Just wanted to echo what others have said and say this is such a great video. I especially liked how after you put tabs on zipper you showed placing zip on exterior fabric and instructing not to go end to end just from tab to tab. It made it easier to fold open seams and push tabs toward lining. Thanks “sew” much for taking the time-I wish I found you sooner!!

TWO hints to add. 1. If your reduce your stitch length to about 1 to 1.5 around the corners, you won't have all the starts and stops, when you're sewing around the curves. 2. If you use Pinking Shears to cut away the fabric on curves, (trimming) you don't have to be bothered with the laborious clipping of the curves. It ALSO reduces fraying of the fabric.

Rosie, I made these a long time ago from your excellent video, and they came out great! Now I just came back, and I was so rusty that because I didn't pay very close attention to the final sutures around the outside zipper areas (where the interiors and exteriors need to align perfectly), the bags came out a little imperfect. I see how important it is to fully follow what you say. That being said, the point here is that you have EXCELLENT instruction and pay close attention to the important details - not all videos for the same bag do that. Thank you! You are a PRO! Back to making more zipper bags.... but even better this time!!!

This has got to be one of the best tutorials I have ever watched. You guide the sewer through every detail carefully and precisely. Some of us are having to teach ourselves from scratch and are only able to operate a sewing machine at the minimum level, with many mishaps and seam ripping along the way. It took me a while, stopping and starting your video over and over moving between the computer screen and my sewing machine, but I managed to complete a project without a single hitch. You are a first class teacher. Thank you so much.

Oh so much information in such a simple tutorial!!! I learned: sewing around the zipper and zipper tabs instead of sewing end to end, opening up the seams before sewing all the way around the bag, pushing the zipper toward the lining, rounding the bottom corners instead of having to get those corners pushed out, not just clipping around the corners but also an easy way to open the seam with the tool and pressing!!! It was a very pretty outcome. I am one of those people that want to hand make a bag, but want it to look professional as well. Thank you :)

Hello, just a quick note to say 'Thank You'! I have had a lot of nervous reticence (paralyzing anxiety, really...) in creating a pillow case because the only zipper i could find is waaaaaaaaaay too long! (I don't sew that much so, no, I'm not buying a shorter zipper, leaving me with a long zipper I have no use for). Your tips and tricks are incredibly useful ❤

I'd like to add my thanks to you for this excellent video. I've been making pouches for sale for four years now (my retirement project), and I have struggled with zipper side dents on one particular item. My customers don't seem to care, but I've always been a bit embarrassed by the unprofessional look of dented sides. I saved this video to Pinterest some time ago and got around to looking at it last night. I've watched other videos and followed their instructions carefully, but I have never achieved the result I want. Finally, the method that works! As others have said, I appreciate your clear, precise instructions--with no unnecessary commentary--and great camera work. Thank you, Rosie. You have a new subscriber!

Very well done. I especially like how you pressed the pouch seams open at around 23 minutes.

Thank you for a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful zipper tutorial. Your instructions were clear, concise and informative. Also, the video presentation was perfect, clear, not jumpy and I like the fact that you did not speed through some of the videography. Thanks again!!!!!

In my opinion this is the best tutorial on mastering zipper tabs. Really helpful and cleat explanations. I especially like how you did not top stitch all the way to the end leaving the seam allowances at the end free to open. I always struggled a bit when sewing all the pieces together. Thank you so much.

THANK YOU SO MUCH... I made a comment about 4 weeks ago about how good your tutorial is but because I was going in to hospital I didn't get to test it. Now I have and I am absolutely thrilled, my make bags are brilliant now, no dents or anything that I'm unhappy with. So thank you, thank you and thank you for helping novices like me and increasing our confidence. Best wishes, Eva.

I have been making bags for only a few months and my zipper tabs said "beginner" by appearance. Your explanation makes so much sense. The next bag will be significantly better thanks to your explanation.

I love that you are sewing on the Janome M7 since that is the machine I have. I know that I can use the exact settings and feet that I see you using. It is so helpful...just like all of your videos.

I wish I'd found this before making my first bag this past weekend. I followed another tutorial and though I was pleased with the overall bag, I ended up with the creases this method avoids and set out to find an answer for next time. Your whole process will be my method of choice from now on. 🙏🏻

My machine has a setting that when you stop sewing the needle is down and foot stays down. I find this to be better for me and makes it easier to stop and make sure you don’t distort the corner. Nice treatment on the zipper. Thanks.

Thank you for this tutorial, all the careful camera work, the careful editing, and the careful audio instruction. I just finished making a small, crossbody iphone bag. It is a beautiful first effort, and I had you next to me on my ipad the whole time. The ONLY thing that came out wrong was my measurement for how much opening I would need for the phone to easily slip in and out of the pouch. The pouch is about a half inch too small at the opening, but damn, it's a beautiful pouch, and I'm now ready to make another with my new found confidence.

Thanks Rosie, like the other 500+ comments, you do an amazing tutorial. I see what I've not seen before, I haven't been pressing the seam allowance open at the tabs, omg what a flat finish.

Tip, baste your zipper ends prior to cutting them to size. Saves a lot of work.

    • @helenbeebe6561

Oops, that won’t work...sorry to say , I’d end up unable to use the pull.

    • @RosiesArtStudio
      @RosiesArtStudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว

You can pull the zipper pull in first below the line where you are going to cut the zipper and then baste the two ends together. Thanks for watching!
