How to Bench Test a Motherboard and CPU

- Today I'm going to show you how to test your new motherboard and CPU. Its always a good idea to test your new system outside of the case before you install it. So we are going to do just that.

It is great that you showed the problem with the monitor being in the wrong (digital) mode as the reason for the BIOS screen not being displayed. I notice that you sometimes show mistakes on other videos, as well, and I am glad that you do not cut them out of the video. This is a great learning tool as everyone makes mistakes at some time and learning from these mistakes leads to greater understanding and enhanced troubleshooting skills.
In the middle of getting the parts together for my first custom pc build can’t believe this isn’t talked about that much . Got the mobo and psu coming in next week already got the cpu and gpu gonna test out the shits asap appreciate you

Very nice video. Thank you. Allow me to provide 2 tips :
1. I don't recommend to use the thick styrofoam as a testbed since it can create static electricity which is not good for the memory and motherboard. It is better to use the cardbox of the motherboard itself. It will also allow you to easily insert video card if needed when you position the board at the edge of the cardbox.
2. When you insert the cpu to it's socket, Push it gently from above with your finger WHILE closing the lever (Especially with AM4 sockets. With LGA socket it doesn't matter). This way it will sit better in it's socket.
1.) The pad I use is non-conductive. I believe I mentioned that in the video.
2.) If you push down on the CPU make sure to clean the CPU because the oil in your fingers can effect thermal compound efficiency. You shouldn't have to use any force to insert the CPU into the socket unless you have bent pins. It should go down with gravity.
@@CyberCPU Looks like you might be using an antistatic polyethylene foam pad (usually pink in color) and is used to protect electronics from static charge buildup
@@snmadison it's a pad I've literally been using for over 20 years. I got it from a computer store I worked at in 1999.
@@CyberCPU One time I broke a $300 motherboard because a cable wasn't long enough and another time something I did to my bro's PC made it catch fire (i was doing stuff with the molex cables and put a black wire in a white plastic plug where there wasn't one before) I learnt from my mistakes though and the last PC I built is still working fine many years later. :3
I have always used an anti static wristband and a mat both earthed to the UK earth pin with a dummy mains plug which only connects to the earth pin.
If you connect a small speaker to the speaker jumper on the motherboard, you'll here the beep. Some motherboards have a built in speaker right on the motherboard. Also the number of POST code beeps will tell you what's wrong.

Hey, it's funny but during my i7 9700k build I really did the same checking before going custom loop and you know what? PC posted ok but when I finished build it was bsod on windows startup. CPU was faulty... There was a happy ending because shop accepted it one month after buing and exchange it to i9 9900k without any extra money, but it cost me alot of stress.

I have a streamer with an external power supply. The power supply works on other things but my streamer won't power up anymore. It's very simple, just a motherboard and cpu. How can I check to see whats bad on my streamer?

So... i can get my pc to post but not do anything past that. Ive swapped all of my component's.. cpu, motherboard,psu,ram.. hd and ssds.. i just cant get it to boot.
How do you turn it off? Lol i may be over thinking it but id just switch off the psu
Also a motherboard new out of the box is not the only time it posts slowly. If you ever made changes in the BIOS (UEFI) you might have noticed that it sometimes takes longer to post then. Or it may do that if you installed an update. It shouldn't always do that unless you just have horrible luck with computers. The thing is that it needs some time when it is doing that. If it sat for more than a few minutes and still didn't post that is when something may be wrong. I don't know if attempting to power a normally working computer off when it does that after a change or update is safe so I wouldn't do it unless I must. There is no telling what may happen otherwise! It may be that nothing happens and it just does the slow post again. Any hardware changes like new RAM or any cards changed may do it too. Just give it a chance and don't panic thinking you damaged it, you likely did not damage anything if you were careful with everything.
0:29 Was it a 16 MHz CPU? Because going from 16 MHz to 20 MHz sounds like a huge overclock to me.
Yes. It was a pretty decent overclock in it's day.
Woulda Coulda Shoulda ...... Built an Asus and Ryzen system. No Post. Hate to do a complete tear down. I think I'm taking it back to the Big Box store. The most troubling part of any build I've done so far - is the itty bitty wires for the power and reset. Why can't they be simpler like the other plugs ?
I noticed it didn't boot. Since it is a AMD chip, AMD doesn't have integrated graphics, UNLESS you are using a 'G' AMD chip. You should let people know, you're using a G chip. If they try this with a non-G chip, they'll have that video issue, but their system will keep rebooting.
And some Intel chips too.
I think these things are crucial to know first before even touching the components.
At the beginning, he mentioned not needing the ram if you have integrated graphic. Is this what you are talking about? Sorry I am new, and wanting to make sure I do not mess up on my first building, I am using an AMD 5 7600X CPU.
Have you ever built a pc that uses every single component that comes on the board, i'm not talking about capabilities like raid or ahci, i'm talking about using every single adapter or port that comes on the board?

Even if the cooler has thermal paste on it, I recommend and always put on a very thin layer of thermal paste on the entire CPU.

Lately I've been using the Ryzen 5 5600G. It's a great CPU but a little overpriced right now. But then again, everything is.

It's a brand new CPU. It has compound pre-applied.

Are you talking about the cartridge on my shelf? That's the same copy of Mario Brothers that I grew up with. It's been blown and spit in and treated a lot worse than it is now. 😂😂
