This movie is always better with the song in it than without it, and it’s the only time I like a Disney movie with an extra song! In other words, I like this song better than “Human Again” in Beauty and the Beast and “Morning Report” in the Lion King!
Of all the deleted songs of Disney, this is the only one they should have kept. I can live without Morning Report, Human Again and You’re a Great Guy Quasimodo. But If I Never Knew You had words that add complexity to Poca and Smith’s relationship. He sings of how he became a better person because of her-he learned to love the Indians and not simply see them as savages to fear or conquer. She laments that they were not meant to be together but nevertheless, she doesn’t regret meeting him.
Makes no sense to have cut it and still something that makes me so mad that they did. This movie was clearly aimed at a more adult audience, so why would they care if kids were being antsy? Put it back in - though honestly, the reprise (as featured in the 10th anniversary edition) is a bit awkward. The original version of the reprise is much better and also available on TH-cam to watch.
I can't believe Alan was the one who suggested cutting this thats insane

I'd never blame Mr. Menken, although I may be nice to him.
Nah if i would go back in time to the 90s i would tell disney to keep the song.
