The Martini-Henry IC1 is NOT a Worse Sparks LRR │ Hunt: Showdown

  • This week, we look at the Martini-Henry. I know a lot of people like this gun, but I see it get dragged so much on the subreddit. I understand, snipers don't want to lead as much, but is the Martini really the sniper's weapon? MAYBE if people understand the Martini, they will use it more effectively.

    Can I just say, I love the Hunt dev team, but the whole Hunt repository for guides is horrible. Trying to see specific numbers is so difficult. I hope they improve that.

    Small revision: I forgot to include Steady Aim as the trait that would benefit the MH when using a scope. So be sure to look for that perk if you are taking a scope! Also incendiary has less penetration, oops!

      Not a Walrus that’s a good idea, I think just to start of the series, if Reel wants to continue it, he should make a top ten list or something similar. Gives new players a good introduction to the guns as well.
      Edit: also a video about the different spread patterns of shotguns, handcanons and their variants could be interesting.

    I would argue that taking one slot of explosive ammo while using the riposte is actually a very fun and useful idea. I use it to breach and clear buildings by blasting open one of the doors with the explosive ammo and then charging the guy I know around a corner with the bayonet. Same with taking out pesky window shutters while your team-mate cooks a grenade to throw in.

      It also helps with finishing off hunters that conceal after getting hit for 143. Why shoot blindly into bushes/wall, when you can just fire an explosive shot? It might not hit hard, but you don't need a lot to finish them off.

    There’s a couple things I think you missed because I love the Martini. Firstly hipfire, simply really tight and reliable. Second no hammer, the sparks has that huge hammer that blocks a considerable amount of your view when aiming the Martini does not. Finally and one of the most important point is that it shares the same velocity as the uppercut, so by using the Martino your training your proficiency with the uppercut and if you can use the uppercut you can use the martini

Which is the martini's problem it sits in the odd middle ground between being a proper long range rifle and just being a springfield without the hammer blocking your vision slightly.

    • @Eseerrowez
      @Eseerrowez 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@valkerionrides9879 the Springfield can only 2 tap up to around 75m, past that it looses its damage capabilities. It also loses its capabilities to 1 shot someone whos already been downed once really quick. It loses that almost right after 20 meters when it starts if they lose a 25, and a 50 is around 40 meters. A martini doesn't start losing damage until 40 meters. so it can 1 tap much further out. and fighting with a bit of range can usually mean that someone gets picked up again. Being able to one shot them in the chest is a really nice bonus. ITs not hard to keep 20 meters away from a target in a lot of fights.
      faster velocity doesn't make it better necessarily either. If you're not practiced with the speed then you still won't hit much, and there are almost no guns that match that bullet velocity. This also means that any gun you bring with you as a backup does not mix well with it as you shoot and then swap and have to deal with a much different velocity. At least the martini is close to whatever sidearm you switch to so its not like you're having to compensate much differently.

    • @valkerionrides9879
      @valkerionrides9879 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Eseerrowez Which is exactly what im saying by your logic the only reason to pick the Martini over the springfield is for a small niche that exists by being maybe 15-20m away otherwise just use the sparks if your fighting at real distance right? a niche that wouldn't even exist if they moved medium ammo up to 30 like it should be.
      the whole second part is just fluff really because its false most of the pistols are closer to 300 or below not 400 cept for the uppercut and you wouldn't really be using an uppercut with the martini you would want speed like the officer/bornheim so your compensating no matter what.

    Martini has always been frowned upon, but I love it. Three more things to add though that I feel are important, but not visible in stats. 1) its much shorter, when in compounds and such, aim a sparks and see just how far out the window it sticks. 2) the muzzle velocity is basically the same as a Winfield and Karabiner, so if you like swapping to these guns ever or running levering or an insanely fast Iron Sharpshooter gun, the muzzle velocity is the same. Oh its also the same as the uppercut if you like to run that as a secondary. 3) the sights... man oh man I feel like I can see much more with Martini sights, I hate the hammer and that recessed sight the sparks has. 4) this is a bonus though you did mention the riposte, its the strongest and longest melee attachment to a weapon in the game, just beating out bayonets (uses less stam too, and has a powerful light attack, replacing knife completely). Imo the Martini is the ultimate work horse long ammo rifle, the only thing it really isn't as good as is those compound to compound shots where muzzle velocity makes a big difference.

    Huge fan of the martini, and I feel like it gets ignored too often for the sparks.
    It's got my favourite scope in the game (deadeye), and honestly having that stabbing stick wins a shocking number of gunfights.
    Rushing someone right around a corner? Hit em with the stab-you got silent shotgun functionality AND one of the best midrange guns in the game.
    Big fan of bringing explosive rounds on one half as well-less as a killing thing, and more as a breaching tool. Plus, since you start with so many shots you aren't totally hobbled by giving up some of your ammo.

    While I do believe bullet speed matters a lot, what martini does literally better than sparks is that martini is an expert when it comes to versatility while sparks is more stronger at longer distances and sniping, martini-henry is a gun that does not fear to push and challenge. Let me add that it also has really good variants compared to sparks.

    Something people don't mention about the martini is that it shares its bullet velocity with the Winfield rifles, which are great budget options and also great for beginners learning the game. This makes it way easier to practice on the Winfield for cheap and then transition to the martini when you find yourself good enough at the game to really benefit from the advantages of long ammo

Let me ask you this: Is there anything in this game that, when applied in practical scenarios, does less than 7 damage? Even less than 10? The Martini has just as much killing power in the same scenarios with still plenty of wiggle room.

    I agree on everything but not on the explosive ammo. Half normal and half explosive makes the martini (especially the riposte one) one of the most versatile weapon in the game. Splash damage behind a cover, finish of an already very injured opponent or blow istantely a barrel can really help. Paired with a gun with hight rate of fire/fanning it's a beast of a loadout. The only downside at long distances is its muzzle velocity, as you said. Against other long ammo users that keep shooting and moving fast, it becomes difficult land shots even if we are quite good with the weapon.

    I’m always surprised when people write off the Martini in favor of the Sparks, because they misunderstand a fundamental design difference in the two guns, which is seen in their stats and evident in their respective variants. While the Sparks has a suppressor and a sniper scope, the Martini has a bayonet and a deadeye (I’m ignoring the marksman). Everything about the Martini screams aggression and smashing your enemy to pieces with rapid, high damage shots. The Sparks is all about long range, precision shooting, picking off enemies with one shot kills and the like.

    • @Summonick2
      @Summonick2 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think people just value the muzzle velocity. For good aimers, velocity is really the only stat in hunt that matters very much. The martini could have a 50% faster reload and double the ammo and it would still be worse than the sparks.

    • @Summonick2
      @Summonick2 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PanzerIV88 negative. When you’re fighting someone they often strafe and make themselves hard to hit. With higher speed bullets, like the sparks, you can aim and hit something. With the Henry, at normal ranges you often have to guess, and miss. The only skill you can apply is aiming at them, but often you have to get lucky in a fight using Henry, at least much more so than with the sparks. The sparks is like 20% faster, which hits a critical breakpoint making the gun more like hitscan at normal ranges. This rewards people who are good at aiming - which is why you’ll almost never see one of the really strong hunters using a Henry. They use sparks, Mosin or lebel, for the speed.

And having that extra 6 damage is really nice I have had so many people die from fall damage because of it and any little burn or cut that is less than six will help get you a kill. I usually agree with your points, and I still believe most of your arguments hold true in this video. But I think the reload speed of one second less shouldn’t have so much emphasis on it, at least in comparison to the advantages the Sparks has. It’s important to remember that you have a sidearm, you wouldn’t be caught with your pants down while reloading and die just because reloading takes an extra second on the sparks, at that point people usually just switch to an officer or fanning pistol when being rushed and take it from there. Secondly, although I love the Martini and use it often, I feel like the pure damage the sparks has can score you some kills where you other wise wouldn’t have. It’s not unrealistic for you or an enemy to be shot from afar and be left on 2-9 hp. If you use the sparks to squeeze out even slightly more damage, it makes it a lot easier to score kills, considering if your target is already missing a smidge of health, or your teammate is shooting them at the same time, or an enemy taking fall damage after you shoot them with a sparks, and most significantly, the sparks has less of a penalty regarding limb multipliers. A leg shot from the Martini would only do 100, where as the sparks does 105, just an extra little something to think about. What I will say though, is the Martini definitely has better variants, at least in my opinion. The reach the bayonet comes in clutch and the deadeye and marksman scopes are better in most cases as opposed to the extreme sight on a sniper scope.
    Sorry for the long comment, just like to share my thoughts. In conclusion, chad level video, where the 1,000 subs at?

      This video is referring to the reload speed in the context of mid-range gunfights through cover, where this gun shines the brightest. This covers compound approach, burning up bounty campers' healing items, and general warfare between buildings and through small trees. Being able to keep pressure is way easier with the MH, and in team play pressure is everything. That's not an "I would argue" phrase, that's just the objective truth. There's no contest between the pressure provided by a MH versus a Sparks. Really the only thing the Sparks has over the MH is like you said - being able to kill guys with two large health chunks with a leg shot.
      Any time you're in close range, as in you're in the same building with someone or rushing them around the corner, you're 100% not going to be running your MH for that. You've got your sidearm or knife out.
      There's also the economy to consider, as the Sparks variants are massively expensive, comparatively.

      Totally okay to disagree Luca! This is just my perspective and some research. Not gospel. There will always be situations where the Sparks outshines the MH

      @@lidla2008 "There's no contest between the pressure provided by a MH versus a Sparks" I would argue against this. Both are great weapons for putting pressure, but the sheer damage of the sparks is enough to keep an enemy pressured down for more than the reload speed of either gun. The martini has great damage too, but there's something about literally only having a single hit point that makes enemies reluctant to stay in line of sight. Now this is a hot take, but incendiary rounds can even increase this. If you hit an enemy with an incendiary sparks, even if they heal they will be one-shot to you until every last bit of char goes away. That can be a long long while. If that isn't the best pressure in the game, I don't know what is. The lack of penetration is really painful though, so I don't do it often.

      HomeReel yeah totally, you brought up a couple good points that I never thought about before. I comment this every time but I love your content specifically because you go so in depth.

      @@thefolkbloke6656 Still, that 1 second of reload time matters a lot. With a Sparks, you shoot, attempt a sidearm followup, and then have to retread and reload. I don't know what it is exactly, but you can REALLY feel that difference. With the Martini you can actually shoot and reload right away, and still sometimes be fast enough to prevent a heal. I tried a mix of normal and FMJ rounds on it, and it worked pretty well - long FMJ disrespects cover so much that it might as well not exist. Pop them once with a normal round, they retreat to heal, you load in an FMJ and finish them off.

    this is a great vid for people experimenting with long ammo. I guess this vid isn't for me because he said "If you aren't nailing headshots then leave the sparks at home your team will thank you". I AM nailing headshots and that's why I use the sparks because once u do kill that guy in a compound fight you can easily 1 tap and keep him down for the rest of the fight. I do love martini though.

    Martini with explosive ammo is super slept on. Torso shot is a one hit kill at a surprisingly medium range. Riposte is straight up a free cavalry saber in the same slot as your primary, that custom light attack is god tier for clearing mobs
    This last point is 100% subjective but it also has my favorite iron sights in the game

      The Martini does not 1 shot to the chest with explosive ammo. The only 1 shot rifle to the torso is the nitro within 30 meters.
