  • Four survivors (Peter Mark Richman, Peggy Ann Garner, Ron Hayes, and William Stevens) find themselves in a bizarre metal chamber after surviving a hurricane. As they figure out where they are, they are attacked by a beam that freezes anyone and anything.
    Season 2, Episode 17
    When a cargo plane carrying five passengers is downed in the eye of a hurricane, the passengers find themselves trapped in an eerily cavernous chamber and dependent upon the "human" compassion of their alien captors for survival. Mark Richman stars.

    The final episode of ABC-TV's "THE OUTER LIMITS" ended with "The Probe" (ABC airdate: January 16, 1965), and written by Sam Neuman and Seeleg Lester, and based on a story written by series creator/executive producer, Leslie Stevens, who was uncredited for this episode. directed by Felix E. Feist, this episode focuses on a Cargo airplane flying into the eye of a Hurricane, where it was eventually destroyed in the ocean, and its survivors in a raft are adrift in a foggy body of ocean until they realize that they aren't in the ocean, but on the deck of an Unidentified craft of Alien origin. The episode was well made, and stunt performer, Janos Prohaska plays a giant and deformed microbe, who, two years after this final episode, would later be reinvented as "The Horta" from "STAR TREK"s 1967 episode, "The Devil In The Dark". guest stars in this episode was Peter Mark Richmond ("CAIN'S HUNDRED"), Ron Haynes ("EVERGLADES"), and Peggy Ann Gardner ("A TREE GROWS IN BROOKLYN")-the directors of photography in this final episode were Fred J. Koenekamp & Kenneth Peach. "The Probe' was actually an impressive "budget show", and a great way to conclude the series, which was replaced during the following week by ABC's "THE KING FAMILY" variety series. later in 1965, United Artists Television officially syndicated "THE OUTER LIMITS", where it began a wealthy TV run throughout the next two decades before the MGM merger with United Artists that resulted from the fiscal disaster with UA's "HEAVEN'S GATE" (1980), which caused a great fiscal loss for both United Artists and its then parent company, Transamerica, who eventually sold United Artists to MGM, to later become MGM/UA Entertainment in 1982. "THE OUTER LIMITS" officially became available for Beta and VHS commercial release in late 1987 with "The Galaxy Being", "The Man With The Power", and "The Hundred Days Of The Dragon", and another MGM/UA Home Video release in 1988, which consisted of "Demon With A Glass Hand", "The Zanti Misfits", and "The Inheritors" (poorly edited), before the rest of the 49 episodes were eventually released onto VHS and Laser Disc throughout the 1990s, and those horrible two-sided DVD discs that were released in 2002 and 2003, until Kino Lorber remastered the series onto Blu ray in 2017, with way more superior quality and special features content!

    Fun Fact:
    Later on in this episode, our heroes are menaced by a gigantic microbe. Mikey, as he was known, was a costume built and worn by legendary creature actor Janos Prohaska, who later re-worked the costume to become the Mother Horta in the Star Trek episode "Devil in the Dark."

      Didn't he also play the Gorn in the Star Trek TOS episode Arena?

    • @willmfrank
      @willmfrank ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mariakelly90210 Nope. The Gorn was built by the equally legendary Wah Ming Chang, and portrayed by Bobby Clark.
      BUT Janos Prohaska DID re-work another of his own costumes for Star Trek; he added pointed spines and a tail to Snowpuff, his albino gorilla, to create the Mugato in "A Private Little War." 🙂

    This ep has a reputation as OL's worst, but I think it's reasonably entertaining. In fact, given the super-low budget, a lot of ingenuity was involved.

      I've wondered if I could come up with a good episode idea. It appears perhaps the budget was very limited at the end, so that would have to play a role. Some episodes like 'The Man Who Was Never Born' just had it all, great acting, music, idea, special effects. Others had almost nothing. I think I'll pass on this one, never have seen it and I'm a pretty big OL fan. Dont want to spoil the legacy.
