I recently bought a sabrent USB capture device and decided to give this a try because I could. the chipset my USB device uses is the STK1160 (Sabrent model USB-AVCPT) the drivers are available with a quick search but the Android Easy Cap app recognized it right away. using my LG G4 it works great, and is a great salvaged FPV solution with my old G2. Thanks, Andy!
There is already some interesting test at 9:15, i downloaded the video and checked it frame by frame in VLC, when the change on the phone display happens. I got about 3-4 frames delay, so thats 100-133ms latency (30fps/33ms).
I have an EasyCAP based on Empia chip and a laptop running Arch Linux. I tried to use it for my FPV gear just today, I'm getting latency around 200-300ms (analyzing recorded video frame-by-frame). Long story short, it was too 'drunk' to be usable, and I had to maintain line of sight with my quad anyways, since I'm a noob that had his 3rd succesful flight on this quad today at all :)
AndyRC I'm going to look very dumb, I know, but isn't the receiver AFTER the Easycap? If the receiver receives the signal, it should then pass it onto Easycap, that will translate it into digital USB signal, and that signal then goes into the pc or smartphone, am I wrong?
weather you see it as being after or before theres only one way to connect it and that is through its USB port. it either bypasses the easycap converter all together and is just using the recognised device as a vehicle to get the video onto the computer. or the easycap device can accept any analog video and can be intercepted via the video out. I dont have one so i cant give a full answer however subscribers are using them and im told they work very well.
AndyRC OK OK I trust you, I only can't understand how it works. Thought that the IN of the Easycap was the RCA cables in analogic form, and then the video sent in digital form to the device out at the USB port. Clearly, there's something I'm not aware of :D
Thank you so much. This is exactly what I was looking for. Wanted to do a ride along fpv screen without buying another, then you go and show the possibilities of DVR as well. Thank you for exhausting your time and energy to working all this out. Very appreciated
Thanks for taking the time to verify the compatible chipsets. My device is branded as the Kworld USB2800d and unfortunately uses the EMPIA EM2860 device which isn't compatible. For the sake of £3 for the APP I tried it anyway only to be told that no suitable device was found. Not to worry a compatible device is relatively cheap, certainly cheaper than the added expense of a dedicated FPV monitor and DVR, so one will be ordered. Regards Nidge
A bit disappointing but not a game stopper. It works fine on the PC in APM Mission Planner, using the receiver in my FS Attitudes, and I've already secured an Android compatible device, thanks to your chipset recommendations. Regards Nidge
An idea... I have a small endoscope camera for an android phone. I plug the camera into the phone and the camera app automatically starts and shows the live video. Could I replace camera of the "endoscope camera" with the video signal that is coming from the fpv quadcopter's receiver and send it to the phone? Would that also allow me to fly an fpv quadcopter by looking at the smartphone? :)
+furulevi Screen recording on the smartphone is also available, the phone's battery could last longer, the screen might be brighter, the resolution higher, the phone weighs less than the fpv monitor... :)
Thank you very much for this great video. It's very helpful and saved me an awful amount of money. Had two tablets doing nothing but getting dust now they are part of my fpv equipment. Thank you so so much.
Sorry if this was asked before. BUt I want to replace my fatshark goggles with this setup using the goggle video you also released. What exactly do I need to do this ? 1: Plastic casing, Fresno lens. 2: EasyCap device 3: what do you use for the receiver ? and can I use the same antennae i bought for my fatshark on it ?
Mike Hoogstraat if you plan on using the cardboard view u dont need the lens. for the receiver u can use any thats compatible with the frequency u are using, im guessing 5.8g?
What would the range be on this? I have an rc car that I like to drive on trails, but I can only drive it 50 or so feet before I lose sight of it in the woods. I'd love to be able to use an fpv setup to drive it farther without having to stop and catch up to it as often.
Depends on frequency, power level, and antenna type. generally lower frequencies travel further, high power travels further, and more directional antennas travel further. you'll probably have to upgrade your entire vtx system to get better range
i just ordered one of these for another reason. i hope mine will be the right version. waiting for it to get here. but none the less i just wanted this to record video.. stumble onto this video and was like bonus! thanks for the video.
+AndyRC hi andy, well i took this apart and looks like i do not have the right one.. sigh. this is what it says: HTV600 A187286.1 1512L1BK 1 there is one place on the PCB that says UTV007-v1.0-OVERFLY printed in white letters next to the cables coming out by soldering pad J2 right under it. then the only other number i could read was by the USB metal plug, the metal pill shape part, it just says 12000. i guess i could try ordering another one of these off ebay for 5.00, the sellers have no clue what chip they use. now im not sure if i was reading the right spot.. if it was on the PCB then looks like i would.. but i pretty sure you meant the chip.

Thank you for the video! I picked up the "Easier Cap" from Banggood which is apparently a clone, so hopefully it'll work with this app. The question I have is does the app allow you to double up the screen to be used on Google cardboard? Google cardboard requires two images side by side to function correctly.
angelos christou it is basically replacing the monitor section of the fpv system with your phone. The ecap device gives cables that attach to your phone to connect to the rc receiver on the ground. Everything else is the same, the way you hook up your camera to your transmitter on your plane. Hope it helped you :)
i have small HP laptop with windows7 . bought an easycap. my question is how can I run this full screen instead of the small capture screen in the software..... Great Video !!
Thanks for the good video. It all connects OK and I have the 007 chipset, however I get a partial signal that's very blocky and colourful. I can see shapes so I'm getting some sort of signal. Any idea why?
+AndyRC I'm going to order a new USB OTG cable. The fact I'm getting a signal gives me hope, the OTG cable is 5 years old so it could be that. I've got to stop watching your videos, I'm about to order the all of the parts for the micro quad that I don't need!
+AndyRC I got easy cap working, it was the video lead, I had used one from an old camcorder, when I pulled it out slightly from the receiver it worked. The az capture is also superb. Cheers.
hi Andy good vid. there are tons of these on the market can you post a link to where you purchased this please. as I can't be sure what version I'm getting. thanks.
+Thulfiqar Ali 5 negative feedbacks in 3 months isn't good it's terrible I have 100% positive in 5 years. That's good. and why say the seller is good when the seller is you. Nothing like bigin up yourself.
I believe the video signal from your drone is analog correct? I have a 5G Wi-Fi drone and my smartphone picks up the signal without your hack. I have a lot of latency though wondering how I can reduce that with a 5G Wi-Fi drone.
Thank you so much for that video, I have been trying to connect my backup camera but I had a hard time, now I now what app to use and already found it.
you wouldn't be able to get a mile realistically. part of the reason fpv works so well in the air is there's less obstacles in the way of the signal. this would not be the case low down to the ground
+AndyRC can you recommend some affordable system to use? I would like to use phone or tablet as screen. Weight and size won't matter. The camera probably gonna be a go pro. Its gonna be on a wheelchair based robot.
its odd that its not on the play store for you. android 4.4.4 is a recent version. infact az screen record doesnt work to well on lollipop. try to save it to your computer and install manually play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hecorat.screenrecorder.free&hl=en_GB
Brian Dombrowski I think only the easy cap viewer recognizes the devices so i dont think you can with the easy cap. however the laserbgc device is recognised as a webcam so can you connect as a webcam to periscope? its something i can try!
gadgetman 404 the range.depends on what fpv transmitter and receiver combination you use so which ever one u buy will determine that. the easycap device costs about 11gbp and the otg lead a couple of gbp. all the best
Great stuff! What is the video resolution for this set up? your other video only displayed at 640 x 480, is this better quality, or the same? I set up my (fake easycap) and the video quality is rather poor compared to my 7"FPV monitor.
So the final output is 640 x 480? Do you think there is a way to output at 720 or higher to take full advantage of the phones screen? I thought easycaps were able to output/capture at full 1080? using the same setup but with a laptop instead of phone, will you be able to display a higher resolution FPV? anyway, keep up the good work, this is super useful video!
Ashley Bennett I dont think easy cap outputs 1080p, i think its outputs the same resolution as dvd. if you are using it for fpv non of that matters because fpv cams are standard def anyways, either way i was really impressed with the quality of easycap on the phone
Im using a gopro hero3 to boscam VTX via usb output, to Boscam 308VRX, to easy cap to samsung galaxy s5. I can only get 640x480. IF i plug the VRX into my 7" fpv monitor, or 40" tv, i get better (perceived, with no way to measure) quality. Mostly less jagged straight edges, better colour depth. Have you come across any apps or settings that allow better than 640x480 display? I only ask out of curiosity to push this system to its limits. Other than that, it works fine for framing aerial videography shots and stills.
Can this be used with my Fatshark goggles as a second display? Run a video out from the goggles to my phone/tablet so another person could watch the video as I fly?
Someone may have mentioned this but if you're running Android 7.0 ot higher you can switch on "gamemode" and record what's on your cellphone. It's built in under "performance mode" in cellphone settings
Hello, i'm frm Portugal. Is the resolution the same or bigger than 640x480? Because I wanted to connect this to my android box, and a analog TV tuner would be connected to the easycap so I could watch analog TV on the android tv...
RandomVideoTime the resolution of the fpv camera is always the same 640 by 480 however the resolution of the phone used in this video is 1920 X 1080 with a pixel density of 400 ish so even though the resolutions are different the experience is higher quality than some other devices
Can you please give link for the connector widgets used to connect the cables to the recording unit. Why on earth aren’t they male connectors to begin with?
Hi AndyRC Great video! I have been looking for information on how to build a fpv system. The purpose of this system will be to be able to see 6 mm holes in a paper that is going to be located about 300 yds away. I would like to see the video and pictures in my phone. Could you recommend me what kind of items (camera, transmitter, receiver etc) would I need. I am totally new to this topic and would benefit from your help. Thanks
Thank you for your reply, the one I bought has STK1160 chip set, should I get UTV007 instead? Can you give me a link where can I buy this dongle.Thank you.
+Di Bay Rc the STK1160 chip is supported. i dont have a link this was bought off amazon years ago. have a look on ebay or look down the comments a few have posted links to where they got theres cheers
no, but there are otg cables (the cable between the easy cap and the phone) that have a usb aswell as a charging port on the other end so you're able to charge the phone as well as having an easycap connected to it.
+Rhéal Charbonneau if it has USB on the go it should work. i believe the app doesn't list itself under untested devices so might be worth you downloading the apk to a computer instead and trying it that way
Hello, Thanks for making this video. I just got one from Ali Express and it works perfectly after getting a couple from Amazon that didn't work. I was able to use it with my Samsung Tablet but my Samsung Galaxy S3 will not power the easycap. Do you know where I can get a good OTG cable for Samsung S3? Since that is what I want to use for fpv. I have made the goggles from your video as well.
Sol mag i think if the s3 does not usb otg then it wont work, you could try to look up to see if such a cable exists. i know some people hacked the nexus 4 to use usb otg by powering it separately
AndyRC Thanks for responding, can I use this cable ( shop.valarm.net/collections/cables-connectors/products/micro-usb-host-otg-y-cable-with-micro-usb-power-for-samsung) or do you know where I can get it cheaper? Also, I did not see the AZ Screen recorder in the play store. Did they change the name or it's no longer available?
Hi I have easycap stk1160. I got the video to work but there's one problem. If I connect easycap directly to my rc832 I won't get video but if I connect my easycap to another monitor that's already receiving video from the rc832 then I have video. I am using Samsung s4 with easycap viewer. Please help. Thanks
Hello Andy ! Thank you for your bright brilliant video. It definitely helps me through my initiation to fpv. I bought an Rtg01 otg for receiving fpv video from my tx03. I will use my tablet nexus 7. Do you think it could work with a fresnel lens ? I mean, I would like to build a diy goggles with otg+tablet+fresnel lens. Is there really a difference between lcd screen and my tablet screen ?
Does the app have a record function? Apologies if you mentioned it, I was not able to see the whole 17 minutes. Not concerned about actual FPV use since I have googles for that, but would be interested in recording from this device if possible to compare against my DVR.
Great video! is it possible to connect something like a Wii, and plug the RCA (Red, Yellow, and White cables) to my android phone through adapters and stuff? please help. Thanks!
Hey Andy RC, I have a 5.8mhz transmitter that I bought based off of your build a cheap quad. will this work with this setup or does it have to be a 1.3mhz. let me know because I want to use my phone to be my screen.
Could i use no apps and still do this?Because i am not sure how long any of these Apps would be on the Itunes or Google Play. And is this more reliable then getting a 5.8 monitor? And is this a good companion for some one using goggles and wants to give monitors a try?And can this be future prof? Thanks for helping.
Hi Andy, I also have the UTV007, but the Green light won't turn on when i connect it to the Samsung S3 mini (GT-I8200N i installed OTG checker and it seems as though it is supported).... so do i need to install the app in order to make the EASYCap turn on? Or does it turn on without the app installed
Chris V to me that sounds like the phone doesnt have USB OTG - even if you dont do anything else the usb OTG should power the device up even if not supported
+Chris V Hi, I have the same problem. I using a motorola moto G and it does do USB OTG but it will not recognize or power up the easycap. I do have the app loaded and I know for a fact I have everything wired correctly because it works on my laptop. and i do have the UTV007 chip. did you get yours figured out?
Thanks, this video was the first result when googling "smartphone fpv" and it made my day- I've already have a compatible smartphone and an easycap I was using for raspberry pi ambilight. Now I only have to wait until my google cardboard lenses arrive :D
Hi Andy, the easy cap viewer app isn't allowing me to access preferences to activate the usb 007, its just returning back to the main page. Could this be an issue with my phone our the app. Thanks in advance. Mike.
+AndyRC Yes it's turned on Andy and thanks for the rapid response btw, when i select preferences it displays the option screen for a mili second and then returns to the Easy cap viewer main page. Sorry for being a pain in the ass. Mike.
+Michael Leo I'm not aware of that device. do you have any other android devices to test to see if its doing the same? :-( 4.2 is KitKat I think? might be worth seeing if u can get a custom from installed. that's quite an old version now
Hi Andy. I own HTC Desire 820 G. I want to record from my camera Video output Audio output. How do I do this.Same Procedure as your phone? What is different. Plz Reply.
+Joseph Martin Augustin do you mean you want to do a screen record of the camera on your phone in action? would you not just use the record function on the camera phone itself? thx
Thank Andy, I want the Video & Audio from my Professional video camera onto the phone as a captured file so that I can edit on my mobile and share through Sendspace etc.Any other alternative set up likewise Easy cap and different apps?
is the problem that the video camera outputs to tape? because most video cameras will create a file to an SD card which then you would just transfer over to the phone or computer using a USB cabe? thanks
AndyRC Ok, that makes sense now. In that case I think I'll wait for LaserBSG to stock more of their micro USB devices before buying. In the meantime I could try writing my own webcam app which could be better suited for viewing FPV video
Yes, but I'd also like to be able to use the virtual reality features of cardboard to look away from the video, I think having the video on a virtual 3D surface in VR reduces motion sickness since it 'grounds' the user in a place where their brain doesn't expect physical forces of momentum.
bismark camilo if your small drone is using an SD card and your phone uses USB OTG you can use this cable along with a micro sd card reader to get files off it. i believe though that you need to root your phone to get this working. best to put them on a PC first then transfer to your phone by connecting the phone to PC and use mass storage
I have a note 4 and yes my phone have the root. And my (drone is 007 spy) it has his own camera, and i know the i can't used that to transfer the video. so that's why I say where did you get that small camera in ur drone. So i can put it to my and sure it can handler
Andy, I have the utv007 trying on the nvidia shield tablet. it doesn't seem to detect any input... does it have to be rooted? any way to see if it detects the usb
+Carlo Marcantonio no root is needed. when you say no input is detected. do you mean its recognizing your device but you are getting a blank screen or is it not detecting the module?
+AndyRC once plugged in nothing happens. works on my PC but how does android handle the driver... nothing toggles not even static. USB debugging is on and device supports USB host
+rayed farhad as long as they have one of the two chips talked about then they will work. if buying off ebay please message the seller to see what chip they have. I do not sell them myself. thanks
5.8ghz vtx and 1.3ghz receiver i thought you needed same frequency to work! i am new to fpv so bit confused there! so can i use this 1.3ghz receiver with hubsan 107d ?
Hi. Just try it some minutes ago with a UTV007 chipset, it doesn't work on my KitKat smartphone : "USB I/O error, cannot set video input", whatever is the "Change Video Input" :( Any idea ?
dude can you help me got i imax b6 charger which is great got 2000mah 2 cell 7.4 volt syma batterys ya you got it funny connectors but if i make connector lead that goes in side can i use this charger to charge them with just balance lead plugged in connection error message come up got old connector off an old fc board if soilder bannana connectorsnon in is it safe to charge using imax b6 as stock charger takes 3hr to charge for 8 min flight thanks
Could you tell if the easycap viewer app can be used with "3d" goggles with a feature to display "side-by-side" mirrored video from a single composite video source? ( BlitzWolf® VR Glasses for example) Thanks
Thanks for the video! I have a probleme to get it works though... I plugged my receiver to my easycap and then my easycap to my phone through a OTG cable. The problem is that my easycap doesn't seem to receive current from my phone... My phone is a Nexus 5 and the easycap has a UTV007. Is the OTG cable the problem? I see that you too have a nexus 5....
Hi Andy! great video. it helped me to make use of my easycap rather than lying around unused. mine is a cheap one comes with HTV600 chip. Easycap Viewer able to recognize it either selecting UTV007 or STK1160 in the software
Hi Andy, do you (or anyone else) know if there is a solution with HDMI Input? The Easycap Stick only supports SD Video, but i am looking for a solution with HDMI source to bring into a phone/tablet. Is there something like that out there? Thanx!
Nerys for me it was about seeing what was possible with the technology we have. however people are using their phone for all kimds of different fpv applications. for example some auto pilot software requires a pc link to ground station software. many people are using separate fpv devices. with the easy cap device it can all be done on your pc and now tablet/phone :-)
WOW, Andy just came across this video, It's amazing how much has changed and developed in the last 6 years.
What do you mean?
I recently bought a sabrent USB capture device and decided to give this a try because I could. the chipset my USB device uses is the STK1160 (Sabrent model USB-AVCPT) the drivers are available with a quick search but the Android Easy Cap app recognized it right away.
using my LG G4 it works great, and is a great salvaged FPV solution with my old G2.

Romain Janssens I have one of those devices
@magaiver smith yes I have, it will be one of the next videos coming up! cheers
I'm having trouble with an EMPIA easycap device.. Doesn't seem to be working :/
works with my EasyCAP and Nexus 7 2013 latest update (Android 6.0.1) with EasyCAP app. I set up from PAL to NTSC on the settings menu, and it works.
I can't understand the thing at 2:30: the peripheral is placed AFTER the Easycap, how can that work? The input video comes AFTER the receiver???
+Marco Maltese the usb in on the easycap has a video in on one of the pins. it just bypasses the composite cables
AndyRC I'm going to look very dumb, I know, but isn't the receiver AFTER the Easycap? If the receiver receives the signal, it should then pass it onto Easycap, that will translate it into digital USB signal, and that signal then goes into the pc or smartphone, am I wrong?

thanks for the heads up

+Miguel Vega wonderful story enjoy your FPV :)
+AndyRC thanks again mate. Blessings!
no problem :)

+AndyRC hi andy, well i took this apart and looks like i do not have the right one.. sigh. this is what it says:
HTV600
A187286.1
1512L1BK 1
there is one place on the PCB that says UTV007-v1.0-OVERFLY printed in white letters next to the cables coming out by soldering pad J2 right under it.
then the only other number i could read was by the USB metal plug, the metal pill shape part, it just says 12000.
i guess i could try ordering another one of these off ebay for 5.00, the sellers have no clue what chip they use.
now im not sure if i was reading the right spot.. if it was on the PCB then looks like i would.. but i pretty sure you meant the chip.
yes it should be written on the chips. did u try it with the app?
+AndyRC naw i did not feel like spending 6.00 to test it. i see your PCB does not have the white print "UTV007-V1.0-OVERFLY"

no worries. good luck
ordered the easycap after watching your video and it works great with my smartphone and rc832 receiver.
thanks a lot!
wonderful so glad to hear

Google cardboard requires two images side by side to function correctly.
WhiffleX It does not allow you to do that unfortunately.we need someone who can make us an app!
AndyRC I emailed the developer and they said cardboard support is coming soon!
that would be awesome ill look out for it! thanks
WhiffleX Do you know when it will support Google Cardboard? Thanks
Jon Car The developer told me within a month. Hopefully soon!
Do you know if the app will support Card board so we don't have to take apart the goggles and use them out of the box in 3D?
Jon Car it doesn't at the moment but someone contacted the developer and they say they are gonna add it
What a rear cam monitor instead of mobile phone do you that would work?
it may be a stupid question, but can i use it with a phone that doesnt support otg? because it has external power, doesnt use the phone battery.
I didn't really understand how the phone connects with the quadcopter's camera. Is there a video transmitter on the quadcopter?
angelos christou yes there is. check out my other vids cheers
angelos christou it is basically replacing the monitor section of the fpv system with your phone. The ecap device gives cables that attach to your phone to connect to the rc receiver on the ground.

i have small HP laptop with windows7 . bought an easycap. my question is how can I run this full screen instead of the small capture screen in the software..... Great Video !!
Bought adapter from Aliexpress for $ 8.04 and it works GREAT on my Asus Zenphone.
Thanks AndyRC!!!
+Sochibusi good to hear :)
where can i get that mini quad it looks sick but is it good for beginners like me who have flown mini quads before
+Hunter Cooke search on my channel build a microquad its on there :)
+AndyRC thanks
Thanks for the good video. It all connects OK and I have the 007 chipset, however I get a partial signal that's very blocky and colourful. I can see shapes so I'm getting some sort of signal. Any idea why?
+Andrew Cummings try switching pal to NTSC I have also had something similar and it was a faulty USB OTG cable
Cheers.
+Andrew Cummings I thought it was some kind of lead issue. glad u got it sorted
I don't have a PC that is working so I want to do the recording thing on my iPhone 5c do you know if you can use all the cable to a PC to a iPhone
king la be i dont think you can however im working on solutions to that
hi Andy good vid.
there are tons of these on the market can you post a link to where you purchased this please.
as I can't be sure what version I'm getting.
thanks.
+Thulfiqar Ali 5 negative feedbacks in 3 months isn't good it's terrible I have 100% positive in 5 years.
That's good.
and why say the seller is good when the seller is you.
Nothing like bigin up yourself.
+Thulfiqar Ali and 60 day delivery where is it coming from ? JUPITER !!!
Your house looks almost like the first Harry Potter movies.
+AndyRC do you think this setup would work for racing quads? is there any delay? or is better to buy quanum v2?
I don't have a racing quad myself. people suggest that this setup wouldn't work for racing so best to go with the quanam
Hi Andy could you put the links etc plus the MOB you are using above..??? Thanks....Laurie
the phone used is nexus 5 I got it so long ago I don't have the link but search on the chip and u should find one
Do you know of a similar solution that works for iphone 6 ? thanks
Gus F viewers are informing me that it cant be done on ios although i dont have an apple device so we need someone who has to try it!
I believe the video signal from your drone is analog correct? I have a 5G Wi-Fi drone and my smartphone picks up the signal without your hack. I have a lot of latency though wondering how I can reduce that with a 5G Wi-Fi drone.
The black part you're holding with your right hand at 3.05, what is that called?
Peter Zezima they are called RCA Phono AV CCTV Coupler MALE to MALE Plug Audio Video Gender Changer Adaptor
Thanks!!
That's one heck of a long name for that little plug, no way i could guess that
Peter Zezima Or you can just use an AV lead. :)
Thank you so much for that video, I have been trying to connect my backup camera but I had a hard time, now I now what app to use and already found it.
What is the max range I could get out of this setup on a ground vehicle? I looking for something cheap that can work at least a mile.
you wouldn't be able to get a mile realistically. part of the reason fpv works so well in the air is there's less obstacles in the way of the signal. this would not be the case low down to the ground
+AndyRC can you recommend some affordable system to use? I would like to use phone or tablet as screen. Weight and size won't matter. The camera probably gonna be a go pro. Its gonna be on a wheelchair based robot.
Hi. I can't find easycap on play store. Which other apps could do the job?
Stéphane LAFORÊT usually if you cant find it then your phone isnt supported :(
Yes you are right!
Sorry, can't find the az screen recorder app in the play store. Found one with a similar logo but not the same as in your video.
RCWilliam123 when i search for it, its the first thing that comes up, maybe your device is not supported. what android device are you using? cheers
AndyRC Thanks for the quick reply. I'm using a Sony Xperia (Modellnumber: C6603) with Android 4.4.4
its odd that its not on the play store for you. android 4.4.4 is a recent version. infact az screen record doesnt work to well on lollipop. try to save it to your computer and install manually play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hecorat.screenrecorder.free&hl=en_GB
Can you run power at the same time to keep the phone charged... By using a otg splitter.
Robin Reynolds yes you can u just need an adapter that allows power in and usb in. but then you start to get a lot of wires
Cheers great find just ordered one
great :)
I would be interested to know if you can stream the external FPV camera's feed out with Periscope or Meerkat. Can you try?
Brian Dombrowski I think only the easy cap viewer recognizes the devices so i dont think you can with the easy cap. however the laserbgc device is recognised as a webcam so can you connect as a webcam to periscope? its something i can try!
Cool dude how much range will it have and how much for all the bits
gadgetman 404 the range.depends on what fpv transmitter and receiver combination you use so which ever one u buy will determine that. the easycap device costs about 11gbp and the otg lead a couple of gbp. all the best
Cheers I look into it
Great stuff!
What is the video resolution for this set up? your other video only displayed at 640 x 480, is this better quality, or the same? I set up my (fake easycap) and the video quality is rather poor compared to my 7"FPV monitor.
Ashley Bennett the phone's screen is 1080P the easy cap device is standard def
Other than that, it works fine for framing aerial videography shots and stills.
awesome thanks!! is their a way to make it split screen for use with vr goggles like Google cardboard?
+joey dufrene I have done an updated video recently. they have added this function to the app in the last few weeks
Can this be used with my Fatshark goggles as a second display? Run a video out from the goggles to my phone/tablet so another person could watch the video as I fly?
Chad Griggs yes it can :)
So sick. I tried finding a solution for this a year ago and was told it wasn't possible. This is awesome
hope you manage to find some use from it cheers
Someone may have mentioned this but if you're running Android 7.0 ot higher you can switch on "gamemode" and record what's on your cellphone. It's built in under "performance mode" in cellphone settings
Moto e4plus me keise supported hoga? answer in Hindi
Great info!
Did you test it while on flight? What about the latency?
Hi AndyRC
Great video! Thanks
Which battery should i use to power a 1000tv fpv camera with a 600mw transmitter.
Is this app or some other allow to record captured video? I consider to use it as DVR.
+Sławomir Cebula I answer to myself. It is possible. Only use any video screen recorder from market.
what camera/transmitter is that on that drone? it's so tiny, i havent seen one that tiny before.
What is that adapter thing called at 3:24!? I can't find anything like it! But I don't know exactly what to search for. Would it be at a RadioShack?
Kookoocachoo AV to wifi converter
ok i am new at all of this i would like to know after i get the easycap and otg device what else do i need to complete this
What a nice well done video, I was just looking up easycap not even interested in fpv. Watch the whole video. it was cool.
I'm getting and error that says "usb error can't start streaming, please reaattach device" what's going on?
Does the phone charge when you have it connected to the easy cap input?
no, but there are otg cables (the cable between the easy cap and the phone) that have a usb aswell as a charging port on the other end so you're able to charge the phone as well as having an easycap connected to it.
Do you know why EasyCap viewer is nit compatible with my Samsung Galaxy Tab 4? The Android version is 4.4.
+Rhéal Charbonneau if it has USB on the go it should work. i believe the app doesn't list itself under untested devices so might be worth you downloading the apk to a computer instead and trying it that way
+AndyRC I can`t download the app to my PC and transfer to the tablet. They don`t sell the APK file.
I have heard of other users "finding" the apk online and installing it manually but have no experience of this myself sorry
Did they change the name or it's no longer available?
you can try it but I can't advise it will work
Hi I have easycap stk1160. I got the video to work but there's one problem. If I connect easycap directly to my rc832 I won't get video but if I connect my easycap to another monitor that's already receiving video from the rc832 then I have video. I am using Samsung s4 with easycap viewer. Please help. Thanks
+Alvin Bui sounds to me like you either have your wires mixed up or have the pal / ntsc selected wrongly
Hi Alvin you said that Stk1160 worked. What software you used?
Hi Andy ,great stuff as usual.
best uvc is utv007 , great video my friend , i like all yours videos
Does the app have a record function? Apologies if you mentioned it, I was not able to see the whole 17 minutes. Not concerned about actual FPV use since I have googles for that, but would be interested in recording from this device if possible to compare against my DVR.
Great video! is it possible to connect something like a Wii, and plug the RCA (Red, Yellow, and White cables) to my android phone through adapters and stuff? please help. Thanks!
Hey Andy RC, I have a 5.8mhz transmitter that I bought based off of your build a cheap quad. will this work with this setup or does it have to be a 1.3mhz. let me know because I want to use my phone to be my screen.
it will work you just need a 5.8 gig receiver to go with it
can you plug the easy cap into hubsan h501s advanced transmitter and will it fpv ?
Can i use this with any FPV downlink transmitter? And can i use this with Gopro style action cameras?
Andy Black yes you can just add your video receiver cable to the composite video like done in this video and you are good to go
Can this work with long range setups and FPV quadcopter racing? And can i use a Nvidia Shield Android tablet?
as long as nvidia sheild has usb otg then you can do all those things
Could i use no apps and still do this?Because i am not sure how long any of these Apps would be on the Itunes or Google Play. And is this more reliable then getting a 5.8 monitor? And is this a good companion for some one using goggles and wants to give monitors a try?And can this be future prof? Thanks for helping.
Just got my Easycap today, big thanks for these vids. Great channel and vids, thanks for sharing!
thanks for watching. hope u got it working cheers
Can you make a video using a reverse camera and a android? I
want to aply in my bike, but i do not know how to do it..
Thanks
+crzprgrmmr wonderful glad you found it useful enjoy!
Hi Andy, the easy cap viewer app isn't allowing me to access preferences to activate the usb 007, its just returning back to the main page.
Could this be an issue with my phone our the app.
Thanks in advance.
Mike.
+Michael Leo iv not seen that before. have u got auto rotate turned on?
+AndyRC
Yes it's turned on Andy and thanks for the rapid response btw, when i select preferences it displays the option screen for a mili second and then returns to the Easy cap viewer main page.
Sorry for being a pain in the ass.
Mike.
+Michael Leo what phone are u using and version of android?
+AndyRC
it's a Samsung phone, Device and Model GT-S7580 and android version 4.2.2
Best Regards
Plz Reply.
+Joseph Martin Augustin do you mean you want to do a screen record of the camera on your phone in action? would you not just use the record function on the camera phone itself? thx
Thank Andy,
I want the Video & Audio from my Professional video camera onto the phone as a captured file so that I can edit on my mobile and share through Sendspace etc.Any other alternative set up likewise Easy cap and different apps?
is the problem that the video camera outputs to tape? because most video cameras will create a file to an SD card which then you would just transfer over to the phone or computer using a USB cabe? thanks
great movie, I have a question if this camera wakes up when it has 12v? after disconnection returns to dasch?
Right, so the EasyCap device doesn't do anything except convert video into USB / web-cam format?
+Flyleap Studios u will still need a video receiver yes
AndyRC Ok, that makes sense now. In that case I think I'll wait for LaserBSG to stock more of their micro USB devices before buying. In the meantime I could try writing my own webcam app which could be better suited for viewing FPV video
there is a webcam app that does side by side?
Yes, but I'd also like to be able to use the virtual reality features of cardboard to look away from the video, I think having the video on a virtual 3D surface in VR reduces motion sickness since it 'grounds' the user in a place where their brain doesn't expect physical forces of momentum.
what is the name of the webcam app please?
Can I use this to connect my ps2 console to a android tablet?
Hey how can you transfer the video from ur small drone to ur phone. What device are you using for that please i need one like that for my drone
bismark camilo if your small drone is using an SD card and your phone uses USB OTG you can use this cable along with a micro sd card reader to get files off it. i believe though that you need to root your phone to get this working. best to put them on a PC first then transfer to your phone by connecting the phone to PC and use mass storage
I have a note 4 and yes my phone have the root. And my (drone is 007 spy) it has his own camera, and i know the i can't used that to transfer the video. so that's why I say where did you get that small camera in ur drone. So i can put it to my and sure it can handler
i got it from fpvhobby.com but currently sold out
Ok but i mean what camera are you using in ur drone and the transmitter
yes its from fpvhobby.com
Can you provide a link that can get a utv007 easycap module? Thank you
+Yiduo Zhan i bought this years ago but if you look down the comments people have posted links to where they got theirs from. cheers
Hi, do you know if an EasyCap with chip HTC 281.1 will run as the same of your chipset mentioned? Many thanks! Alexandre
+Alexandre Augusto no im afraid only chips STK1160 UTV007 will work with easyviewer
+AndyRC OK, many tks for the fast answer!
no problem :)
USB debugging is on and device supports USB host
when you say theres no static... are you getting a black screen or a coloured screen?
+AndyRC the regular screen with colors
yes then its not connecting at all. id say try a different usb OTG cable they can be very weak
@rayed farhad please check your google + settings it wont let anyone reply to you cheers
+AndyRC settings changed..now reply
+rayed farhad if you sort the comments by newest first and look down, people have provided links to devices that worked for them. cheers
+AndyRC i have found some in ebay..will they work??and can u tell the price of your easy cap?
+rayed farhad as long as they have one of the two chips talked about then they will work. if buying off ebay please message the seller to see what chip they have. I do not sell them myself. thanks
+rayed farhad i boight one from amazon oe it works
what is the Fpv that you are using, i want to buy a light and cheap fpv system
can you give me the link?
+Alejandro Marroquin search my channel for FPV plate build
5.8ghz vtx and 1.3ghz receiver i thought you needed same frequency to work! i am new to fpv so bit confused there!
so can i use this 1.3ghz receiver with hubsan 107d ?
+gamerworldmx no you cant the frequencies need to match.
+AndyRC okay so any 5.8ghz rx can be used with hubsan 107d for fpv right? or only the hubsan fpv tx works with hubsan ?
+gamerworldmx but isn't that 5.8 ghz vtx on that micro quad? and the receiver you using 1.3ghz?
no they are both the same
+AndyRC okay thanks for clearing! ill try building the fpv plate with your video tut! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
My device gets quite hot. is this normal. I am concerned that it will destroy itself. Thinking about a heatsink or something similar.
Hi. Just try it some minutes ago with a UTV007 chipset, it doesn't work on my KitKat smartphone : "USB I/O error, cannot set video input", whatever is the "Change Video Input" :( Any idea ?
usually that's when u haven't changed the signal loss option
+AndyRC "Signal Detection" is already disable...
it could be an issue with the cables you are using. many find that their video cables or OTG cables are defective
+AndyRC I have tested my USB keyboard and it works... Anyway, I have sent an email to the developer. Wait & See.
Thanks
what device are you using?
dude can you help me got i imax b6 charger which is great got 2000mah 2 cell 7.4 volt syma batterys ya you got it funny connectors but if i make connector lead that goes in side can i use this charger to charge them with just balance lead plugged in connection error message come up got old connector off an old fc board if soilder bannana connectorsnon in is it safe to charge using imax b6 as stock charger takes 3hr to charge for 8 min flight thanks
hey AndyRC how far can receive video? wich range have it?
Could you tell if the easycap viewer app can be used with "3d" goggles with a feature to display "side-by-side" mirrored video from a single composite video source? ( BlitzWolf® VR Glasses for example) Thanks
Can you use this to plug in Game Consoles or DVD players?
each time it freezes in the middle of the flight which is quite annoying, do you know how I could fix this
+thevideoarsenal1 which phone are you using?
Thanks for the video! I have a probleme to get it works though... I plugged my receiver to my easycap and then my easycap to my phone through a OTG cable. The problem is that my easycap doesn't seem to receive current from my phone... My phone is a Nexus 5 and the easycap has a UTV007. Is the OTG cable the problem? I see that you too have a nexus 5....
+AndyRC Could you paste the link to your OTG Cable?
I tested my otg cable with a Samsung S6 and it worked fine... so the problem is with my nexus 5. I can't get it to see the otg...any Idea?
what model of the camera you using sir, thx so much.
Hi Andy! great video. it helped me to make use of my easycap rather than lying around unused. mine is a cheap one comes with HTV600 chip. Easycap Viewer able to recognize it either selecting UTV007 or STK1160 in the software
+Azlan Adnan thats good to k ow and thats the first case of another chip working! cheers
my system is wired correctly, I can use it on my computer, but my ZTE Axon 7 doesn't detect any easycap device. any extra programs I need to install?
Hi Andy, do you (or anyone else) know if there is a solution with HDMI Input? The Easycap Stick only supports SD Video, but i am looking for a solution with HDMI source to bring into a phone/tablet. Is there something like that out there? Thanx!
does it support on samsung galaxy j5 2016??
At first I was like. WTH. what is the point of this silly configuration. then it hit me. RECORDING THE FLIGHT. Genius! absolutely Genius!
