    Let me open with saying that I was really excited about this layout; I think I pre-ordered it the day they announced it. For me, this design checks most of the boxes that I love. Everything seems to have been carefully thought out and considered, even the swag and packaging. Unfortunately, the big miss for me was the quality control and the customer service.
    My Bible arrived with some scratches in the gilt and a few sections of pages that had smashed corners (around 100 pages). Upon reaching out to Steadfast, they claimed that these issues with within the manufacturer's tolerances... A back-and-forth ensued, and eventually a resolution was reached, but not as good a one as I was hoping for.
    Two days before I filmed this review, they sent out an e-mail saying that some of the ICR Bibles are coming loose from their bindings due to not having enough glue applied. Another miss.
    When you pay such a steep price for a Bible, you expect a higher level of execution that was was offered here. I might suggest that if Steadfast is going to charge big-boy prices, they either need to go back to Jongbloed for production, or be willing to better handle production-related issues for their customers.
    I still absolutely love this edition, but I'm not going to be able to purchase from Steadfast in the future without having a moment of doubt as to whether or not they will stand behind their product...

    I think you are too spoiled brother, anywhere in the poor side of counties would just keep the bible as it came and be glad that they have such a beautiful bible in their hands, there are a couple of places where just one page of the Word is a blessings. keep the bible with its defects, that just adds character to your particular copy.

    • @RustyBibles
      @RustyBibles  ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Yes, this is God's word, and I am truly blessed to have even one copy of it in my life. I admit that. But it's easy to forget that the physical presentation of it is still an expensive, tangible product. I paid full asking price for the Bible, so I expect full quality. Do you think a scratch on a Hasselblad camera lens "adds character"? Is a crack in a 1940 Martin acoustic guitar neck a minimal thing? Are those issues not worthy of bothering with - especially if you paid full price for the item? Should a Bible be any different just because it's a Bible? Does the fact that it's a Bible give the company leeway to produce a flawed product, charge a premium, and provide sub-par customer service?

    • @abc-wv4in

      @@RustyBibles Yes, we are spoiled in so many ways, but that said, I have to agree with you. That binding is very expensive for what it is, and it's not unreasonable to expect premium quality and customer service. At the least they should have replaced the Bible at the same price you paid.
      I've just become aware of the LSB translation. While the NKJV is my favorite, I also love the NASB and the ESV and KJV. I want' to purchase an LSB which led me to YT reviews. Thanks for yours.

      The first "premium" bible I ever bought was the handy size blue goatskin first edition LSB. The gold gilt line was jacked up. It was really disappointing.
      Bought a Cambridge KJV Topaz blue goatskin, and the ribbons were inserted wrong, skewed toward the front instead of centered and spread out evenly, if that makes sense. I was able to fix that myself, and I'm in love!
      Bought a Humble Lamb KJV lion and the ribbons were a complete joke, just sort of smashed or stuffed in there.
      What's my point? I don't know. Just saying I've been disappointed too. When you pay $200+ for a premium bible, it ought to be done right.
      This is just God's way of telling you to stick with the cameo, and telling me to stick with budget bibles. 😊

    I hope they allow Schuyler to make an LSB Quentel, so we wouldn’t have to rely on a single source for this translation.

      I'm curious what the chances are for this. I know Schuyler picked up the NASB 2020 in the Stridon line, so I'm wondering if the demand would be great enough between the two without cannibalizing any sales. To be honest though, a Schuyler editions of most translations would be excellent!

      @@RustyBiblesSchuyler went 2020 to capture more sales, but may drop NASB all together in a year or two. They posted a notice in a spot or two. It was a sales champ that lead in multiple categories, it's not now because the boomers and bible nerds that were NASBonly got theirs and quit buying - and NASB is now split camps 77/95/2020/LSB and nobody even knows if LSB and 2020 are gonna last long. 77 is almost dead, 2020 might be a sleeper but seems like a dud (it might be great but most consider it a watered down 95, and they want their 95) and LSB is living off JMac fanboys - GCC predator elder scandal and JMac senility/retirement are going to kill the legacy of the guy pushing the LSB. How many boomers are ill from old age and the "vaccine" hysteria? That market is dying.
      ● You can sell anyone a (several if they geek out) premium ESV or NIV, the market is full of competition trying to undercut prices or offer even nicer editions every year.
      ● NLT is criminally under represented in the premium tier so it's an easy market to capture. Many people like it for long reads or travel, even more justification to buy a premium.
      ● CSB is still new, hot AND under represented among premiums. They're gonna keep selling awhile, at least another 5 years.
      ● KJV and NKJV sell consistently, no hype beyond specific editions but they're ubiquitous standards. Unless Zondervan does something weird with the licensing, NKJV should be safe. KJV is respected, also has its own cult, broadly accessible without copyright too.

    Hi there! Two weeks ago I ordered the black genuine leather LSB ICR. I was excited to see it shipped. When it arrived, I received the faux leather instead...disappointed. I received it on a Friday so I emailed back with a pic showing what I received. On Monday they responded within an hour after they opened. I received a label to print out for the return and they FedX the genuine leather Bible. I received it on Wednesday. However, I did open the faux leather during the weekend as I wanted to see the text and experience the paper grade. In all fairness to 316, on Thursday, I emailed them stating I decided to keep the faux leather (could have it rebound in future). They gave me a 10% discount on the faux leather for their mistake and I paid for it right then. Issue was resolved. Both copies are stellar in regards to construction. However, the gold gilding was messy on both copies. But I don't allow myself to get upset over the gilding as that gets messed up quickly after normal use anyways. Sorry to hear that your experience with 316 was less than you had expected. But my dealings with them during the past couple years have been great. Love the ICR. It has become my everyday carry.

I have decided to hold off, even from the RJB goatskin binding (@ $234) since someone mentioned they’d even had problems with theirs. I have numerous Schuyler Bibles so will put a premium purchase idea on hold for the time being & use my faux ones. Certainly hope Schuyler picks it up. Again, thanks for your opinion/share. ❤

      If you're really interested in the translation, I might wait until they're on their second printing. Hopefully by then, they have things down. I just purchased what I thought was the second run of the RJB Handy Size, and it turns out it was still the first printing blocks... So no update to the text for me... I e-mailed them a yes or no question as to whether or not the text had been updated and received a very long and convoluted answer with a link to an hour long video. It just left me more confused... I e-mailed them again for some clarity and didn't get a response...

    I have a handy size from Jongbloed. I'm happy with the quality overall, but I had to send my first one back for a replacement. The text block was not only not centered in the cover, but it was also angled within the cover, and this was extremely obvious just from glancing at the book. They did provide a free replacement and cover all shipping costs.
    The replacement text block was slightly off-center in the cover, and the ribbons stained the pages. Thankfully, they offered a free tumbler to make me feel better about spending $225 on a Bible with colored stripes on the pages.
    In seriousness, I'm fairly happy with my purchase, but even one side of the tag on the Bible armor they sent me isn't printed anywhere near the center. There are minor printing issues (red ink faded in some areas, line matching is non-existent in some places), but I think at some point we're paying for simply the small size of the operation rather than the quality of the Bibles.

      @@dougholiday7523 that's good to hear. I'm in the middle of a read-through now, and it would be a shame if I finally got the LSB only to have issues with the binding, and them to tell me I'm out of luck since it's been too long. Personally, I've had nothing but quality support from Steadfast Biubles 316 Publishing.
    That being the case, maybe the best option would be to send it back for replacement.

    • @RustyBibles

      It was a little confusing. Initially they offered me either a $15 refund to keep the Bible, or I could send it back for a full refund. The problem is, I want an ICR! Haha! So if I would have sent it back and gotten a full refund, I could have placed an order for another, but I would have had to pay the full price ($20 more than the pre-order price). There is also the risk that I could have received another Bible with issues that was "within manufacturer's tolerances". At that point I would have paid $20 more, wasted a lot of time, and still had a defective Bible. I didn't want to take that risk. So I accepted their refund, which they upped to $20 in the mean time - still not enough in my book considering the amount of damage. I would have been fine sending the Bible back if they would have just sent me a replacement, or honored the pre-order pricing, but they would not.

      I am curious if they've revamped their customer service since this. I heard a bunch of horror stories around the time I posted this video, but recently I've heard a couple positive reviews of their customer service. Hopefully it's a new standard and not just a one off...

    Their customer service is trash, I ordered an edge lined goatskin handy size special edition and it came out of line, paper damaged, and 5 or 10 pages with ink on them, and falling apart from the binging, and the corner work was really bad. took like a month going back and forth, many pictures to show and finally was offered a coupon code for the price i paid, minus the tax and shipping (i live in canada) They finally sent me a new one, but it took so LONG seriously never ordering from them again. I have 4 LSB goatskins, 1 Shamar 1st edition 1 hardcover. i don't need anymore.

    Most of the more critical reviews have been nitpicky stuff. I'm very impressed with the LSB. I still have my dad's NASB from 1980. I think it's better than the NASB.

    Maybe you should have went and picked the bible up in person. Lord only knows what that package went through just getting to your house. If you’re actually going to be using the bible, you’ll probably inflict more damage than it has in a pretty short period of time. Probably should be content with what you got, and be thankful you got it at all.

    • @RustyBibles
      @RustyBibles  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      316 Publishing is located on the opposite side of the country from me. The Bible was well packaged, and the package itself wasn't damaged. The issue was quality control. Just giving the $200+ Bible a once over would have caught the mistake; that paired with poor customer service sealed the deal for me. I am certainly content owning even one Bible, but there is a certain level of care and customer service expected at that price point. The Bible I use for church is $30 and I had no issues with the damage it had on the gilt when it arrived, because that is the expectation for a $30 Bible.

  • @Tzuriah
    @Tzuriah 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The most important thing??? No! The most important thing lies inside the cover! God’s Word! Customer service, bent pages and gilding are NOT! I understand that price should = quality but after reading the Bible consistently it would end up looking beat up and well loved anyway. Yes, I agree that 316 won’t drop prices….case in point….the latest handy sized from Jongbloed had the lesser quality ribbons bleed onto the pages, so they offered another product with it rather than drop the price. The book block is good and the same in all the different covers.

    • @RustyBibles
      @RustyBibles  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed! The most important part is what's on the pages. "Most Important" from a company/customer perspective. From a Christian perspective, I'm still gonna read the beans out of it. :D

    Does it really take 33 minutes to tell us one thing wrong with the Bible and why it's wrong? Time is precious and, not to mean this as an insult, but there are extremely few people on TH-cam that are worth listening to for more than a few minutes. Get to the point, state it, and let us go listen to something else. Who gives a hoot about getting a pin and what kind of stock the advertisements were printed on. Tell us, according to the title of your video, what's wrong with the Bible and shut it down. I can tell you that for myself, I'm not gonna listen to a half hour of filler to get what can probably be said in one minute. I'm moving on so I don't know what's wrong with this Bible.
