont really like the plastic , is there something like rubber for the wheel??
thanks
Well, I think the GT3 has far better feel to the rim with the Alcantara, but the CSR has a slight better feedback with the lighter plastic rim. I think I prefer the buttons on the CSR as well.
SimRacingReview how do I set this up on pc?
What company for your racing seats do you recommend. I can't find a good company.
And as you get used to the intensity, you can calm down a bit - maybe ! Gloves are the answer for sure....
so you can mount the shifter on the stand correct?
Where did you hear it works for the Xbox one? I thought thrustmaster is MS official wheel partner.
Hi! which wheel do you think is better the CSR or the GT2? I have a GT2 but fanatec is going to replace my wheel and I dont know if I want them to send me a new GT2 or make them send a CSR. Please help.

yup they did

Nope, never get a heat problem, in manual pdf its written that fan is in constant mode, so no need to worry ab. overheating problem. Also this wheel has great reputation (not like Elite version, already discontinued), been using it without single issue since 2012.11.
Just be sure to buy from "known" person and you won't be disappointed.
It just seems like there's never enough ;-) But when you do get a 'good' wheel, you will be amazed at how much more fun racing will be.
And can I plug in turtle beaches or any x box 360 mic for that matter
How would you rate the GT3 vs CSR personally, just curious?
I had to laugh at your sweaty hands comment!
I remember when I had just gotten into racing on consoles I had the same issue (it was really bad with the Logitech DFP that I had been using back then). Now with my G25 and G27 though, the leather does feel a lot better, but I wear gloves most of the time anyway, so it's back to sweating for me!
How connect this steering wheel on GT5 ??? Do not work ...
I'm sure it will !
Yes.
Those seats look so comfy
Nice review Doug, very clear and informative. Hope to see ya in a V8 on the track soon ;)
How does this wheel compare to the DFGT? My DFGT is incredibly loud and clunky and I really want to get a quieter wheel with similar or better feedback. Does this one make any gear noise at all?
Ya man, it would be a real shame if you had to browse TV channels using a controller. Thank God the Fanatec works for Xbox One!
Chris, is your FirmWare up to date? You can check this on the Fanatec site or ask for help from the Fanatec crew... Make a little video illustrating the problem with Xbox It'll be needed by the guys to help you resolve that! ;-)
How does this video age? Is the feel of the feedback still up to par?
I had to come back to this wheel because my TS-PC broke. It works and you can have fun with it, but if you want to be competitive, you arrive at the limit of detail pretty quick. I'd suggest the CSL DD.
hello, the shifter cable, wath type is? the two sides is same conector ps/2 or is type a expansor?, MALE>MALE or MALE>FEMALE?
Glad to!
Do we dare try it with just one package or do you think we need two?
it sounds like it could be a problem with your ps2 cable, or wheel itself. i do not have this problem. probs best asking fanatec support about it.
So I can play forza horizon and can you plug in a xbox 360 head set to the wheel?
