The saddest part about Polities’s death is that Odysseus was right, it’s trusting the lotus eaters that killed him.
But think about what would have happened if they didn't trust the lotus eaters they starve and if they aye the lotus they got hypnotized so between getting hypnotized most of them dying or all of them dying what would you chose
😢 Polites is such a gentle soul. He still thinking about kindness even in the underworld 😭.

Idk, it really hurts to picture how hard Odysseus froze when he realized Polyphemus had a club. He had a whole battle plan done and, the moment he realized he didn't considered a weapon being a possibility and that costing him his men, he completely forgot he was a general or that he was a soldier. He was just scared

ironic how oddseyus believed that after defeating Polyphemus it would be the end of their adventure. Especially when blinding and stealing from Polyphemus is exactly what leads Posiden(his father) to hold a grudge so great against oddyseus that he was forced to wander for 10 years on the seas.
Probably it was going to be the end since they wouldn't have other crazy shit to go through, but then bro was like "L, my name is Odysseus, cope and seethe" and Polyphemus just went "Fuck you. I hope you become homeless"
Killing him would have really been the end, but he didn't kill him. Cause he didn't kill, Poseidon found out about their encounter and Odysseus blinded Polyphemus and that was the reason for all his troubles and the death of his crew that comes after.

And yep ur totally right, also completely forgot about how Polyphemus cried out to his father Poseidon after and then alerted him to what Odysseus had done. Kinda the whole point between the exchange between Athena and Odysseus. Oops :p

Truth be told having at least one post trauma survivor come back with Odysseus would have made more sense. I can't help but doubt the story when only one comes out of this and it's the captain.
There are survivors he works with them in the next song to escape

@tsunoko ah it was in a Zelda Edit I saw on TikTok that was a mashup of AoC, BotW, and TotK. It was STUNNING though I don't remember if it has a specific name.

@@dyegoeduardosantossilva3659 oh no yeah I get it. Most sheep are domesticated though (unless I'm horribly wrong), but they are used as food sources which give Odysseus and his crew reasonable doubt. I must add though that In the original Odyssey, iirc Polyphemus was of a dual nature, being caring with his sheep but violent with people, so the sheep did have an emotional significance to him, hence his line in the song Polyphemus, "You killed my sheep, my favorite sheep"

afaik, Polites is still with the crew in Circe's island...
In the actual myth, he did in fact remain alive, and did play a role during their journey in Circe's Island (and he was killed much later, either by Zeus or by Scylla) but in this song they decided to change the story and have him eaten by Polyphemus instead.

IF me and the person that made this video made that mistake then it would have been an honest mistake because sometimes it is hard to hear what the cyclops is saying. I commented the lyrics for a reason a reason that was good enough to spend a hour of my time. I don’t have to explain anything to you. I don't know where you heard me being rude, just stating a fact. Not only do I hear "deed" but the person who introduced me this song is the one who pointed it out the first time. I assumed you were writing it down from a different source, but since you listed it as pain, erroneous or not, I had my own personal reasons to believe you straight-up took it from the vid. And never implied there being anything wrong with that, just redundant.
Geez, it's true when they say people get offended way too easily online.
EDIT: it is kind of a big deal too. If the Cyclops says "pain", then it means he's killing in self-defense. But if he says "deed", it tells us the men had a legit reason to attack it, as they were defending their civilization from an actual threat.

this song is from a musical based on the odyssey. basically what’s happening is odysseus and his crew have accidentally entered a cyclops’s cave and they’re fighting him. at the end of the song Polyphemus kills a bunch of his crew and he’s sad. hope this helps :DD
they were traveling and were low on supplies so they sent a group to find food to feed 600 people and what they find are a cyclops’s sheep not knowing there is a sleeping cyclops in the cave and that the other cyclops is pissed thinking one other killed his pet sheep's

I don’t really have a lot of context on this musical I just found it and loved the song however I don’t fully understand what happened can someone explain to me plz?
this musical is based on the odyssey and focuses on the morality of odysseus' actions. the first saga describes how the trojan war has ended and odysseus is trying to go back home to ithaca. his crew needs supplies so they head to a cave to find food. however, the cave happens to be the home of a cyclops named polyphemus and in this song they fight him and one of odysseus' close friends and many of his comrades die. hope this helps ^^
