A Sonic themed roller-coaster should have a launch and loops. We've been denied this for too long.

Well, Sonic the Hedgehog was inspired by a Rollercoaster when Sega created the game.
Spinball Whizzer is so underrated it’s one of my favourite rides, it always feels like you’re falling out during those turns!
That’s actually the reason why my dad is so scared of the ride, he always felt like he is gonna fall off lol

I would agree with you there it's very underrated
As one of the operators on the current team we can all agree with you that the final announcement at the end of the ride is just as annoying for us as it is for you. But we still love our favourite under appreciated coaster ❤

I’m amazed Sega doesn’t have more Sonic attractions around the world. He’s such a cool character,and a perfect IP for amusement parks.

This ride gets overlooked so much by enthusiasts, because its surrounded by amazing rides. The truth is, this ride is great, but is perhaps the most overlooked and underrated ride in the whole of the UK.
To be fair, it’s like 50% of the rollercoasters at Cedar Point

@@NotAJollyPotato yes! And while you wait for the inducers to charge, or even just delay the launch, the sound effect of Sonic charging up his spin needs to play. There's so much you could do with a Sonic theme!
Pretty much. I'm surprised nobody has done a Sonic themed coaster based of Twinkle Park from Sonic Adventure. There's so much potential in that.
It would be cool if a theme park chain like Six Flags or Cedar Fair to get the Sonic license here in America. But, since Cedar Fair has only one franchise license to the Peanuts franchise and Six Flags has two licensed franchises under one company DC Comics and Looney Toons. Could possibly see Cedar Fair get the Sonic license if this sort of thing were to happen.

This video was made in time with both the release of Sonic The Hedgehog Movie 2 and the announcement of Sonic Origins. Hopefully this will be followed up with Toyland Tours which also had Sonic The Hedgehog in that ride in 1994.
I was 12 when I went on Toyland Tours in October 1994 and vividly remember entering that Sonic The Hedgehog room full of TV monitors and the big Sonic statue with the moving head. I could have stayed in that room for hours. A wonderful memory!

Absolutely love the Alton Towers expeditions. I only have hazy memories of going there when I was like....5 in 1996? Amazing to see what it's turned into. As soon as I make it back to the UK I'm definitely hitting this park up.

I’d say it feels so scary simply because you feel like the small rickity track is going to fly off beneath you I always had to hold onto my restraints when I used to ride. I don’t go out of my way to ride it these days
Imagine being a human pinball trapped in a game developed by Sega's B team in 6 months. Now that's scary.
I miss the Sonic theming. It was my favorite ride when I first went to Alton Towers. Seeing games get representation in theme parks is important to me as a developer.
I appreciate all the Sonic puns and the Sonic Unleashed music lol. I always wondered what happened to the Sonic theming.
Alton Towers’ decision to use that one song, over and over, as their theme might be one of the more brilliant bits of marketing out there. They, and you in this video, find a way to make it scary, sad, sweet, and funny whenever they need to.
Those references at the end had me ROLLING! And, a toy land tours one? Can’t wait ;)

Previously unfamiliar with Alton Towers, the theme music always reminded me of the old Sonic cartoon first and then I remember they both use “In the Hall of Mountain King”

I'm always surprised by the creativity of roller coaster makers. I've never gone on anything like this but one day...maybe.
And to think Roger Craig Smith's first voice job as Sonic was for Alton Towers. He did voiceovers for the Sonic themed bedrooms before Sonic Free Riders and Sonic Colors came out I think.

Spinning coasters have "endless" theming possibilities. The 1st generation however, was like Stewie Griffin trapped on "It's a tiny TINY World!"
I love Spinball Whizzer. It’s location is a bit unusual compared to the rest of the park however it doesn’t detract from the ride itself. The kids love it as well so for us it’s always good to go on this as it was one of the first types of “thrill” coasters they rode (although that was Dragons Fury at Chessington)

As a Sonic Fan growing up, learning that a Sonic themed roller coaster existed was so cool to me! I just wished that it wasn't across the atlantic from me

I'm so old I've seen it through all the 3 re-brands and I live over 400 miles away up north from Alton Towers. It's one of my fave underrated coasters in the park and I really hope they don't remove it, but instead replace rusty parts.

I don’t QUITE get your whole “the greatest horror” joke here, Sam (You got something against Pinball machines?)…but this looks like it’s a pretty cool ride and reminds me a lot of one of Knotts Berry Farm’s more underrated coasters, Sierra Sidewinder
I always liked how it opened with almost no fan fair as just a random new ride, the queue line pinball machines and retro music made it possibly the most interesting queue line

Great Episode as always, you should do a episode on Knobles in PA its a awesome park and they have done alot to preserve and bring back old rides some like flying turns had not been built or ridden in decades!

But seriously though this is probably one of my three favourite coasters of the park along with wicker man and nemesis, what it lacks in farming it makes up for by just being a lots of fun🙂
With how big Sonic is again thanks to the movies I hope Sonic Spinball comes back, I always wanted to visit the hotel room.
I remember back in scarefest 2017 when I was 7 years old, I went on spinball for the first time and it was one of the scariest experiences in my whole life! What made it even scarier was the fact that when I went on it, it was at night time in the dark! It was proper scary at the time and I screamed the whole way round shouting “MAKE IT STOP!” Imagine being 7 years old and going on spinball for the first time… IN THE DARK! But now, I’m not scared of spinball at all anymore. It’s really impressive how I went from being scared to death of rollercoasters to absolutely loving them. I used to hate the thought of going upside down on a rollercoaster but ever since I went in icon when I was 9, that all changed. I have since progressed to bigger stuff like the smiler. I would happily go on the worlds scariest rollercoaster with almost no fear nowadays.

I don't remember the exit announcement, I've only done this ride twice out of all my visits. But I can only equate it to being as annoying as BGW Verbolton's, where you all you hear through the queue is "Auf Wiedersehen!" being called out by a loud, German woman.
Made me laugh with the edits of the characters towards the end lol great video.

I don't mind it, I liked it with the Sonic theme the best. It was my daughters first coaster at Alton when she wasn't quite up to loop at that point.

I went on that in 2009 summer time where I saw some of the old theme and the soundtrack before it was going to be re themed and turned into something new. Great experience.

The spinball holds a special place in heart, as it was my first true rollercoaster experience. I scoff at the idea of it being the scariest ride of the park though, that's just ridiculous. I've also been on the Dragon's Fury at Chessington, it's also quite fun, and very different experience compared to the Spinball.
God damn it, I recognize the area that that coaster was in when you talked about the standard layout/smaller versions for travelling parks. That's... not all that far from me.....

I've been on spinball whizzer twice. It was truly one of the best roller coasters there. I don't know why so many people overlook this gem.
the others spinners around the world and even in chessington are just better, spinball is basically just 2 horseshoes and a ton of helixs, its also surrounded by better rides

I have loved sonic since childhood the games the merchandise pretty much everything about sonic stood out to me even to this day I invest in sonic content and this ride was no different I was thankful to go when the ride was still sonic spinball back in 2012 it was great it was the same spinball whizzer but seeing one of my favourite fictional characters have a themed ride made all that more special great video brought back alot of nostalgia. 👍
There are soo many things you could do with a sonic themed roller,coaster. An indoor launches coaster like rocking roller coaster with tons of loops and theming. A green hills themed coaster full of gentle hills. A terrain coaster themed after city escape or emerald coast. The possibilities are endless.

I rode it with my family with the Sonic sponsorship in 2014. We all had a photo with the statue. My dad was probably too tall for the ride as he moaned about achey legs all day 😂

I think Congo river rapids would make for a good expedition video, the changes that have recently taken place I.e waterfalls removes, water guns to soak riders not opperating and the new gates to prevent anymore accidents, I would like to know more history

I enjoy Spinball a lot, I like the bits when it goes around the Immelmann and spiral that car stays in same orientation around the curve and it make me feel like im being thrown in the air by someone.
