Thanks for the great demonstration of terminal ballistics, Matt. I really appreciate that you are openly learning along with your audience, including the consequences of close proximity to a high speed projectile impact when your 22-250 wreaked havoc and clay on everything nearby. I'm sorry to hear about the political chicanery in South Africa and the possible consequences to land owners. It sounds potentially dangerous. Stay safe, my friend. Jess
The South Africans are of the tribe of Asher of Israel. As are the Israelites who founded the United States- Ephraim, the suffering is because of a disdain for Leviticus 23. So Deuteronomy 28: 15 - , is in effect Today.
Easy to explain why the high power guns produce less penetration: because their pellets fly at a high speed, they mushroom much more, therefore creating a huge wound cavity and much less penetration. You know why I like your vids so much? Because the pleasure and skill you show whilst explaining and shooting are genuine. And its contagious.
Matt you are a force of nature! Such an Engineer and very generous for sharing so much quality research. And your video quality, editing, audio-clarity, etc is exceptional! To top all this off, you seem to just be a genuine fellow-- a friend to any good soul. Heck, even my wife thinks your cool! When I finally can set funds aside for my first PCP, it will definitely be whatever model you favor at the time. Rock On Brother!

Obviously we all love your higher budget productions, but I miss videos like these. Just a guy with a camera running some sort of test and reporting on it.
Nice video! I really hope you can test some .177 expanding pellets. In my own experience the .177 crosman hollowpoint and the .177 H&N Hunter extreme both expand 100% of the time in clay. I tested them at 25 yards from a 16fpe Gamo Whisper Fusion.
Would have loved to see a test of one particular type of pellet or even all of the types across the different muzzle energies for a standardized test of muzzle energy versus terminal performance. Great vid nonetheless
Very informative. I always enjoy your videos. This one was special in that you showed us a broad profile of pellet performances. The 22-250 was a nice touch as well.
Thanks for sharing . I have to say I'm amazed at the price of some of these pellet guns . I think the most expensive gun I own is a Brown bess and it is only a little over a grand . And it's a fire arm . The impact sells for 2 grand . That's crazy . Not being judgy or anything just found it humorous is all . Keep up the awesome videos.
Great educational video would love to see the same kind of video but then more on the effects of different calibers on clay ... like the different pattern in the target between a .22 and a .25 and up
AirArmsHuntingSA Thanks Matt. I have an X barrel to be delivered today that I will try to get the 25 caliber 34gr MKII pellets shooting well out of my Wildcat. I need to find a good velocity where I don't get pellet wobble. I have a Huma regulator installed. Would you be able to recommend a reg pressure and velocity for me. My email is sheepdog8117@yahoo.com if you'd like to keep comments private. Thank you.
AirArmsHuntingSA Thank you!! My X barrel just got delivered. I will adjust the reg pressure to 150 and do some Chrono testing with HS adjustments.....thank you Matt.
You should have kept with the same type of pellets to make it a fair comparison. As expanding pellets are going to obviously create a far bigger entry hole.
i would have liked to see you use a 22rimfire would have been a better comparison than the ctr fire. having said that it was very informative. Keep up the the great videos
Yeah, I'd like to see a clay comparison of same power fire vs air! . Put up 22lr, 22 shorts, and 22cb caps, vs the same power airguns. The 22 CB caps are similar to my breakbarrel airgun in 22 (~25 vs 30 fpe). I'd love to see if the clay damage is the same! . He had two guns that rated about like the 22 shorts (70 fpe) and 22lr (150 fpe). .
Nice video Matt. Can you do a similar video using the same gun, barrel and power, but with the different pellets. Using the new FX Smooth Twist X barrel.
I would LOVE to see the FX Wildcat MkII vs your AA Ultimate Sporter using the same pellets. If your FX sponsorship does not allow it, how about an unofficial unlinked video? When I saw this video I really hoped to see a bit more of the ultimate sporter extra fac.
Matt do you have, or are you making a video on the Boat tail vs. flat slugs? Also accuracy of the slugs at distance? What twist rate is the slug "X" barrel?
Not surprised with the .22-250 - in your "Enter the .22-250" video at the Oxwagon Camp, the ground squirrels you were shooting practically exploded on impact! Would love to see more varminting action featuring it. Also excited for your slug and barrel development; it truly would be a step up for long range airgunning and hunting, and I cant wait to see your setups and the results it brings (I could see it kicking up a fuss if you place well using it at EBR). I remember being teased with the Crown shooting the slugs in one of your Oxwagon Diaries videos recently, and have been itching to know more ever since!
Aww, spoilsports. Maybe they'll allow them when slugs become more widespread and readily available and don't require hyper-adustable guns like the Crown or Impact to shoot. I understand the desire to keep the barrier for entry low. The hunting potential is still more than enough to get excited about! Thanks for the relpy and great video as always, looking forward to see more videos (Vapour Trails hype!)
By any chance do you happen to like the FX Impact? LOL Can't wait to see what you and Ted come up with. (Nope! Not saying what for anyone else.) Oh! Bet mom is gonna be expecting a nice new table really soon! I wouldn't want to be you having to clean your Sony! LOL Love watching the videos that you and Ted make!

Hey Matt The video is great. At the end of the video you show all the bullets, I would like it if you shot the V0 and BC for everyone, that would be great information….greetings Rick......
Great video! Especially liked the surprise at the end. Vmax bullets are the best for coyotes here in the south plains of Texas. Never had a pass through nor get away. Shoot 55gr in all 3 .223s. Velocities from 2860 (16.1” AR and bolt) to 3180 (22” bolt). About to get into the PCP world and all the pellet info is greatly appreciated! Keep up the good work!
Excellent as usual Matt. I use the Predator Polymags in my Whisper G-2 (.177). Varmint accurate and Deadly at 25 years or so and I have tried others too. Interesting to see the expansion. They are very clean versus the Pro-Magnums that blow out of small prey,
Thank you for your informative video. Instead of the 226 cal fire arm try 22 ICI CB caps (if you can find them) in stralia. More fun less noise and damage.
As you bought the clay mixed from home it was settled and hard for first gun, as you shot and mixed after the shot the clay became soft. For just fair play should have a shot again in last with the first gun. Great to watch 👍
Great video Matt. Back to the basics of shooting stuff to see the resulting damage.... We've all shot a bull/cow turd right, to see what a pellet does to it ?? Nice one mate, very entertaining :)
If you are going to compare Air Guns with Firearms you should have used .22lr Nonetheless I appreciate the time you have put in to this. Thanks for the upload.
just wondering if you used the same block of clay and resquared it? as i am wondering about the small pockets of air that would then make up the structure and absorb impact as the projectile enters the medium, (thinking water? dont know why) the speed and weight of the pellet obviousley has an effect as the cavitation ( wound channel ) suggests, so a couple of anomalies the altered structure of the clay , the absortion rate of small pockets of air, weight of the pellet against a comaparatively larger target, and the expansion rate of the head of the projectile, ( mushrooming), this latter point also asks questions about the density of the head of the projectile, great video lots of things to think about , keep up the great work and fantastic videos ,

Sweet airgun! I have no experience with them personally, but with get a NF scope thats meant for large caliber rifles to shoot great distances for a airgun?
This guy is right about the fps cap of airguns. Even the bigger bore PCP airguns shoot at similar velocities. I think one of the common .50 cal has 92 foot pounds. But it fires around 500 or 600 fps depending on the weight of your round. So it's similar muzzle velocities in a scaled up round.
