Ppl forget just how much work went into the classics💗 It’s so inspiring how much thought and dedication, time, study, heart, was given and carved into things that didn’t even make the final film. This is only a small look into it all. It’s amazing how it all comes together. Pocahontas is a masterpiece and every second is mesmerisingly beautiful. All the artists are wonderful, each character was created so perfectly voice and all, the scenery and music are astonishingly divine... it’s UNDERRATED as it is BEAUTIFUL, definitely one of the best classics! But each one of them blows my mind with how it comes together like it does. Disney deserves the attention it gets💗
Pocahontas' voice actress is beautiful. Her voice is soothing, I loved her outfit, and her hair is goals. Not only did she provide the voice but she looks like the drawn character. If they ever do live action - they should recast this woman.
She played Pocahontas' mother in 2005's "The New World". That's as far as she'll get with playing anyone related to the story, so far. Irene Bedard is 51 years of age. Pocahontas died at 22.
Pocahontas had one of the best soundtracks from Disney. Disney needs to bring back these 'Making of' specials instead of having to sit through a movie to catch a behind-the-scenes clip before a commercial.
Alan Menken is THE MAN. He's got the music of little mermaid, aladdin, beauty and the beast, pocahontas, hunchback of notre dame and enchanted all under his belt. He is my idol!!!
Every time I watch this movie it always effects me the exact same way, as if I were 10 again. It never gets old; that's when you know a movie is good. I just wish the second one wasn't so disappointing.
+RedEyesJesse529 I watched this movie many times when I was very little - too little to pay attention. I wish I could have watched it when I was ten. I would have loved it so.
Ikr I think they shouldn't have made a sequel at all... It was bad because that's how the real story ended and no body liked the ending but they couldn't just make something entirely new when it's supposed to be like the true story at least a little bit
Whenever I draw or paint a character for my own art, I feel that they are alive. I use different voices and create a personality for each character that I create. I may never get to do this as a living, but I will always enjoy this process. It entertains me and my cats.
Such beautiful music in this film and whole lot of other wonderful things about it. This Disney film is so extraordinary and so much effort and hard work put into it.
Steven Schwarts is the greatest lyricist of all time. I can never stop saying that, he has so much talent in accessing the minds of the characters and expressing them in music. L.O.V.E. IT!!!!
I'm 17 and this has always been my absolute favorite movie of all time. I have had so many VHS tapes that it was ridiculous, I have broken 3 of my DVD cd's and now on my fourth. Totally worth it. Pocahontas has always been the best movie ever made by Disney! The fact that you can grow up and still be effected by the story being told is a big factor. Thank you Disney for playing her story for everyone :)
It’s *2024,* then to know that back in the 1990’s they used to draw all the movements of the characters actions page by page just makes that Disney Era more *’special & appreciated’* 🤍🙌! Miss those movies & love my Pocahontas more.
Thank all for the Meaningful,Informative message conveyed through this Animated film for an hour.I love the song"The Colours of the Wind" apart from all songs.Strength lies in Unity"Cheers to all.Great team work 👍💪🎞️🎬📽️🎥🎼🎵🎶✏️🖌️🎨🎨💻⌨️🌦️😷🤩❤️🙏
Mr. Ruben Aquino is a fellow Pinoy right?! Mabuhay Ka Sir! We are proud of You.. Been loving this film though since my childhood years. Too bad Mr Smith and Pocahontas were not meant to be together in real life..
Best movie of all time i have a drawing of it and i have the movie 5 times on VHS 2 time on DVD (Even when i throw away one because it didn't work anymore :( ) and once on Blu-ray I have a love for it ^^
@kijiji93 Not to mention all the new stuff he wrote for the Broadway shows, and his non-disney work, like Little Shop of Horrors and Newsies. I agree with you totally, he is THE MAN.
They have to find the voices first, then after the voices, the write the music. They usually record the music and voices at around the same time. The animation is last because it has to correspond with the sounds
"If I Never Knew You" by Mel Gibson and Judy Kuhn, in my opinion, is even better than the song they had the two music artists do! It was just so heart-wrenching and just pulled at my heart strings... but I am happy they left it out of the film, because it just would have messed with the tent scene. Why didn't they mention it in the video?
@tongeli u cant do all at the same time, usually, its the music and Voice are done first, then they work on the animation and sork on the way the characters speak at the same time when theyre singing with the same rhythm
you mean the ones who did the hand drawing? I think I read in wikipedia that disney re-hired them (I'm not sure if all of them or just some) so that they would keep that 'classic hand-drawn feeling' in the new movies, as well.
Wow. I wish I could be a disney animator. Can you say dream job? Sadly it wasn't in the cards for me (though I still love doing my own sketches and drawings). Thanks for putting this up!
@KaylaBelleable YES YES even as a small child those lyrics resonated with me. One day I'm going to watch this with my children and I hope this song touches them.
All of the same people should have worked on Pocahontas 2. It would have been a better film. Also the film should have been more honest especially when Kocum and John Smith were shot. There was no sign that they were shot as though it was invisible. It came off as fake. You have to tell the truth to the children.
As a Lakota Sioux and apachic woman , thay have really taken language from us, that we don't konw anymore, only the old ones really konw new it , are children headly rilly don't konw it , and so sad
*sigh* I would go into animation without a second thought if only it still existed the way it did in the 90's and before. Truly that was the prime Disney era. when every action and movement of the characters was done by hand. How awesome would that be if someone asked you what you do for a living, to say "oh nothing big. I just drew and animated Pocahontas" 0_0 ..wut?
While I do admire the passion that is behind every Disney movie. Pocahontas isn't my favorite film. I think this movie has the same problem that Sleeping Beauty had. Too many endearing sidekicks, so it's hard to focus on the main characters.
@SP3489 drawings not really in the cards for me either i pretty much suck at drawing i wanna make a computer animated film adaption of kingdom hearts but i found out after watching this documentry that u also have to draw a character for a cgi film then u create the computer animated model even though directors of animated films have people who draw for them the director still has to be good at drawing i cant wait to get out of highschool go to film school and get all this pressure off my back

maybe it's just me but the animation for pocahontas feels a bit sloppy; some of the backgrounds are just plain colour and there isn't a tremendous amount of detail to the characters. i guess they might have been searching for a particular style but for me watching this "making of" in comparison with pinnochio, snow white and sleeping beauty displays a significant drop off in terms of detail, care and heart involved in making the product. i like colours of the wind but apart from that this is a film for people who like to suck dick
I'm aware that was their intention I'm just suggesting that it could have been a better looking film if they'd gone down a different route in terms of the background and style of the film. For me the characters and the story doesn''t have enough meat, a sleeping beauty/bambi-esque design could have carried the film.
+matthew eyre the point of the film was to tell the story of Pocahontas. And you have to remember that this movie was done in the 90s so animation wasnt exactly as great as it is today. The story was the main focus not the animation. Try to remember all the facts the next time you decide to criticize a film

I know! She resambles Pocahontas!
She would be too old now. Pocahontas came out in 1995, more than 20 years ago.
She played Pocahontas' mother in 2005's "The New World". That's as far as she'll get with playing anyone related to the story, so far. Irene Bedard is 51 years of age. Pocahontas died at 22.
its not a Coincidence the artist inspired pocahontas look from her , she was a model
she looks terrible now
Pocahontas had one of the best soundtracks from Disney.

Alan Menken is THE MAN. He's got the music of little mermaid, aladdin, beauty and the beast, pocahontas, hunchback of notre dame and enchanted all under his belt. He is my idol!!!
You also forgot Hercules and Tangled
If I Never Knew You was my favorite song from the movie. Jon Secada and Shanice knocked that song out of the park.
I'd kill for this Era to be back again..
What do you mean?
Me too. It's much better than whatever woke mess Disney is putting out now. I wish they would go back to this... they were in the zone here, no doubt.
you can never have too much Alan Menkin music! i honestly believe he's probably one of the best composers of our time.
THAT SONG THE COLORS OF THE WIND ALWAYS DOES SOMETHING TO ME SUCH A POWERFUL SONG.
Every time I watch this movie it always effects me the exact same way, as if I were 10 again. It never gets old; that's when you know a movie is good. I just wish the second one wasn't so disappointing.
RedEyesJesse529 yea i didn't like it it seems so right when shes with john smith not john rolfe
+RedEyesJesse529
you're absolutely right. I just wish they hadn't made the second one.
Sequels are the death of every Disney franchise. It's so sad...
Love the movie!! I can't believe artists like them got so devalued! They should have more recognition! 😉❤️🎥
Whenever I draw or paint a character for my own art, I feel that they are alive. I use different voices and create a personality for each character that I create. I may never get to do this as a living, but I will always enjoy this process. It entertains me and my cats.

I love hearing the score without the voice. The orchestra is so beautiful and iconic.
big ups to adam...great soundtrack. makes me shed a tear. memories from my childhood. she was always my favorite princess
I'm 17 and this has always been my absolute favorite movie of all time. I have had so many VHS tapes that it was ridiculous, I have broken 3 of my DVD cd's and now on my fourth. Totally worth it. Same Pocahontas will forever be my favorite Disney movie
Me too! Those lyrics always struck me the strongest, even as a child. Stephen Schwartz, BRAVO!
It’s *2024,* then to know that back in the 1990’s they used to draw all the movements of the characters actions page by page just makes that Disney Era more *’special & appreciated’* 🤍🙌! Miss those movies & love my Pocahontas more.
Meeko and Flit are the best side kicks characters ever! =)
A Disney movie isn’t a Disney movie without Alan Menken
Gosh, these men are so incredibly talented. I can't believe Disney fired them all :(
They all got fired??
Whaaaat? I’m guessing they got too old
ah, the 90's. good times.
Thank all for the Meaningful,Informative message conveyed through this Animated film for an hour.I love the song"The Colours of the Wind" apart from all songs.Strength lies in Unity"Cheers to all.Great team work 👍💪🎞️🎬📽️🎥🎼🎵🎶✏️🖌️🎨🎨💻⌨️🌦️😷🤩❤️🙏
my favorite lyrics are "how high does a sycamore grow? If you cut it down then you'll never know"
Mine is, "You can own the earth and still all you'll own is earth until"
the woman who played pocahontas looks soooo beautiful and i'm a straight girl but she really is one of the most beautiful women i have ever seen
disney needs to make a live action movie of this like they’re doing with their other older films
You're welcome. I'm planning to go into animation too and nothing beats learning from the best.
wow i've been looking in the mirror too to figure out how to draw characters. awesome. i could be as good as these guys some day XD
The character of Meeko is cute
Bobcat that grinned? Ha! sounds like a reference of the Cheisure Cat from “Alice in Wonderland”.😄
the original version of "If I Never Knew You" is so much better. It feels so much deeper and emotional
Mr. Ruben Aquino is a fellow Pinoy right?!
Mabuhay Ka Sir! We are proud of You..
Been loving this film though since my childhood years. Too bad Mr Smith and Pocahontas were not meant to be together in real life..
This has me rethinking my college major...
i wanna be an animator and voice actor and composer for animation cause animated movies just inspire me i love them soo much!
in Polish version of Pocahontas sings Edyta Górniak, I love her voice and songs in this movie ^^
:') Thank you so much for posting!!! This brings such joy to me!!
But waiwaiwait. I wanted to see Thomas record!!
all you need is a team of passionate awesome talented people! :)
They have to find the voices first, then after the voices, the write the music. They usually record the music and voices at around the same time. The animation is last because it has to correspond with the sounds

Why didn't they mention it in the video?
Unfortunately, the original theatrical release of the movie did not include that animated sequence in the tipi at night, but I think it should have!
great now I don't have to see the dvd version of this thing even though I already saw it! YAY :D
@tongeli u cant do all at the same time, usually, its the music and Voice are done first, then they work on the animation and sork on the way the characters speak at the same time when theyre singing with the same rhythm

you choose your own cards :)
alan menken you are amazing.
Ashton Jordan ☺😑

one of my dreams is to do the voice for an animated charactre in a disney movie!!!
They don't make disney movies like they used to
Oh my gosh Alan Menken! Is a beast
Hello childhood!
I also feel such a connection to Native Americans, history makes me deeply sad💔💔💔
pocahantos has the best songs
4:25-4:45 beautiful 😍
@KaylaBelleable YES YES even as a small child those lyrics resonated with me. One day I'm going to watch this with my children and I hope this song touches them.

I agree it had a different feel the second film. The first one for me was one of the best story line and Disney movie.
Pocahontas voice actress is fine
Dave is the real life flanders
As a Lakota Sioux and apachic woman , thay have really taken language from us, that we don't konw anymore, only the old ones really konw new it , are children headly rilly don't konw it , and so sad
@tongeli Music and voice are usually done first then animation. More voice work may occur once the animation is finished if re-dubbing is needed.
So was Mel Gibson John Smiths singing voice? Cause they mentioned Pocahontas singing voice but not his?
yes he was
u know i originaly wanted to make my adaption of kingdomhearts a 2d animated feature but after seeing how hard it is to do that im going for 3d
cool
@mai450 good luck with ur training in animation are u training to be a hand drawn animator or a cgi animator
I agree :)
just listen Edyta Górniak - Kolorowy świat
x)
RIP Alan Menkin

mabey ill use that song if i never knew you for my adaption of kingdomhearts but ill use it for the 3rd film in the series
When did this movie come out?
1995
@nave712 keep us informed!!! that sounds like a fun project
@KeladrysLove dude howard ashmans the one who died not alan menken
only complaint...they should have mentioned Thomas...
in what order do they do these movies?
i mean like
1. animation
2. music
3. voice
OR all at the same time?
? i'm just curious
ALAN MENKEN I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@JoeyandJosh thanks dude
@nave712 i know i got corrected I APOLOGIZE FOR BLASPHEMING HIS AMAZING NAME
lol at 0:36

@KeladrysLove he's not dead. don't even dare write something horrible like that.
Nowhere in the clip were Vanessa Williams was mentioned, she also sang "Colors of the Wind"!
Thumbs up if this movie inspired you to be a strong woman, especially if you are part of a minority group!!
Is it just me or does the statue and the end give you the creeps?
@SP3489 drawings not really in the cards for me either i pretty much suck at drawing
