Goan Chicken Xacuti Recipe by Chef Smita Deo

- Chicken Shakuti
INGREDIENTS:
1 kg Chicken
1 tsp of garlic paste
1 tsp of ginger paste
Salt to taste
1/2 tsp of turmeric powder
Juice of half a lemon
1 tbsp Coriander seeds
10 cloves
1 tsp pepper
1” cinnamon
A small piece of nutmeg,
1 tsp fennel
1 star annise
1 mace
10 bedgi chillies
1 tsp poppy seeds
3 medium sliced onions
1 or 2 tbsp of oil
1/2 cup of fresh grated coconut
2-4 tbsp of oil
3 finely chopped onions
1 tsp of ginger paste
1 tsp of garlic paste
3 finely chopped tomatoes
1 litre water
1 cup of thick coconut milk
METHOD:
Take 1 kg Chicken
Add 1 tsp of garlic paste
1 tsp of ginger paste
Salt to taste
1/2 tsp of turmeric powder
Juice of half a lemon
Mix it well and rest the chicken for 1/2 an hour
For Masala,
Roast
1 tbsp Coriander seeds
10 cloves
1 tsp pepper
1” cinnamon
A small piece of nutmeg,
1 tsp fennel
1 star annise
1 mace
10 bedgi chillies
Shut the flame and add 1 tsp poppy seeds
Roast 3 medium sliced onions in the kadhai till it gets dehydrated
Add 1 or 2 tbsp of oil and sauté for 2 minute
Add 1/2 cup of fresh grated coconut
Roast this mixture till onions and coconut becomes brown
Shut the flame, add all the roasted spices into the onion-coconut kadhai, let all the ingredients cool down and then fine it into a fine paste with very little water
Heat 2-4 tbsp of oil
Add 3 finely chopped onions and sauté it till soft and translucent
Add 1 tsp of ginger paste and 1 tsp of garlic paste
Sauté it for a minute
Add 3 finely chopped tomatoes
Sauté it till they are soft and mushy
Add 1/2 cup of water
After onion and tomatoes are cooked, add the marinated chicken, sauté it on a high flame on 4-5 minutes
Add 1/2 lt of water
Mix it well, cover it and cook for 10-15 minutes
Add onion-coconut-spice ground paste after 10 minutes, mix it well
Rinse the mixing jar with 1/2-1 cup of water, add it to the chicken
Add another 1/2 cup of water, give it a good stir, cover and cook on a medium-low flame till the chicken is done
Add 1 cup of thick coconut milk, stir it well and gently
Shut the flame and serve with rice/chapati/bread of your choice

This is Karwari style chicken curry,goes best with rice. No vinegar added but for sournes tomato are added. Good presentation. Thanks

Quite similar to Kerala style Varathu Aracha curry minus the second round of Onions, Ginger Garlic paste and Coconut milk.

you are totally wrong. in gsb xacuti green masala paste is must for marination. coconut cream is also not used generally. you have been totally mislead. sorry . no offense meant.
I think you missed what she mentioned before even she started recipe. You need to come out of the thick blanket. Things change, recipe evolves. You have a choice to accept it or discard it which you did (no offense…). I think she did awesome job in representing. I personally don’t care about the label whether it is chicken xacuti, chicken moghalai, chicken amritsari or whatever as long as there is something new to learn and something to put on table for family who is going to appreciate you like anything.
@@jbhatt5920 dear bhat mam . don't teach me my daily food. dog is called dog and donkey is called donkey. in goa we don't need thick blankets. like i mentioned , she has been misled. don't screw with traditional recipes. stick to your upma and chitrana. i know you are offended. but trust me , it is better to be a fool for a day than remain a fool for a life time.

1. You assumed that I am a lady just because I talked about serving food for a family
2. You also assumed that people from goa would want to stick with original recipe with no change

Sorry but one of most disgusting looking dish xacuti I’ve seen. Inedble.. unless off course I am starved for a few days.. food has to look good and edible first. Don’t know about u guys..
