I like your vid, but there is one fact you got wrong about the smiler crash: It was not human error. "The theme park originally blamed human error for the accident on 2 June 2015. But during sentencing at Stafford Crown Court today Judge Michael Chambers QC said this was not the case, the Press Association has reported. The judge added that the accident could have been avoided if the company had a risk assessment and a suitable written system for dealing with ride faults. He said: "The defendant now accepts the prosecution case that the underlying fault was an absence of a structured and considered system, not that of individuals' efforts, doing their best within a flawed system."
it is commonly classified as "human error" to point out this is not a malfunction (e,g. mechanical fail) of the coaster itself. Then has been clarified that it was not the problem of a sigle individual, rather the total fail of Merlin's operations protocols (which is not reassuring btw - I would have preferred a drunk operator!)
This is how it happened. The staff were instructed to add a fifth train due to the number of guests in the park. They sent the fifth train out empty. Due to high wind conditions, it stalled at the bottom of the batwing. The ride then issued a warning light. The staff called maintenance, who checked the ride over and found nothing wrong. The staff cleared it, and opened the ride to guests. A loaded train of 16 guests was sent out, and collided with the stalled train at around 20mph.
I absolutely love this video and I'm only 14 minutes in, but I should point out that the footage used around this time for the black hole 2/new is from the final ride which meant that fans of the ride could actually see the track, usually you rode around in darkness, so you couldn't brace for any drops, or know how fast you were going etc, that's why the black hole was an amazing ride.
Ps, I've just shared this video with my family and friends because it's such a good watch! I'm subbed and can't wait to binge watch all your videos! Your voice is fabulous and your content makes for easy viewing! Keep up the good work!
@@oilblivion I only remember one visit on that ride. See, years before my visit as a child id spoken with a friend who told me how you're more safer on a roller coaster than you are in a car, which is true yes, but on my visit to Alton towers I was with my aunty Val, who LOVES her theme park rides (I think nemesis is still her number 1 of all time). I remember being in the loading area which was this small tunnel and I was feeling quite anxious, but my aunty Val said "you're going to love this, it's such a good ride!" And somehow that calmed me down a bit, knowing she had been on it and survived. The black hole was amazing as a ride I must admit, the darkness really added to it, since it is a really basic ride! At Camelot (again when I was a child) they had a ride called Knightmare, then it was The Beast and later The Venom (all with re-themes and the venom actually had live animals in the queue area until animal abuse allegations came around and they were quickly removed... The animals that is, not the allegations). That was an indoor powered roller coaster which honestly as a child it was scary as hell, and it was fast and it was just... Amazing. When the Venom closed due to a change in the law around indoor coasters (not sure what law changed tbh) the ride stood but not operating for some time, but it is currently called mwafra... Mwahfr... Hang on, let me Google the name, it's in Wales where they speak Welsh... Right, so, it's called Morgawr at the Camel Creek adventure park. They changed the train on the track and it still does 2 laps (like the beast and venom did), but when you see the track in daylight, it's honestly amazing how small it is! There's footage on TH-cam of Morgawr (thank god for copy and paste) AND the beast if you wanted to compare, but I think the beast footage is hidden in a long video about a visit in the 90s. Anyway, yeah, that very long story short is, indoor coasters are amazing and add another dimension to a ride experience. I really hope that the towers will do another black hole coaster and call it something like "Blackhole's Revenge" or something like that. Anyway, I've rambled on long enough now, infact I believe it was Christmas eve when you started reading this and now, well, surprise! It's 2023 and you're 2 months late for work, sorry! Lol
