You’re an absolute gent Ben. Really enjoy your videos and I love how accommodating you are of all runners whatever talent. I’m dreaming of a sub 22 5k so different league altogether but great to celebrate that we are all runners! Best of luck
Unreal time. Really cool to see athletes of your level talk about how you're feeling mid-race etc. I think us mere mortals sometimes just assume you guys are finding it easy at the front. Best of luck with your Berlin training.
I always remind myself about the rule of thirds: one third is above expectations, one run at expectations, and one below expectations. If you're not living the rule of thirds, you've either got a problem with your training or a problem with your expectations.
Interesting approach Eventho would definitely argue it shouldn’t be a rule of thirds for racing, you shouldn’t be putting ur body under the stress of racing unless u are truly going to race at or a over expectations
@@ItsFranxisprobably short quads and/or hip flexors. I'm not as obvious as that guy but I switched from being a cyclist where short hip flexors is the norm.
Nice video. That is the thing about 5km running - it’s sometimes super hard to judge how you will feel because it’s a fast pace for a bit longer than we feel comfortable. If you are really giving it a go, that last km is always rough.
Yeah 100%, I feel very fit at the moment in my training but havent been very 5k specific so i think that makes a big difference to the feeling at this pace
He runs like a Duracell bunny. He has lack of back-kick and a super-high cadence. Interesting to watch and a reminder that there’s no “optimal” running style, even though some light look more aesthetically pleasing than others.
@@yellowfoldermight not be a “perfect” form but there is definitely optimal. There’s key factors that each of the greats all have in their form. One of those is hip extension. It allows you to cover more ground with each step. This guy likely doesn’t benefit much from super shoes because of the lack of ground forces being generated. That form might work for a good marathon, but it’s hard to imagine him running a real fast mile or 3k
Good job Ben for breaking 15 mins. I am an amateur runner in central Texas and I love seeing your videos. I run regularly but I am not at your level…yet (~18 in 5K and 38.57 10K).
Great video and a superb time! Thank you for putting in the effort to share your running journey with us. Occasionally I see that you show some data from the Coros app. I’m a huge running data nerd and I have been wondering for a while what your max heart rate is. Thanks and I look forward to your next video.
The guy in the half back half reddish vest in most of the video has a running technique like he’s never run before, but is obviously extremely quick, so bizarre
Many things contribute to your running form other than your running technique; Torso to legs ratio, Arms reach, femur bone angle into the pelvic, neck length, overall muscle mass, overall muscle balances. Point being, never two people would look identical while running no matter how good their technique is, as no two people are the same structurally.
there are quite a lot of professionals that have a somewhat weird technique too, which just goes to prove that one shouldn't worry about form too much; do some drills, strides, and don't over stride, and you are probably golden
That was the plan. Unbelievably light but to be honest i was expecting a little more from the foam in terms of energy return. More testing needed, will probably run these into the ground now. Wont be precious :)

GPS around Battersea Park can be awful, depending on what watch you’re running with. It’s better with the latest multi band watches. I’ve often measured about 4.95km around there with my older watches. Your pace was sub 3/km, not 3:02/km. Obvs, given you ran 14:58
@CadenPallatto7724he said 3:02/km average pace (at 10:22 on the video). My broader point was that the watch is inaccurate and the course isn’t short, and the pace is therefore wrong. I only mention it as so many runners think their watch is gospel and the course measurers are wrong. Not Ben necessarily, as he was just reacting immediately for a video.
I ran at this exact Battersea Park RunThrough race last week Wednesday and the GPS is soooo off. My Apple Watch tracked 5.21k which was so frustrating 🙄
@@leahmcdermott4189 many watches are wrong around there, but Apple watches even worse! You really can’t pay any attention to the pace on your watch - better to know some absolute physical points in the course - like 1 lap is 2.39 km and work out how long that would take at target pace. The Runthrough course markers are a waste of time as well.
About 6-8 weeks before i could start building back slowly. I'd say it almost took 3 months to get back to the fitness i was prior as didnt want to risk any set backs :)
