There was such depth and nuance, and in creating such a complex persona, you truly never knew what to expect from Arthur. That is what it made him truly powerful and sinister. Lithgow even managed to make him a sympathetic character at times, one who had a deep pain due to the events of his childhood. If there's any justice, John Lithgow will sweep the awards season for this remarkable role.

If you want more of the "psychotic" side of Lithgow, then I'd recommend the forgotten thriller "Ricochet" from '91, also starring Denzel Washington.
