- The Z-O-M-B-I-E-S trilogy introduces us to a colorful world of zombies, werewolves, aliens, and cheerleading. And with some wacky dialogue and clumsy allegories for racism, you know there are going to be some great reviews online.
All reviews are from the site Letterboxd

You can say hi to me on Twitter! / joey_tonka
the fact that they had zombies, werewolves and then decided to do ALIENS instead of vampires is way too funny to me
Aliens were hinted at the very end of 'ZOMBIES 2'. They were ALWAYS going to be in the franchise.
Vampires were already done with “moonstone mystery” during lockdown, search it, its a mess

Yeah. Watched the second and third movie with my brother. And before the third movie he's been saying that the next would be vampires.
Pretty sure he was disappointed.

Which is rich considering they also made Zootopia, which handles the metaphor much better (though they still get a little weird and mixed-up with it in the third act)

What if I told you that there were vampires before Zombies 3?
Apparently there were these animated short films and the first one featured a vampire called Vanna (yeah very subtle name 👍)
So, yeah, what's next, Disney? Frankensteins?
@@Marie-tl4nh was it just me, or were the short films really cringy? Like the movies are bad but that just crossed the line.
@@Pink_roses2 I think the movies are decently good, but I hated the moonstone mystery shorts or whatever that was tbh

The plots of them feel like a 12 year old's first attempt at fan fiction and dear god the art style and animation- the art was decent ig (not my cup of tea, but it wasn't bad per se), but the way they animated the characters and stuff felt off for some reason
I'm so happy I'm not the only one who suffered by seeing these short films. Lets all share our pain of knowing these monstrosities exist
Addison staying human would’ve been a better message than her being half alien. Also Addison seems really desperate to be anything but human and it’s annoying.

@@peppermintspice5873 Uhhh it was pretty bad. At least Addison finally got the better side of wigs, but Eliza’s romance was cringe. @Dark Choco literally-
as an avid alien lover, i genuniely despise the third movie for how it transpired.
their was so much opportunity to make cow obsessed jokes, but they didnt.
Cows + aliens have been done to death.
Fr I love the subject of aliens and space and UFO’s but this movie 💀
The only good part was when Bucky died.
For real, and using the term 'alien' was so generic, no name of their species or home planet and why were they all in the same outfits and color? Absolutely no diversity, it made it seem like the aliens came from the same family like incest is their thing. would have been a bit better if some had white hair like Addison
@@shaniqueclarke9410 The only alien who had white hair was Addison's grandmother.
No I refuse to believe Bucky died the mothership beamed him up for a reason. His jazz hands have granted him immortality
Yes that's exactly what happened
The Jazz hands make you immortal
Exactly.
his jazz hands are out of this world
Because of one of those reviews, I kinda want it to be canon that when he is in the ship, he almost dies but survives, and then believes he is an immortal god and goes on a kill spree. We all need a chaotic "antagonist" musical number, and I think Bucky deserves it.
Addison did not desserve the amount of good things she got.
"Omg your oppressed because of your race? Well i am a white, skinny, rich girl, but i have a birth defect that gives me white hair, we are so alike!"
The one time disney tried to make a topic about something genuinely controversial and interesting in a way both kids and adults can understand, and they blew it. Thankfully, they tried again with luca and was actually successful
Like... No one cares about your hair. Just wear your wig
As for the second movie. "Tiktok dances against police brutality" is the best quote to sum it up. Another try, another sort of fail
I havent watched the third one so i have no opinion
In the 3rd movie Addison is having her 3rd "identity crisis" while her IQ drops sincerely, and her poc coded boyfriend is denied the right to go to college. The movie actually thinks that having a hair color ( which isn’t even coded, she just has white hair ) is more important than the poc coded character being denied rights
@@Riaah_love And it turns out she's half alien... *sniiiiiifffffff*
@@damienearl8302 Wrong, Addison is only 25% or 1/4 alien meaning she’s mostly human. And if she had kids they’d be half zombie and mostly human as well, she’s as much alien as Hilaria Baldwin is Spanish.

imo the most relatable scene in the franchise is in the third movie where a-spen immediately falls in love with willa at the cheer competition because of her “passion,” addi informs them that she almost certainly wants to rip their heart out, and in response a-spen remarks “…she can have it”

i like how the movies were literally just based around a girl having an identity crisis just because of her white hair (and being a total pick me girl in the process). and yet again speaking that this went on for THREE WHOLE DAMN FILMS. The whole time i was watching the third one i just thought about how much disney is milking the same “moral” for three movies for that sweet sweet cash.
She even almost left her boyfriend for the aliens like bro what💀
how is she a pick me? isn’t a pick me someone who brings down other girls for male attention…?
Ppl can be teased for white hair tho...
I think it’s because of her vibe, i mean i noticed a lot in the third movie how people are like “oh this is all happy la de da because of addison we LOVE addison” and even though it isn’t her fault, i can get why she comes off as a pick me girl
FR THO!! I never really liked Addison all that much because I felt like she was being SUCH a pick-me girl and she just kept changing her whole identity just to “fit in” with the other people 🙄💀// also she acts like having white hair is so quirky and literally makes it her whole personality-

As a veteran from the High School Musical days, I would like to formally apologise to Troy Bolton for belittling his struggle of, "I'm good at TWO things!" @@yelenasosa5115 she has never felt fully accepted in Seabrook. She only fit in when she was hiding who she was (wearing wigs). She saw how frowned upon being "different" was in Seabrook and she did everything she could to not be different and it made her unhappy. When she came out, it really solidified her anxieties and she only had the support of another minority group and Bree. Not even her parents supported her. It became her mission to make sure everyone in Seabrook felt welcome and accepted, but everyone else that came had a whole group and she was still alone. She just wanted a group of people who fully understood her, and she found that with the aliens. And they needed her so they wouldn't be without a home like she was emotionally/mentally. So of course she was going to help them! That's what she does - help people.

it's because danny looks like a little bit of everything all of the time. (oo bo burnham LMAO) like he looks super white but also a tiny bit hispanic because he IS hispanic. he has deep brown hair but not too deep that it looks black but not light enough to blend in with your average tree. he stands out a little more now because of how he's been styling his hair, but back in like 2019 his hair looked like every other musically stars. also he has eyebrows that are a little large but still extremely clean and not-bushy looking, a longer and slightly broad nose that just fits his face shape, average-sized lips and a general face shape that borders 12-year-old-boy and mature but still young adult man. imo tho the only person who's ever looked exactly like him is buzz lightyear from the new film 😭

I love good stories, this has that. What it doesn't have is answers to my questions. I feel like I need a push pins and string to make any of this make sense. Why do the zombie names start with z and werewolves with w and so forth, but humans don't start with h? Is Seabrook meant to be a Utopia or dystopia? What does the rest of the world look like and does it also have zombies and werewolf packs? If the aliens are essentially a hive mind, why are they constantly talking to each other and revealing their plans, just dub it over? HOW DO THE WEREWOLVES KNOW HOW TO READ? To prevent a mind crisis, I have to chalk it up to "kid movie dumb, thats how u know its for kid", but the plotholes and logic hurt like posion and the only thing close to a remedy are the songs
For the naming scheme, it's probably just to give the non-humans an even more unique tone that separates them from the humans.
Seabrooke is kind of something trying to be a perfect Utopia by casting away anything they find different or imperfect which is similar to Homeworld from Steven Universe.
I'm not really sure how I could possibly explain the rest.
Just cuz it's for kids doesn't mean it needs to be bad
The thing that had me scratching my head was the fact that two of the movies have a plot that hinges on people being too dumb to just be honest. The werewolves could've easily been like "Hello, our pack is dying and we need help finding the life-giving mcguffin that is detrimental to our survival. Have you seen a big glowy rock that gives off a ton of energy?" instead of sneaking around for half the movie. The aliens could've openly said "Sorry we scared you, we're totally harmless, we just need to know what's important around here so we can scan it for coordinates and be on our way." Instead we get the whole 'pretend they're cheerleaders so they can secretly brainscan everyone' thing.
@Just a random kid on your street watching you 1. I looked it up and watched a bit...kind of scarred now
2. Another question for anyone who knows the answer...WHERE DID THE WHITE HAIRED ALPHA PLOT GO? It was mentioned, like, twice, then never mentioned again. Was it ever meant to be fulfilled or what?
@@kifi2526 I've seen a theory that they had it right, and Addison IS the Great Alpha, just not a werewolf. Technically, she was responsible for uniting humans, zombies, werewolves, and later the aliens. She has a connection to all of them, and she acts as a leader to all of them at one point or another. Unfortunately, they never really confirmed that idea, unless you want to count Willa giving Addi the necklace back at the end of 2.

My little sister is obsessed with this movie trilogy and so I was forced to watch the third movie and LET ME TELL YOU. I understand that the whole 'Addison being half human and half alien and feeling like she didn't belong in either world' was supposed to resonate with people who are mixed ethnicities or are one ethnicity but live in a different country with a different culture and feeling that disconnection... but like, as a poc in a white society, I didn't feel that representation, especially because her actor is white. This is no shade to her because she's a great actress but Disney just didn't know how to handle this topic in a meaningful way.
exactlyyy omg if her actor was maybe mixed i'd understand but it doesnt cause she's white...THERE'S NO WHERE TO RELATE TO HER (especially as a mixed kid) because disney cares about more white actors than poc actors like us which sucks,, but we shouldve gotten the rep we deserved 😭

What the heck is a white society? Also why do you care about the actors race? Are you racist?
Also why are none of the monsters actually what they’re supposed to be. The zombies just have a genetic mutation from lime soda they didn’t actually die. The werewolves are literally just that one kid in first school who used to say they were a werewolf and bark. What makes them wolves is that they have white strip of hair and are connected to a magic rock.
I think you forgot this is a Disney movie targeted to a young audience , though it would really would be cool if the monsters were actually designed to be like their depicted selves
@@kaedehara_ I’m not forgetting it’s a Disney movie. Monsters don’t have to be scary. I’m a sucker for a good monster movie. And a sucker for a good kids movie (child at heart) I’d argue it’d be better if they were depicted accurately. Like if the werewolves actually turned into wolves.
And their eyes glow and they have fangs and they have their own language plus they will die without the stone soooooooo far from human
@@choiyeonjun8071 having your own language? How does that make them not human? Also I NEVER SAID THEY WERENT HUMAN!! I said they aren’t werewolves. And they’re not! To be a werewolf you have to have the ability to turn into a wolf!
I'm still salty the werewolves didn't have tails at the very least
then again i didn't notice until "do it like the zombies do" 😭
Ever noticed that after the first movie, each time a new minority group is introduced (werewolves and aliens), they end up causing trouble and have sneaky ulterior motives, but the movie continues telling everyone else that they should be accepted anyway? I mean, the werewolves were just outright antagonistic. Weird message to give to kids. You have to accept everyone, even the jerky kid who keeps making fun of your friends. No, you can’t tell them off because that would make you racist. Just be the bigger person and take their abuse and hope that you can eventually be friends. This entire series is laughably cringe. I can’t wait to see what other preachy shit show they create.
that message is kinda plausible, and if you didnt point it out I probably would've never noticed
I noticed that too. My little cousin (pfp) LOVES these movies so I had to watch all of them. The werewolves were awful, they were so mean for no reason. Also the zombies tried to be nice to them and help them out, but they were awful to them. Why would the zombies like them then? @@shewolf923 Well, it's clearly some form of prejudice commentary (or at least trying to be one), only with classic monsters. It's set in a dystopian society following a zombie apocalypse in which everyone has chilled out, however there's lingering resentment from both human and zombie populations toward each other. Humans dislike zombies because the zombies ate their brains, and zombies dislike humans because humans mowed them down in droves with chainsaws. The only real difference between the two species appears to be in their hair colour and fashion sense.
It's set in a generic high school run by a mutant man-shrimp, where a central cast of humans and zombies must resolve generic conflicts while learning to get along, performing musical numbers, and making horrible puns. The female lead is mocked for a bad dye job, the antagonist is a racist zombie jock, and everyone's apparently completely colour blind because no one in their right mind would EVER combine green and pink.

Our grandparents watching addisons “I’m so oppressed I have white hair” arc:
This feels like the "MEN'S Size 13 Nikes" thing but now with hair.
Daenerys and Quicksilver
@@fishysc0okielife FRRR i wear men 13 to but atleast she can afford it. nikes in that size are so enspenive
Yeah. Having blonde hair (it’s platinum blonde) and blue eyes is so bad that Addison can’t fit in anywhere.
7:58 me every time my mom asks me if I am angry.
Not gonna lie I thought the 3rd movie would be abt Addison finding out that she's part vampire not part alien
Loved how they threw bucky's character development out the window for the last two movies, man literally carried the trilogy
Also rupaul mothership
Hey, the zombie and cheerleader divide was at my school too! Très topical!
They kinda skipped over 2 movies at the end of zombies 3 so Im gonna make a plot for them:Zombies 4 so Addison finds out she's 000000000000000000000000000.1 percent vampire she then changes her whole personality because she thinks she's a vamp she runs away with the vamps and fights racism only to find out she doesn't have vamp powers she then say it's okay to be your self: Zombies 5 Addison throws all the stuff she learned out the window because mermaids exist and she find out her great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great grandma was a mermaid she leaves with the mermaids to the ocean and tries to unlock her mermaid powers she then almost drown then a hot merman saves Addison.Zed gets mad because the merman let's call him Merry and Addison get close Addison confronts her and Addison says she could never cheat then Bucky comes back home at turns out he's alien and didn't die they all have a dance party and zed and Addison get married and have children together.
The End
I just wrote fanfiction
Not enough greats for a proper fic
It’s that this is very accurate
Needs more lemon
@@offsewingdragons9142 I know what lemon means when it comes to fanfiction, but what does cowbell mean?
Everyone: talking about how they love that Bucky dies
Also everyone: forgetting that he is Allison’s cousin which means he potentially also has alien heritage
Me: wishing I had forgotten they were related
Only Addison’s mom is half-alien. This was from her grandma (a full alien) and grandpa (a human) meeting and falling in love. I don’t think it’s ever confirmed whether or not Bucky is Addison’s cousin through her mom or her dad. If mom, alien heritage. If not, no alien.
Considering Addison’s mom has no mentioned siblings, Bucky’s mom or dad is probably Addison’s dad’s sibling.
I watched the entire ZOMBIES trilogy with my friend and we kept joking how it looked like Bucky always needed to take a crap whenever he was on screen 😂
8:04 I TOTALLY CRIED AND I WAS LIKE WHY AM I CRYING BUT I JUST LET IT HAPPEN
IK IT WAS SO SAAAAAAAD
I cried and then my bff made fun of me for crying after I told him
2:55 this is how jesse pinkman would act if he was a zombie
Omg I need the idea at 6:12 to become a movie
can we pls talk abt how wyatt and addison had more chemistry in a 2 minute dance scene than zed and addison did the first movie?!
3:53 actually made me laugh out loud. Thats a good thing, because usually I just laugh in my head.. even thats rare.

My favorite quote in this whole entire video.
8:45 regarding the vampire movie, there actually was a short 30 minute “episode. Sorta like a zombies 2.5. But they DEFINITELY should make a zombie movie, maybe where they turn into mermaids or something . I’m not a zombies fan I swear
mermies
There is also going to be a Disney plus animated series a well. So Mermaids possible will appear.
There were mermaids in the end credits of zombie 3
y’all me and my friends were laughing bc we were like “oh seabrook is literally a cult” and we like to make fun of dcoms. but then… we looked up william seabrook and he was a real man who did some cult stuff im dead serious 😭 we got a new conspiracy theory
I Will Accept This Truth
Lmao
As a Greek, that joke at 7:25 got me good
5:57 bucky is the most queer-coded character in disney history
He's the gay guy that's homophobic and racist because he's 1. In denial, or 2. Surrounded by people that won't accept him and act like that, so he acts like that too so he can fit in.
These movies' story is like something I would have made up during recess in elementary school :|
3:07
Not gonna lie, that made me laugh...
Bucky is such a drama queen and I live for it😭
The whole point of Z-o-m-b-i-e was Addison finding out where she belonged
I can't with the wigs in these movies...
Also, where can I find my giant hot zombie
Y'all are forgetting that seabrookians aren't establishing what we would consider normal conditions for a town. It's literally a Utopia, all the houses are pastel coloured, pink and blue are the main colour schemes, everyone has to be happy all the time, hence cheer, and if you don't conform to these ''normalities'' and fit in, then you're ostracised and treated with disgust your whole life. The aliens even call it Utopia like fitting in here and being perfect is all that matters. Imagine growing up in an environment like that, knowing you are exactly what this world doesn't accept even though they seem to accept you when you present yourself in a way that suits them but not you.
Yes Zeds a product of systematic oppression and thats important to note, which was why the entire first movie was about showing seabrookians what their system did to zombies, how wrong it was and changing their system to adapt to zombies instead of seeing them as imperfections in their perfect town. The second and third movie did the same thing with overcoming prejudices but with other species: werewolves and aliens. What people fail to understand is Addison is also a product of systematic oppression, of a different kind, she's basically been taught to hate herself to the point the only way she should survive is by changing herself to something acceptable, she had her identity oppressed her whole life. Addison and zed aren't the same because they're both oppressed, they're both the same because they know the dangers of not fitting in and they live in a place that wouldn't accept them as they are, and that sucks at any level.
Utopias are perfect places, with barely any problems. The city where they live looks utopian, but isn’t, since it does in fact have failures within its system.
In fact, the city presented here has characteristics of a dystopia, such as oppression and a “correct” way of thinking (although I am not taking into account if they were represented correctly or not).
So yeah, it is a kind of badly made combination between the two, making me wonder about what the directors were trying to convey with the city that clearly looks good but it is apparently not.
@@nikotine1030 I think it can be argued that in dystopian novels, the plot tends to revolve around the idea that utopias, despite being defined as perfect societies, aren’t actually perfect. Like in the giver. There weren’t any problems that anyone was aware of, they couldn’t see color so they couldn’t judge anyone based on their skin color and bam, there goes racism. In the end that utopian life style was stifling on peoples identities and the freedom to just be who they want to be, even the ability to experience pain. So the ideology the system or the “old ways” of doing things, crumbled. I think the same can be said for seabrook. The society is perfect except for this one thing that makes it imperfect and that’s the zombies, which is part of the reason why they resent them too even if they don’t attack humans anymore. Kids can be prejudiced that they’re gonna attack humans because they did it before but adults and the people who put them there, they were the ones to develop the required technology to reign in their “monster” side. The z bands. The plot was saying you didn’t fix anything but or pressing the people, and they had to change their prejudices or opinions of zombies to really live in harmony in the end.
@@shinigamis_like_apples4797 Fair point. A real utopia with truly no problems is basically impossible, even in fiction (I mean, what would you even show in a story where everything is already solved?).
I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANY OF THESE MOVIES BUT I NEED THAT FIC MENTIONED IN 7:49
WHERE CAN I FIND IT???
Disny plus or just disny

Gotta be honest, that's one of the only reasons I continued watching this series
Why is nobody talking about how amazing the mothership was? Underrated flying saucer.
6:40 I am getting some serious Gus Frerotte flashbacks. In a 1997 game between the Washington Commanders and the New York Giants (I refuse to use the name that the Washington D.C. football has used for almost all of their history), Frerotte scored a rushing touchdown on a bootleg play. He then celebrated by banging his head against a nearby wall. He ended up spraining his neck and missing the rest of the game.
3:39 is my entire opinion on this franchise
4:24 okay but why is the true?
2:25 HOLY CRAP IT'S DIAMOND BOLT
He shows up again too
My little brother and little sister are absolutely obsessed with these movies. They genuinely followed the storyline and would keep telling our alexa to play the music. After the last movie my brother concluded that no more movies were needed since (whatever her name was) found out who she was. For me I was genuinely amazed how the two love interests had more chemistry than Bella and vampire guy from Twilight in a kids movie.
I haven’t been near the Disney Chanel since Decendants or something. TF happened while I was gone
8:29 this is already funny but y’know what makes it crazier?
Bucky isn’t slated to appear in Zombies 4
*_THIS MAN IS DEAD_*
"He's gonna die as soon Ru Paul leave the ozone layer"

These movies just feel like Y/N fan fiction from 2013-2017 that everybody makes fun of now but loved when they were younger.

The fact that the franchise isn’t even over yet and we’re getting another movie about vampires is making me wonder if Addison finds out she’s part vampire as well as being part alien and werewolf
the one thing that could have made the trilogy better would have been if Addison couldn't click at all with the aliens, she's still nice to them, she just can't find any common ground, then it's revealed she's part alien
"Idc this slaps"
Is my mood towards this entire trilogy 🤣
As soon as I saw this comment the video said the same thing lol
This movie isn't necessarily an "anti racism" movie, that's not the whole point, because they don't portray the zombies the same way and they do poc. Because Zombies DO actually eat brains (without the z band). The whole message was Acceptance, to accept people's differences, and backgrounds, and all that. You have to understand the movie, and unfortunately, the way to do that is to like it and to focus on every point and detail instead of scoffing it off, so it's typically misunderstood.
I do agree Addison was kind of problematic but it's a Disney movie for kids and tweens so that the message is easy to digest, but also it's fun to watch
The movie's meant to be an allegory for segregation / desegregation and it fails miserably. Its the worse ive seen these topics handled honestly
Zed's dead, baby. Zed's dead.
How has nobody made this joke yet?
pulp fiction, person of culture and taste.
Because the demographic that Zombies is targeted at has never watched Pulp Fiction.
