Chicken Xacuti is a delicious Goan Cuisine known as Goan Chicken Curry. An all-time favorite authentic goan chicken curry. Xacuti is actually pronounced as “SHAKUTI” derived from the Portuguese word “CHACUTI”. The xacuti is unique among goan curries. This is a perfect chicken curry for the weekend which is packed with Flavors.
Ingredients
For Coriander Green Paste:
Fresh Coriander Leaves - 1 Cup
Green Chillies - 2nos
Garlic cloves - 15nos
Ginger - 2inch
Oil - 2tsp.
Water - 2 tbsp.
For Chicken Marinate:
Chicken - 500gm (1/2 kg)
Salt - 1tsp.
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp.
Lemon - ½
Green paste
Coconut Masala Paste:
Freshly grated coconut - 1 small size
Roughly chopped onion - 2 medium sizes
Roughly chopped tomato - 1 medium size
Garlic cloves - 12nos
Ginger - 11/2 inch
Oil - 2 tbsp.
Turmeric powder - 1tsp.
Homemade garam masala/ readymade chicken masala - 4tsp.
For chicken xacuti:
Oil - 3 tbsp.
Finely chopped garlic cloves - 5nos
Finely chopped ginger - 1inch
Finely chopped onion - 2 medium sizes
Finely chopped tomato - 1 medium size
Chicken Maggi cube (optional) - 1no
Fresh coriander leaves
Salt as per taste
Water as per requirement
Method/Preparation:
Step 1:
Chicken Marinates. (Coriander Green Paste)
Heat a pan, and add 2tsp.oil once’s oil heats add garlic cloves, ginger, and green chilies, and saute until the ginger and garlic aroma is realized. Add fresh coriander leaves saute for a minute, and allow it to cool for some time. Now transfer it into a grinder jar and add 2 tbsp. water and make a fine paste.
Step 2:
In a bowl add chicken pieces (cleaned and washed thoroughly). Add salt, turmeric powder, squeeze ½ lime and coriander green paste, mix it well. let it marinate for about ½ an hour.
Step 3:

In the same pan, heat 2 tbsp. oil. Add ginger and garlic and saute till the aroma is realized. Add onion and saute until it's translucent, add tomato and saute till it's soft, now add grated coconut, and saute till its turns in golden in color or until the aroma is realized.
Allow it to cool for some time, transfer it to a mixer jar, add turmeric powder and homemade garam masala or readymade chicken masala. ½ cup water (add water as required) and make a medium fine paste.
Step 3:

Heat 3 tbsp oil in a kadai/pot, add chopped ginger and garlic saute for a minute, add chopped onion and saute till it's translucent, and tomato saute it for some time. Add marinated chicken, increase the flame to high & saute for a minute. Turn the flame to low heat, and cover the lid. Cook chicken until done or for about 8 to 10 minutes. Stir occasionally in between. Now add ground masala coconut paste add require water and adjust the consistency.
Cover and cook for another 4 to 5 minutes, add nonveg Maggi cube, stir for a minute, cover, and cook for 5 minutes. Add salt as per taste, and stir it for a minute. Cook for some time. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
Chicken xacuti is ready to serve. Serve it with hot steamed rice, chapati, or bread.
