  • Well today's 10k race didn't quite go to plan but thats sometimes just how it goes. Training has been going well but on the day it didn't come together. I will take these lessons into my next races and look forward to going again soon. I always feel it important to share both the highs and lows across social media as after all thats the reality. If you enjoyed the vlog (despite me being a bit of a Debbie Downer) please leave a like and consider subscribing.

Despite your disappointment Ben this was a brilliant video and absolutely no reason to feel down or beat yourself up about it. I've had a few races like this myself this year, around the same time as yours, where they start well and then a third of the way in you realise it's not going to go according to plan - and boy is it tough to keep going mentally when you can feel the pace dropping and the legs struggling. However, always worth keeping going and refocussing your mind to making it a training run as you did and live to fight another day when you'll be all the stronger for it - both mentally and physically. Well done for sharing when things didn't go as hoped - it was a great insight and something many will be able to relate to.

It’s happened to us all. Thing is you never quite know what shape you’re in and it’s so easy to overcook it if you overestimate your level of fitness. And once you go out too fast the pace then does fall off drastically. On to the next one.

This is how I felt this year when I ran a 5:19 mile, my fastest ever mile pr, and then around a couple weeks later, I ran another mile race and ran 10 seconds slower, running a 5:29. Thankfully a few weeks later I bounced back to a 5:11 mile pr, an 8 second improvement. Thanks for the videos man, keep up the amazing work, and don't let the bad parts of the races (or anything in life really) get you down. It's not about if you have bad days, but about how hard life hits you, and then if you get back up.

This just looks like my last 10k race...It was a flat course so I was really confident that I could run a 4.48m/km and try to break 48m (47.59m) for a new PB. Aside from the hot weather, I also started a bit too hot, ran the first 3k at 4.40 - 4-42m/km and I ended up blowing up in the 4th kilometer. The last 3k's were a pain to finish and obviously, didn't get my PB... it was really disappointing but a lesson learned.

I should know better at 66 with 55 years of running experience. 🙄 Still a good time Ben. The most important thing is that you enjoy the run no matter how it turns out. I know that is easier said than done when you are competitive.
