Product Sourcing:
When it comes to sourcing a product for review, I will usually either purchase and item personally or reach out to a supplier requesting a sample for review. Many suppliers are supportive if they are confident in their product, appreciating the value of greater exposure.
I am sometimes sent a product by a supplier which I may include if the product fits planned content and I believe will be of interest to you, my audience. The product needs to be worthy of a review and I always make it clear to the supplier that they cannot influence or be involved in the content in any way. It is not in my interest to review inferior or poor quality products and therefore as you might expect many product offers are politely declined.
Any sponsored videos (paid for reviews) are clearly stated as such so there can be no misunderstanding.
Sometimes a supplier will provide a link to the product or the supplier which I am happy to include in the description. Sometimes I will be provided with an affiliate link so I can earn a commission on sales and this helps to support channel costs but never at the expense of an honest review. There is no cost to you and in some cases discounts can be obtained via the link or via an included code.
If a product I have reviewed is available from Amazon I will often include an Amazon link in the description. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. If you purchase a product or service with the links that I provide I may receive a small commission. There is no additional charge to you.

Really wish they shipped to they UK
I'm hoping they will open up to the UK
They don’t ship to the UK
Started carrying a lot of my grandfathers older style pocket knives and I love the look of that Rough Ryder thanks for introducing me to something new!
"This is your father's pocketknife. Not as clumsy or as random as a Roxon multitool, but an elegant tool for a more civilized age."
May the force be with you :-)
You mean the Youngling Slayer 9000?
Thanks Jon. Great video as always. I am hoping to get the Home and Hadfield Hub myself...
I have that Coal Miner and I LOVE it! Feels great in the hand, blades are super sharp and have taken a very keen edge when needed with a little strop. Really nice to have a spare blade too
great to hear 👍
I love my Kaweco Liliput Copper Fountain Pen
Sits in my pocket. Never leaks and awesome writer. Fitted with a gold broad nib.
Hi Jon glad that you added a compass to your EDC well it worked for Peter O'Toole in Lawrence of Arabia, why not you & me.
Talking about vintage how about if you may add a SLING SHOT in your EDC, well it worked for David in the Bible, he carried it in his very own EDC bag made of goat skin ,why not you & me. Next thing is taking it a wee bit on the edge of mountain a Parachute , yes they NAVY SEALS use it for their HALO jumps, aka High altitude & low opening. Local jumpers also use it when jumping of mountains etc. Hope u had fun with that LOL. God Bless.
😁😁😁 thanks for sharing
Great list. I was expecting to see RE:FORM wallets in there as well. I was so intrigued by their material and slim design that I decided to order one of their wallets early this year, and I have not looked back ever since!
2:07 I've driven past the Zippo factory in Bradford PA. They have a Zippo lighter museum there. Unfortunately, it was closed when we were there. Have to go back, it's only a 2h drive.
Another interesting selection and great to see high quality materials elevating these way beyond the usual EDC.. 👍
Thanks 👍
Great video, thanks Jon, keep them coming!
Thank you
thanks for the new video. I really think it's good that you mention the current prices of the items you show👍🏼
Good to know - thanks for the feedback
Great video and great gear. I have the luxury of carrying an OTF pocket knife, but even the old school knifes are retro cool. I will likely buy that flashlight or get it as a gift for Christmas!
Very cool!
Always like and enjoy your videos and your info. Cheers Mate ❤
Much appreciated
This is great thanks!
Good to know - thanks
only just discovered your channel lad, didnt figure you for a fellow yorkshireman lol keep the awesome videos coming
Edc has become more about collecting than an actual need to carry now I'm afraid.
Expecially for the Office Commandos ... gotta have that Tactical look in the office XD
For me it's always about trying to find the best carry solution - but that involves a lot of trial and error - ie. lots of gear.
That Fox knife is beautiful. M390 is such a great steel as well. A gorgeous, practical piece. Fox are Italian I think and I’ve seen great things from them.
Yes, was very impressed with this!
I have enjoyed your videos. I find them very interesting. I have a knife similar to your Fox. I bought mine about 50 years ago. It is from Remington UMC.
I really liked everything in this video! I wish i could find this brass compass here in Spain, but so far no luck. As for the fountain pen, I would recommend a Kaweco lilliput in brass! I have one with a copper clip, and it really fits in the style of this video :)
Great video, and a couple of good Christmas presents ideas. I also think I spotted Cliff Road car park.
yes you did!
Yeah Holme and Hadfield!! 👐Cheers
Some great Xmas gift ideas
Great 👍
Great video. I really like this esthetic. The Marbles compass is on my list. Any recommendations on other high quality pocket compass?
CMP-20 Compass Necklace worth a look in UK
Great video by the way "That Gear Guy" has a review on the knife cabinet.
I wonder if Jon was talking about himself too in the opening statement🤔
Yep, that would work 😁
I have several Rough Riders. I rarely carry them, but love the looks and the weight to them. If I want to switch it up, then this is something less intimidating than most knives (because of the traditional look), and less boring than my actual edc, a Victorinox compact or the alox bantam (for when I’m suited up). My favorite RR is the buckshot bone trapper, but the denim micarta scales, esp on the reserve’s are also very nice.
Thanks for sharing 👍
Knurling.... 😍😍😍
What a great idea for a pre-Christmas vlog. I do like the traditional look of things but with the modern technology underpinning the design. Well done, and hopefully you can find a few other items in the same style to explore. Cheers👋
Thanks for the great feedback 👍
The Vessi shoes would be excellent for keen sailor's everywhere.
Thanks for the informations of interesting items. By the way what kind of glasses do you wear?
The 👓 are Mr Leight
Many thanks Jon but I believe you referred to the glasses frame to be Mr. Leight. What I like to know is what type of glasses you have, because they have a blue shine on it.@@JonGadget
Jon what watch are you wearing?
There's not much here that I don't like and there's a surprising amount which tugs at my ever tightening purse strings.
The wingback fountain pen is lovely. Do they do a converter? Ie a reusable ink cartridge you can fill yourself. I love my fountain pens but always use a converter to avoid any single use plastic.
I think you should be able to use an off the shelf one perhaps?
Thanks @nathski22! We don't do our own converter yet I'm afraid, but the barrel is sealed so you can use an eyedropper to fill it directly (just try to use an ink with too low a PH level). Hope that helps!
Great content as always.. may I ask what the bit driver is on the keycaps section. ?
Thank you - sorry I'm not sure what you mean keycaps section?
@@JonGadget Typo... The crazy horse keycase
Klasse Video, ein Zippo mit Messer, das wäre eine super Idee!!!
Gruss 😀👍
I hope you take some time to pat yourselves on the back, knowing you make excellent content and you truly entertain people that some could really use that 20 minute segment of just chilling and listening to a guy with a great accent talking about his hobby 😊
Thanks Eyal, appreciated.
The compass isn't just useful for the great outdoors! I was in London last week and had to get to various locations - Google Maps only accurately tells you if you're going in the right direction when you're walking, sometimes for quite a bit until the GPS stops "canyoning" and works out that you're moving. 3 times when I came out of places I went the wrong way initially because the map took time to work out direction. The 4th time I took to opening the compass app just to orient myself before heading off. Also GPS on my motorbike is often pointing the wrong way until you start moving. I keep thinking I need a little compass on my jacket or bag strap to prevent these minor annoyances!
Good thinking!
I wish Vessi would ship to the UK!
They will be reading this.....so 🤞
The crazy horse would make an awesome travel companion to Japan. The ability to store a suica card on the outside of a
What's basically a big coin pouch is super smart. I would still carry a bill fold with my ID and everything, but I'll probably pick one of those up for my next trip to Tokyo.
Quick trip to hull? What did you think of the bridge?
I saw it being built! I live close by 👍
The winged back fountain pen doesn’t show the refill cartridges I waould like to order. Can you help me with this?!
Hey Henry, the fountain pen will fit an international stantandard 38mm cartridge. Hope that helps!
Not seeing the RovyVon anywhere in your link with a copper finish?
link seems to work?
@@JonGadget I am in Canada, your link takes me to the A3 anodized aluminum finish. I searched their site for “A9 copper” and got no response?
I like the Zippo insert idea but they missed a trick not making a dedicated bit storage for numerous bits, instead of a combined driver with a few bits.
Bit drivers are everywhere but a compact, neat bit storage solution is a harder problem to solve.
I agree!
Hi Jon
I’ve contacted Vessi on a number of occasions & they tell me they don’t deliver to the UK. Any suggestions for getting their products?
Cheers
Paul
P.S. I always look forward to you reviews, they are very good & informative.
Thanks for the feedback - I'm hoping they will open up to the UK too
Why do you feature so much kit that is not available in the UK?
Do you have a "Hip-Flask" Review video?
I am personally looking for a flask for EDC that can hold all kinds of liquor. ano Water Alcohol, Soda and Coffee.
I have looked at Options like...
"Gennissy 304 18/8 which holds small cups at Amazon.
"Wingbacks Hip Flask" which is is easy to clean.
"Ragpropers's Hip Heavy use Glass Flask" which insures the taste of the liquor isnt ruined by usually used metall frames.
All are great options but none seem to hit the perfect balance since all options seems to still have either heavy flaws in their designs or lack critical features.
Can you help find the ultimate Hip Flask for me? :)
it's going to require some research.....
@@JonGadgetoof, what is a man to do over Christmas hey ? 😂
Damn it Jon you got my hopes up .. i thought this meant Vessi had a UK outlet
I'm hoping they will service the UK soon - sorry to get your hopes up
👍👍👍👍👍
Been wanting a Zippo Bitsafe for ages but they’re a nightmare to get hold of in the UK. Some chancer on Amazon is selling one for 55 English quid’s worth of pounds 🤨
Check out Ebay
@@JonGadgetDude, totally forgot eBay was a thing. Just ordered one, thanks! 🫡
I like the base but I wish it had magnetic charging for phone and watch
The Coal Miner knife is beautiful, but totally ruined by the ghastly printed blade !
WTF were they thinking ?
agree!
Unfortunately Vessi are still not shipping to the UK :(
Hoping that will change 🤞
20:55 “keeps your keys away from your phone screen”.. 😬 but there’s like a metal buckle and a button next to your screen now 🙈
I reckon brass curved press stud surface better than a set of sharp edged keys
Ohhhh. That zippo insert looks amazing. I can't wait to get one, but its not really available in the uk, unless you pay way too much, or a little too much but buy it from someone re-selling it to make a profit.
A 4 bit screwdriver would be perfect for me though. The only bits i use frequently are; a t8, a t6, a large flat head, and a JIS bit.
try eBay
The Marbles compass is fine for general walking about. No, you can't use this and a map for orienteering, but it will keep you from walking in the wrong direction down a city street.
Never buy a compass from Tates. Those are less than useless, they are a menace. Remember the old adage: "He who has a Tates is lost."
I'll just let myself out, thank you.
Seriously, though, I have wanted a small compass like this every time I ride the London Underground. I pop up out of whatever exit the scrum is taking me to. There isn't a single street I know of in The City that runs North/South or East/West, and the tall buildings block which direction the sun is coming from. I don't wish to admit how often I have wandered off in the wrong direction for a block or two.
A coin pocket is really vintage
there you go!
With a knife such as this, one would not be out of step wearing sleeve garters, a Bowler, suspenders and, when buying a new suit, ordering 2 pairs of pants. I do like those older styles of knives but I don’t wish to be a slave to sentimentality. In other words, if I can’t deploy the blade with one hand, it the remains in my drawer.
I was very interested in the flask. Until I heard the price… 😂
I nearly spat my whisky out!😂
yes - quite niche but very nice
Just realised I am from a bygone era......
me too
Barebones Railroad Lantern would be a great home decor feature, if it had the ability to become a smart device
Not everything has to be "smart" and have Bluetooth and WiFi, its a lantern for god's sake....
@@turnoff7572 Of course you are correct. Sorry for offering my opinion. However, it is not an opinion that the lantern is not practical nor efficient for camping use.
@@FA-RACE-TEAMdon't you realise that in todays climate you are not allowed an opinion.
for everyday home use it might require a more permanent power source which would be tricky I think
Why the hell would you remove the functions of a zippo to replace them with a non lighter, this makes zero sense 😦
given up smoking?
@@JonGadget if you've given up smoking then you don't need to carry a Zippo at all so a better hex bit kit will be best in your pack / bag which empties your pockets. If it had a knife blade in there I might see how that would work despite it falling foul of the concealed weapon laws ;)
When did you become American?
Why did the people of England vote for knife restrictions?
They didn’t - laws get passed without public consultation
@@JonGadget Is there a David versus Goliath movement to repeal those laws?
Dont see a glizzy in your edc
is that good or bad?
ugh, vessi.
I have a question for Jon. I commented, and was answered by someone. Now my comment has disappeared. My question is this...do you delete comments that don't praise your sponsors etc? I was not impressed with Hennie Haynes, and recommended another seller. Is that why my comment was deleted?
If this is the case, you do realise that your commercial appeal to sponsors depends on the number of subscribers you have, don't you?
You get the inference, I am sure.
If he deleted the comment, what makes you think he wouldn't delete this one? It was probably an automated thing. Unsub if you want. Quit looking for attention.
We didn't delete your comment, we only delete spam and abuse, did you put a hypelink? if so it's possible youtube removed it. PS Hennie didn't sponsor this video
@@DeCapitanOG at 60 years old, do you, as a millennial, honestly think I need attention? What a muppet 🤣
@@JonGadget no hyperlink. Am always happy to see you come up with a new video. Was majorly pissed off to see my genuine concern deleted though. So my question was legitimate; however you always get a knob (aka @DeCapitanOG) who has to put his 2p in.
Zippo creates a lighter screwdriver!! You just can't make this stuff up and, I suppose there are actually people who will buy this junk. Incredibly, people exist that will promote these crazy things on TH-cam. OMG!
