    This is easily my favorite home automation channel on TH-cam. I love that you're not afraid to DIY it when there isn't a specific product that suits your needs, but you also aren't afraid to buy certain ready made components for the project if need be. Perfectly balanced. Can't wait to see what comes next!

    Next project: Building a robot that cooks the family breakfast, runs the bath, gets you dressed and provides an amazing full-body massage every evening.

    • @TheHookUp
      @TheHookUp  ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I could definitely get on board with the full body massage robot. There were a few of them at CES last year, but they weren't exactly compact (basically giant CNC machines with massage attachments).

    Thanks so much for sharing your home with us! You should be very proud of what you've put together here, it all looks great. I especially liked the inclusion of mentioning the non smart homey stuff like repurposing your spaces for guest bedrooms and the cocktail machine, your hobbies, etc.
    I hope to one day achieve something similar in my own home, and I look forward to future editions of this tour with even more great innovations!

    Between you and Linus from LinusTechTips, I swear youtubers should start their own smart home design firms, because honestly looking at new builds in 2023 it feels like most houses that are built are built by people who don't actually live in the houses they build.. It's even the simple stuff.. Ethernet in a terrible spot, rooms in bad locations so you can hear a fart in the middle of the day, absolute poor use of space.. It's insane what a little thought and consideration can do to a space and I feel like we need to have places like this actually on the market to spark innovation.

    • @YKSGuy
      @YKSGuy ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Linus extensively customized his home and somehow completely screwed up his HVAC (by passed the thermostats and tried to program it all in HA only) , smart switches by installing a wireless speaker system that interfered with them in one of the rooms when he had run custom wire for everything else.
      I would not want linus or his team designing anything in my home.

    • @goinginzane
      @goinginzane ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@YKSGuy tbf Linus will usually give the disclosure that the kinds of things he does for his channel are usually more interesting and complicated than the most logical way to do things. Something between his full-custom stuff and the out-of-the-box systems from Google, Ring, etc are the best balance IMO

    • @YKSGuy
      @YKSGuy ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@goinginzane Really till recently his server / storage / networking for his core business has also been a chaotic, unreliable mess as well..
      A gaming PC? Sure I would love him to build one and would expect good advise..
      Networking and home automation? Still don't think LLM is the right answer. They went after a Zwave switch maker for not providing firmware updates and drove them to provide them.... However.... That was not the problem with their system, they didn't read the directions / understand the modes or how to set the attributes on top of the interference issues.

    I consider myself a very detail-orientated person and thorough reviewer, and you always impress me with your finds and implementation. I've been piling more and more home automation stuff on the past two years and love it, but have to wonder how much your family is on board. But I'm not discouraged in the least!

    Any luck getting that Zemismart roller blind onto local control (assuming it's the wifi variety)? I love these, but: 1) esphome instead of tuya would be so nice and 2) via tuya, it only goes in 10% increments, which makes it hard to open/close slowly, or use it to block out a certain amount of sun. Any info on these points would be amazing!

    You should do a little vinette movie, where you use this stuff, like a day in the life thing. You wake up, command the curtains open, adjust the bed, move throughout the house, etc. Sometimes it's hard to get an idea of what it's like from just you describing what each thing does. Man, you are really all-in on this. Most of this stuff I don't even want, but it's still pretty cool. Nice work.

      For simple stuff that's definitely the case. The Tonal runs android at its core and needs video content to function, so it would be hard to free from the cloud. The Eight sleep is probably do-able, you'd lose some metrics, but I bet it would function mostly the same with a simple controller.

    Do you have any details about your “camera and lighting rig on rails” build? Specifically, I am curious about the rails and sliding mechanism. I need to build a projector slide as I have some throw ratio limitations which will require me to move my projector (a larger JVC RS400) back to increase my screen size but in doing so it would block the attic access in my theater. For the most part things are stable.
