Such a beautiful song. Such an incredibly talented band. Reminds me of the Good Old Days when AWESOME music was being played on 92.3 KSJO out of San Jose, California. Bands like Rush, Zebra, The Sherbs, Triumph, Krokus, Saxon, Y & T, Scorpions, Judas Priest ,and of course, Iron Maiden was being played through out the South Bay into Morgan Hill, Ca. When men were men. Ans sheep were sheep.
I was one of the priviledged few who discovered the band from their first album and stuck with them for many a year afterwards, sharing them with everyone I knew. (When I worked for Best Buy, I sold probably 20+ copies of Best of Vol 1 on CD... easily. Such an incredible collection of tunes, that one.) To this day "Flesh and Blood" sends shivers up & down my spine. Sooooo true, and such powerful lyrics. Amazing band, quite sad that they never had the fame they deserved.
Saw them 1st in '79 with Ozzy & Triumph. I had never even heard of Shooting Star, I and 7,000 other folks sat with their jaw dropped as we watch the band rip through an impressive set. Their first album called Shooting Star is a must have simply incredible!
They were an AWESOME BAND! I think that the reason we didn't hear them more after this album is because they wouldn't sell out to the music industry. I dont know if you know anything about that but there is a high price to pay to make it mainstream in Hollywood! These guys were some of the few that were smart and made a good decision in that aspect. But yes I seen them in concert a few times. Its sad because they were, to me, one of the best bands of their time!!
EPIC rock band that essentially 'flew under the radar'. Still have 'Hang On For Your Life' on CD. My God, what a rock masterpiece! Great songwriting and playing!
Why do thier songs make me happy and wanna cry at the same time.... So many good times seeing them hearing them on the radio knowing someone who knew one or two members of the band. My first date with my now ex husband. So much more I could write
Great band!! During my band days, I had the pleasure of spending time on the road as an opener for Shooting Star on several show. When they came to Cincinnati at Bogart's or The Blue Note, Van, Rod, and Keith, along with Brad (road manager) would stay at my house. Our band MARA was highly influenced by Shooting Star, and we owed much of our success and loyal following to them. 'Till the day I die, I will always hold a special memory for these guys.
What a great band and song. I got turned on to them thanks to their album Hang On For Your Life! Why this band didn't get more exposure is a mystery. Great memories.
I remember this Band back when I graduated in 1984 Still a rockin Band Can't wait to see them In Olathe, KS at The Old Settler's Day. Love Hollywood and Last Chance. I didn't know Hollywood was based on the Life of Dorothy Stratten Very sad song. I hope my 11yr Son will go with me and hear the violin on Last Chance. He loves Music and Playing it.
These guys should have been BIG. "Hang on for Your Life" was a heck of an LP. Then they just disappeared? I was lucky enough to see them around same time as this video.
Sadly, they hit at the wrong time, with the wrong sound, and the wrong name, right around the time when New Wave and hair metal were cresting into the mainstream. I love the fuck out of this band, saw them open for Foghat and BOC in '82 (they were fantastic), and have always hated how Shooting Star was the band with the goods right around the time when the market was making their earnest approach distinctly unfashionable.
This is one of my two favorite SS songs. For happening 20 years after the song's recording, this performance was solid, and the violinist was on fire! I barely learned of this band a little more than a decade ago; I wish that I had known about it in its heyday.
A very rarely if never heard of band makes the stage big time and they hit the stage with a bang. I used to go to a place called The rainbow music Hall in Denver Colorado I have seen this band probably a dozen times and if they keep playing I will see them it doesn't more. This band definitely has what it takes to rock a crowd even though half of that crowd has never heard of them. Rock on shooting star roll forever you definitely have what it takes. Even more so than many of the big name bands
A great song, by a great band. I had the distinct pleasure of attending one of their shows in Fresno Ca. back in the 80s, and it continues, to this day, to be one of my all time favorite live shows. Some songs take you back in time, and bring a smile to your face, remembering "the good old days". This one does it for me.
Just saw them a few hours earlier at Ameristar in Kansas City. Although, like most bands, there were a few personal changes the music and talent are top notch. "Last Chance" should live forever.
They came to louisville ky. For a a free concert on the waterfront about 15 years ago. The opened up for Kansas. I went to see shooting star play, when kansas started I left. Love these guys.
Will always remember this as being my first concert!!! I only went because my dad worked at a recording studio with one of them and got tickets. I left with quite a few songs thats will forever stick with me!
Wow. I saw you guys play at the Chicago Ampitheatre in 1981. A bunch of bands were playing that night, but I was there to see a local band called Survivor. I didn't know about your music at the time. In the cloudiness of my buzz I remember your set. It was great and the crowd thought it was great. I was 14 and never imagined that someone jamming on a violin would be so cool. Thanks for posting, the music and the flashback. P.S. I love this song.
You guys have no idea what a huge impact you have had on my life with your music and your friendship. No one else compares . God, where did 1979 go? Thanks for the memories, guys! Rick Thompson THE BREEZEWAY.
Loved this band from their first album! I saw them in Waukesha, WI where they drove the security guards nuts by coaxing the crowd up to the stage. Fantastic song writing and musicianship. I feel so fortunate to have had the chance to appreciate them.
They were down to two original members at this point. I can remember shows, Van leaning to the front row, letting audience members pluck his guitar strings while he manipulated the fretboard. Great fan interaction. Never saw that before. Or since.
Love this song too death ! Back in the day . This song was the ultimate guy song . Love the words. Oh Oh so true.......... Thank you guys for all the great music ! . God bless & Rock on ..........
@ChuckLetson ...my 8y/o dau just started playing violin and was blown away when she saw/heard this,...in her own word "daddy, this rock band has a violin....thats SO cool!"
Great song...Great band...if you were lucky enough too see them back in the day you got an amazing show.Thank you for so many great songs and the memories,I just wish music still had a heart...God Bless ...
The whole performance is amazing ! But that Violin solo at the end is in a league of its own ! My 3rd favorite band of all time ! Probably would be higher for me, if they had more material. May God Bless them.
Always have loved Shooting Star and have all the albums and promos... Be nice to get Robby Steinhardt to do a track with you guys since this band is also from Kansas the band and State :)
i saw them in 09 @ the horney toad down at lake of the ozarks. of coarse i was right at the stage in front of the amps.......no better place at a concert
Wish i Could been there as i would gave a mix like i 6:256:25 did isuggest to sound man as he made few changes and it was Bad Ass second set at Jack Walker park in des moines iowa as got lucky enough to have gotten a pic wuth the band ,,! Van will always be missed R.I.P
Just try to find this on a TouchTune machine (digital jukebox) in a bar. I have searched and searched and this song just does not come up. I would play it to death if it did! One of the greatest rock and roll anthems ever.
They brought the Indianapolis music seen to new heights nearly 30 years ago ... went nation wide to a degree ... now, just across the boarder in IL , I can't get them player on our (?) local classic rock station ... sad ... too much corporate manipulation everywhere you turn. Be advised ~~
I was a big fan of the album Hang on for Your Life, a few songs got quite a bit of airplay on Indy's Q95 Rock station. Saw them open for Triumph and Johnny Winter the night before the Indy 500, '80 or '81. Don't know the song they opened with but it kicked! From an earlier album, maybe.
@@PietyOFpaxson Think I heard it a lot back then, but didn't know it was them. I've looked for it and couldn't find it, since I wasn't aware of who played it! Thanks...
This band will rock forever for those of us who are lucky enough to know about them!
These guys should have been so much bigger! Everyone should know about this great band!
This band should have much more recognition today than they get. Rock and Roll Hall of fame in my opinion!
Such a beautiful song. Such an incredibly talented band. Reminds me of the Good Old Days when AWESOME music was being played on 92.3 KSJO out of San Jose, California. So hard to believe than Van is no longer walking among us.... may his music live on........
I never heard of these guys before... I'm 52 & still a big-time rocker, but I wonder how I missed this great band!....
I was one of the priviledged few who discovered the band from their first album and stuck with them for many a year afterwards, sharing them with everyone I knew. @@sharonrae9112 It's unfortunate the price for stardom, just stinks. But yeah, it's well documented.

"Hang on For Your Life" grabs you at the first note...and doesn't let go

Shooting Star was such a great band, they came from my area hometown, great midwest band. Talented group of guys.

You don't Shooting Star.
Soooo obvious some one other than him was playing guitar… pitiful
