The Miniature Poodle is part of the Poodle breed of dogs, and differs from the Standard Poodle only in size. The breed is of European origin, but its earliest ancestors are believed to have been curly-haired herding dogs of Central Asia. These evolved into a German water dog, which were then standardized in France. The Standard Poodle was being used on the European mainland for several centuries as a water retriever in hunting before it reached England, and has been depicted in German, French and Spanish art beginning from the 15th century. The Miniature Poodle was developed some time after the Standard version, and was not used near water. Crossing a terrier with a Standard Poodle produced the Miniature variety, which found use as excellent truffle hunters, and as companions for the upper class. The breed’s entry into North America is likely to have been in the 1800s, with the French aristocracy. Since then, the breed has been very popular as a pet and as a show dog.

The height of an adult Miniature Poodle is between 10 and 15 inches, and the weight is between 12 and 18 pounds. The Poodle is an elegant, well-proportioned dog, with a curly, dense coat that can be clipped or corded. The coat is always single layered. The skull is moderately rounded; the cheekbones and muscles are flat. Ears are folded over close to the head. The eyes are dark and oval shaped, with an alert and intelligent expression. The feet are rather small, sometimes giving the appearance of the dog walking on stilettos. The colors seen include white, black, brown, grey, apricot, red, silver, cream, sable and brindle.
Grooming: Coat care for Miniature Poodles being maintained for shows can take at least 10 hours per week. The coats of non-show or retired dogs are generally cut down to low-maintenance length. The dog does not shed much, and the hair it does shed tends to get entangled with surrounding hair to form tufts and mats. This still requires brushing once daily. Other activities like brushing of teeth, cleaning of ears and trimming of nails have to be regular.
Environment: The Poodle is a friendly and sociable dog, and loves being around humans. Miniature Poodles tend to be slightly shy, especially around strangers. Compared to the Standard variety, they are also found to be slightly less patient with children. But, this is more a result of the dog being afraid of a child that is larger in size than any innate aggression.
Training: The Poodle is a very intelligent dog, and can easily be trained and taught tricks. It is also an active breed, and enjoys being given work to do. Daily play session and a long walk is needed to keep a Poodle happy. The dog also loves to swim, which can take care of some of the exercise needs.
Health: Miniature Poodles live longer than Standard Poodles on average, with a life expectancy between 13 and 15 years. Common ailments seen are bone related issues, epilepsy, cataract, glaucoma and bloat. Cancer is a common cause of death. Addison’s Disease, a kidney related problem, is also common in Poodles.

Its just like the reason why same breeds tend to have different colours, such as the poodle. Its just different variations of the breed. However, the shorter the snout the better the chance it is being a pure breed. People sometimes mix poodles with other breeds such as shi'tsus, so if you want a pure breed look for the shorter snouts
I agree with SVDVlogs a lot of the seeming difference is in the clip. The long muzzle is going to be quite evident in any clip in which the muzzle has been shaved. I additionally suspect that some or many of the "short" snouted dogs here are *puppies* -- puppies of all breeds are comparatively short-muzzled.

Your claim that a short-snouted dog is more likely to be a purebred poodle is total nonsense -- especially since you point out that poodles can be mixed
with Shih Tzus, which are an extremely short-snouted breed! Any adult poodle which has a short or even medium length muzzle (proportionately) is either a fake poodle, or deformed/very badly bred. The same is true, btw, with the short-legged toy poodles which are sometimes seen. Poodles have a square build, with fairly long legs in proportion to their body size.

Yes...I just commented on something he said, also that is not true. Full blooded poodles are not 'mixed' with ANY other breed of dog to achieve the size differences.

Varvara Uru hey she’s 5months old now, she’s been really good up until now shes experiencing gastritis I believe so xrays and mediciations/vet diet has been a little costly I would probably recommend a mixed breed poodle, I’m hearing that pure breeds are more prone to sicknesses. Good luck on getting one they’re so smart and playful and very easy to love!

We just got a mini poodle he’s 6 weeks old and soo sooo cuddly and calm(for now) super chilled. He’s so small but we can already see his obedience as he comes when called as opposed to our mutt who ignores us when called 😂

The thing with any mixed breed is they aren't an established 'breed' with standard traits. All you can do is look at information on both parent breeds and know that which of those traits your dog gets will be random.
seriously a TERRIER was crossed with a Standard to get the miniature. THEN I'm now NO LONGER going to get a miniature. I have a toy poodles. I only like poodles because they don't shed. As a highly allergic person the poodle is my friend, but if there's terrier in him - i don't know.... why has no-one ever told us that. What's in my toy poodle that I don't know of.. I always heard that it's simply bred down or up.
Chloe7 Seven He was wrong. There was no crossing with a terrier. In make up, poodles are exactly the same; only size determines if they’re standard, miniature or toy.
Another glaring error in this video-a white dog pictured when he describes the poodles eye shape is a bichon with very round eyes! It also looks to me like he’s used miniatures AND toys in this video. I adopted two female litter mates when their breeder died. They were three at the time. They are lovely, devoted dogs who never take their eyes off me. They love all people, but especially babies and kids. They are now over 12 and in very good health.
