I know right. He said the blue doesn't go with the car and proceeded to make them a little less blue. The red callipers still clash with the rims. And Honda logos
Plus he took advans with original finish, and now they're refinished wheels. Bit of a head scratcher. I think the correct move would have been to keep the original advan blue wheel color, but refinish the calipers. Likely would have been cheaper too.

@@LMFAO5001 that’s like a branch but whether it’s hdpe or pe or pp or glass flilled or just trade name dow chemical derived for Honda. So lots of stuff that’s not dense and stuff that’s super dense that’s all plastic

That's how I feel about my 2018 GTI. Running 323whp and 368trq. Great daily driver, I easily get mid 30s MPG on road trips. Practical, comfy, perfect for me.
Time to sit down with my coffee, and watch my adult Saturday morning cartoons😁 edit: Car looks great now btw. I wasn't a fan of the blue rims. The lip and skirts have a nice, subtle oem+ look👍
you left out probably the most important part of the PWR intercooler, its a tune and fin core, which in addition to being light does a good job of letting air through it to also cool the radiator behind it. The super heavy bar and plate cores most of the other competitors use suck at letting air through. so your engine might be getting cooler air, your coolant gets even hotter than it did with the stock intercooler (also tube and fin)
I have Aphantasia, so my brain can't imagine or retain images. To me, without a side by side, your wheels have NOT changed at all. They are just more sparkly lol. 😂
I appreciate the fact that the back of the wheels were kept clean during the powder coating process. I've seen too many wheels where that isn't done which leads to vibration on the road and the powder coating needing to be removed from the contact surface which could lead to other problems if the person removing the powder coating gets too aggressive.
if my wheels were being painted i'd stop the guy after they were stripped of old paint and asked if that natural color could be clear coated. also the new paint still looks funky and toyish
One of the few automotive channels on YT where I don't mind the background music. The background music was what got me hooked to G&G ever since the US cross country road trip!
Went to the comments to see if I was crazy thinking that the wheels are practically the same after the powder coating… happy to see I’m not the only one lol
Came to the comments to hate on the new wheel color but I actually like them now. The gunmetal looks great. I would’ve polished or chromed them but looks great. Should still do a sticker on them though
Can dynos be calibrated? I work in an industry where even 1% error (sometimes even .1% error) would be entirely unacceptable, so hearing that there's 10% error and everyone is fine with it blows my mind. Granted there's not much risk to people's safety if your dyno isn't reporting exact, so the expense to calibrate it might not be considered worth it.
@@Maaaaaax-07 Yeah, I'm guessing all this shop is doing is just looking for changes in HP and torque, not the absolute value of it. For that, an uncalibrated system probably works fine for them. To answer your question, I work in aerospace testing and instrumentation.
Yes they can but there's so many different standards for horsepower measurement there's no way of knowing who's got theirs set to what. Of course it's not a ruler though it's a tool for quantifying change so ultimately the end number is meaningless to us fuel injection calibrators. Try and explain that to consumers though lol.....
@@dat_bouy Crank horsepower has to be extrapolated from a wheel horsepower figure on a chassis dyno. Nobody uses flywheel horsepower on a chassis dyno for that reason... it's far less consistent.
Should have just clear coated the wheels after they came out of the acid. Raw aluminum would look way better than this darker blue. I get you wanna avoid bronze (idk why) but blacks, blues, purples don’t really belong on a white car with red accents. Thems the rules. Wrap the car yellow, powder coat the calipers blue or black and then that wheel color will work. Take it from me man. I got my Jeep pearl blue and its trim level put orange accents everywhere. Really nice color combo. Except for the black wheels. Couldn’t stand em. I went and painted em white and it really made my Jeep pop. Follow the color wheel rules, it works for a reason.
First half of this video tripped me out because the wheels went from blue, to slightly darker blue. Which seems like a lot of money and effort, but I digress... As for the power level, 300ish to the wheels in a FWD is a great all around spot to be, but those new Type Rs are so heavy, even a Cobalt SS can walk away from them at the same power level. This being the case, I strongly suggest pushing it up to 400-450whp at least, to give it a fighting chance at being more than every other intake/exhaust/tune "build." That was what I honestly expected out of this video when you've been saying, "we're going to add power!" It implies, more than stock 😅 Still very excited to see this type R in the practical hands of G&G and to see how she holds up during the roadtrip!
Why would you buy expensive wheels and then paint them black, not to see the design of the wheels? Should've went with any other color, not black. Black is not a color, it's an absence of color
Pwr for short ben so far: didnt cool as expected and wa sinnpart responsible for blowing the k-series, weight save option that added weight. Im very excited for the comeback😂
Ben, with the right modifications and e30 tune you’ll hit over 500whp on stock trans and motor with a bigger turbo. The K20c motor has proven to be very reliable with all that power… just sayin 🤷🏽♂️
A lot of people are complaining that this new color still looks kinda blue, but I think it is perfectly fine; it is a lot more sophisticated blue. Or maybe it looks blue because of reflection or even camera color correction. But yeah, it looks sophisticated, and the shades of blue seem to change in different environments as well.
I'm sure in person it's a lot more different. But on the old TH-cams the rims just look darker. But I can understand if blue is what you originally wanted so going a little darker I get it. I like them I can dig it also I really like how Honda did that intercooler
On modern cars like this you tend to only make it worse after this point. Once you address obvious weaknesses (cooling) you will for sure compromise more than you will improve. It's spot on, leave it alone.
I'm glad i wasn't the only one that also thought the wheels went from blue to blue. seeing the paint stripping process was awesome but the rest of the video was pretty meh.
Just when I think you guys are more squared away than your reg car human, you throw some crap lugs on those dope ass wheels. Faith restored. Keep goin!
ben, for increased reliability you should look for some kind of billet block and head to make sure that you dont crack the block, 310whp might be to much for the stock botom end so forged piston and rods whould be nice
I like the new blue wheels better than the other blue wheels, lol. Also, maybe it's just me but I'd visit another dyno just to be certain, the baseline seemed way off from the start.

I love how the wheels went from blue to blue!!!!
😂
Am i blind or is that thing still kinnnnnnda blue
Def has some blue undertones, kinda like Honda’s old Nighthawk Black Pearl which shines blue in the sun.
Its still bluuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuue

Personally I would have changed the color of the brake calipers. The red is what seems out of place imo
Blue to a darker blue🤔

The black wheels look the same as when the blue ones were dirty 💀, bronze is easily the best combo for this color scheme

They same same
I would have gone gunmetal with some silver metal flake in it.
Is it just me or did he just go from ocean blue to like midnight blue or is that the camera doing its colour correction
The new rim color is a sidegrade at best.
agree...almost look blue again in some light, just more glitter.

Cool wheel prep process... but do all those chemicals just get rinsed into the environment? No collection and disposal?
What do you expect of a dude in a garage. No accountability.
He did a good job in my opinion, but it really seems that he didn't try to prevent the chemicals from going into the ground

I noticed the same thing! Paint stripping chemicals just running down the driveway into the sewer!
The stripper he is using is 100% biodegradable so its safe for the ground. Most powder companies the powder itself is also biodegradable
