@@Jusvidz I have no desire to go to extremes on either but I think average gives you the best of both worlds. I honestly just want to run with a fur baby. I agree @TMoney_9289 Getting annoyed at someone wearing a hydration vest is just a dick move. What are they actually getting annoyed at? I wear one quite often on short runs simply for its convenience as I listen to music and my phone is on the large side. I stick the vest on, shove in the phone and go. I always run with my vest. No matter what distance. Most times I’m not even carrying liquids. I use it to carry my phone and pepper spray because running alone without protection is not an option. So putting on my vest is the same as lacing up my shoes 😊🇨🇦
Same here… it is the only solution to take my phone with me without getting chafed. I do have to admit that I have a very small one for below 90 minutes runs and a “normal” sized one for the bigger work and the trails.

I'm an ultra runner/ mountain runner and recently exploring the idea of hyrox. Heres my view (nobody asked) I do get that hyrox can be a bit cringe as it's quite influencer heavy. But the main benefit I see is that most weight lifters could really benefit from some cardio focus and most runners could really focus with some weight lighting (both are crucial to a healthy and long life).. so this has just created an environment that allows people to test themselves. Plus the training isn't as intense and it doesn't leave you as knackered. Plus top end hybrid athletes looks better that top end runners/weight lifters (in my opinion) So I think hyrox / hybrid ticks a lot of the right boxes.
Love this 😂 BTW congrats Philly and Daniel, you only have 5k subscribers before your 100k goal before the end of the year 🎉🎉 feel like a proud parent watching you guys grow ❤️
Calf sleeves do make sense and are actually cheaper: as socks wear out much more quickly, having separate calf sleeves you only need to replace the low socks instead of the long compression socks. Don't know if they work though. But I still wear them as can be seen on my profile pic XD
I have my handful of metals hanging on my wall. I'm just a 40 yo hobby jogger. But I love seeing them. They are just in my bedroom displayed for myself and if my family wants to see them. This video it is so good, so funny!! I found by TH-cams recommendation and proceeded to watch your 2h25 marathon PB. I love the way you are, you are simply amazing, one of us and still a hell of a runner. I started running (properly training with a coach) 6 months ago and did a 1h33 HM. Your marathon video inspired me to make my first marathon in a sub 2h50 time. I literally was doing an easy jog in the threadmill and I could see my bpm rising significantly because I was so excited for you. It will be 2-3 years of training for that, but I’ll make sure to print this and come back in one of your videos to say “I loved the grind”. Best of luck, you’re the best!!
Love the 💕 you gave to triathletes. I just ran a marathon PB at Marine Corps Marathon a month after doing a full Ironman. My aerobic engine was the biggest it’s ever been!!
I think with good quality socks the risk of ill effect is likely to be negligible. Interestingly there's some evidence that calf sleeves actually prevent GI upset in Marathon racing.
I'm a physical therapist, and run about 30-40 miles a week. I find calf sleeves are perfectly fine as long as they aren't too tight. Definitely feels good when I face shin splints
SAME! Started reading through the comments hoping to see others in my boat. Wearing anything but toe socks causes little blisters on the tips of my toes (and I've tried various shoes and the runner's lacing lock) Thanks for the videos Phily - Love the Grind!
There I was stewing about +30 minute YT videos and then this gem comes along. Riveting for every single second and hilarious. Daniel's editing goes in the LOVE THE GRIND category!
For me personally I ALWAYS run with a vest but for a very specific reason. I wear Bluetooth hearing aids and the Bluetooth is fairly low power. If I keep my phone in a pocket or belt on my waist or even an upper arm holder my music or audio books cut in and out, especially when I turn my head. My vest has a pocket that my phone goes in that keeps it up close to my head eliminating this issue. Since I’m running with a vest anyway I keep a house key and copies of my ID etc in it all the time so I can just “grab and go”, often without water. So yea, even on a 5K run you’ll see me with my vest! (Of course I total appreciate this is only applicable to me!) 😊
I have a breathing issue that requires very high levels of hydration to keep my throat from closing up on me when I run. Catch me in a hydration vest in anything over 15 or 20 minutes. I think there's a lot of folks with medical issues who appreciate hydration vests. Reminds me of a lot of mobility tools where folks say if you don't need the specific tool...be glad! It's probably really nice to not dig out a hydration vest to run a 5K but I am a huge fan of breathing and you are a huge fan of being able to hear traffic and what is going on around you to stay safe.
Big toe box shoes and toe socks are fantastic. Looks funny but it saves my feets from so many blisters. I'll die defending this on the toe sock hill, they are great! 😂😂
whats wrong with being average at everything? id rather behing able to lift and run than being super good at only one thing if im doing it as hobbie, thats me tho
Had to hold my breath while you debated triathlon - so relieved when it passed the test 🤣 This is even more ridiculous when I reveal that I don't actually do triathlons, I'm just an avid fan 🤣🤣🤣
Lol, I have a medal rack, but my husband bought it for me, and it's in our bedroom so nobody else sees it 😂 I'm trying to do a half marathon in all 50 states, so it is a fun visual reminder of my progress, but mostly it's just a practical place to put all of the medals until I'm ready to do something else with them.
I use my vest for all distances, Just because I need to carry my phone with me to track my workout and listen to music (I don’t have a fancy watch)and for my keys and stuff, and any other solution like hip pockets doesn’t work for me. Love the video ❤😂
Trailrunning is the greatest😍 well at least if you live in Switzerland - its just stunning everywhere in the mountains! Much prefer it to running on the street, mainly for the views & the adventure though. There’s some wonderful UTMB-races around!
Toe socks rock if you have blister problems. I had to strap my toes in muddy XC races or they would get trashed. After starting using the injinjis, I never had a problem.
I love lifting weights and i love running. I feel like Hyrox is a pretty damn good challenge that combines both, so why not? I'm not going to be an Olympic athlete in either disciplines (as you said), but neither mostly of the people who hate on hyrox.
I’m always surprised with how many of these we agree on, and it’s about time someone called out US golf course running. Give me Parliament Hill any day. Well, maybe not any day.

My running medals are hanging on nails hammered into the wall - does that go into your bin? Great video, Phily. Made me laugh several times. Love the grind!
Strava AI: I'll be interested to see where this goes. At the moment you can see it's trying but it doesn't actually _understand_ training. My favourite comment from it was (paraphrased but the last bit is exact words)- "you went faster than usual, good job. But your run was shorter than usual, maybe you should work on endurance." I mean, it's not wrong in that I could always do with improving endurance. But maybe it's just me but I can't do both faster _and_ longer simultaneously... By the way, if anyone does the Berkeleys, surely that's the epitome of loving the grind?
The rise of actual good tasting non-alcoholic beer, wine, mocktails, etc. is a godsend. I LOVE alcoholic beverages, but the research is just so clear about how awful it is for you, and I love that more options are available on the market and they all taste so much better than they used to.
the water/fuel issue is always hilarious to me. if you're properly hydrated and carbed you're not going to bonk until you're like an hour and 45 minutes in unless you're really pushing the pace or running in heat
Ok in defense of hydration vests for shorter runs, it be like that in the U.S. south sometimes. You’ll wake up to 70 or 80 degrees F in the summer and it’s not fun 😂
I camped at the campgrounds in Frozen Head and was so stoked to run on the Barclay trail while there. Touch the arm there…. Will I ever attempt to actually do it, nope 😂

I used to have a wooden ski tip in the hallway of our old house, it had all the medals etc, but after the move it is all in drawer. What I don't have any longer (I'm 67) is knee cartilage & meniscus to avoid bone-on-bone pain while running, particularly downhill. :-( BTW, if anyone thinks just running (track/road/trail) can be boring, orienteering is by far the most interesting way to engage both the mind and the body. EDIT: Since you appreciate Jasmin Paris and her totally amazing BM finish, you obviously realize that being able to navigate while running is good!
Your comments about Hyrox made me spit out my drink with laughter 😂 if you ever posted that on IG you would have an army of enraged people! This video really made me laugh a lot. Thanks for deterring me away from a medal hangar... in the box they shall remain!
I’m here to defend American Cross Country. My senior year of high school we did a XC race in Hawaii. During race day it was raining off and on the and the course was all trail with thick grass and mud. There was a large hill on the course and during the downhill girls were falling and slipping in the mud and there was basically a giant clump of girls screaming and crying in the muddy Hawaiian rainforest. Personally one of my favorite races.
Love running in cities. Each new one I end up in, I lace up and go for an easy run. They're not all like London. Thoroughly enjoyed Porto and Budapest, for instance, and Berlin was also nice. Got me interested in armband HRMs. Will delve. Thanks for the sass!
5:00 love you for roadting HYROX. As an athletic but miniature guy (5'2", 1,57m) I'm supposed to do WHAT farmer carries??? As soon as they adjust weight based on one's own body weight I'd give it a try but they'll never do that 😅.
Haha legit thought of our TH-cam legend Mark Lewis when you came for the “Marks” Philly. He’s fantastic I’m subscribed to him too but that was too funny. I hope he sees this, I reckon he’d love it. Also so cool to come home to this; did my first trail marathon today and what a way to finish a great day!
I was staggered she said the words "sugar" and "good for you" in the same sentence. Getting a carbs/starchy boost after a serious run is absolutely 100% a necessity, but a refined carbs boost?? All you're going to do with that is crash in five minutes.
I think the general point that needs to be made is don't knock something till you try it. You may end up loving trail running in toe shoes and calf sleeves :)

I use them to avoid nettle stings and bramble scratches trail running. Socks don't cut mustard!😂
Glad this video was put in my recommended section. Will definitely watch more videos! From a running hobbyist!
toe socks for running are amazing if you are prone to blisters around the toes!
Love those toed socks. If I wear anything else, I get blisters. Absolute god-send
Yes, that's what I heard about these. So in that case PB material for you!
SAME! Started reading through the comments hoping to see others in my boat. Wearing anything but toe socks causes little blisters on the tips of my toes (and I've tried various shoes and the runner's lacing lock)
Thanks for the videos Phily - Love the Grind!
One of my favourite videos of yours yet 😂 for both Phily’s brutal yet factual opinions and Daniel’s edit!
The fact that my participation medal display is visible on Zoom is PURE COINCIDENCE 🏅
Same!!! 😂
Was poised over the unsubscribe button while she discussed triathlon!! Top video this, she’s great!
Triathlon is just the natural result of crosstraining for running just a tad too much.
Amateur triathlete is my whole identity. So glad she respects it. I of course would still watch her content because she is awesome, but spitefully.
New runner just starting out, this is great had me cracking up the whole time! 😂
I drink chocolate milk after every run and I love it! lol
Mark Lewis has a medal rack and loves hyrox 😂
I got the feeling, from his last few videos, that he's given all that up now though. He doesn't even seem to run much these days.
But he is in his fifties no?
Lost a lot of respect for him when he started using weight loss drugs.
40 male sitting here glad my medal rack fell of the wall the other day 😭
Humblebrag much? Haha
@@scriptosaurusrex 🤣
Don’t want to cause a war with trail runners, meanwhile Daniel sets the graphics 😂
I love how utterly unhinged you did this review 😂 Thanks for making me laugh as always, love the grind! ❤ Best from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
More of these please 😂 they're hilarious! Also looking forward to my PBRC t shirt
At the high school level, cross country can be a very muddy experience. The golf course thing is really centric to the college level
except for woodbridge lol
Toe socks rock if you have blister problems. I had to strap my toes in muddy XC races or they would get trashed. After starting using the injinjis, I never had a problem.
I love lifting weights and i love running. I feel like Hyrox is a pretty damn good challenge that combines both, so why not? I'm not going to be an Olympic athlete in either disciplines (as you said), but neither mostly of the people who hate on hyrox.
This was a lot of fun, even if I did disagree with a couple of things, great video! Running from London, and enjoying it 😅
Not everyone wants to be a top level bodybuilder/runner.
People can actually have goals to have both decent physique and cardiovascular health.
She's not very good at understanding people have different perspectives and backgrounds.
I’m always surprised with how many of these we agree on, and it’s about time someone called out US golf course running. Give me Parliament Hill any day. Well, maybe not any day.
The only one that really surprised me was the massage gun. In the bin without explanation? I love my massage gun.
its the same as foam rolling and she foam rolls lol
@@notarabbit1752 Nope, massage guns are proven to be much more effective. Foam rolling is still nice, but massage guns provide so much more impact and deep tissue massage.
Strava segments motivate me to run really painful hillsprints. I do it 60% for the training effect and 40% to get the segment.
Well done both ! Phily and Daniel..!! Raw, honest and funny
My running medals are hanging on nails hammered into the wall - does that go into your bin? Great video, Phily. Made me laugh several times. Love the grind!
Coming from the cycling world where sniping segments is typical; i will continue to plan an entire workout around doing it 😅
I run a 5k with a hydration vest because I live in Florida and don't feel like passing out. People can stay annoyed.
Strava AI: I'll be interested to see where this goes. At the moment you can see it's trying but it doesn't actually _understand_ training.
My favourite comment from it was (paraphrased but the last bit is exact words)- "you went faster than usual, good job. But your run was shorter than usual, maybe you should work on endurance."
I mean, it's not wrong in that I could always do with improving endurance.
So much fun watching it! Thank you.
Started wearing injinji toe socks eight years ago and never had a blister between my toe since, no matter the distance.
the water/fuel issue is always hilarious to me. if you're properly hydrated and carbed you're not going to bonk until you're like an hour and 45 minutes in unless you're really pushing the pace or running in heat
Ok in defense of hydration vests for shorter runs, it be like that in the U.S. south sometimes. You’ll wake up to 70 or 80 degrees F in the summer and it’s not fun 😂
Lmao I love this kind of sassy Phily. More pls
I camped at the campgrounds in Frozen Head and was so stoked to run on the Barclay trail while there. Touch the arm there…. Will I ever attempt to actually do it, nope 😂
First video I've ever watched of you, immediately a fan! Have heard of you through Kofuzi
Phily, love you. Love the grind. Two ageist comments. Giving me the ick.
Right! This video was not it
Yea did not like the condescending tone of those few comments, made her sound a bit smug and out of touch.
Never mind ...just keep enjoying your running, be proud of yourself & stay well.....👍👍👍🏃🏃
I love this video, simultaneously I feel attacked. Great combo, so I had to subscribe. Great Work!
I think we should start a petition for a video of you doing a triathlon 💁♂
I did cross country in high school here in Canada. And yes, while it was dry conditions, the finish line was at the top of a ski hill. By ski hill standards, it was a small ski hill, but having to climb straight up it twice. I’ll defend the American cross-country and I have almost literally died on that hill…
This is definitely one of my favourite videos you've put out - and I do Hyrox!
Laughed SO HARD at some of the hot takes! 😂 you’ll have to pry my medal rack full of half marathons out of my cold dead hands. Also so happy someone else is oddly obsessed with the Barklays marathons
I ran my first marathon (age 30) this weekend. Calf sleeves actually saved me so much pain. Same for toe socks!
Her last tier list is the first video of hers I ever watched. And now I drop everything whenever she posts. Very nostalgic.
Also thank you Phily for giving me permission to stop at traffic lights during runs. I always thought it was cheating so jogged up and down the road 😢
And thanks to this video I'm going to invest into a hydration vest. I'm training for my first half marathon (aiming for
Me too!
Same here😍😍
Great content Malfoy!
I used to have a wooden ski tip in the hallway of our old house, it had all the medals etc, but after the move it is all in drawer. What I don't have any longer (I'm 67) is knee cartilage & meniscus to avoid bone-on-bone pain while running, particularly downhill. :-(
BTW, if anyone thinks just running (track/road/trail) can be boring, orienteering is by far the most interesting way to engage both the mind and the body.
EDIT: Since you appreciate Jasmin Paris and her totally amazing BM finish, you obviously realize that being able to navigate while running is good!
Pls more of that😂😂 crying, laughing, dying on the floor
Your comments about Hyrox made me spit out my drink with laughter 😂 if you ever posted that on IG you would have an army of enraged people! This video really made me laugh a lot. Thanks for deterring me away from a medal hangar... in the box they shall remain!
Great choice of mug by the way. I literally got the same one this week. Great size holds perfect volume, would recommend. 16:29
3 photos in, love this already
Just have to share my excitement. Bought a vest 🎉🎉 love the grind
Absolutely loved this video! I have now removed my medal holder 😂
sniping segments is the best feature on strava 🤣 that's why they're there lmao
I’m here to defend American Cross Country. My senior year of high school we did a XC race in Hawaii. During race day it was raining off and on the and the course was all trail with thick grass and mud. There was a large hill on the course and during the downhill girls were falling and slipping in the mud and there was basically a giant clump of girls screaming and crying in the muddy Hawaiian rainforest. Personally one of my favorite races.
This is toooo funny - love it!!!😆 More sassy Phily please!🤭🤗
"I'm not a scientist. *no sh*t, Sherlock!* - Daniel, your editing always makes me laugh =D
I was fine till the medal rack lol
My office wall needed the decor haha
As someone who lifts and runs, aka eligibly "hybrid" - I totally accept that I am "bang average at both" 🤣💯
Haha legit thought of our TH-cam legend Mark Lewis when you came for the “Marks” Philly. He’s fantastic I’m subscribed to him too but that was too funny. I hope he sees this, I reckon he’d love it.
Also so cool to come home to this; did my first trail marathon today and what a way to finish a great day!
chocolate milk? i earned this treat...
So happy to see Flagstaff in the top tier!
This feels like part tier list part therapy session 😅
Decades ago we sometimes could choose whether we want a medal or not. It was cheaper without, and I don't need that anyway.
