    The 86 cars were beasts, all of them. I saw them race. They were unbelievably loud, despite the turbos, and more a little scary. You were never too sure that one of them wouldn't just blow an engine and shoot bits of metal and hot lubricants all over the track.

      I understand why they've built engines to last half a dozen races. But I do miss the unpredictability of having cars driven beyond the limits of the hardware and blowing up on track.
      Back then Lewis might have been a lap up on 3rd place but that didn't necessarily mean he was going to win every race.

    • @Obi-WanKannabis

      That's actually insane because if anything the track was slower than today. Was Jimmy on the right tyres?

    • @szalonysebcio5
      @szalonysebcio5 6 ปีที่แล้ว +169

      Considering that Jimmy is not a professional racing driver and Senna was an absolute beast on Monaco, only 1.5 seconds off the Senna's pace (albeit on a modern, faster circuit) is still a damn achievement, considering that with few more laps of practice he could probably go around 0.5 faster!

    • @Obi-WanKannabis
      @Obi-WanKannabis 6 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      it was more like 1.8 seconds slower. But still yea, Prost was 1.4 seconds slower in 1988 so it's not unreasonable.

    • @ouaisgro2502
      @ouaisgro2502 6 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Prost was 1.4 second away, but faster !

    • @joaoandrade2828
      @joaoandrade2828 6 ปีที่แล้ว +68

      These F1 drivers are INSANELY FAST for sure (the champions are god level). A curious fact: Prost and Senna dominated the Monaco Grand Prix for TEN YEARS, alternating the first place from 1984 to 1993. Also interesting the fact that Senna is considered the "Master of Monaco" with 5 poles, 6 wins (5 consecutive wins from 1989 to 1993) and 8 podiums (and he achieved these stats with only 10 races on the principality). About Jimmy, don't underestimate the 1.5 second difference, because this difference is more significant in a slow and short track like Monaco. But great drive by him anyway.

      Hi Guys,
      I found this link a few years back. I never got to do it justice and point anyone to it but, today is good for it. :-)
      This site provides clear, simple track maps for many circuits AND, includes any changes made year by year. Find the circuit; click the 'Year'. Simple. In a panel to the right is a list of tabs that display alternative layouts including separate inner courses.
      There is a 'Pro' section right of the site menu bar. It seems similar but may include races of 'Pro' rating.
      So, to solve your Monaco track dispute... www.racingcircuits.info/

    Sick video about a sick car! I happened to test this car in Project Cars 1, visiting my friend, and there you can set the turbo pressure as bar units (instead of %) - the default setting is 4.7 bar and the highest is 6.0!! On top of this, the pressure gauge inside the car actually has a digital display on top, reading up to 6570 mbar! Was a helluva time in Silverstone 1986 layout with VR, but I must say, the soundscape in Assetto Corsa is on a different level. Love the noises of fuel burning in the exhaust!

    I think you would have still had a good time if you didn't give a slight lift at the swimming pool on that final flying lap. Senna had it judged so fine that he'd often kiss the barrier with the tyres and you don't have to worry about the consequences of a crash. I remember one of the things I realised about driving a forklift around awkward corners, with and without a load, in a previous job was that if you clear something by even 1mm you still don't hit it. Same applies to racing at well over 100mph at Monaco.

    This car is the most challenging to drive from the whole grid.
    Another one is the Sauber Group C.
    Old time classics teaching the essence of driving.From the era when power was way ahead of control.A huge gokart on steroids.
    It's challenging to do a proper clean lap with it not mentioning racing.
    But when you learn it then it is an absolute pleasure to drive these cars on the edge.
    You can really feel the car and its limits more then any other.
    If you can control this car then you can drive any other.

    I remember Murray Walker and James Hunt on commentary at a Monaco around this time. This particular year, James was late to the commentary and Murray was holding the shop. When James arrived, sometime around the 4th or so lap in, he was obviously pissed. His commentary was hilarious and Murray was still holding the fort over his quite drunken rambling and lack of tact. IIRC, I think it was the year it was rained out but I might be wrong about that. I do however remember from the rained out year James saying (wtte), "Oh Murray, it's absolutely pissing down now," which was jolly funny in a Derek and Clive (Cook & Moore) sorta way. It was very British.

    Differences between modern day Circuit de Côte D'Azure and the 80's layout is that, back then their was less room. Much of the current runoff was non-existent back in the day. This resulted in a slower track time but I don't think it was any more dangerous then current day Monaco. Slower track time were because of tighter turns. The most notable parts of the track being Ste Devote, Piscine, and La Rascasse. Now a days, when you enter Piscine, there is a bit of run off and a rumble strip on the outside and run off to at the exit of the Piscine complex. This didn't exist back then as well as Rascasse being a bit wider. Everything from Beau Rivage to the Tunnel, and Antony Noghes hasn't really changed of the years.

    When you drive this car you really feel that the back is trying to go faster than the front. This is definitely the best AC car to drive.

    Hey Jimmy nice driving and good commentary !! Why dont you try to spice up the videos by adding some external camera footage. That would be really awesome.

    I notice that you push full throttle quickly with this turbo car. I spin out of control when I do that, even at high speeds. It is as if driving on eggs.

    It's incredible how short those cars are, the driver's feet must be scrunched right up in the end. How did anyone ever become mad enough to get in one and drive it in anger?

    I wonder how Senna would practice for the Monaco? considering that Simulators still weren't implemented in training. I know Schumacher had tried the sim and he didn't like them, Said they made him dizzy and were not accurate in description to the real thing. But he did how ever spend some time in time. But going back to the late 80's and early 90's. I'd imagine they just watched video from cockpit view for hours and memorized it.

      It really doesn't take too long to learn most tracks. I always liked to walk a track the first time I was there just to get an idea for it and look for any quirks or hazards. After that, a few laps of practice is about all it takes to get it down. Of course I never ran a track as long and twisty as old Nurburgring. I imagine that would take longer. The real thing is really easier as far as getting it down goes compared to sims.
      For example, the first time I ever raced at Summit Point, my second lap of practice was a time that would have qualified me 5th. I ended up qualifying 3rd and finishing 2nd. The winner was on a whole different level, he stomped our asses.

    and if u know the grandmaster himselve ayrton senna flipped gears and steared this beasts down there while stearing with one hand a LOT, u must trully wonder, what and u could say suicidal but godlike skills this man was given on wheels. great champion, great persona. a king on the wet, but dangerous in the dry, and monoco, unseen what he dit down there. trullly unseen and even insane.
