    I just purchased this rifle last month, I'm a prepper. I wasn't a air gun enthusiast. I came across this weapon on Utube, I watched all related videos on this rifle that I could find, It opened my eyes to a whole new sport of pcp airguns I never knew existed! Now I'm all in. I've added 3 air rifles to my arsenal. Including a airbow. But for a survival situation, when everything collapsed, ability to buy amunition confiscation of firearms, no power, lights out, and personal protection, the Seneca Aspen is perfect for me, sets ready next to my bugout bag!

    If you are starting from scratch. This is unbeatable. I purchased a Umarex Gauntlet and Kral puncher breaker from you,as well as the Hill pump. My 1st purchase was $800 plus with the Gauntlet, after the pump and scope. I wouldn't change what I did because I want more pcp rifles and will need the pump. ...But if all I wanted was a fine hunting pcp, this is exactly what I would buy. I will probably purchase this anyway, just for the convenience in the field. Thanks. It's a great time to be into air guns. I remember the Daisy Powerline, as a youth. ....This is that on steroids, for a grown man.

      With a pump, how many pumps does it take to go from empty to 3000 psi in your guns?

    After seeing what the Aspen can do, I gotta get me one. No need for a tank or pump and still very accurate, it's a win win.

    Great video Travis! I bought one a little while ago from AOA. It is the best bang for the buck right now. You were spot on in your assessment of this gun. So many options for tuning and the accuracy is really amazing for the price. You got some fantastic groups out of it!

    I see a LOT of negative reviews mainly pertaining to faulty pump...seems like a giant hassle to get it repaired when the pump does eventually fail within a few months of regular use...if they get the pump sorted out and make it more reliable, it definitely has potential...maybe use standard filling options and only use the pump on an as-needed basis and it will probably last a good bit longer

  • @JoshuaC0rbit

    I've had one in 22 for a few months now and have put about 600 pellets through it. As the video shows it is boringly accurate and very powerful. Pumping it up is not a chore at all and I get mine pumped up to full fill without even breaking a sweat. Another bonus is it comes with a single shot tray and the magazines are standard issue for the Benjamin Marauder. Mine likes the plain old Crosman domed magnums. The trigger is excellent as is the cocking arm. It feels very well-made which surprised me.

  • @stoncrop

    I bought this gun for the pump and got so much more. It is my first and only PVP. I have 3 springers and the Aspen is so much quieter than they are. I was surprised when I heard that it was on the medium loud side. As for accuracy, yes it is deadly accurate. Several critters can attest to that. Well, they could attest to it if they were still able to attest to it. I love it.

    • @wolfenstein6676

      With the original release of this air rifle the pump would fail and the gun would have to be shipped back to the seller for a replacement. However, I've heard that this is no longer the case and the pump problem has been solved. Would you let me know if you have any problems with your gun, please, Stoncrop?
      Here's the problem I was refering to: th-cam.com/video/yYjmoIOB6y0/w-d-xo.html

      @@wolfenstein6676 Yes, I was aware of this problem when I bought it but not everyone had that issue so since I wanted it that bad, I bought it. I have not had any problems with the pump yet. Sometimes it doesn't appear to be pumping up the chamber when use the pump but eventually it seems to take hold and up it goes. I make sure to keep it lubricated. I will add that I bought a reconditioned Aspen and that may be a good thing in this case as Seneca would have fixed issues when they had it. Also, it was cheaper at the time. I've since looked on line and saw that for some reason the reconditioned rifles cost more than a new one. Go figure.

    I own this gun and I LOVE IT. purchased my "Nova Freedom" from American Tactical, it's the same gun. Chinese rebrand, but so far it's fantastic. works as advertised, if not better. although it does take about 35 pumps to get to optimal pressure, it's powerful, accurate, and the bolt action is smooth.

    Thanks for a nice in depth report on what looks to be a very well thought out gun. Great entry level PCP with no need to buy a pump or extra tanks. Having control of fill pressure, transfer port size and hammer spring tension should help one tune for accuracy with a number of different pellets. If I did not have access to a compressor or pump this would definitely be a good choice.

    I think it’s meant to fill up with a hand pump or tank, and the pump on the gun is meant to top it off every 8-12 shots depending on caliber. You don’t wanna wear out those valves by pumping it 60-70 times and generating insane amounts of heat. You have to keep it lined too I hear. I ordered one, I’m excited to see how it holds up. If quality control is mastered they have a game changer.

    Looks like something I can ask SWMBO for my birthday. There are a myriad of things I like about this rifle. The first is price. I am not that wealthy for me to afford a mortgage for a high dollar rifle and all the accessories to buy just to be able to shoot. .22 cal is fine for me around where I live but I would like to see this offered in .25. This should be quiet enough for the back yard and good enough to teach my grand children how to handle guns safely. Great job on the review.

    I am super jazzed about this rifle. I can't believe it's at a $400 price point. I have been saying for years that somebody needed to take the daisy 880 and Beef It Up. I am super impressed with the velocities that this gun is getting. I've been looking for something to replace my Gamo Hunter Extreme SE in 22 caliber. It is a beautiful rifle and deadly accurate at 50 yards..... But they put the world's worst trigger in it. One of these days I will replace it with a Charlie D tuna trigger... But like all Magnum springers.... It takes a lot of focus to shoot well.
    Anyway..... Out of all the budget pcp's that have come out recently.... This one wins hands down.

      man that gamo hunter extreme is one bad ass rifle you can use it for hoggs ,predators,and possibly dear at 25 yards with heavier pellets !!!! awesome rifle !!! this thing"ASPEN" is just a little slower but the advantages are out of this world !!!

    • @fred9532
      @fred9532 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine is pretty old, made in Spain. I believe I got it in like 1996-98. The stock trigger was horrible, but the aftermarket trigger, from Airguns of Arizona made it a very nice rifle. It's true two stage and very adjustable. The .177 is a very flat shooter. The $35 trigger upgrade is very much worth the price. Easy to install.. That new Aspen looks like a good choice to leave overseas where I spend a couple months out of the year. He was shooting groups as good as my Fx Crown m Impact, and AA s510 .25 do. Very little difference at the 35 yard range. That will be a very good rat rifle, if it holds together ? I tried ordering a Charlie D Tuna trigger , but they never got back to me online. I got the AOA and it's magnificent, and I am a trigger snob.

    Nice gun and it shoots excellent. Why is it when a new gun comes out, ok not brand new. The snobs have to bash it? FX isn't the only gun in the world that's nice and well built. I'm not saying that this is an FX by any means, but there are a lot of nice guns out there that don't have to cost you an arm and leg to enjoy. Isn't that what it's all about, having fun? I'm just venting because of the the snobs that try and compare FX GUNS to any sub 1500 dollar gun. It's 400.00 get over it and let the average joe enjoy the PCP world. Thanks for the review of a nice entry level PCP air gun.

      Sometimes when people get the luxury of only getting the best from get go only know what they know I guess. I myself like many others buy the average guns like a BOX store gun at Walmart is how I started. From that point I can only dream of owning something with all that Hype that people talked about . I never, would of thought I purchase something like an "FX'. UNTIL one day I found a deal I couldn't pass up. I got a 400 ROYAL used, but in beautiful condition for a mere 800 bucks . And I'm here to tell yea it is certainly a dream to shoot. But I still play around with sub 200 dollar guns only cause I'm not afraid the bash them about when outside hunting. I really like this concept, but I've been kinda reluctant on buying it cause I've seen several if not more, complaints about the gun . Being sent DOA.to purchasers. I'm quite amused buy its accuracy also. Would like to see it tested at the 50 & 100 yard mark also. Preferably in 25 cal. I hope this gun gets its issues fixed too. Now Back to FX, if you think there flawlessly trouble and trouble free think again . Even the IMPACT series came with a boat load of issues. And for a 2000.00 dollar gun you can bet that the company is going to address it quickly. However there are plenty of good shooting rifles for any price point now days. If you got time look at videos of a gentleman out WEST . He is in the middle of providing some interesting, called a JSAR RAPTOR for about 1100.00 bucks and I could very well be a heavy competitor to a FX. NOT ONLY IN PERFORMANCE but price and power also.

    I've got one. Unbelievably accurate.on Low power I get 2 mags plus 4 more for a total of 20 shots. Usually the 20th shot has very little power or accuracy. I love the gun. the first time I only pumped it 50 times after that it needed 60 to 70 for a full charge. I find myself shooting a ton of pellets because of how fast it shoots. I have 3 other rifles a .177 a .25 and a .30 brake barrel and this gun is the most fun. It doesn't take to long to go through 2 mags so I find myself pumping a lot. Good work out. I don't think I will be messing around with scuba tanks and compressors which are going to end up costing more then the guns themselves. The double air charging idea is on the surface a good idea but it means more can go wrong.i had a Crosman pump up rifle, can't remember what model it was but at 10 pumps it sent the .177 pellets down range at about 750 fps, and that pumping was hard work.

    It would be nice to do some 50 yard targets using the shoot three shots and then pump it back up. That way as you said the fps spread would be less showing the best accuracy potential. Also most airgunners think 50 yards is the standard distance to test PCP accuracy.

    @johnswoodgadgets9819 ปีที่แล้ว

    This concept makes sense. At the end of the day, you have to convert X amount of mechanical energy to X amount of air pressure at a given volume. No getting around it, it has to come from somewhere. Might as well be self-contained, and maintained a little at a time as you deplete it a little at a time. The biggest challenge in air gunning is getting satisfactory consistent power, and to do that with traditional PCP you have to go 'off gun'. (Pumps, compressors, scuba bottles etc.) It is like owning a pet hamster. The hamster itself is straightforward enough, but all the accessories to keep it well and happy will drive you nuts and drain your bank account. Not to mention the time, space, and maintenance all that stuff takes up. I'm sorry, but it had to be said and it is the truth. This concept solves a lot of those problems. The rifle seems to be a fine specimen of a brilliant concept.

      The barrel is shrouded, which helps reduce the sound, and as far we know there aren't any silencers available for it. Something could possibly be made. The gun comes with a fixed 4x AO scope, but for testing we used a Hawke 4-12x50 Vantage scope.

      In PCP that use hammer system, the tank which store high pressure air will release air into chamber when the valve assembly is hit (and hold open) by hammer. Aside from valve spring, the valve is also pushed from the tank side by the air pressure.
      In rifle with rather weak hammer spring (or too hard valve spring), the extra pressure from tank can cause the valve to close sooner, which release less air. Sometimes overfilling cause valve lock (i.e.the hammer can't push open the valve at all)
      I think here the curve is more pronounced because the aspen tank is small volume.

    • @nmarbletoe8210

    I wish you would make a video on how to tune this air rifle. It's too bad that is not available in .25, and regulated. Having a built in air pump, wouldn't it be subject to wearing out of the seals at a fast rate where they have to be replaced often?

    • @markcouch4235
      @markcouch4235 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is also available in .25
      With this gun, you are the regulator. Find the sweet spot in the psi range, and give it several pumps after every few shots and just stay in that zone. This also keeps the pump from getting overheated pumping from zero to completely full in one go.
      The provided silicone oil is key, and pump slowly

    • @airgundepot

      @paulgreen2416 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don't waste your money. I have the UK legal sub 12 ft lbs version known as the Nova Vista.
      It's heavy, the stock is a cheap plastic affair which consists of 3 pieces, the pump handle locking button disengages at the slightest knock, so no carrying the rifle by it as you would expect you'd be able to, the pump handle twists when in use causing the handle end to catch the stock causing damage, if you don't do a full range of movement pump of the onboard pump it gets an air lock and refuses to budge from a 45 degree angle without some serious persuasion and the general feel to the rifle is cheap and nasty. I have numerous other rifles which I'm a capable hunter with but with the nova vista I couldn't hit a damn thing. Then, not even after 9 months in which time I took good care of it it decided to spring a leak from the seal joining the air cylinder to the action. No biggy I thought as it's an easy fix. Oh how wrong was I. SMK who manufacturers these rifles for the UK saw fit to put an anti tamper bolt in to prevent removal of the air cylinder!? And due to quarantine etc SMK are only doing warranty repairs which I should have been covered by but the email address provided in the info booklet was non existent so by the time I'd researched and found out SMK were the manufacturers the warranty had run out. 😤
