- The Lorax movie tried to teach kids about the importance of protecting nature... But mostly it made an army of teens fall in love with the Once-ler.

The one thing about this movie I’ll always question is Audrey herself, how did she know about the trees if they’ve been long dead
They probably had it in a history class or something. It was between that and gaslighting everyone who was alive when trees were still present which we know exist because Ted’s grandma famously says “I remember when trees were everywhere and no one had to pay for air.”
Clearly she is an elemental avatar sent by nature to try to bring humanity to the path of righteousness one last time.
The Lorax may speak for the trees, but Audrey spoke for nature herself. Where the Lorax failed, she succeeded.
Kind of reminds me of kids obsession over dinosaurs, they are long dead but kids still love them, maybe they are taught about them
Also, how old is she? Its implied she lives on her own
@@richietozier7091 i imagine she's 14 at best since they say she's in high school
In sixth grade, I played the Once-Ler in a stage production of The Lorax. This was about one year after the movie came out. I had not seen it yet, and we watched it after the play concluded.
Come the end, I turned to my friend and said: “I’m in love with myself.”
this is funny
How does it feel to be a prophet?
On brand for the fan base lmao. The Oncelerfandom basically invented selfshipping. All this could have been avoided if there had been another twink his age in the movie but allas. The onceler walked so Thomas Sanders and his Talkshow with himself could run I guess.
@@acanimatics906 *deep, deep sigh* We know.
Hell yeah self care!
I was never in the Once-ler fandom, but to me, it's the best thing to ever happen to humanity. Like... how hilarious is that that a bunch of teens just decided to deify an animated fedora twink, write thousands of fanfiction, draw weirdly horny art and shipped him with himself ? Humanity peaked with the Once-ler fandom and you can't convince me otherwise.
FINALLY someone appreciates the legacy
As someone who only found out about the onceler Fandom over covid, I wholeheartedly agree. There's just something really incredible about the Fandom as a person looking in from the outside. Also it's just fucking hilarious
Agreed
as someone who just joined the fandom, i can relate
@@-peekaboocat- Yeah, they didn't (th)need to make him cute. I mean, since when did Dr. Seuss make characters with sex appeal?!
we watched the older lorax version in geography class (topic: sustainability). Afterwards we discussed what the onceler could have done differently. Everyone suggested stuff like „plant a tree for every tree he cut down“ „ Switch to clean energy to not pollute the air“ „set up a reservoir/ protected area for the inhabitants“.
I suggested that he should have listened to the Lorax and not even start his business. The Lorax gave him several chances and told him if he stops now, they can still set things right. Setting up a reservoir for the natural inhabitants of the land he didn’t even owned seemed plain wrong because they were there before him and they shouldn’t have to compromise for the destruction of their own land. They were used to freedom and deserve their freedom. Instead he waited until a completely new generation had to right his wrongs. He passed the responsibility onto someone else even though this was his doing. No one actually needed a thneed, they were fine without it and wanted it for their own consumerism. I cited quotes from the video to back up my opinion.
Anyways, my teacher told me that I’m wrong and that he couldn’t just shut his business down because of the money he invested and that I should look for compromises as an answer. He would shut all of my arguments down as wrong and I got a bad grade. That shit made me furious.
On your behalf, fuck that teacher. Business use greenwasing to justify screwing up the environment all the time. What's stopping them from creating a nondestructive business model?
@@dubiousseed3272 yeah exactly!! And I think an issue that many businesses have and that also my teacher missed in the video that we watched/ my answer: They should listen to those affected because usually they know the best (example: Native people knowing how to take care of the environment, being banned from it, the government notices the environment is getting worse, like forests, and then allowing them to do their stuff again). Businesses do what they believe is "best" while keeping their profit in mind. The lorax told the onceler what to do and he ignored until the end only to end up eventually doing what the lorax told him to do.
If they wanna actually improve stuff: listen to those affected and what the actual problem is. Fashion brands bringing out one collection of "sustainable" clothes alongside 3 normal ones is not sustainability. Bringing out less collections (not like,, weekly??) and making all of them sustainable would be a better approach. Not perfect but at least they would seem like they are making an effort instead of doing it for positive publicity

Some The Lorax fun facts: Unlike the original book, the Once-ler is shown fully in the story as a human. Executive producer Christopher Meledandri said of the change, "The minute you make the Once-ler a monster, you allow the audience to interpret that the problem is caused by somebody who is different from me, and it ceases to be a story that is about all of us. Then it's a story about, 'Oh I see, the person who led us into the predicament is not a person. It's somebody very, very different.' And so it takes you off the hook." Ed Helms aka ANDY FROM THE OFFICE voices both the young, and old versions of the Once-ler (which makes the movie and the Once-ler character even better...Andy got his singing career).
Although they go uncredited because they have no lines of dialogue at all in the movie, O'Hare's henchmen are called Buddy and McGirt. Together, they are named after retired champion boxer Buddy McGirt, who during his boxing career was the IBF light-welterweight champion, and Lineal and WBC welterweight champion.
Thank you Kim Jong Un, President of the North Korean Republic.
How do you know the Once-ler isn't human in the book? At one point he literally says "Well, I speak for men and human opportunities." It doesn't necessarily confirm that he's a human, but you (and Chris Meledandri) also shouldn't jump to conclusions that he isn't.
@@MaxBunny7902 Correction: the Once-ler says that in the 1972 TV special, not the book. But either way, i agree with you. I think it was pretty obvious the Once-ler was already human. I don't think Chris knew what he was talking about.
On an unrelated note, i wonder what Seuss's widow, Audrey (who also worked as executive producer) thought of the film? We all know she HATED the Mike Meyers Cat in The Hat movie, but what would she have thought of THIS movie based on her husband's work?
HE ALSO VOICED OLD ONCELER?? that’s impressive
@@Purrrrrrsia Yeah, it sounds so much like a different voice actor rather than the same one.
2:36 That's the most accurate description of the Onceler.
✨️YES✨️
one of this movie's mistakes was making the antagonist a cute musician with mommy issues
EXACTLY
Yes!!
Yeah, in the original book, he was meant to be like the ultimate manifestation of corporate greed, a villain who remained irredeemable until the end where he gives the seed to the boy.
But in this movie, he's not really much of a villain, most of the time. You could agrue he becomes that later on, during the HBCIB sequence but...does he really?
For me he just seemed less of a merciless captialist and more of a guy who was like "Oopsie! I went a little over my head and destroyed an entire ecosystem!"
Like, no! That is NOT how most captialists think: They aren't obviloius to what they’re doing, they just don't give a shit about it. That's all.
All in all, this movie was VERY inaccurate to that fact.
A fact about this movie...Danny DeVito didn't just do the English version, he reprised his role for the Spanish, Russian, German, AND Italian versions as well! Yeah I'm definitely not gonna lie and say I didn't blast How Bad Can I Be in my room many times when I have. It's a banger, simple as that. As Megamind once said, the difference between a villain and supervillain is the presentation, and the Onceler went off. My canon is that the British colonialists played this song while stealing resources as they colonized around twenty-five percent of the world. Also, I guess we're not gonna bring up the fact that as they're going down the ski hill during the chase at 1:07, the trees are literally LEGO trees?
i will never accept the fact that Marco Mengoni, two times Sanremo winner and well-known pop singer in italy, Voiced the Onceler in the italian dub....
The first and only time I watched this movie I kinda zoned so when the "How bad can I be?" sequence started I was confused why the Once-ler suddenly became evil.
I think I actually have watched this movie twice, my first time watching it I only watched a little bit.
I apologise if I worded my comment a bit weird.
I knew he was the villain just looking at him.
I was pretty much the perfect age when this movie came out. Still really young, so I was in the target demographic, but old enough to have read the original. So my reaction to the song was more of a “Oh no, here we go!”
I only watched it torture myself…
Ok but remember they replaced ‘Biggering’ with ‘How Bad Can I Be”. It is a CRIME.
True 👌
I actually like 'How bad can I be" way more than biggering
@Manx
Fr it is- Biggering had so much more depth and sounded a lot more malicious than HBCIB.
In HBCIB it said “who cares if a few trees are dying?” while in Biggering he went “who cares if some things are dying?” implying not only trees, but animals too. Made it a lot more sinister.

I watched The Lorax with my friend at a sleepover and her mom came in while the Once-ler was on-screen and said, "He's hot." A woman in her 40's said that. Earth is a weird place.
The fact that I had a crush on the onceler is slightly disturbing but in my defense I was 11 and you couldn’t put a dude in a stylish af green suit with a badass song and electric guitar in front of me and expect me to be like: “nah pass”
Not me pausing over and over to read the whole onceler character analysis. He has a lot more character than I realized
BRO HOW I WATCH THIS MOVIE YESTERDAY AND THEN WANTED YOU TO DO THIS MOVIE
3:25 How Bad Can I Am... All of Me
You know o hare wasn't that bad since no one HAD to buy the air cause they didn't cough anywhere except in the flashback
NAH MAN. that long essay about the once-ler then just a vigilante lorax
had me rolling on the floor
8:35 I read that whole thing and I now understand 😭
Devastated to see a lack of Biggering supremacy
I heard you read wikki comments. How about the Magnus archives comments? They're low-key the most chaotic thing ever
