You’re the reason I bought one. I travel for work often both domestic and overseas. Got a travel router to help with the hotel browser authentication. Seriously this has been a great investment already - 4 days and I’m hooked. My wife watches her Greys Anatomy and I’m trying to save the world as Cloud right next to her.

I live in Alaska and I'm taking this thing to Florida and had pretty much flawless gameplay..
I will say I was at my parents house and they're download speeds are 800 up and 800 down.
My apartment I only get $500 download speed in 20 upload speed.
I've found that since the newer update where people have said it's ran smoother I didn't really notice a difference because I had damn near flawless experience since buying mines in January but I have noticed that it connects faster when I'm using my phone as a hotspot.

Shadows of colossus, now onto Stray. Ill probs replay my entire back catalogue on it. I prefer handhelds and had run out of good games on the switch. This device is perfect so far. Cheers for all the tips.

@purepsx had my vita out the other day and it's still a great bit of kit (I have the og old 3g model) just a shame about the memory cards and no netflix/streaming services. Think that really killed it, I also have the ps vita tv and that not being able to stream content was just a bad move by sony
PSA: I'm dropping a GAME CHANGING TIP i came across recently. If your PS Portal seems to freezeframe/pixelates even when your internet works perfectly. Go on your network name on PS5, press options to bring up advanced settings. Then change your MTU from the default 1500 to 1473. This was the last thing keeping from that flawless experience... 😉👍

@@peterburnett5160 Yes since the more stable/better setup at the home., the better experience outside of it. Think of your PS5 as a router that needs proper setup, to send out a strong connection to anywhere with wifi. I've used it at a friend's house and saw no difference from home. But cross country may be another thing considering ping and all... 🤔

I just brought this device for my kids via PlayStation 1 per console offer.
Im wondering is it a good purchase or should i just send it back once arrived.
I have since watched alot of youtube video saying its not that great.
Do you thing it will receive any updates so kids will be able to watch Netflix and Disney as well as Games?

I just got two delivered yesterday. One for me and one for my son. Our bdays are a day apart. At first I didn’t think i needed one, partly because of all the shit talk going around when it first came out. But then i realized i was barely using my ps5 because my daughter and grand kids moved in and the living room tv is always being used. The past year I've been mostly using my switch. This is only day 2 but this thing is great! I almost got the backbone but didn’t want to tie up my phone. Im so glad I waited and got the portal. The screen is beautiful and its so easy to start up and use.

I dont understand why people are hating on this device. I bought one a month ago and I mostly only gaming on it instead of using my 75 inch 4k. Yes I am a father of a 1 year old and yes it helps when she is watching her kids show while in playing. But thats not why i like it. I like it because I can lie down while playing my game. I like it cus it feels better holding it than the PS Vita and the Steamdeck.

Playing FF7 rebirth right now. Previously mostly sports game like nba2k and madden. I really like the portal because I play alot of rpg games that is 50 plus hours long so me sitting on my couch or even in front of a computer playing an rpg is not ideal.

@@purepsx yes I had to call PlayStation support as they don’t have an option online. Just needed my name, email address and device serial number and they were able to get everything situated within 10 minutes. You do have to cover the cost of shipping, but overall not a long or bad experience

Just got mine yesterday, had a couple eh hours on it playing Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, had one or two wee stutters while moving the camera, but somebody had said to me it’s because my PS5 isn’t hardwired, gonna do that on my next day off and see how it goes. I never knew we couldn’t stream the Streaming Ps+ Games, hopefully that becomes a thing in the future as that would be massive! As a family man I’m calling this the “Dadstation” 😂 got a case and screen protector coming tomorrow, looking forward to many many hours on this, since I’m a massive handheld fan, love my oled switch and still have a vita that I play, and looking at a steam deck next 😂

When they add 4g...ill get one...until then bought a dual sense edge. My back bone works pretty good for me.
I got mine a couple days ago and I'm playing Fallout 4 on it. I am having an issue with stick drift and what seems like buttons sticking. The console is brand new, what could be causing this?

Hell yeah, I love the portal and I can't wait to have it, for me the ergonomics of the dualsense and the size of the screen is top!
3:12 this is true, i bought thinking i would use and i was gonna travel soon so i thought it was perfect. I hardly use it and the lag when i travelled was so annoying and dont reccomend if you wanna travel
This happens with everyone, don’t know why they feel the need to lie about it, the portal works best if your close to your router.

Bringing the portal out and about makes the accessory a smudge magnet, and even when i always wash my hands before I play, it gets dirty quickly. Any tips on how to clean it?
I am currently cleaning it the same way I clean my dual sense controller though, using alcohol.

Do the thumb stick covers make the surface area bigger/wider since it's smaller than the Dual sense's sticks? I have big hands, so a bit more surface area would be great. Liking the Portal otherwise

@@purepsx That's great! I'll have to get a pair. I've been playing Final Fantasy 16 while updating servers over night. It's a great device for killing time while watching progress bars slightly move. I might try Helldivers 2, but I am near the edge of my Wi-Fi range. It might not be the best experience.
Hi - i have a major issue with connection .My portal only connects during physical proximity with PS5 . I tried all the hacks and very tired amd frustated about what should i do

As an owner of a PS Portal, as long as you're ONLY playing it at home, you're good. If you're traveling at all and wanna game? An ipad + dual sense is just as good. As a reminder, the Portal is an accessory and not intended to be a standalone unit. This was done with PS Vita and PS4 and with the Vita, you could still play games on it.
Would you like to see Sony release a new handheld console like a Vita 2?
Are those grips for the sticks you're using specifically for the Portal? I heard Switch grips fit perfectly but I dunno...

Can anyone help? I’m due go away on holiday and still trying figure out how connect portal outside the house! In the house works fine but outside using my hotspot doesn’t seem to connect! I have even took it to my friends house use their wifi still won’t connect! The ps5 is in test mode aswell!!
It should work, Google port forwarding as you may need to do this on your router if your portal isn’t connecting to your ps5 when you are outside your house! I just set up my portal using the steps in my guide video and it’s worked perfectly when I am away from home! Let us know how you get on as this may help others!
As a guy who works 16 hours days it’s so convenient to use the portal to play my ps5 that is in my office from my bed. I could just move my system to the room but my wife likes to watch her shows in bed so this is perfect for me

Had the microstuttering issue since day one no matter what i do about my network/ it appears that ps play outputs at 59 herrz which causes this problem , unfortunately I have returned mine

Yes you can I keep my ps4 titles on external if it's on your ps5 internal or external you can play them all.
Yeah that should be fine! As long as they can be played on your ps5 it will work as it’s basically a mirror of your PlayStation 5 system
How much data did you use while on your cell phones hotspot? I tried playing and I was screaming through my phones 10 gig hotspot allowance.
No idea I have an unlimited data plan! I will measure it in future and cover it in a video going over playing the portal outside so it hopefully helps people!
I got one, but I'm not too fussed about it. I got it for my 7 year old nephew who always disturbs me to play in my bedroom. I can now easily have a nap & use my ps4 to watch youtube or whatever on my tv. Also having the option to play games whilst laying down or somewhere else around the house is a bonus. I think more people need to find the purpose of buying this device & not for the sake it. I write this comment as i lay down in bed & my nephew is playing with it. My only concern with this is the battery life.

My sticks started to make a clicking sound really weird problem after such a short time using the portal. No drifting only clicking noise.
Thats weird, is it the sticks that are clicking when you move them? as they do click when you press them in?

For hotels if you call the tech support number and give them the MAC address they’ll hook it up for you! Only takes a few minutes.
I was surely going to get one but the more I look into the specs the more it makes me sad. No video out on the USBC port, no back buttons like on the edge (I love back buttons) no Bluetooth for earbuds. I use my Steam Deck with Xreal AR Glasses because it's easier for my old eyes to see the screen and the screen is bigger. PLUS it can be pretty dark in a bedroom if you're playing while the wife is asleep

@@purepsx Right now Prince of Persia (I have like 80% done on 75" TV) and Detroit:Become Human. My impression is it nice for slower pace games like detroit, but on Prince of Persia I am much better on standard pad and TV. maybe I need to have used to it, but it much harder for me to play on portal. Next big game on my list, when I will have some holidays in summer will be Horizon with DLC.

I got one… it lags, won’t connect to any other wifi network and has issues pairing… idk what to make of my experience being that I wanted to like this gadget understanding that it was going to be limited but it’s just too buggy for at this time… I will be returning it.

@@purepsx I’ll be honest my expectations when I bought the PS Portal were extremely tempered and even then it failed to meet them. I love the design and the idea. It’s got a lot of potential but it feels like I’m paying premium pricing for a beta version of something that can be vastly improved in the 2.0 iteration. I don’t be begrudge anyone for whom this device works to their liking… it’s just not for at this time.

Yea i know its advised not to but i play competitively madden 24 and the experience is amazing now away from home its a no go...hot spot or not

Yes, but the ps needs to be in rest mode always.
Yeah as long as you have configured your ps5 correctly so it is in rest mode, then it can wake the ps5 and put it to sleep remotely! Are you thinking about picking up a portal!?

@@purepsx games that I think are good for the portal/ current playing, remnant 2, helldivers 2, Witcher 3, gta 5, red dead 2 and no man’s sky. I stay far away PvP it’s not a latency problem it’s just to small of a screen.

I agree with you buddy. and yes I own a portal, don’t know why some people feel the need to make it seem like the best thing since sliced bread because it isn’t, I even seen a video where a guy said he lives in a three story house and his router was in the basement and he plays his portal flawlessly in his bedroom on the third floor, first of all Wi-Fi 5 and 6 has a problem passing through walls and second they are both short range signals, no way this happened without a hotspot or Wi-Fi extenders on every floor.

What do you think about the PlayStation Portal?
@purepsx Does what it's advertised to do. Sony didn't call this a portable, they called it ps portal and was meant for home uses but you could also take it out and remote play far away from ps5 if you have great internet speeds and set the setting the correct way with Lan cable connected at nat type 2, then you are good to play almost anywhere.

I have a portal and I’ll be the first to tell you they are not all that, you better have great WI-FI or you just wasted your money and it does work best if you are in the same room with your router or you will get occasional stutter or disconnect, I like the portal but I’m not eating paid by Sony to lie about it, if you have a Ipad, Computer, or laptop you can do the same thing a portal does better, even before they released the portal these things existed.

I was struggling to progress on FF7 rebirth due to being too busy.
Now I can get a few hours in with the portal!
All we're missing is the ability to connect any bluetooth audio (probably not happening) and the ability for game streaming without the PS5 - maybe via PS plus.
Fingers crossed we get some of that in future updates! How have you found playing on the portal so far!??
@@purepsx i had mixed feelings as im so used to having handheld consoles like the switch, and steamdeck. The PS portal is simply a controller with a screen built in!
Overall im enjoying it for some quick sessions chilling in bed, ive done all the tricks to maximise performance and have a great mesh network but still get a little choppiness now and them. Its playable but im so spoilt by high fps a big screen, high frames, and full blown handheld consoles with oled screens i can see why the portal is a hard sell.

Probably it would not disappoint, but the PS portal is for those who have a PS 5 already! If you have a PS5 and get the portal you do not even need to buy new games to enjoy it!

He doesn’t have to be a troll to tell the truth, this happens if you have a slow Wi-Fi connection. And I own one but I’ll be the first to say, it’s a product that shouldn’t exist because your Ipad, Iphone, laptop already did these things ten years before the portal was made.

Yep that does happen when your not close to your router, don’t know why these people feel the need to lie about it, Wi-Fi signals especially 5G has a problem passing through some walls even if you have the best Wi-Fi, but nobody mentions that.
