      Can i just change my oil every year at max of 3,000 miles,with half decent oil,not cheap oil? ie Magnatec here in the UK.

    Funny dramatization scene haha but you're right Andy! I used to pay $45/oil change at my local shop. After going there twice I wanted to learn to change it myself and save money, and I've been changing it myself for the past four years at no more than $23-$24/oil change. That's almost half price! And I can guarantee that my car gets the oil I want to put in it.

    I am learning these things on my own so I can do it myself when I need to. I am 16 and know nothing abt vehicles but I'm trying to learn by myself bc I can prove to people I can learn on my own if I have the will to do it.

    Good tip about pan location. A friend drained the transmission fluid on his wife's car by accident. Was in a hurry he said. Boy did that cost him after he filled it with engine oil. First and last time he has changed the oil by himself 😝.

    I feel like you're overcomplicating it...
    Oil drain 101.
    1. Use a socket 1 size too big.
    2. Strip plug corners.
    3. Change to correct socket.
    4. Loosen plug, taking care to hit knuckles against sharp metal edge.
    5. Unscrew plug carefully by hand.
    6. Drop plug into drain pan, ensuring whole hand and arm gets covered in oil.
    7. Hastily reposition drain pan so that oil shoots over it onto floor.
    8. Reposition drain pan, making sure that the last bit of oil will again miss it and drip on floor.
    (PS: For oil filter removal, follow the same process, also making sure that oil filter falls into drain pan and splashes oil out onto floor.)

    Canister tip: A bit of oil in the actual filter before putting it on will help it get closer to where it needs to be when checking it after turning it off.

    Make sure that the drainage vessel is big enough to hold the oil. :) Mercedes go for 6 litres +, so don't assume an oil can with the side cut out will work. :) It must also be rigid, or you'll have a right mess very shortly. Also, think ahead as to how you will get the oil out of the drainage vessel into the disposal container and what that will be. It might be possible to use a sump pump down the dipstick hole. Easy, if possible. Been here, done it a thousand times. :)

    Most times the oil filter can be twisted off by hand. But yeah sometimes a He-Man might over-tighten it.

    I know its probably not recommended, but would it be okay just once to refill my oil without draining the previous oil or changing the filter? Asking because Im in a tight financial spot this month and dont want to have to spend extra money and time going out to buy sockets, wrenches, and oil drain pan, a filter, etc.

    i have a ford focus and mine is low .even though i am tech in a shop i still like to do my oil change at home on ramps rather then go to the shop on my days off to use the lift. im at the shop every day and you just need a break from being there . now i do not understand why people mix up the oil and trans pan. with most cars there are a series of a lot of bolts going around the trans pan and one bolt for the oil pan like mine

    ask
    Why does my car say it needs an oil change?
    The oil pump may not be circulating enough oil to keep the engine's parts lubricated and functioning properly, which can in turn cause multiple engine issues. Although receiving oil changes at regular intervals should prevent this problem from occurring, parts do wear over time..

    Have an issue now, since I am going to change my own oil the last company seemed to use an impact driver to tighten up my oil plug any advise how to loosen it? I do not have access is an impact driver and honestly not a weak person just do not want to make the vehicle fall even still using jack stands lol....

    • @AutoFixYT
      @AutoFixYT 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Use a breaker bar, that's the only way if you don't have an impact and it's that tight. If you don't have a breaker bar put a pipe on a ratchet, or maybe try hammering on the ratchet to simulate the impacting motion. Or use a wrench and a hammer, or use the double wrench method. Hope this helps! And I hope the threads on the pan are good!

    • @qgtm91

      Yea use a breaker bar bro

    • @qgtm91
      @qgtm91 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@AutoFixYT I wouldn’t recommend hammering a ratchet lol but putting a long nipple or pipe that fits on over the other end of a breaker bar or open end works just fine

    If the oil filter is at the top you should always undo this first to let it drain.
    This video is wrong, he should have kept the sump plug out and then undone the filter.
    If you do an oil change you’ll see what I mean, once you undo the top filter you’ll see the oil drain from it
