You both are so awesome. Love the banter and energy you both have. Love this list. Makes me wish my area had more Arran bottles to choose from. I got one of the last Black Bottle in my area. Had no idea it could be a mixer.

I think my "everyday drinker" (for now) would be the Black Bottle Double Cask, my "impress your guests" would be Glenfiddich Project XX, my "mixer" is Chivas Regal 12 or Bowmore 12 depending on the drink, my "Friday Pour" would be Kilchoman Sanaig, my "Special Occasion" WAS Glenfarclas 25 (price just exploded), and now it'd be the Mortlach 16.

Really enjoyed the video. I've seen lots of these with Bourbon. I like the challenge of coming up with a Scotch list. I stuck with mostly readily available picks, no single barrels. Every day - Classic Laddie Impress - JW Island Green. It's friendly enough for newbies, but also interesting enough for experienced drinkers. Mixer - I normally wouldn't fashion a cocktail with scotch, because the bolder flavors of Bourbon tend to hold up better. So Aberlour A'bunadh. Friday night pour - Laphroaig Lore (Uigeadail if I can't get Lore) Special Occasion - really it's a SMWS bottle. But if I'm going with something I can find on a shelf Glendronach 18 Allardice.
On the Isle of Mull they mix Ledaig 10 in their dairy cream for Cranachan.. must be a quite peated one.. I personally tried Laphroaig 10 once, but it was much too peaty 😂😛

You are totally right here! We use this as an example in tastings that you should drink your whisky how you like it best whether that is neat or mixed. Laphroaig will taste different mixed to, for example, Glenmorangie or Glenfiddich.
I really enjoy these 5 whiskies for different occasions Videos. Knew yours would be fun! Which deanston 20 are you referring to is it the 55.3% oloroso from 2015?
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Great presentation. You lovely ladies do speak fairly quickly and with a bit of an accent so if it's not too much trouble would you be able to write the names of the whiskies you choose in the comments. I will continue to watch your videos regardless of your decision.

Interesting video. Not my cup of tea, because imported stuff is significantly more expensive in the States for me. My list would primarily be bourbons with more diverse offerings for mixers and special occasions.
Yeah, this is another reason we don't like to give prices as they can vary so much from pace to place! Its really interesting seeing everyone's differing lists!

I too want to say that I like your content very much :). And not only do I find your accent lovely, but it makes for some unintended entertainment should you put the automated captions on: I've learned for example that you can impress a guest with a "green allergy" (Glenallachie). And I'm pretty sure it's "syrupiness" Jen meant at 5:55! Anyway, I do agree that some version of Arran and Ledaig should make it to most 5 whiskies challenges!

Haha, sorry we are not the easiest to understand. And we are told here often that we don't have strong accents! I think even the subtitles think I am called Jane but I'm actually Jen (Jennifer) and my Friday night pour was the Cu Bocan (peated Tomatin) Signature. Cu Bocan is Gaelic meaning "Ghost Dog" from a legend in the area about a beast that used to chase people home from the pub!

The Malt Activist did this. I'm with Jen here it should be timeless. Top entertainment girls. You are whisky geeks not whiskey snobs so tell me this please. There seems to be a growing trend (its maybe always been there) for the You Tube reviewers to wax lyrical about higher ABVs and 40% is not good enough. Is it a snobbish thing or does the whisky really taste better plus it makes the whisky more complex there more to talk about . I must add I'm very new to the whisky lifestyle. Cheers
Once you get your palate acclimated to higher strength spirits, you'll understand. The ethanol carries the bulk of the flavor, so it's just richer and more concentrated than you get at 40%. It's hard to go back.
You can totally get really good 40% whisky in our opinion. Its not so much about the %abv but the chill-filtered v unchill-filtered. When its chill-filtered it can be bottled at the minimum abv of 40% when its un-chillfiltered the oils haven't been removed before bottling and it can go cloudy, especially if bottled at a lower abv. To keep the whisky from going cloudy, it is bottled at a higher abv, usually 46% or above. Although we think it can probably be a snobbish thing as well, we definitely find that a 40% abv (and therefore chill-filtered) dram can sometimes feel a little thinner and not have as much of a finish.
I really enjoy your videos. They are fun to watch. I appreciate your extensive knowledge of scotch. I like your attitude.
