This song, in my opinion, is one of the most under-rated rock songs ever.

Shooting star should have been as big as Kansas was. Such a phenomenal band that was the soundtrack to my life in the 80s through today.

    • @richavic4520
      @richavic4520 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

They were the first act signed to the Virgin label.
My question is, would an established label have done a better job of promoting them?
I'm from the same area as they are. I've been a fan since 1971 or so. MacLaine is not Van's real real last name. An early version of the band was a retro 50's act called The Shooting Stars, building on the popularity of Sha NaNa after Woodstock. And occasionally, with The Galaxies, a dance outfit that was part of the fun.

There is never been a song like this that captures everything. The musicians are spot-on. This song can give you hope and get you off your ass and do something about it. It's not called last chance for any other reason. Put on your headphones, crank it up and just listen to that studio version.

I can't understand why this band / song is so underrated. This song has everything a song needs. The temple changes are just phenomenal. This did get a lot of radio play in Chicago back when it came out, and I just don't understand how this band didn't get the recognition it deserved.

The lead singer seemed to have retained his vocal cords. This is 19 years after they hit it big and this video is 19 years old so who knows now. Among young people in the st louis area back in the early 80's they were greatly admired!! Summer of 2020 I was heading to a casino, one of the very few open, and my lady friend had it on a classic rock station in NE Mo and last chance came on when we stopped to get a soda. It was like a friggin ghost stepped into the car! I enjoyed the hell out of it!!!!
She didn't understand tho. She was a Yuper (michigan upper peninsula) and never heard of S S. In 89/90 I was so burned out on classic rock and started listening to less than mainstream rock. Some raw like punk, some just a different influence than what was conventional. As soon as the seattle sound threw their hat in the ring we had a full blown alternative revolution on our hands. By 97/98 it had wound down to a rather weak hash of mainstream sounding music like marcy playground, foo fighters, ben folds five, goo goo dolls, etc. I was maturing a bit and went to old classic country and news talk radio.
Still do today. But it was a real nice blast from the past to pick up on the old jams and I had to jump on here to listen to the other hits S S had put out back in the day. What great times we had back then!!!
Listening to Triump is an equal treat!! If I recall correctly Shooting Star toured with Triumph.
Both got alot of airplay during that same early 80's era.
    ROCK ON!!!✊✊✊

gaston0770 Led Was my favorite band but Last Chance in my opinion better than Stairway to Heaven because it jams from the start and intensifies into individual killer solos whereas Stair way to Heaven was a ballad that started slow and gradually builded ending in a jam. Last Chance is a constant jam from start to finish with no let up. It's ear candy all the way through.

Saw them with three high school friends in 1976-1977 at the old shelter house and lake at 95th and Metcalf! What a great night as the four of us were sitting on fence behind band with a fifth of Schnapp's chased with suds and violin player egging us on as they were rocking it good and hard and we were just as loud! Soon, the whole place was rocking, and noise complaints were announced, but they, and us weren't stopping! Of course being from the "Dotte", we were ready to rock and man did they- and us! Always wondered if Any members remember that as the place was not vocal- until we showed up and the place went full blown top performance concert! Thanks for the great memories-Jim S.

For who just can’t understand why this band didn’t get the attention it should have…it takes more than sheer talent as they can show even here. Performing live concerts and relying on albums to control your life can be very difficult especially if you notice your gifts starting to thin out. Our voice is precious. Care for it. I’ve been there where it failed me and those who I was trying to bless with it.

I grew up with this band.
I never knew them, but attended their shows when I was in junior high, and the core members were graduating high school. Van, the lead guitarist, is/was a really shy guy that shed it on stage.
      Shred it, too.
I just wanted to add a little bit.
      Cheers!

I have seen, throughout the years, Shooting Star with Gary & Ronnie on vocals and Kansas with Steve & John on vocals. I think that Shooting Stars music was a different kind of power than Kansas. Because both bands had violins it gave them a different flavor than a lot of the other hit bands in those years. I appreciate each band for the memories they keep in my mind & soul! Rock On~

Nothing to be sad about my friend, I have listened to a lot of rock in my time but this to me is timeless, was born in '66 and still come back to this from time to time. When I read your comment, it brought me back to my childhood. I too grew up in San Jose and remember listening to 98.5 KOME and 92.3 KSJO during this time.

Great song! One of my all-time favorites. Looks like my old friend Rod Lincoln sitting in on drums for them. I saw them in the late 70's at the Missouri Theatre in St. Joseph, MO. One of my first concerts and I fell in love with them. Still have them on my ipod. Thanks for posting them here.

One of an all time best songs they did as well as Tonight and Breakout. I remember them playing at One Block West . I wanted to go see but I was 14. lol I did enjoy seeing Pete Mitchell perform at Back Stage in Overland Park in 88...and KY-102's Day In the Park at Smithville Lake in 89!)@May Shooting Rock On as one my favorite bands that I still to this day feel
were better than others ever noticed.

Back in 1980, Shooting Star opened for Jefferson Starship at old Vets Auditorium in Des Moines Iowa. When they did this song to close thier set, Gary West ran up into the balcony where the kettle drums were in one of the entrance to the auditorium and proceeded to have about a 5 minute drum duel with Steve Thomas. It was so damn electric. Thank you sooooo much for uploading one of my favorite songs.

you are making 2 VERY BIG & true statements
SHOWS how messed up the world IS
-has to be the most UNDERRATTED /so many hard songs that the world has barely or never heard
-Then to have one of the best songs of all time also
THATS JUST WRONG,THE WORLD IS MISSING OUT, id be pissed if i never heard of these guys
