  • Let's use some SCRAPS! EASY Scrap Stitch and Flip zipper pouch tutorial on Fabric Foundation ~ Use up your scraps with this super easy (and forgiving) method of piecing in this tutorial while you quilt as you go.
    Here is a link to zippers: amzn.to/3ooJG0R
    You can also search Amazon for "zippers in bulk" to find different sizes and different sellers.
    This scrap-busting piecing method is perfect for beginners. It will help you have success without the stress of matching seams.
    Here's what I used for this project:
    8.5" x 10.5" scrap of foam or batting for the foundation
    16" zipper
    5.5" x 9" piece of fabric for the bottom
    Assorted scrap fabrics
    Clips

    Super cute! I'd like to try it. I'm thinking I might take advantage of the fusible foam side to fuse one big piece of a busy print on opposite side, to kind of double as a lining while disguising the FPP-like stitches created from the right side of pouch. Hope that makes sense.

    I like to use the left over zipper to sew on loops to hang what I'm making, like a pouch or potholder. I also use these loops to put a key ring on or use alone as a place to hook my keys . Super cute when it's just one side of the zipper teeth. Just remove the stop bar and the zipper teeth are free to do what you want. Perfect width for loops. I have a lot of these so I can use different color zipper loops on the same project.
    Thanks for showing this version of a pouch, how clever

    They are so pretty. These would be good for keeping your scissors in. With the foam they would protect their tips. You could have a few for rotary cutter and spare blades, small notions, etc. Great also for using up odd pieces of left over foam. Just join them togeher and off you go. Love this idea.

      Here’s a tip: Smaller is not easier! I tried to do a 4” wide zip pouch as my first zipper project. It took far too long (hours). The next one I did, I used an 11” zipper with 9” wide fabric and had a much better experience. It took maybe 5-6 zippers and now I don’t think twice about them. They truly get easier with time!

    Great idea, thanks for sharing. Curious if you could do a video adding a lining though. I don’t like that the inside looks so unfinished. I would love these as gifts if I could line them.

    I'd definitely add a lining inside though because it looks unfinished when you look inside.

    A piece of solid cotton would have been a good idea to cover the foam and all that stitching on the wrong side . The foam with all the stitching shows and adds resistance to putting in and taking items out of the bag.

      Thanks so much for your suggestion. When I make a tutorial, I always think about what it is I want to teach. My objective for this video was to get people over their fear of zippers and I believe I achieved this goal. In another video, I show how to add a lining. I hope this shreds some light on my decisions. ❤️

    I look forward to seeing what you do with the Tilda bundles as I purchased one myself. I see a dresden if combined with a solid to break it up a bit. Again, look forward to your ideas.

    I was looking at the dark blue for the base and that dark yellow should have been a keeper….that is for me, not necessarily for others!

    Super cute! I didn't understand what you did with the zipper teeth to get the curved ends when sewing the side of the pouch. Could explain further? Thank you so much! 🌷

    • @SewtheDistance
      @SewtheDistance  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! No problem--when getting ready to sew the sides, turn the zipper teeth to be on the inside (facing down towards the body of the bag with the pretty fabric) and clip it like that. Then sew the sides. I hope this makes sense. Let me know if it doesn't. ❤️

    • @lisapalesch-hawk6627
      @lisapalesch-hawk6627 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you, so shift the teeth so they lay flat, then sew the seam?

    • @SewtheDistance
      @SewtheDistance  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, so they are flat and facing the inside. I have another zipper pouch tutorial coming out today where I show this in better detail. I hope it helps. I should have shown it more clearly in this video. ❤

    That was a cute little zipper pouch but I think I would want it lined I wouldn't want to put anything in it that then is going to be in contact with that backing. I would want some a solid piece of fabric on the inside so I was curious how you were going to put the lining in

    • @SewtheDistance
      @SewtheDistance  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks so much! Glad you mostly like this. I didn't add a lining in this one. I use it all the time and it is fine without a lining. I do have another video, however, where I do line a zipper pouch. Here's a link: th-cam.com/video/mMqaDU10w84/w-d-xo.html
