"And I hope you'll be as happy as our cruel world allows." If anyone at Downton Abbey deserves a fairytale ending it's Mr. Barrow. Though with Barrow in America, Master George is loosing a good friend. 😥
... I fear Barrow may not have a happy ending....
Anachronistically implausible.
@@ceebee23 there's Gods and Monsters with the suggestive pool parties.
And Miss. Sybbie🥺
Thomas can always come back to visit and exchange letters with George.
''And I hope you'll be as happy as our cruel world allows.''🌈
SHE 👏SAID 👏THAT👏
A fantastic line. And what adds to it is the fact that contrary to popular belief, Thomas and Guy aren’t really rushing into things, romantically speaking. Thomas already needed a fresh start from Downton, and Guy can use his connections to help him find work at the Hollywood studios in the backstage departments (perhaps dressing actors similar to dressing employers as a valet, or even becoming a production manager which runs somewhat similarly to the operation of a house; schedules, organizing, etc., all things that Thomas can do.) When it comes to their romantic relationship, they have an entire sea trip across the Atlantic to New York and then an entire train ride to California to really get to know each other. They have time to build and develop the connection they feel.
YES WE HEARD
I think it’s very apt that at 2:05. Straight after Cora says ‘why is she so nice all of a sudden’ and the director replies ‘simple she not afraid any more’ you see Thomas.
Ugh I hate how they made Bertie put his foot in his mouth like that! He's so smart and thoughtful and it was out of character!
Exactly !! Season 6 Bertie would never acted like that 😂
@@priscilliambemba8888 The whole movie was badly written for me. Bertie was not the only one to say and do things there character would never have done in the TV series.
@@jaguar3248 He didn’t seem to do much in this movie aside from dig into the Dowager’s past.

Loved Mary's support of Branson
@Carleen I meant Barrow of course
Especially when you consider how dismissive she was of him in the first movie, having Carson come in to run things for the Royal Visit because she thought Thomas couldn't pull it off! She must have developed a better view of him in the time between films.
Lady Mary had already accepted Barrow before, as evidenced by her comment about the handsome stewards strutting on deck in season 4.
Downton Abbey is such a great series.
So positive and powerfully inspiring
That knowing smile on Mary.
Am I the only one who wants a Barrow-centered spin-off? 😅🙈
I'd love one
hopefully
Yes please
No, I want an early years Violet spin-off.
I want a lady Mary spin-off
Loved this series. Wish they'd make another one:)
Gilded Age is keeping up.
After watching 6 seasons of Downton Abbey and two movies, I have a better understanding why people became so addicted to this series and movie. All the actors truly play their parts astonishing well
Just watch this movie... Wt a ending oooo I will miss violet.. Lady Grantham 😭😭😭
I still wonder what happened to Sir Anthony Strallan. His story was never truly finished. 😞
Well there's no point in him showing up to pursue Edith. Not only is she married with kids, but I'm pretty sure she outranks him now. I'm not sure how much of a story he had with anyone else. Evelyn Napier would have more reason to show up in a third film and he was barely useful as a character.
@@curtyeomans8446 As the daughter of an Earl, Edith always outranked Anthony. I agree that Anthony would have no chance whatsoever of success in pursuing Edith now. Also, he is so honourable that he would not do so. I just would like his story to be completed, and the two of them to find peace with each other and the past.
Ugly man.
*Antony
The name Antony/Anthony can be spelled both ways, but in England and in the upper classes it is more often spelled with the h.
"And I hope you'll be as happy as our cruel world allows" said it all....and sadly not much has changed really in that regard.
In most of western countries? Yes. The situation has changed significantly. People at least have liberty since it's legal. Social acceptance is on the increase as well.
But in middle east and other Islamic and orthodox Christian nations? Oh boy! They are still being persecuted.
You obviously haven't been to San Francisco.
@@hiddenangel7664sometimes we don't realize how small that bubble actually is and considering the situation in the US how endangered that progress continues to be.
It actually has. Maybe you should appreciate those positive changes because in many countries (iran, russia etc) there is none.
@@yevgeniyaleshchenko849 Seriously? Iran, Russia is your barometer? Ykes!
Where is Dowton Abby new Era streaming
One thing about rich people, they're not used to hearing, NO.
He got his happy ending
True wt Mary said... Cruel world
With these happy endings, i guess there will be no more sequel? They are all settled and happy now
No, I hear talk of them making another movie but about the next generation. George, Sybbie, Marigold they are all growing up now and they’ll be old enough for World War II to start while they are coming out to the world.
@@CSGray-nf2hx really? A story about their children? I guess there wouldn't be characters like carson, mrs. Hughes, and other old characters. That would be sad :(
@@ReadStreak There could be. WW2 would only be ten years in the future. While Carson might no longer be alive by that point, Hughes still may be.
I swear I remember reading or hearing somewhere that the writer was thinking about a prequel series based on Robert and Cora’s courting. Since it was said in the original series that Robert only married Cora for her money and didn’t fall in love with her until about a year into their marriage it would be quite interesting to see!
Though that was quite a while ago so I’m not sure if it’s actually going to happen. If it did though it would be interesting to see someone playing a young Violet Crawley! Not that anyone could ever fill Maggie’s shoes! 😂
@@Camilla550 i actually heard about the rumor of prequel series but the creator of the series made The Gilded Age. Both shows are in the same universe. Also, i heard that the creator of downton abbey wanted young robert and cora to appear on The Gilded Age. But idk the follow up of the rumor
If Mary ever has another love interest/marriage it should be the Evelyn Napier 😅
No it should be Charles Blake. Maybe Henry will leave her and she’ll end up with Charles. After that mud fight, how could they not, honestly?
YESSS
Yes to Charles Blake I mean
Lucy she is so alike Sibyl
I was so hoping it was going to be Ediths assistant who caught the bouquet instead of this broad.
*like
It’s just a film FFS
''And I hope you'll be as happy as our cruel world allows.''
Anyone who knows their history knows that anything to do with the LGBT community wasn't legalised in the UK until 1967. Barrow deserved love, he deserved a true friend
My grandmother knew Julian Fellowes's mother quite well and they used to call her the scrubber "because she'd go on knees for thruppence" 😅
Are you naturally nasty or did your grandmother drag you up to be nasty?
Would explain a lot about his writing vis a vi class
Why repeat something so nasty?
I reckon for Tom and Lucy their first born will be a son!
How do you "reckon" that?
@@l.a.3479 Tom already has a daughter, and films tend to go towards giving couples one of each, for a sense of "completeness". 😉
Exactly that@@Galastel
Oh i agree i would love to see a barrow spin off....his travels..experiences as a dresser...stars hollywood everything...finally find his happiness
What does Barrow mean honest way of life?
He'll have a place where he can truly be himself - even if he can't show the outside world - and perhaps someone loving him for who he is. Guy has already shown him more warmth and acceptance than anyone he ever 'dated' or imagined being with except possibly the King's valet in the first film and, since that man chose to marry a woman, Thomas, while Mrs Hughes reminded him of why this was understandable, found it inauthentic. He told the housekeeper that that was not how he wanted to live his own life.
@@TudorQueen I didn't see the movie. So, he will be traveling and living with that guy as a couple behind closed doors because of the norms of the time.
@@cocochocookiedough That's pretty much the situation. Guy evidently liked him from the beginning, then suggested that he come to see his house which is outside of Hollywood, which he finds a little too 'wild'. He offered Thomas the job of "looking after me, making m e comfortable, making us both comfortable..." Then in their next encounter, Thomas, who'd been thinking about the offer, asked about what it might mean. "It can mean as much or as little as you want," Guy responded, clearly treating Thomas as someone whose own ideas had importance and value. "I'd want it to mean quite a lot," Thomas replied, and Guy smiled deeply and said, "Then. you're in luck," before continuing wherever he was going. So I think it is likely that while his new life wouldn't be perfect - whose is? - Thomas Barrow did get a happy ending!
@@TudorQueen Wow how people used to communicate. And still do. In such an ambiguous manner. I'm glad he got a happy end inspite of everything. Who knows, maybe it even changed him.
So, has downton made another film or what ?
Both films are weak.
@@taroman7100 yeah, as much as I love downton The movies feel weird in comparison to the show
They did, last year
@@MandieTerrier came out last year but was filmed in 2021
@@taroman7100 They have nothing to do with the rest of the series. Although I do like how this movie got more into the Dowager’s past.
What happened to Mary's husband.
Alien abduction. 🛸
I assume he had a conflict in his schedule and wasn't available for this movie.
@@a.t.c.3862 I'd be down for him showing up in the third film and revealing he'd gone on some Last Starfighter-type adventure where he went to space and fought in an intergalactic war.
The guy had bigger fish to fry. They had zero chemistry. Whole thing was rushed as they had to wrap up the series.
He'd died in a car crash right after there son was born sorry u have to deal with these jackasses on here

Honestly I thought this movie was exciting to watch, I loved it but my only concern were why all the white folks in this movie were made to look like tanned vintage leathers? While watching it on dvd I did try to colour contrast the movie for a more natural look but it didn’t work, so was it in the contract that because it was a period drama that they all had to look like battered vintage leather? And the actor, Hugh Bonneville, after all that plastic surgery done to his face, was he able to smell his own butt as the skin on his face looked so plastic and tight, and with the weight loss, I wondered whether the tight skin of his face were pulled up so tightly from bottom up. The movie had so many different stories going on at once and I wonder wouldn’t it have been far better to bring back a new series to space out the stories? Anyway, I do hope there’s more to come from the Downton Abbey franchise
DA 2 was awful
The Barrow saga ends. Good riddance to bad trash.
"A lack of compassion can be as vulgar as an excess of tears."
The only trashy thing here is you, so be a dear and put yourself on the curb, it is garbage pick up day
So Barrow and the Prince of Wales got together?
Yes! And the Queens daughter married Branson. Also, the queens former private secretary married Edith.
