I feel like you stepped down on Sonic X too far. Sonic X is by far the best Sonic animation out there when all key animators are on a episode. It's a weekly anime series, so obviously not every episode is going to be 100%. I don't understand why so much people just kicked Sonic X out the bucket and only expose the bad side of things. Nowadays it's all about Mania adventures, TSR Overdrive and how their animation is so great. Don't get me wrong it is great, but Sonic X deserves more recognition. Sonic X takes heavy inspiration from Yuji Uekawa's art and gives it a few tweaks here and there. Tyson Heese does a amazing job at implementing classic sonic, but his work on modern sonic is a bit off to me(rectangled-looking eyes, etc). Yuji Uekawa's art is the definitive way to draw Sonic characters and I don't see how anyone can deny with that. Anyways here is a example of a Sonic X animation: th-cam.com/video/Wy_XroBwyyE/w-d-xo.html Enjoyed the video a lot.
So, as I speak russian, I feel that i need to explain the quiz show animations and phrases. Sonic's strange movements, like shaking his head from side to side were a big part of russian cartoons at the time, russian animatiors used them to show concern. Now for the phrases. I belive that at 13:05 Sonic says: Got it. As to indicate the right answer. And at 14:12 Sonic says: Do it, do it, do it! to the player. A fun fact that I wanted to mention was that for a while Sonic in Russia was known as Sonic the super hedgehog (Like the name of the show). I guess it's kinda similar to the Japane's Segasonic. I always found it weird that all the grounups that I knew called him Sonic the super hedgehog, and I actualy found it very anoying. But now that i know... Nah, it's still anoying to this day when i hear people calling Sonic "Sonic Boom" or "Sonic the super hedgehog".

Wow! Im from Russia and im very surprised to see a Sonic Quiz show here because even russian retro game community is not very aware of that old show! (it existed only in early 90s and didnt survive to the late 90s). Also it's not "quiz" show only - they also had some game competition like in the Wizard movie where kids and their parents had to play some levels....time challenge or something like that. As for sonic "screaming" at 11:59 - he screams "УРРААА!!" (urraaa! basically "HOORRAY!") - you probably heard it watching movies about WW2 where soviet soldiers scream that when attacking, haha! As i remember the whole gaming show had an opening where a kid was sick in bed and then ambulance was on the way, then doctor was giving that kid a Sega Mega Drive and he becomes fine! A lot of Sonic fans don't play the games very much, actually. Also none of the cartoons(besides Prime technically) are canon, so not watching those is fine too.

I recall there's a photo of the behind the scenes set for the JP Sonic 2 commercial. It's actually filmed on physical sets and animation was done over it. Don't know where it is now.
Fun Fact about the Sega Dreamcast commercials. Did you know that the CG animation on most of the Sega Dreamcast comercials was done by PDI, Pacific Data Images? PDI is the same studio that made Antz and Shriek for DreamWorks before being acquired by them in the early 2000s. Clips from the Sega commercials they did can be found in some of their demo reels from around this time. Unfortunately, for PDI their advertising division was shut down around 2001 or 2002 to focus on creating movies. The studio itself was shut down in 2015 due to DreamWorks having financial difficulties. At the time PDI was the world's oldest still operational CG studio being found in 1980. The early Death Egg concept could be due to the fact the ad is paroding several cinema moments, including the Roadrunner Shorts, Harold Lloyd's Safety Last!, and I think Disney's 2000 Leagues Under the Sea, but I'm not sure. So having Star Wars being another iconic movie moment, it makes sense is there.
For that Cheerios advert, I think Sonic was Choppy at the start because the bee guy went into Sonic 2 while When sonic came out he wasn’t choppy because he was outside of Sonic 2
21:14 Oh hey, I'm from Brazil. There's the a live action commercial were they call sonic a cat... And this is my friend Tails! We're on the game Sonic 2! Come here to help us out in Sonic 2!: The second one says: "I want to see if you're fast!"
Any new animation created for commercial purposes for a retro game just fascinates me. Besides Sonic, the 2D adverts of Mario, Wario, and Kirby are also quite impressive, and I love the "It's Thinking" series of Dreamcast spots. Very well done video on a topic that is rarely addressed.
Nikola Opric: I don't think i have seen an sonic animation before we got full access to the internet, i would have forgotten sonic if it weren't for the internet, i would like to thank you for letting me realize that there are way more out there in the world of sonic than i actually realized!
I'll put out my opinion on some of these animations. - Sonic Mania Adventures and Team Sonic Racing Overdrive are undoubtedly the best animations that have ever been made for Sonic in 2D. The Sonic CD animated cutscenes are not too far off, but it's just the expressions of the characters, and how they're portrayed that just fill me with so much joy. - The Sonic Unleashed CGI opening cutscene is one of the greatest intros to a video game that's ever been made, and is higly underrated in that respect. The other CGI cutscenes and shorts are also extremely well done, and Sonic's design, expressions and movements are executed in such an amazing way that perfectly captures what makes Modern Sonic so good and so appealing in 3D. In the same mannner that Sonic CD did for Classic Sonic in 2D. - The Sonic Riders 2D opening animation was extremely cool, stylish and sick as hell. Once again, they captured what made Sonic so good in such a way that was never quite done up to that point for Modern Sonic, at least not in that way. - I have a soft spot for Sonic X. I understand that it's by no means the most well-written show in the world, but it was so cool and nice seeing all of Sonic's friends and enemies portrayed in their Modern incarnations, as well as characters that made their debut in the Modern era. There were plently of memorable moments in that show for me, and it will always have a special place in my heart. Also, Cosmo and Bokkun should seriously be canon characters within the mainline Sonic continuity. But mostly Cosmo. 😅 - I really like a lot of the Japanese commercials for Sonic in the 90s, especially the ones with Sonic and Tails wearing the hats and bowties, the CG Sonic Spinball and Sonic CD commercial, the Sonic & Tails commercial with Sonic and Tails running from Eggman, and so on. They're all really cute and have a lot of charm. - A lot of these commercials usually deviate from Sonic and Tails' core design in some way, shape or form. And most of them still capture what makes them look so nice and appealing to look at in their own way. And most the animations, whether limited or heavy on movement, are expressive and capture what makes Sonic and Tails so good as characters, as well as selling the action and attitude you see in the games very nicely and effectively. - Sonic also looked incredible in his cameos in both Wreck-It-Ralph movies. Capturing both his design, and his personality in such a great way, while also just having fun with him by making him funny and informative. As well as having a potential philosophical side to him in the second one and being into books. That stuff is golden. 😂

Thanks for producing this! I really enjoyed learning the history of Sonic animation!
21:36 sonic’s voice in this addvert sounds like Mickey Mouse’s voice
I lost my shit at the Hidden Valley Ranch commercial
Can you feel the sunshine...?
Does it brighten up your day? ... Or something...
@@CragusMaximus You just proved, that you are no insider...
9:58 I don’t really care if he has blue arms he still looks like sonic
The early Death Egg concept could be due to the fact the ad is paroding several cinema moments, including the Roadrunner Shorts, Harold Lloyd's Safety Last!, and I think Disney's 2000 Leagues Under the Sea, but I'm not sure. So having Star Wars being another iconic movie moment, it makes sense is there.
Everyone mentions that Sonic was in Wreck It Ralph and forgets that he was also in Ready Player One and in the Simpsons twice.
Sonic was in Ready Player One?
Top work mate. The hours put into this!
Thank you. Took a very long time this one. Especially since I had a cold for a few days during the work period.
14:50 Sonic sounds like he's a drug dealer and then tells the kid you want more lol the kid even looks wired and says Yeah! Yeah!! 🤣
A lot of research much have gone into this video. 👍
This guy forgot to mention sonic's cameo appearance in wreck it ralph.
For that Cheerios advert, I think Sonic was Choppy at the start because the bee guy went into Sonic 2 while When sonic came out he wasn’t choppy because he was outside of Sonic 2
that brazilian sonic 2 animation isn't so bad when you watch some brazilian cartoons/dubs.
"it came from green hell zone"
Great video! Just out of curiosity, have you seen the Sonic Riders intro? If so, what do you think of it?
21:14 Oh hey, I'm from Brazil.
There's the a live action commercial were they call sonic a cat...
Also, Sonic's voice in the firts brazilian commercial you showed was his voice in the cartoons...(except on Sonic Boom, and maybe Sonic X, I'm not sure)
The first commercial says: "Hi! I'm Sonic! And this is my friend Tails! We're on the game Sonic 2! Come here to help us out in Sonic 2!:
The second one says: "I want to see if you're fast!"
Were they joking about Sonic being a cat or were they serious?
@@butcherax They were serious, I think

Any new animation created for commercial purposes for a retro game just fascinates me. Besides Sonic, the 2D adverts of Mario, Wario, and Kirby are also quite impressive, and I love the "It's Thinking" series of Dreamcast spots. Very well done video on a topic that is rarely addressed.
Nikola Opric: I don't think i have seen an sonic animation before we got full access to the internet, i would have forgotten sonic if it weren't for the internet, i would like to thank you for letting me realize that there are way more out there in the world of sonic than i actually realized!
Welcome to the 90s
- I really like a lot of the Japanese commercials for Sonic in the 90s, especially the ones with Sonic and Tails wearing the hats and bowties, the CG Sonic Spinball and Sonic CD commercial, the Sonic & Tails commercial with Sonic and Tails running from Eggman, and so on.
Jemapple Sonic and I’m not French, I’m just Japanese. Konichi wa, I’m a Japanese hdgehog, nothing more. Even though I’m more popular in other Countries.
The one at 32:23 made me laugh so hard I had to pause the video because I was crying and couldn't concentrate on anything that was being said
Edit: Also, I forgot to say that this is a good video btw
What is the song you use for the "It Came From Green Hell Zone" moments?
honestly my fav sonic animation is sonic saying "tHaTs nO gOoD"
Red sonic! 7:40 before clicking on it pause the video
26:37 sonic sounds like Thomas the tank engine can you tell
Sonics gonna be in a new episode of Ok Ko.
1:26 there’ll be one or 2 exceptions for game animation.
Me: “Sonic Riders opening has got to be one of them”
But then it doesn’t show up and I’m like “aww”
21:37 sonic sounds like Mickey Mouse
Great video! I’m a new subscriber and have watched a few of your videos on lost or unheard of Sonic media. Especially loved your video on the Sonic mascot costumes and the Sonic statue. Keep up the amazing work!
This video was so entertaining!
