For what it’s worth I’ve been sewing for roughly 40 years and was taught by my mother, who was an incredibly talented seamstress. I’ve made a shift recently from garment sewing to sewing accessories. I will also watch many tutorials on the same subject to gather bits and bobs on construction techniques. I’ve learned a lot from this video and would like to thank you for sharing your expertise!! ❤
@@vksdub7185No, you avoid sewing the the tabs at all cost. They is why she added the 1/8 turn of cloth. She will sew with a 3/8 seam and that 1/8 allows you to avoid hitting that tab. That total space was 1/2” only 3/8 of the 1/2 inch is sewn .
Myrna is there a reason why you cannot stitch the lining side down the same distance as the top side stitching ? That same area would be left free of the stitching .You would still have both seam area free. Have you ever had the lining get stuck in the zipper ?
I've been praying for a zipper fairy and now I've found you. Yes I make bags and pouches but you had tools I've never seen or used. The hammer 🔨 trick will be getting a workout.
It was the pleased little giggle and “I’m so proud of myself” at the end for me! 🤣😍I think we all felt that with you! So much work, but it really paid off. Now I wonder what my husband will think when I pull out the hammer when I start my next sewing project! 🔨😅 Thank you!
Thanks. I'm a huge believer in celebration. Everyone should have their own hammer. Go shopping. It's a fabulous section of Home Depot. SO MANY other things to look at too.
What a great teacher! Everything orderly, neat, with professional results at the end. Easy to understand, bright and uncluttered surroundings, no musical distraction, happy personality - I can’t wait to try this in the morning Myrna, thank you so much!
Thank you. I think it's rather pretty too. If you check the date of the video, you'll see it was made right at the beginning when I was very much in the learning stages. Since then, my video making skills have developed considerably. It's been a huge learning curve and I have a much greater appreciation for what is offered by channels.
@@InTheStudioWithMyrna I share the comment that it would be more effective if you made the video facing the camera, of course the way of applying the closure is excellent and looks super neat.
@anapittamiglio1228 I'm not making more videos, so this is it. Hopefully, there's enough that works. The whole process is not cheap, is very time consuming, and is a steep learning curve. You'll have read in my earlier reply that this one was made near my beginning.

So many of the irritating little things I’ve not been able to fix she showed me how to. And she’s too cute as well. Really truly recommend this video and learning from her. She’s a great teacher.
As a hardcore pouch addict, I can never get enough tips on creating the 'perfect' pouch, and your video is chock-full of great tips, thanks! (Now if I can only perfect my boxed corners, lol!)
In this video - th-cam.com/video/DYLeafavLMA/w-d-xo.html - I talk about how to get nice boxed corners. Practice is all it takes. You're welcome. Enjoy.
I like that cute little laugh at the end of the video and the "I'm so proud of myself"! Exactly how I feel when I finish a project. The fabrics used are gorgeous!
Woman, I love you! When you got out that hammer to pound out the bulk, I had to laugh out loud. You don’t know how much I can relate to the hassle of trying to sew over that area and to keep it even so that everything looks matched when you turn it back out. Thank you for all these wonderful, helpful hints!
In my quilting circle, I complain about how a quilt top, I had been given, was not lying flat. One member said pound it with a hammer. It made me smile when I heard it again from a professional.
Very clear. I agree with others that a clear voice with no distracting music is much more pleasant. You are also not wasting time showing how the machine sews. Instead, you explain the process. I have been sewing for 50 years or more and appreciate the precision.
Oh wow, I have been interested in sewing since I was a young girl (inspired by my mother, she used to make most of out clothes) but became interested in quilt making in my 40's, when I retired I thought I would make some pouches and became addicted, I have watched many youtube videos and still struggled a bit sewing nice zipper tabs, this is the best zipper tab tutorial I have watched, thankyou I am now going to make another pouch using your method, thank you

Bravo Myrna. I can't believe how much I picked up from this quick video. An explanation of why you're doing, what you're doing, is the glue that makes an idea stick and it's missing from just about every other tutorial I watch. It's nice to be reminded that taking your time and properly pressing out seams makes a huge difference in the finished product. My mother taught me that, but I got caught up in all the quick-make tutorials out there and have lots of wonky pouches to prove it. I never understood the significance of the texture change on zip tape. Thanks to you, I finally understand where I'm supposed to sew to get a good result on my zippers. Also love your idea of extending the tab length a bit so you have a launch and landing area for the presser foot.
THANK YOU. Your detailed feedback is fabulous in helping me share what I know... which is what I really want to do... to support and encourage other's creativity. I love how one idea leads to another and if we just follow the path, it's an adventure of learning and fun.
I have made many pouches but I learned several things about measuring, marking, reducing bulk and proper pressing. And you reminded me how nice Batik fabric works for linings because it’s thin, yet tightly woven and sturdy. Thank you. I’ll be following you from now on!😊

Yes... they were quilted. My background is in traditional quilt making and then textile art and I find those techniques showing up all the time. Thanks for subscribing.
Thank you for this. I have made lots of pouches and have been topstitching the main fabric and lining together, right across. They come out much better like this.
I was sailing along making pouches and began having bad zipper installations! Thank you , thank you for your instructions. Ther are hundreds of zipper pouch videos, that are a bunch of cutesy fluff rather than the technical details that you show. I really like that you lick your fingers and say.."gonna"--don't ever stop being yourself and take out those charming REAL parts of who you are when you edit. IF you remove those, you become a robot, and there are enough of those we can watch...they are boring as all get-out.

Thanks for this really detailed and informative video. Going to get my toffee hammer out.
You're welcome. Happy hammering.
LOL - boring, beige, normal, average... all words I hope never to have applied to me. Thank you for the encouragement. I will definitely take that to heart. Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it.

Thank you for a fabulous video. I love your attention to detail and look forward to the video on making the fabric. You have answered so many questions for me!
It would be wonderful if you could show yourself actually stitching and also if you could do close up shots when you are showing the fine details. Many thanks.
You're welcome. I'm planning the video on making the fabric for this Friday. This was one of my first videos. I was (and am still) in that difficult learning curve of beginning. If you look at some of my later videos, you'll see that I'm starting to get it and do include close up shots. I'll keep in mind these suggestions when I make the video. THANKS.
