Zanac looks like your typical corrupt prince in appearance but even thou he desires power he truly cares and loyal to his family's kingdom

The way Zanac was betrayed was so despicable that even Ainz, someone with emotion suppression on auto, couldn't stop his fury showing up for someone outside of Nazarick. I read the LNs first and reading that part really made me stop feeling any bad for any of them at all and actually wish for them "to stay alive in Nazarick" which...you know what that means.

The light novel describes Zanac fighting as “imitating how he saw his dead older brother swing a sword once” as he had no experience fighting ever…

Zanac gained my respect in only a matter of minutes. He knew he was gonna die, so instead of begging Ainz for mercy, he simply asked why

The betrayal by those nobles is one of the most stupid and despicable actions you'll find in any series. Even though Zanac was unable to get Ainz to accept their surrender he won something that nobody else could've. He earned Ainz's respect and as a reward Ainz promised that he would give them all gentle and painless deaths which was better than nothing. But because they betrayed them not only did the nobles suffer a fate worse than death, most of the remainder of the kingdom died painful and brutal deaths. They should've just died honorably on the battlefield because, at the very least, it would've ended quick and painless

The saddest thing of all is that Zanac was actually able to impress Ainz to the point after the meeting that Ainz was seriously considering accepting the surrender appeal, and then the idiotic nobles had to give him Zanacs head in a vain attempt to appease him.

Crazy how ainz respected him soo much that he called him as the best example of what a true king is.

Don't reward anyone who betrays royalty; it creates a dangerous precedence.

The corrupted kingdom meet its end because of the nobles. They made Ainz disgusted by seeing their nature. I feel bad for Gazef and Brain being part of that nation.

You know you did something unforgivable when Ainz of all people is disgusted at what you've done

He promised Zanac's army a swift death, he upheld that promise, those guys just decided they weren't part of Zanac's army anymore.

When the cowardly nobles rode up to present Zanec's head to Ainz, he was sitting on his throne trying to figure out a way to minimize the loss of life in the Kingdom without appearing weak in front of his Guardians. Zanec had convinced him that there was no need for unnecessary suffering, but Ainz is TERRIFIED of the Guardians learning that he isn't as all-knowing and all-powerful as they see him and abandoning him entirely, leaving him alone in the world.

Zanacs character arc is completely underrated on my opinion, when we first saw him he seemed like the stereotypical cowardous snobby out of touch royal who didnt care about his people and only cared about gaining power for his own end and obsessed with his own image. But the over time we see the change in him and how by the end i felt really bad and saddened by his death as he showed us that he did care for his kingdom and you can see his frustration and sadness that he couldnt save it.

I think the point of this part of the story is that people value different things. I assume you noticed by now the word "Betrayal" is quite nuanced. Ains admires principles. Gazef, Zanack, Unglaus, Ranposa, Renner, Raevan, Blue Rose have principles. Yes Renner too because in her mind she had never belonged to the Kingdom. She offered her allegience to Nazerick to achieve what she wanted. She's loyal to that. Raevan is loyal to his son. Blue Rose follows Lakyus because they are friends. Gazef followed Ranposa to the end. Zanack is loyal to the Kingdom. A little too loyal because he stayed despite watching Ranposa push the Kingdom to destruction because of his loyalty to Gazef. Ains even respected Neia Baraja's loyalty even though she made him uncomfortable.

The scary thing about this is you can literally see Ainz just fed up with the nobles. He was always acts kingly in front of others especially in guardians. But when they gave Zanac's Head, he didnt keep up appearances anymore in front of them. He just grumbly walk to the throne and sit like a freaking delinquent even in front of the guardians. The scariest thing about this is it didnt reach his emotional barrier... He just didnt care anymore. Hed just make his guardians do whatever they please in the most painful way possible. I think this is more scary than when he got angry at foresight.

I seriously was surprised that he is genuinely care about his kingdom, I was expecting him to do typical begging or surrender so he can be safe when having conversations with ainz and also him dying was a complete surprise to me too since I was expecting a huge one sided battle

I already know Zanac was good king when his able to see how crazy his sister was when everyone around her couldn't he also knows she is the smartest in the whole kingdom when he always asks for advice when his in a difficult situation

It's also implied that after the meeting with Zanac Ainz was starting to ponder if full extermination was the way

Very sad indeed also I've read this somewhere before if Ainz didn't isekai to this world Zanac would've been a great king to his kingdom
