I Ran My FASTEST Track 5K

- In today's vlog I raced at the Finsbury Park 5000 festival. After a not so great 10k race last weekend, I was keen to prove to myself the shape I felt I was in based on my training. That PB feeling certainly felt sweet after a 9 month absence. If you enjoyed the vlog please leave a like and consider subscribing

😂 your warm up run is my parkrun PB from a few days ago (22 June 2024)
And probably your park run must be my PB of 28 mins . But I'll get there soon🥳
Be the best you that you can be. No comparison needed. There’s always someone faster.
Well done on your new pb!!
@@Ray.J 👏🏾
@@Autumnblueskies1thank you 🙏🏾
Great stuff Ben, nice PB (and well done Bob on the pb too!)
22:42 warmup 5K is insane
Right!? Ben's warm up is almost my PB lol
Maybe I could do that on a bike but running it no hope 😢
Yep, that warmup in my country local 5k races will put you in the top 2% fastest runners
Not really. It's quick, but not that quick if you're running as fast as him
and speaking as nothing as happening x)
damn he pushed u making sure u wouldn't get past him in the end dirty
Only runners understand the tremendous effort required to shave off that 1 second for a personal best. Congratulations Ben on your new 5K record!
Absolutely 😂
@@chinpoeykhoo6261 All the more impressive given Ben’s coming back from a serious injury plus recovering from a marathon effort not so long ago. More to come I reckon.
I have 14 seconds to knock off to get a sub 20 (19:59) and non-runners always tell me how it'll be 'easy' lol.
@@kellysmithermanit's much more easy to shave 15 seconds of a 20 minute 5K PB versus 15 seconds of a 15 minute 5K PB. It shouldn't be that hard to progress and push to sub 19 and on. Difference in speed needed for 5K in 20 minutes versus 15 seconds faster is 0.19 km/h and for 15 minutes versus 15 less is 0.34 km/h. So more speed is needed and more difficult to go faster when you are already going fast (air resistance, physical limitations, and so on). So it depends on how fast your PB is how difficult it is to shave of 15 seconds. You can do it! 💪
@@user26912 definitely true. Unfortunately I pushed myself to the extreme however and now I am injured massively. Can barely walk, so my 5K track race in a couple of weeks where I was going to give it everything for the sub 20 is no longer happening. Turns out, I'm not a machine. CRYING. Hope to be back asap but that sub 20 will be even more difficult. thank you though :D
Really brilliant aesthetic from the new camera, the voice over sections, and you doing those pieces to camera. When you mix it in with the more usual hand held sections etc it really keeps things fresh and interesting all the way through. A brilliant piece of work. Great to see Ben, nice one.
Appreciate the feedback Rich! Always nice to try something new creative wise too
Few friendly elbows being thrown across the line by highgate there 👀
I believe that the rulebook says that a competitor shall run in a direct line after entering the final straightaway…unless there is another competitor in his or her path. I suspect that the Highgate Harrier violated the rules.
The video quality for sure increased with the new camera! Congrats on that shiny new PB Ben ;)
Thanks Andres, glad you enjoyed it. Money well spent
Noticed the step up in stylistic production. The “walking towards camera speaking” felt like something new, too. Nice one, guys.
Also, your warmup is only slightly behind my threshold pace, LOL
Thanks mate! Always nice to try something a little different and see if it sticks :)
You’ve made it Ben. Weird ass bots commenting on your vids.
Yeah a bit annoying but heyho! 😂
Love everything about the video. Especially the 90’s grandstand music
Thanks for the feedback ❤
The congrats and brotherly love with other runners right at the finish line is the epitome of track and field fraternity. I love and miss that so much
Yeah it’s a bloody good feeling when you all have a smile on your face despite being in a world of hurt for the first few minutes after 😂
Under 15 mins. That’s good
Actually thought to myself that the video looks noticeably better early. Much better focus and audio sounds great. Keep that one!
Now when are you going to get Josh Kerr on yer podcast?
It’s £72 a a day so will hire it out again for special occasions 😂
@@BenIsRunning Sounds like a great sponsorship oppo! :D
@@BenIsRunning wow that's quite cheap for hiring Josh Kerr for a whole day
22:42 warm up is quite literally my 5k PB lmao. Only difference is my heart rate average was 176 BPM 😂
😂 it’s roughly my pb some 5 years ago, maybe you’ve got a sub 15 in ya
Congratulations Ben 👏🙌 you rock 😃 Have to tell you my PB form 25 years ago when I was racing was 21:52 (close to your warm up time! I'll never see that again but I still love running and love watching your videos! Thanks for taking us along!
Congrats on your new pb Ben!
Cycling is strict on people holding their line in sprint finishes, and while the same speeds and risks aren't replicated in running, being spiked, elbowed, or face-planting a sprint finish aren't much fun. It seems to be happening more frequently, and every incident is another too many. It needs to be stopped before someone loses their teeth in a road race.
i didn't even realize i kept watching this guy run without even subscribing
You know what to do 🫡
Almost 100k Ben! Well done!
1:24 is it a bird, is it a plane...
Not sure how you manage to keep a McDonald's down after a race. Then I watched Nick Bester and he says he sometimes has a pint and a cigarette!
Dude, you would go even faster without the McDonald’s
Do you have any recommendations for running podcasts? Thanks. Great run Ben
I used to play American Football at that ground. London Blitz.
Its mad how much this channel has grown i remember you celebrating 20,000 subscribers now its nearly 100,000 👏🏻👏🏻 and congratulations on the PB 👏🏻👏🏻.
Do you wear a puls band around your overarm instead around your chest ? Is it just as precise as around your chest ? Inga,
More close-up shots of Liam's mouth would be great in all future videos!
Ben, your sprint finish was *very* fast for a 5k… could you go a bit harder for a longer finishing kick? Easy to suggest, not so easy to do I am sure…
Looking back at the race, I certainly feel like I feel asleep a little at 800m and then left myself too much at the end. Fine margins on the track but good to know for next time I can wind it up a littler further out
My 5k PB is 21:54, on the road to sub 20 one day.
Just did my first 5k ever and got 26min and ur warmup way better 😅
noticed difference with camera but it was weird at some points. save the cash....
You must be getting big time, the bots are out in force in the comments 😂
Seriously though, watching a lot of different running TH-camrs there's been a few who have been gutted with their first race of the summer then smashed a pb on the 2nd or 3rd. I reckon that 14:56 is going to drop down further before summer's out !
I think there was a little bit of focus issues at the track. Maybe I was imagining things
I had a Big Mac after my HM last Sunday - worth every calorie 😂
Best runner and the best influencer
He’s not even top 5 in GB lol
@@Hhhhhsgaganot even in this race 🫢 but I appreciate the support 🫡
A pb is a pb 🎉
Who is the meditating person in right bottom corner of video?
Videos are PB-ing in quality too
Nice of #38 to run into your lane at the finish.
All part of racing on the track. I certainly didn’t have much control of my body either at that point. Nothing wrong with it in my eyes :)
Rock solid performance!! Perfect way to run it mate 📈
i didnt know you were jesse pinkman
Great run, great video, congratulations on the P.B.do your confidence the world of good.🏃
9:07 Maybe this is just me but is that guy trying to cut you off? I mean I get it’s a race but that’s just bad sportsmanship and shameless tbh
What a run!
Bro he cut you off at the line
Great video and of course great performance mate
Thanks buddy
Nice one, Ben. Looking good 👍
Well ran Ben. Great to see you kick on after the 10k last week! 💪
Appreciate it! Thanks Ryan
Amazing effort, Ben!! Well done! I’d say you redeemed yourself and then some. I’ve got my first proper 5k in a few weeks. (Plenty of time before Fall marathon) so hopefully that goes well. Anyway, job well done, man!
Every race should be run without paying too much attention to a watch - especially if it's a short race like a 5K. A race is a race not a time trial, how fast you run is only part of the picture - the aim has to be to win the race (or at least beat as many people as possible) or die trying. Obviously you can't actually run that hard but that has to be the aim. Congrats on the PB. The 10K was just one of those runs - but not too unexpected as it was your first "short" race in quite a while.
Smashed it Ben! Well done. Camera quality is great, would say downside is tone down on the random 1 second shots successively. First 20 seconds of video for example, bit of a distraction / headache lol.
So not only did you get a new 5k pr, (even if it's just 1 second, it's still a pr man!), but you also won that hot chocolate as well :D 10:25 let's goo Ben! I ran a 2 mile time trial last week and ran a 12:37 which is 58 seconds behind my fastest ever 2 mile time (11:39) but to be fair, I haven't ran fast in a while and took a 2 week break before that as well, so I'm really looking forward to seeing what I can do after I do some months of training in XC and in the summer! Really wanting to break 11 minutes this year, break 18 minutes in the 5k, and of course the infamus (is that how you spell it Ben? Infamus?) sub 5 minute mile! Love that grind Ben!
“Failure is only the opportunity more intelligently to begin again” a week after bangggg 👊👊🤫
Great job brooo…Lesss gouuuu💪🏻💪🏻
Love the new approach to introducing the video with you walking and talking to the camera. Nice work Ben!
Lets go Ben! I have a 10KM and 5KM Race coming up next month, right in the middle of my marathon block so going to use them as some sessions.
22.42 for a 5k warming up while talking to camera. Different World! 😂😂😂
Nice work Ben. It's amazing to see your progression. I am probably twice your age and I wish I had dedicated some of my younger years to the sport. Just wasn't interested at that time. I do think the new camera you rented is a massive upgrade. I noticed it right away. As always love your channel and seeing your adventures.
Nice new studio! Could see the camera was higher quality, but TBH, I don’t come here for the cinematography! I come for the running!
Fair enough, was certainly fun from a creative perspective to try something new :)
I wondered if it was a different camera at the start of the video, I really like it. Also really enjoyed watching the race with the voice over. It really felt that everyone was competitive but in a sort of supportive way, ie by pushing the group then you can better yourself. Really well done on the race, you seemed to have a great mental attitude going into it!
I would love to do parkrun in your warmup time!!!! 🎉 Great running Ben. Inspired not to do this mornings training.😊
I am a fan of your running content Ben
Cheers Luke 🤝
Used to do my scout sports day there back in the day. Great little place 😊
Are you sure that Wyred should be pronounced as "weird"? I would have thought it was "wired" which would be way more of a cool name than "weird". Maybe check with your mate that sent you the free kit?
I bet you're fun at parties
@@mbbdnsjndk8297 if I'd given free stuff for a plug I'd want my company name pronounced correctly. Just saying....
Well done on the pb and the edit was awesome-you've been hanging about with that Fordy character havent you!
Did you make any videos on your stress fracture and the recovery process?
BRO I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS
Thanks 🙏
Bloody fantastic Ben. Am beeming from ear to ear for you, you have all the speed 🎉🎉
Brilliant, congrats on the PB. Love the voice overs for the race.
the transition shots are insane, def noticed a difference was surely better.
22:42 warm up?!...*quietly cries....
Enjoyed this one! Nice race! The style also felt a little different too.
Insane, congrats Ben. Through the highs and lows😊
Bro’s warmup is faster than my PB lol
Great camera action and editing in this video Ben 👌🏼
Sometimes they happen when you least expect it
Congrats brother 🎉
Appreciate it
Great running Ben, congratulations on a new PB!
You were the hammer 🔨 this time Ben
Hi Ben! Awesome run! I was wondering, how do you find these track events? Do you search up open invites and then sign up for them?
Usually hear about them from buddies that have done them previously. Opentrack is a good place to have a look
@@BenIsRunningsweet! I’ll check it out, thanks!
Great running ben, congratulations.
Top effort Ben well done mate!
just me or was the guy crossing the line infront of ben super unsportsman like when he crossed into the lane ben was running in? or is that normal for races that u run infront of someone like that ? number 38, ben has to push him away to not run into him after the finish line
Just track racing in my opinion. Very different to the roads. You naturally drift out to protect the position and I personally didn’t have issues with it. He ultimately had a faster kick at the end of the race :)
@@BenIsRunning alright, i see what youre saying. i still feel like it was kinda unnecessary, not that big of an event, not even racing for #1, guy looked up at u right after the finish like he knew he did something kinda unsportsman and to see your reaction.. you're a good guy ben, i would probably would have gotten a bit mad about that.
He literally leapt in front of you! With his elbows out 😂 looks bad imo haha
Well done Ben🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
this guy probably runs a full marathon for a warm-up before the actual marathon race 😆
Ha
Amazing video
Great job....👍👍
Congrats mate! Great stuff as always but the new camera is brilliant!
Thanks Nils, was great fun trying something new. 15x zoom and that quality was a game changer
Top work 💪💪💪
Fantastic Ben
Great video and such a cool event too!
Yes Ben
Hair looking good longer! I think it'd suit you to grow it even more!
Thanks, giving it a whirl 😊
Top work lad 🤙🏻
Great race!
Shoutout to the commentator!! Incredible race mate!!!
