Athena is the goddess of Wisdom and Battle Strategy, which is different from war. Yes she's considered a war goddess but it's not her main goddess deed. In fact, Aphrodite is also a war goddess in Roman mythology
I don't know if anyone's ever pointed it out but in Warrior of the Mind when Athena sings "he is a Warrior of the Mind", MIND is just one note, then when she duets with Odysseus, he introduces a more melodic way of saying it, which she adopts when "We are the Warriors of the Mind" is repeated. Here, at the end she sings "This is my goodbye" in the same melodic way, but when she repeats the line at the very end, it reverts back to the one note, which to me translates as her getting Odysseus out of her system

Edit: Pallas was the daughter of Triton who was raised together with Athena. Athena killed her in a spar after Pallas was distracted by her father, having thrust her spear forward, expecting her to dodge, it instead went straight through Pallas's heart. In her remorse, Athena built a statue in Pallas's likeness and named it Palladium.

@SRPSKI GANG I couldn't tell you. I went through a Greek mythology phase a few years ago, and Athena was one of my favorites, so it stuck. If you google "Pallas Athena myth," though you'll probably find it.

At the end of the day, both were in the wrong.
I think Odysseus has a point though. He pointed out that anytime someone dies, Athena kinda acts like " oh, it's just another day and another soul lost." While he has to deal with losing his friends in battles. He has to deal with the fact that he couldn't do anything to save them. Athena also kinda got mad at him for having emotions like that's what makes him human, ma'am. But in a way , I can see Athena's side too but I can't really relate to hers except for liking being alone to an extent.
Athena’s a goddess, so for her, it is just another day. Athena gets mad at him because he doesn’t listen and loses friends as a result. She’s frustrated, because had he thought logically and listened to her, he wouldn’t have lost friends and wouldn’t have to deal with this grief. That’s why she mocks his emotions, because he listen to them and did something stupid.
I mean what you expect she is a goddess and he is just a man. Anyway he is indeed foolish, after all of his friends dead because of his foolishness. In the end she is indeed wise.

Don't make fun Athena , all the gods are one , we should respect every God . First of all I am actually not a romanian but I still respect every God
She is so pained and I feel the wrenching, raw emotion. And Odysseus has clearly been fed up for so long, he pours bottled agitation into his words. They’re so incredible at stressing every little detail to the finest point- it feel so real! It just grips your heart and pulls you through the story, passing you back and fourth between the different versions of grief and pain. I’M SO OBSESSED Y’ALL 😭

@@licas3214 She doesn't want to end it. The reason she's ending it is because Odysseus is refusing to stick to the mold she's created for him, even when she herself is now confronting him.

@@licas3214 Continue it, fs. The reason she's mad is because, in refusing to kill Polyphemus, Odysseus is essentially saying, "I no longer like your methods. I don't want to follow them." If Odysseus had admitted fault (going back to kill Polyphemus) then he would've been following Athena's orders: he would've been the perfect warrior Athena has been creating. But instead, he refused.

I love- ABSOLUTELY LOVE- when previous songs in an album are used to drive in a point and bring a further emphasis, or alter the meaning of certain lyrics. Please, when "Just a man" (2:26) played for that one line I absolutely fell in love because that prior hesitation in that song is being used against him to show just how unprepared she believes him to be. AHHHHHHHHHHH
I lose my mind at that line.
Like musically it’s one of my favorite tricks but the meaning of the line “just a man” has changed so much. When he sings it, he’s lamenting his limited power, struggling with defining his own morality, asking for forgiveness for not being more than he is.
When she sings it, he has found his morality. He has the conviction he wanted, and asks no forgiveness. She says it to him not only to remind him of his previous weakness, but to remind him of his place. You’re just a human, you who would sink to personal insults in argument with a goddess. I also think she’s reminding herself. He’s just a human, just a man, and she never should’ve expected anything more of him.
It’s literally genius.

I kind of hope she’d sing the line, but her letting the ensemble do it further adds insult to injury because it’s almost like she’s so done with him, he isn’t even worth finishing the sentence.

The sad part is that you can feel the hurt in athenas voice in the "one day" segment after her calls her all alone. Reminds me of an anguished parent or something idk

@@georgie3675 Not necessarily _as_ hard as some claim (see literally any musical theater performer who uses a wheelchair) but it is generally harder than singing while standing up due to how your core muscles affect your breathing. This is also why singing well while laying down is impressive. It's really interesting, and I'm sure I'm not explaining it right so I encourage you to look it up for yourself to get better details.

Remember Athena does come back to help Odysseus in the end but i do think this was a deep cut dealt by each of them to one another. Athena teaches Tact and Wisdom, whereas Odysseus cared about the people he lost (although its kind of his crews fault, except the cyclops, thats all of Odysseus 😅)

Odysseus is a human… he can’t turn off his emotions, but he wasn’t using his intelligence, and Athena suggested he basically be heartless. But he can’t.
Athena puts a lot of emphasis on the intelligence, and is right that he let his men die by using his heart, but she acts like he shouldn’t have them at all due to his intellect.

Athena is alone by choice. she took a vow of maidenhood in the early days of her goddesshood. As for her being alone apart from not having romantic interests, it's clear she holds logic and wisdom above all else as she's literally the goddess of Wisdom. There's no room for heart and sentiment when it comes to strategy, wisdom and logic. That's why she reprimanded Odyssesus for being sentimental but still it's clear she's hurt by he said and I'm sure she felt some sort of attachment towards him
Yeah, looks like Odysseus forgot Athena is one of three goddesses Aphrodite has no power over. She still has love and sentiment, but they’re right along her logic and wisdom. She doesn’t make stupid decisions in the heat of emotion. Really Odysseus should’ve thought this through.

What my favorite part of this probly is, is when before odysseus speaks back you hear a littel bit of guitar in the background but still that controlled melody more prominent woth athena but then when odysseus says what he wants to back with "this way you get what you wanted" the control is more in the back with the guitar now stringer instead to show his rebellion against her now

@Zash Gekido Personally, I think it's more tragic if Athena does lose. Yes, she's angry, but anyone can clearly hear how hurt she is. Athena wanted him to succeed and be a great "warrior of the mind." She even says you won't understand it yet, but we are done. I think we both can agree that this was a beautifully written song.
