Hi Alex, long time viewer and i also got alot of the same products you show in the video, one question i have is, have you played with home assistant? 95% of the automations and integrations are fully supported in HA, and its one App for automations, dashboard, mobileapp and integrations.

Talking about energy savings but running 3 hubs that could be replaced with homeassistant and a zigbee stick...

Honestly, ive had a fair share of issues with home assistant. Used to have a dedicated raspberry pi to controlling everything and then ran it through home assistant but it was more effort than it was worth. Anytime there was a storm or power issue even with a battery backup there were always issues. We ended up switching out a lot of stuff and just buying HomeKit available stuff and it’s been much more reliable and less of a headache. Sure we lose out on some cool products but at least it’s not a whole other chore

Doesn't he have a couple cameras hardwired? The one near the AC unit seems like it is, but I'm pretty sure you could jam the outdoor cams and turn off the main power switch and then bye bye

I just got into Aqara and, as much as I didn't want another hub (Apple Home and Homey so far) I am loving it right now!
I have the M2 hub, a dual rocker wall switch and the new Dual Relay. I just bought the Presence Sensor and can't wait to use it in my Kitchen/Family room! It's going to be perfect for switchless control of that area!

There are a few things that I would do different, for example shutting down your speakers and monitor. I don't think it's the best idea to just cut the power if it's still on. And why do you cut the power from the speakers if you could also send an IR command to them. It's probably always safer to gracefully shutdown than to cut the power.
And then the part about saving money.... All bulbs are always on. Yes they use less power when the brightness is 0%, but it's still using energy. And besides that, the bulbs cost way more than turningen them off would save you.
Our home is fully automated as well, so I still like to see how other people solved things, but I think you can do way better and even more stable than this.
Oh, and please thighten the tension on the smart blinds.

Great to see the new tech mixing with the old. I have a lot of Aqara gadgets that have replaced my Phillips Hue stuff. The only exception being the Gradient Lightstrips (corporate greed!). I also invested in Flic (their buttons are awesome... the Flic Twist's software needs tweaks though, but early days...). I tend to use the HomeKit Integration in Home Assistant to run most of the Aqara and Hue stuff though as only own a iPad. One thing though, plug the power in properly to the Hue Bridge, that so triggered me!

A question for you. I love the depth that you go into and you seem to have a good mix of smart home vendors - what is it that you use as your one central place of truth where you can bring everything together to string together automations which encompass multi vendor components? Do you use Home assistant? Apple HomeKit or something else like node-red? Thanks for all your videos and keep up the good work !

    • @MarkYounger76
      @MarkYounger76 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

As an example - maybe use an Aqara presence sensor to turn on a tuya smart plug and a Phillips hue light bulb and a govee light when someone enters the room

I would really like to meet you one day if I go to the United Kingdom, I see you as a friend that I don't know yet hahaha. I wish you the best for you and all the projects that come from now on. 😉😉

How much batteries do you need to keep the system running? I always wonder if using home automation is really saving you money since it using power also when you don't need it. With a conventional you only use it when you need it.

These Aqara motion sensors use 2 coin-cell batteries and last 5 years or so on battery. My Philips Hue switches (like the ones he shows on his wall, the little remote) uses a single coin-cell battery, and I've never changed them in 5 years (most are reporting 50% battery still).

I started to like Govee Home controll & their lights...RGBIC LED lights strips...are amazing...cuz' each section of LED Strip you can controll it & set different colors & scenes...at certan time...
especially Effects are Amazing to use!...
    😅😊
Cooling & Heating is also controlled through Tado Thermostats...
but if the room needs to heated fast I use Govee heaters...connected with sensor that messures temp's & humadity...😅
so much more then this...those are examples...recently bough Ubiquity Video Surveillance Cameras...just to test it out...cuz' I love their
    eco-system so much...

    • @parthyintheusa

Damn you sound salty dude. Honestly the work he does is super useful and important because it keeps competition up for providing internet rather than just having 1 or 2 massive corporations setting the price and rules AND it allows higher speed services in areas where it would otherwise cost tens of thousands to get fiber optic cables ran out for decent internet. Plus it’s not illegal either at least in the United States. Very easy to set up and good source of income as long as you are willing to put in the work, learn, and have a good target demographic for it.
I haven’t watched his videos in ages either since I’ve gotten busy with life but he’s always been open about what and how he is doing what he does so he’s not even claiming it as his own. Quite literally debunked all your points but have fun I guess LOL
