Really enjoyed the video, however I noticed a lot of digital artifacting on the shown moving footage. I didn't think much of it at first, assuming it was probably old and from lesser digital cameras of the time, but then your own recording of the Sonic hotel room was shown and appeared quite distorted. Given that this footage didn't look like that when you originally uploaded it years ago, it's likely something happened during the export of this entire video to cause it to become corrupted or compressed. Might be worth re-exporting and re-uploading this video to have the picture quality you intended. You mentioned on Twitter wanting to do similar documentary type videos in the future - it would be a shame if new viewers saw this and were turned away from your channel due to the visual errors thinking the whole video itself was of lesser production quality, especially since that's not the case and the information itself was quite nicely presented.
I think I know what has caused the distortion issues now. When the video is being converted from youtube into something I can use, it's not being encoded correctly when I try to max the quality of it, and it seems to be doing it mainly with low end cameras or mobile phone video, no all of it, but a lot. Hopefully this should be resolved for future uploads.

Alton towers is one of the few theme parks i went to, i can distinctly remember getting in the line for the sonic spinball ride but i didn't go on the ride because me and my sister realised we didn't have enough time and we had to go back home. I did however go on that charlie and the chocolate factory ride and it's insane to think that i was in a place where sonic the hedgehog had once resided... thanks for making this video, it brought back some unexpected memories.

Hopefully these will be fixed in future uploads! Great vid Dave, keep up the great work!
Yeah the audio is a bit naff at parts due to the following.... Part of it was recorded on a camcorder... Part of it was recorded on a mobile in a conservatory... The rest of it was recorded on a mobile in my room... then I realised 'Oh heck, am I holding the phone in the same way?' Come Xmas all audio will be recorded on a yeti mic so hopefully all audio issues will be resolved by then. Already working on the next big video. Mascots! Mascots... everywhere!
I absolutely adored this ride. I would always want to ride it again and again and again XD. The different cars each based on a certain Sonic character was awesome and the music that played was catchy and memorable. I was so sad when I realised the ride was gone. It will forever hold a place in my heart as one of my favourite rides of all time.
My family used to get the plane from Ireland to England and after being tired from the long drive I would be filled with joy walking through the gates I fucking love Alton towers
Really good video :) makes me feel sad to see how quick sonics involvement in the park really was. Looking back I wish I bought more merch and took more time to really appreciate that part of the park while it was there.
The preview day videos featured here pretty extensively: Part 1: th-cam.com/video/Jak1CEkYyB0/w-d-xo.html Part 2: th-cam.com/video/ZLaoE9G3cN0/w-d-xo.html And all the Sonic voice clips: th-cam.com/video/0vWUjRmoIaQ/w-d-xo.html The mural was not painted. It was a giant print stuck to the wall.
I've been on Alton towers recently, and I went on oblivion, and I went on the ride that spins 4 times and did 1 inside out loop and this ride that went like 50 mph in 1 second.
Great video, I never got to stay in the room unfortunately but I do remember being in the shop when they were getting rid of the sonic display and they let me have the header board which I still have
“The problem with the mural was that it was Sonic 4 themed” Jesus Christ dude.... I’m here as a guy who watches theme park content constantly and this is the point where I realized this was a Sonic thing way more than a theme park thing. How is a 74/100 panned? That’s well above average... it’s a beautiful mural I swear Sonic fans are bonkers.
Sonic 4 is pretty hated in the Sonic community. If you play it as a non-Sonic fan in a vacuum, it can seem okay, but to the Sonic community it’s just a shoddy mess.
KamsBizarreAdventure that’s fine but all the Sonic games are shoddy messes. Sonic 4 is ironically again one of the highest rated Sonic titles of the last two decades.
Gavin Wilson Sonic 4 Episode 2 is worse than the first 3&K are where some would say the series stopped being good. Adventure had a common clipping glitch early on in it’s first level and Adventure 2 is kind of just an awful game all around. It has like four sonic levels and then everything else is worse than the first by a mile. Generations is an hour long and meh at best. And given it came out years after Mario Galaxy it’s lack of content is embarrassing for a 360 title. Heroes is okay but it’s too button mash-y and the enemies are all so wildly uninteresting. ... Colors and Unleashed are good though. The Werehog gets too much hate considering how bad most of the other games are.
im from Mexico and I never knew that Alton Towers was a thing, but holy moly, now I only want a time machine and a ticket to the uk, just to stay 5 minutes in that room and buy the medal!!! AWESOME VIDEO!

The white of the design has started to discolour ever so slightly with age, but it’s still pretty awesome. I seem to remember them not being cheap either, along with the photos I got from the ride in one of the Sonic Spinball gift frames
Sadly never went Alton Towers during the Sonic partnership, but visited in 2017 and last week. Great vid Dave, keep up the great work!
Yeah the audio is a bit naff at parts due to the following....
Part of it was recorded on a camcorder...
Part of it was recorded on a mobile in a conservatory...
The rest of it was recorded on a mobile in my room... then I realised 'Oh heck, am I holding the phone in the same way?'
Come Xmas all audio will be recorded on a yeti mic so hopefully all audio issues will be resolved by then.
Already working on the next big video. Mascots! Mascots... everywhere!
@@BadnikMechanic Oh boy, that's a lot of mascots!
While I do like the Yeti mic, it sure can't beat a Zeti mic.
Me: Where is the Sonic theming at your park?
Alton Towers: Gone, reduced to atoms.
Back then
I went on the ride
I met sonic
He signed my sonic book
Childhood complete
you still have the book????
I want to ride ALL the Sonic rides AND stay in that suite for the rest of my life

The mural was not painted. It was a giant print stuck to the wall.
I've been on Alton towers recently, and I went on oblivion, and I went on the ride that spins 4 times and did 1 inside out loop and this ride that went like 50 mph in 1 second.
I'm A Huge Sonic The Hegrehog Fan. Thanks Mate. X
Great video, I never got to stay in the room unfortunately but I do remember being in the shop when they were getting rid of the sonic display and they let me have the header board which I still have
That animotronic is horrifying. He has 2 mouths and he just looks creepy also he just sits in the dark surrounded by water
I went on the sonic spinball ride, it was one of my favorites when I went to Alton towers.
That sonic remix was absolutely fantastic
Instead of a volume warning, how about leveling the audio? It wasn't even that loud lol!
Great video! Would love to see a video on Sega world in London
“The problem with the mural was that it was Sonic 4 themed”
Jesus Christ dude....
I’m here as a guy who watches theme park content constantly and this is the point where I realized this was a Sonic thing way more than a theme park thing.
How is a 74/100 panned? That’s well above average... it’s a beautiful mural I swear Sonic fans are bonkers.
This video is 27 min long. The line you quoted is at 22 min. I guess I didn't do too badly then...
@@TheRealAmericanMan Sonic 2? 3&K? CD?The adveture games? Heroes? Colors? The daytime stages in Unleased? Episode 2 in sonic 4? Generations? Mania?
Gavin Wilson Sonic 4 Episode 2 is worse than the first
3&K are where some would say the series stopped being good.
SONIC IS COOL AND RIP ALTON TOWERS
When did Alton towers die?
im from Mexico and I never knew that Alton Towers was a thing, but holy moly, now I only want a time machine and a ticket to the uk, just to stay 5 minutes in that room and buy the medal!!! AWESOME VIDEO!
I love Sonic 4. Nice game in my opinion, I Hope Sega decides to finish tha saga with Sonic 4 EP 3. Because I still consider it canon
Very good video, loved it!
He is still outside magic HQ we saw him there today and caught a video of him there 💕
Before Nintendoland...
If only that was a thing
@CCuppy no I meant a Nintendo theme park

i remember this ride, went on it when i was around 9-10 i believe, quite fun from what i remember of it, the sonic mascot was a nice touch too
I remember being 10 when that sonic commerical came out. That was a big surprise. Sadly i've only went to Drayton Manor and not Alton Towers.
The noodles were AMAZING! I wish they could bring those back...
So instead of refurbishing the Toyland Tours ride, they decided "Hey, you know that crazy tunnel scene from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory that gives kids nightmares? Let's do that, except more boring"
That ride was based on the 2005 movie, which had a less scarier tunnel scene.
@@unwelldanny7108 I've seen the 2005 movie. This looks nothing like it. If anything, this seems closer to the original book than either of the film adaptations (which is basically just code for "we were extremely cheap")
Oh wow, I had no idea about the exclusive Sonic Spinball medals. I remember grabbing mine around October time, I still have it hanging up over my mirror. The white of the design has started to discolour ever so slightly with age, but it’s still pretty awesome. I seem to remember them not being cheap either, along with the photos I got from the ride in one of the Sonic Spinball gift frames
I remember whaching my family going there at halloween
Oh boy if only you know how much I HATE animatroniks and then I see my favourite blue hedgehog being a total creep around the ride... EW ! >M
Sadly never went Alton Towers during the Sonic partnership, but visited in 2017 and last week. If you go on the spinball whizzer at the right time, you can hear the ring collection chime occasionally while waiting, not sure if any voice lines are mistakingly played but both times I’ve been heard the ring sound a couple times. Hope Alton And Sega collobarate again one day!
Staying at a Sonic theme hotel room seems so cool. Even if the games they had there were super outdated, I would still enjoy it.
I went to Butlins in 2013, I could have sworn I saw something related there. :)
I actually have some sort of leaflet for sonic spinball's announcement when I bought the first Sega all stars racing game for the Nintendo DS. It really brought back some memories for me.
"hEy HeY WeLcOmE To My RoOm" is... Is Sonic trying to seduce me MTV Cribs style?
Lol
Looking at that animatronic statue of sonic front facing kinda looks terrifying
Slopes game room bought me here and I'm glad he did.
He did!?
Was a good documentary, extensive look at the history and heck, I didn't know a lot of this. Good job man, would like to see more if you have ideas.
Well, we can wait for Sonic Ride at the Universal studios.
