There is one thing I found absolutely essential to do with automation. Scheduled amd/or remote window ac power sockets. I drive all week, come home with a cool home without any input of my own or wasting power
Love the setup. You should try the Bond hub bridge for your fans. I use it for both my ceiling fans on two different floors and it runs both by voice or with your phone app.
@@TechWithBrett Why? You already have Lutron for at least one fan, and some of the shades, why add yet another device controller? You already have too many as is.

I am running into the same problem with smart wall switches do you have any suggestions?
I also set up routines to create different light conditions. I have 13 lights in my living room so I created a couple different routines, I call them dark, bright, etc, and you just say hey google then the routine name, google will only turn on certain lights defined in that routine (and turn off the ones you don't want), saying 'hey google, turn on light' will always turn on all lights in a room and that can be too bright sometimes. I also set up a routine called Two, which is used when I'm done with the living room and plan to go up stairs, it will turn off most lights on the first floor and leave just 1 or 2 small lights, and turn on my second floor lights.

I’m loving all the automations, what a great video! I’ve been debating on smart blinds, but the automatic closing was amazing, might have to go to Ikea and pick some up for a future video we do.
@@KitKatsTube i was looking for a while as well. There is no reliable brand (at least I wasn't able to find) . Only MySmartBlind by Tilt looks like having something acceptable, but 150$ per window. Brett, what are you using?
Just found that Brett did a video about it, so he uses MySmartBlind with Solar panel, so be ready to spend 200$ per window. Unfortunately there is nothing else available at the market..
Hey Brett, how do you use multiple Google hubs/home minis in multiple rooms which are nearby. Mine triggers in one room if I ask another hub from another room.
Very cool, can see a lot of this being very convenient (especially the shades) - though some of the lights are a bit overkill imo, and I think using a single assistant for everything is more ideal
Yeah lol some are a bit trivial. It’s cool to see the commitment to making it as smart as possible. I Would rather make my entire home smart then do half smart and have basic
Instead of having the bathroom light on a timer to cut off you can add a door sensor and program it to cut the lights off when the door is open and turn on when the door is closed. This and maybe motion to cut it on when you just want to look in the mirror or something with the door open
Not many folks close the bathroom door fully. I tried to implement this automation and it was never used as bathroom gets colder than bedroom with doors closed
I decided to watch to get some ideas of what’s possible. I have to say, many of these use cases are advanced ways to flip a light switch. I think home automation is still a solution waiting to find a problem in many cases. I cringe at the thought of all those controllers laying around the house, waiting to be lost and/or run out of battery power.
Great video! I've been building our smart home over the last two plus years. We have a number of devices now. Smart displays, thermostats, lights, cameras, lock and a monster home-theater. I love what I'm able to do with technology. My wife uses SOME things, but tends to not use others at all. Which leads me to this conclusion. IMO, I think that the more people there are in the home. The less that everyone in the home will fully adapt to using it. Although in my mind I'm trying to makes things better for both of us. It really ends up being only me that uses all of it. So the trick is to not end up with overkill.
Me and my husband are both tech nerds so I actually told him I want a smart darn near AI house and he got on TH-cam and led me here. I'm in love. Next thing i need is automation on lawn sprinkler system and to see if they came up with anything smart for pool areas.
I absolutely love your videos. I've been growing my smarthome for the last year, but there is only so much you can do in an apartment 😭 When we get a house next year, I will enjoy having a nest thermostat, a ring doorbell, a Google hub, and some smart blinds. You just showed me a lot of things that I didn't know existed!
Awesome tour... Never even considered the faucet, I'm gonna have to add that and the blinds to my plan. Something I'd add for the laundry room, en suite toilet and walk in closet lighting is a non-smart lutron motion sensor light switch... That way if you're walking in or out with an armful of laundry you're not fumbling for switches and it'll turn itself off when you leave.
The reason is that if you are watching the video next to a Google speaker or have Google Assistant on your phone, my voice will still active your device and make them to start going crazy. So it makes the viewing experience much better.
Lol. He mutes it because, if not, your phone and other smart devices (if you have Android, will be going off each time he says it - unless you're watching with headphones.
@@TechWithBrett actually, idk about you, but I recommend having google learn your voice so it's harder for others to activate your smart devices accidentally (or otherwise)... I'm not sure how that works for the google home devices though
Wemo or lutron you helped me with my 1st wemo dimmer. The app for wemo sucks though. When connecting to wifi during set up i just get the wheel of death. I am think about getting all lutron.
Is it possible to use commands from one room to another? Like changing the lights or switch off/on blinds from your living room to your kitchen and vice versa?
@ 21:15 you say that when you press your nest hello doorbell it displays on your nest thermostat. HOW DO IT DO THAT? I really want to know. .... and congrats on the kid.
Brett, Last night my only smoke detector went out, right at the 10 year mark. Is Nest Protect the best smart solution. My home is mostly echo/alexa but have google/nest hubs too. I'm wanting phone notifications for alarm sounds, low battery sounds and the ability to stop them from my phone.
Check out home assistant it's all in one. What I don't see much is a sensor in the mailbox to give you a notification when you got mail. I have that installed in mine. And it's pretty sweet
Great video! Question: Have you seen a increase in your internet bandwidth usage? What is your network setup? I currently have the legacy Google Wifi with two extra repeaters. I noticed my internet usage jump when I added 5 Nest cameras.
14:30 that’s actually smart I remember I used to live in an apt where the smoke detector in the kitchen was expired by who knows how much and it went off randomly if you breathed on it. They should let you use the motion after the smoke detector is expired though. Or replace the actual sensor yourself
@@TechWithBrett You know you wanna! I'm pretty sure you can fit at least two more on that shelf and if you get creative with magnets or hot glue you could easily mount another 3 on your switch 😂
This was a great video. Showed a lot of amazing possibilities. I wanted to ask a few things. The first thing is how you set your lights up to be automated and controlled by a switch? I would appreciate any help you can give me.
I see very similar smart home items in each room, lights and blinds. What I have wanted on top of those options is a motion sensor light that will turn off when a person or people have left a room. Say after 10 minutes of no motion, auto turn off the lights. Instead of just scheduling the lights to go off at a certain time of day/night when the kids leave the lights on. Is there a device that provides all the automation/smart skills as what you have but also provide for inactivity to shut off and turn on the lights?
nice walk through. although, we get to see the bane of smart home functionality. Even Samsung's smart things features like scenes, automations, cloud based triggers, etc can be aggravating at times. It is critical to know the limitations and design factors (local control vs. internet reliance for example) to ensure fallback to primitive usage. otherwise, guests and family will not like; and the DIY'er unless you have years of patience can get tired of chasing issues too :).
samsungs smart devices suck thats your problem, hubitat solves all those issues, this dudes entire house is a cobbled together mess of random switches assistants and devices thats also why he has so many issues 3 different brands of light switch all in one 3 gang panel what a joke
Excellent job showing all your automated home ideas! Not a fan of google, but Alexa would work well if you preferred that voice assistant. Like the Philips Hue smart switch that stop people from disabling the smart bulb use, do you have more info on that switch? Thanks!
I don't have a smart washing machine, but I do have a cheap zigbee accelerometer. When that detects motion for 1 minute, Home Assistant sets a timer for an hour, and then wait until the accelerometer hasn't detected motion for 10 minutes. By then the laundry is done, and I send a notification to phones, and make a speaker announcement if someone is home. :)
Love your smart home tour Brett thanks for sharing! & love your time stamp in your video. So need a home like yourself awesome 👍Congratulations to your beautiful family with the pending arrival 👶
I think it’s funny how all these tech reviewers awkwardly stare at their Google or Alexa when they give it a command and wait for it to respond lol overall good video
Good day Brett. 19:23 The master bathroom smart switch instead of using Smart life app you can use Tuya Smart app with the same Account information as Smart life and it has smart things integration. I am new to the smart home world but everything I have runs through smart things.
For whatever reason the Smart Life switch is too old or doesn't have the ability to move into SmartThings. I am using another switch now and everything is working great.
Thanks for explaining how use Hey Google turn on the light and it worked for the room because we always say Hey Google turn on the kitchen light for example. Our home is designed with an open floor plan but this still will work in the rooms. Cousin are kitchen and family room dining room Google speakers seem to take turns hearing us. Also is your surround sound back speakers wired to the subwoofer? I would love to find ones that you plug into the wall and then for example Bluetooth will control them thanks
@@TechWithBrett ughh yes it does, I had to rewire those 3 locations and re wire my other 2 to go 😞. I won’t recommend the Hampton bay zigbee device I had it and dropped signal left and right.
Trying to figure out how to patch the additional slot since I am going to use that exact switch to replace a plate with a fan and light switch. First world problems
How does it deal with getting rid of the room temperature water from the pipes inside the house? If I want cold water, it's gotta be ground cold not room cold. Can it discard the tepid water?
Looks pretty cool... with some caveats. Not sure I’d want auto-blinds, for one thing. Post-shower living room dash for clothes and all. Also a lot of this seems light based, which is fine, but in many cases, the effort to simply use a switch vs all the $$$ and time that goes into setup... for instance, do I really need my phone to tell me to put clothes in the dryer or can I guesstimate that after a half hour or so, they’re done washing? It’s interesting and it’s fun, but I think smart systems are so slow to become popular because they just aren’t necessary. Not yet. Anyone sorta feel the same way?
Yes. I have some WiFi switches to replace analog timers, but other than that all of these gadgets are the epitome of mindless consumerism. Plus most of those devices are connected to some company server and pose a pretty big security / privacy risk. I work in AI so I'm not exactly a technophobe, but I don't need some company that makes its money collecting your personal data to physically follow me at home too, thank you.
I would like to know how to set an automated timer for my bathroom fan to shut off anytime it is turned on. I know I can tell Alexa to use the sleep timer function, but is there a way to have the bath fan shut off 20 after it was turned on?
You have a lovely home. I love that you’ve set up smart devices that make life easier, without going overboard and creating a techy geek house. This is the kind of thing I want to create. I have watched some of your HomeKit videos too and am tempted to go down that path, but might end up with 2 systems. HomeKit for anything with cameras so it’s local, but I might want Alexa for switches etc as they are cheaper, but also in Australia we don’t have as many smart products available so having 2 platforms will give me more options. I already have a firestick so Alexa makes more sense than Google.
Hey Guys, I don't want to be rude, but isn't most of the smart things lights? Do you know anything about smart vacuum robots? And do you know when autonomous drones will be able to move things in the house? Thank you for your content. I love how it switches from "I am a child of God" in the bathroom to "You keep me safe, I'll keep you wild" in the bedroom lol
And the kids room has a "my gospel standards" poster
Well it's framed but still kinda a poster
@@Shadow__X I thought the same thing. However, the two are not mutually exclusive. You can achieve both things in a healthy relationship. Seems like they got balance in their lif and tech in their home. Loved watching the video (pardon our fun at your expense)
@@kxp1996 is this spam or did you just not get the point of my comments?
I don’t think you get children without getting a little wild.
I just need more IR fans. Glad to hear it is working well!
@@TechWithBrett Why? You already have Lutron for at least one fan, and some of the shades, why add yet another device controller? You already have too many as is.
I am slowly turning my house into a smart home, the home was built in the late 30's (my Grandparents home) the electrical wiring is old I would like to add a smart thermostat the wiring in my house has two wires the smart thermostat has three is their a smart thermostat out their that I can use? I am running into the same problem with smart wall switches do you have any suggestions?

Congrats on the new addition to the family!
Beautiful And Outstanding Home! You've Done Well With All The Cool Toys! Stay Safe All Of You! Thanks Brett For Everything! God Speed To You And Your Family! 🙏💖💕
I’m not sure but you didn’t mention what kind of smart blinds you have 😩 can you tell me or point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance
I am using two different kinds. The Kitchen was MySmartBlinds: th-cam.com/video/3K49sinxHqc/w-d-xo.html
And in the Bedroom it is Serena Shades: th-cam.com/video/NmNEH8ylaXw/w-d-xo.html
Using Home Assistant can connect all the smart devices.
I think he's going to have to use home assistant soon because apparently smart things is on its way out !
You need a Athom Homey controller and connect that to your Google Hubs. Then you can use devices running on Z-wave, WiFi, Zigbee, 868 MHz, 433 MHz, bleutooth and Infrared. All in one controller.
Thought the same. He could replace like all the other "brains" with one homey
I’m loving all the automations, what a great video! I’ve been debating on smart blinds, but the automatic closing was amazing, might have to go to Ikea and pick some up for a future video we do.
I still need to test their or but it really is so nice to have them open and close all on their own.
Where did you purchase your blinds from? Also what brand are they? Both living room and kitchen. I especially like the blinds in the kitchen
Ikea?? I haven't seen many options there???
This video made us feel that everyone can freely combine to achieve smart home automation.
Hey Brett, how do you use multiple Google hubs/home minis in multiple rooms which are nearby. Mine triggers in one room if I ask another hub from another room.
I didnt know it was roo. Spacific. I've always said turn on kitchen lights or what ever to make sure it knows which lights I want on
Very cool, can see a lot of this being very convenient (especially the shades) - though some of the lights are a bit overkill imo, and I think using a single assistant for everything is more ideal
Nice home Brett. Thanks for the tour of your very smart home. 👍
Super cool Smarttek with smoothie and smarties.
Dazzling on approach and landing.
@@MontegoBayTechTalk Maybe that's the difference. My wife is tech savvy(when she wants to be), but not a tech nerd.
I absolutely love your videos. I've been growing my smarthome for the last year, but there is only so much you can do in an apartment 😭
When we get a house next year, I will enjoy having a nest thermostat, a ring doorbell, a Google hub, and some smart blinds.
Thank you for muting the "Hey Google" parts!
@ brett..muting it....is that for security reasons or video editing reasons?
The reason is that if you are watching the video next to a Google speaker or have Google Assistant on your phone, my voice will still active your device and make them to start going crazy. So it makes the viewing experience much better.
Lol. He mutes it because, if not, your phone and other smart devices (if you have Android, will be going off each time he says it - unless you're watching with headphones.
@@SuCoGoddess bruh, he literally said that 4 days ago
@@TechWithBrett actually, idk about you, but I recommend having google learn your voice so it's harder for others to activate your smart devices accidentally (or otherwise)... I'm not sure how that works for the google home devices though
Hey Brett great video, a question can you provide the link where you purchased the TP link multi-port switch?
Finally a new house tour!
Thank you for not saying "Hey Google" I can't tell you how many people other than me have turned off something in my house 🤦
That is hilarious. An episode of Big Bang Theory where they turned off somebody's lights in Thailand or somewhere from the apartment in Cali lol.
@ 21:15 you say that when you press your nest hello doorbell it displays on your nest thermostat. HOW DO IT DO THAT? I really want to know.
.... and congrats on the kid.
In Nest app go to the Nest Hello. Tap the Settings icon and then go to Visitor Announcements. Turn that on.
I love your Latter-day Saints stuff around the house, especially your quote on the bathroom mirror.
Amazing!! Greetings from Peru!!
Check out home assistant it's all in one. What I don't see much is a sensor in the mailbox to give you a notification when you got mail. I have that installed in mine. And it's pretty sweet
this is what people in the 80's used to dream about
Great video! Question: Have you seen a increase in your internet bandwidth usage? What is your network setup? I currently have the legacy Google Wifi with two extra repeaters. I noticed my internet usage jump when I added 5 Nest cameras.
Good stuff!
Hey man! I have a long way to go to catch up to your epic smart home.
14:30 that’s actually smart I remember I used to live in an apt where the smoke detector in the kitchen was expired by who knows how much and it went off randomly if you breathed on it. They should let you use the motion after the smoke detector is expired though. Or replace the actual sensor yourself
You need at least 3 more smart hub products! :)
Don't tempt me, haha!
Another Great video, thank you for sharing Brett.
Maybe an Ecobee Switch+? Alexa + Motion and Temp sensor and light switch in one unit.
nice walk through. although, we get to see the bane of smart home functionality.
Great video Brett!
Thanks Steve!
Great job 👍
Excellent job showing all your automated home ideas! Not a fan of google, but Alexa would work well if you preferred that voice assistant. Like the Philips Hue smart switch that stop people from disabling the smart bulb use, do you have more info on that switch? Thanks!
I talk a bit more about it in this video: th-cam.com/video/S-UgSxOkzr8/w-d-xo.html
dude, CONGRALUTATIONS!
Finally a home tour
Thank you Brett👍👍👍
One honest question, how many batteries do you change in a month ?
Great Video!
Hi Brett, could you make a vid about how to name your rooms or products im kinda struggling with that in my own house...
Great idea! I'll see what I can put together.
@@TechWithBrett that would be great looking forward to it.
Love your smart home tour Brett thanks for sharing! & love your time stamp in your video. So need a home like yourself awesome 👍Congratulations to your beautiful family with the pending arrival 👶
I love the tour and use of technology! Also, the wall art in the master bedroom Loll'll - Classic!!!!
I think it’s funny how all these tech reviewers awkwardly stare at their Google or Alexa when they give it a command and wait for it to respond lol overall good video
Nice Jesus drawing! He's my friend too. Thanks for the tour. Definitely helps with my transition to a smart home
Wow this is actually the future, today.
How many time are you saying « SMART » 😂 Nice video !
Hopefully I said it more than saying Shmart.
Have you ever thought about using something like HomeAssistant to move everything in one system?
@@ecard0 I have heard good things about it. I might try it out one of these days.
12:20
Imagine if the kids find out how to use all these smart things and start messing with them.
For your fan and light use zooz zen30 I have 3 and planing on buy 2 more, recommend 100% integrates with hubitat and ST
Does that require a fan wire? My main issue is I don't have that in any of the locations.
@@TechWithBrett ughh yes it does, I had to rewire those 3 locations and re wire my other 2 to go 😞.
I won’t recommend the Hampton bay zigbee device I had it and dropped signal left and right.
Ok that is what I figured. I actually bought a ZEN30 last week to test out. Now I just need to figure out the wiring. Thanks!
Trying to figure out how to patch the additional slot since I am going to use that exact switch to replace a plate with a fan and light switch. First world problems
Well done! Now you need someone to decorate your house.
Don't tell that to my wife...
I think the house is beautifully decorated
How does it deal with getting rid of the room temperature water from the pipes inside the house? If I want cold water, it's gotta be ground cold not room cold. Can it discard the tepid water?
My favorite thing with smart devices is when “ok google “ doesn’t always work
Right!? Lol
Totally. It irks me because I never know for sure
Also I may talk too fast for it to register so there’s that too 🤷♂️
Looks pretty cool... with some caveats.
Since when has turning on a light switch been such a difficult and strenuous task
I know right? And what about filling a bottle of water!
I would like to know how to set an automated timer for my bathroom fan to shut off anytime it is turned on. I know I can tell Alexa to use the sleep timer function, but is there a way to have the bath fan shut off 20 after it was turned on?
Ooo first!
Im not good at English, however I understand it's amazing.
Hey Guys,
I don't want to be rude, but isn't most of the smart things lights?
Do you know anything about smart vacuum robots?
And do you know when autonomous drones will be able to move things in the house?
Thank you for your content. I like the smart water, if you combine it with a filter it could tell you about water quality.
Happy Easter!
