    The viewfinders seem to be a great idea for FPV googles. Modern cameras have viewfinders with 1MP or higher resolutions, so maybe the replacement viewfinders are available to be used for googles.

    Now I need someone to 3d print the goggle so we could mount the min monitors on it. . This will kill fatshark period.

    You should make a cover flap to close of the vision of the other eye when you're flying. Really cool project.

    Yeah, this must be an older video as we can get it already in goggles with two viewfinders built in for $100-$250. But this is a great video and I'm sure spawned creativity in many

    Great project sir! Thanks for sharing this :) I actually have the version of those screens with suction-cups in my wish-list..
    But.. I wondered if it wouldn't have been cheaper to use 2 small LCD's, and maybe cut up a set of reading-glasses as lenses?

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +DutchRC Adventures I know the item you mean, it's a nice tidy package. I found that the range from which you need to look into this lens is very small though, I have to wonder how well it would work when placed on the outside of glasses.

    • @DutchRC
      @DutchRC 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +iforce2d Yessss.. I have the same concern.. And well.. it still IS €82.. That and the pretty low resolution.. Hmmm

  • @ravinrad7574

    would this be viable for a closed off helmet display for cosplaying?it's quite small and compact which is why I'm kinda curious

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it would be extremely disorienting. Much easier to just make part of the helmet with dark sunglasses type plastic.

  • @bensge1

    Interesting concept! The idea seems quite uncomfortable to me however, I don't like being limited to one eye at all. The Skyzone googles have a feature to switch to a built-in camera with a button too, not sure if you're aware. I recently learned about the yet to be released HeadPlay googles, I would probably be getting those if I was looking for good value goggles atm

    okay I love diy myself, but why not just buy the v2 of the quant googles I hve both and they a MASSIVE improvement u can wear glasses with them and near no light pen thanks to the neoprene sleave around it plus higher rez screen. just pop your rx in one side wires under it and 3s batt in the other side. they are a massive improvement and cheaper than this monocular

    Great show Mate, I built something like it 2 or 3 years. Did you ever think about swimming goggles? That's what I used. There's room for the eye piece bring it alittle closer to your eye and you don't have to cut the plastic. Drill 1 little hole for the wriring . Just food for thought.

  • @fpvrcstuff
    @fpvrcstuff 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great project , thanks for sharing :-) You need to buy yourself a dermal tool for cutting plastic !Cheers

    I used to fly using an 9 inch monitor and nothing more.
    The only thing was that I was tempted to move my eyes and look at the copter instead of focusing on the screen. And, as anybody probably knows, the moment the eyes move from one point of view to another, the controls directions shift. But my brain lagged a lot in reorienting and usually ended the flight with a rough landing.
    So now I prefer the goggles that completely prevent me peeking out.
    Not working at the national bank had me being wary of my budget and I found many good deals with older, second hand equipment. Paid like $50 for a set of used, mauled case but otherwise working set of v1 fatsharks. Two days of epoxy and carbon patching of the soldering iron holes in the case made by the previous owner and now it's alright.
    Eyepieces with a good fov and resolution are prohibitive even at the cheapest Chinese shop.

    I got 2 vr d2's and I cut one of them in half just so its more of a screen that I can give to someone who might be intrigued. Anyways I was wondering if there is some kind of demagnifying lens I could use so I could make them wearable. Only reason I would get fatsharks right now is that the compact size looks cooler and they are more practical to carry around.

    Did you use that same sky goggle on the quanums? I have the v1 and the v2 with motorcycle goggles and is super comfy and no light problems at all.

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Multirotor Go at first I wondered what the hell you are talking about, but you mean the ski-goggles right? That's a good idea, I think it would give the best of both worlds. Hmm... might try that sometime, thanks!

    • @TheStickyBusiness
      @TheStickyBusiness 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +iforce2d LOL. Yes I meant those. I got them even before getting the quanums for that purpose after seeing a lot of reviews and modds on the quanum goggles. I specifically bought this cheap ones bit.ly/Padded-Motorcycle-Goggles The strap of the sky goggles instead of going around my head goes in front of the sky goggles and then around the front of the quanum so they get fixed to them. On the V1 the straps of the quanum that should go around my head, I use it to secure both half of the V1 together and also keeps the sky goggles strap at the sides, well secured. Oh and also keep a Jockey hat , like the one on your video, attached to the quanums. So the quanums get secured to my face by the Hat. On the v2 I also put the sky goggles strap around the quanum foam and under the neoprene sock. To keep the little light that can get in out, I just use electrical tape between the sky goggles and quanums goggles gaps. Hope it solve your problems. I would never think on using the quanums with out the sky goggles, for sure it must be a very uncomfortable experience, with them is just the perfect FPV goggle experience you can have right now IMHO

    Have you made any progress on this? I just recently found the module on banggood and had this exact idea so I started searching and found your video. I would definitely want to give this a shot if you think it is worthwhile. Does the screen display static when there is no video signal? I plan to 3d print a mount to get the modules in the right position in front of my eyes. Please let me know if you have any other tips or info about these modules.

    Shame they're so expensive given how low tech they are. Pretty niche application I guess?
    Have you looked at something like AndyRC's EasyCAP video and Banggood SKU299686? Latency looks acceptable!

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +alhazan hmm... it seems a bit heavy to have my phone out on the front of the goggles like that, and what happens if somebody calls me in the middle of a flight? Hopefully you can disable calls or something. Generally the latency on systems like that is ok for slow photography flying but not fast enough for going through trees and stuff, I'm always suspicious of A->D video like that.

    • @alhazan
      @alhazan 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +iforce2d I'd always assumed the latency would make it unusable but AndyRC claims it's pretty good. As for weight yeahhh. Maybe you could take the battery out and hack up an external power solution? Might play with it as I've got an EasyCAP (I think it's a knockoff though). As for calls.. airplane mode? :D

    I could be wrong, but from what I'm looking at?
    that view finder your using looks veeeeeeeeery close to a NIGHT VISION view finder. What I'm saying is that it is possible to damage the unit if used in the daylight since it is made for night view only.
    Along that line, there are different stages of NV: moon light, low light and pitch black. These are proper lighting stages for a night view finder. Which is what you seem to have there from banggood.
    If it is what you have, you could damage it by using it in full day light.
